We all agreed on separate sleeping arrangements so we could consider the

I'm going to want a copy of everything recorded yesterday and this morning.

Larry was a heavy drinker, especially when he had trouble sleeping.

Well, the autopsy came out just as we expected. He died of an overdose, pills,

and alcohol.

Any way to tell if it was an accident or suicide?

Well, the blood count was .28, which means he took six or seven pills.

Isn't that a lot?

Well, it would argue for suicide, except for two things.

You know, when your tolerance increases, you have to have a higher dosage. And

when you're inebriated and doped up, you don't know how many pills you've taken.

So I can close the file? Yeah, it's sad any way you look at it.

It lets us know how far into the tape we are.

And it also gives us frame numbers. Very important for editing.

No. At midnight, we set new tapes for each of the rooms.

They're six hours long. At 6 a .m., we switch the tapes later. We review the

tapes to see if anything worthwhile went on.

Say Nora came to visit.

Then we check Jillian's room at 2 .03, see if Jamal came to visit. That would

interesting. You take the bedroom activity?

This isn't Europe. We tape it, but we don't air it.

Well, I'm somewhat of a mystery buff, and I have to admit that Larry's death

puzzled me a lot.

Life isn't always as clear as a book. As a doctor, you should know that. I agree

Sometimes a mystery is just a mystery.

There's a thing in medicine called a blind test, where you don't tell anybody

what you're going for, and that way the hypothesis doesn't affect the outcome.

And are we all subjects in this test?

I do need your help.

But if you participate, I'll explain everything once I get the results.

Well, I'd like everyone to sleep alone tonight. And exactly the way they did

tonight, Larry died.

Oh, one other thing. In order for the experiment to work, I have to sleep in

Nora's room, and she has to spend the night in my room.

That's what we're trying to discover.

I'm not going to commit a murder.

I discovered you can climb up on the roof undetected by the cameras, just

she did.

That's absurd.

Then how did you get those freckles?

This monofilament is so thin it can't be detected on videotape. So thin I had to

tie a little fish weight on the bottom.

Tonight, I climbed up on the roof, opened the skylight, and I dropped the

down, and I painted freckles on Nora's face.

Unfortunately, Larry was not a victim of a prank.

Nora dropped a solution made from his sleeping pills down this line.

Now, she knew he slept with his mouth open, snoring.

She also knew he was prone to drink, especially if he was upset.

We all knew that.

Yeah, the man hit the bottle as soon as he slammed his door.

Yeah, but we could have voted Larry out. Why wouldn't she just go along with us

and get rid of him that way?

If Larry left, the diamond's left with him, right, Doctor?

Precisely, Alex.

Oh, you don't believe him.

He's making a good case.

And you do have those freckles.

But I couldn't have killed him. I was in bed the entire time. I was sleeping.

Just look at the tape.

That's what I'd like to do right now, if everyone will assemble in the living

room.

Okay, that's good right there.

I've asked the police and Mr. Warburg to join us.

Now, the two tapes you're going to see were retrieved from the machines at 6 a

.m., the morning of Larry's death.

One of them is in Larry's room, and the other one is in Nora's.

And, oh, you'll see a black strip at the top. Mr. Warburg tells me that's the

time code.

Each one is set at 2 .03.

All right, would you roll it, please?

You hear that?

Police siren.

Any obvious?

Would you switch the sound to Laura's room?

Now, we checked every tape.

And you can hear it on every one of them. No matter what room you're in, you

hear that police siren.

Except in Nora's room.

So, I've got a quiet room.

What does that prove?

It's a fundamental inconsistency.

It proves that the tape from your room wasn't recorded that night.

Very good, Alex.

You didn't just climb back in your window that night.

You timed the outside cameras so you could make your way to the production

truck.

You took the incriminating tape out of the machine and then you found the tape

from your bedroom recorded the previous night.

You stripped the label from that tape and you replaced it with the label from

the night of the murder.

Then you put the innocent tape back into the machine and ran it on fast forward

all the way to the end.

And finally, you put the real tape, the incriminating tape, in the recycle bin.

The next morning when the technician arrived, he found a tape in the machine

you sleeping.

This tape.

If it hadn't have been for that police siren, we could have never proven what

you did.

I'm placing you under arrest.

Oh, and she can get herself any attorney she can afford.

Normally, as you know, we block your access to the show.

But since this is a special presentation... An experience, Mr.

Definitely an experience.

I think something's wrong here. Don't ask me how, but please do not shut off

investigation.
