Our guest while high on drugs found

himself walking

across steel bars of a

construction zone over a six-lane

freeway. When he

heard a loud voice say,

"You could be doing this for me, what

would you have

done?" I'm excited to have

Chuck Perry here with me who will

share about his search

for God and how you two

can take a leap of faith. Chuck,

welcome to the show. Thank you.

Thanks Barb. So what

happened above that freeway?

And what were you thinking to be

there high on drugs

crossing that anyways?

No thoughts were in his mind. About

10 of my friends and I had gone to a

rock and roll concert. This was in

1972 and we were high on LSD,

psychedelic drugs, and we're walking

across the city of Philadelphia and

we came to this

six-lane road and didn't

know how to get across and I spotted

a bridge that was

being built. It was going

to be a walking bridge but it was

only steel I-beam

bridge trusses that spanned

this freeway. How wide were they?

About eight inches

wide on the top and

separated by about six feet. So I

said, "Hey, here's the bridge."

And I got up and I walked to the

middle of it and

turned back and told my

friends and they were very hesitant.

Oh yeah, was there

traffic? Yeah, it was rush hour.

And so I went back and I started

leading them one by one by the hand

across this bridge and then coming

back for the next one

and then coming back

for the next one and you know if I

looked down I'd see drivers whizzing

under the bridge going, "Ahh!" So I

got about half of them across and I

came back and as I came back the

sunset it was rush hour and

you know all the noise and

bustle of a big city and all of a

sudden the noise all

stopped. It was just

completely quiet and I stood there

looking at the sunset and I heard a

voice and it said, "You could be

doing this for me." So

you were like in a different

round? Oh yeah, it was like heaven

just opened but I

didn't know what it was.

And when that voice said that I

looked down and I was

on a straight and narrow

bridge over death and destruction

leading people to the other side and

for one split second it all made

sense and then I

went, "What?" and took

everybody across and we went and

partied. Oh no. But the

thing that happened was a

deposit was made inside of me that

there was someone who

had a purpose for my

life. Wow. And I had to find out who

that was. And see I was at

university at the time I was studying

architecture and I studied physics as

well and in physics I saw that there

was design in all of

creation. There was

absolute design. So you had never

heard about Christ or

God or the Bible or done

nothing with it? I mean kind of but

it never made sense. I never got it.

I didn't grow up in a family that was

reading the Bible

and following Jesus.

I just didn't know. And so you know

what I saw was design and I was

studying architecture I saw design

and I was into design

and everything and you

know so I saw okay with this much

design there has to be

a designer. Wow. And you

know I just it was obvious and also

through taking

psychedelic drugs I saw

that there's an invisible realm that

impacts the

physical realm. Now nobody

had ever told me about the spirit a

spiritual realm any of that. I was

clueless. I grew up in a

materialistic society and so if

there's an invisible

realm that impacts the physical realm

and there's a designer of all of this

and somebody has a plan for my life I

decided I've got to

meet the designer of

the universe. So how did you go about

that? You were not

gonna find that at the

university. No I did graduate from

the university just after that bridge

experience in the spring of 1972 and

I developed this plan

I got a cabin in the

mountains of Colorado and I said I'm

not leaving this

cabin till I meet the

designer of the universe. That's a

crazy plan if you

really think about it.

Isn't like you're gonna go in nowhere

basically but God

will meet you there.

Yeah well I had skied in the

mountains and I climbed

peaks in the mountains of

Colorado and there's such clarity in

the high places that

it just seemed like

that's where I would encounter the

designer of the

universe and so in the

autumn I think October something like

that I moved to

Colorado got a cabin and

settled in to meet the designer of

the universe and then

snowstorms came and my

car broke down and I ran out of food

and all I had was a

huge bag of oatmeal but

I was stuck in this cabin in the

mountains just

reaching out where is the

designer of the universe. You

wouldn't leave. Well you couldn't

leave at this point.

I was stuck. And so nobody showed up

for really a long time but I just

kept calling out and it was really

funny because I only had one

spiritual book and it was

the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu

it's Confucianism and it's kind of

like Buddhism and it

told you all about the

excellent man and the virtuous man

and how he thought and

who he was and I read

that and I thought oh that looks

alluring that looks

powerful but I'm not

the virtuous man or the excellent man

and I don't even know how to be one.

And so God even used Lao Tzu to show

me that I needed a

Savior. That's amazing.

And so I would like I wanted to give

up but where could I

go and what could I do?

Nobody would show you. So around New

Year's at the end of 1972 this big

blizzard ended and

there were a billion stars out. I

went out at night. I was standing on

the mountain all these

stars and I just said how can I know

the designer of all this? I'm like a

speck in all this creation.

You know is this presumptuous? Can I

even know you? Wow and I

want to take it right there.

So Chuck you're here in the

mountains. You're in this hut. You

snowed in. Your car breaks down.

Then you see a beautiful star sky.

Now what? You're

there with the wrong book.

Everything becomes right when he gets

involved. So yeah so that night I

went to bed just thinking

how can God even know me? I'm a speck

in the universe. I woke up in the

morning and the sun

rose over new fallen snow. It was

brilliant light outside blinding

light and I looked out the window

and I just said how can I know you?

And all of a sudden the cabin filled

with light and it was

brighter than the sun outside and I

knew it was Jesus. How did he know? I

just knew this is Jesus.

I wasn't looking for Jesus. I've been

reading eastern mysticism, looking at

gurus, all kinds of stuff

and but I knew this is Jesus. His

presence I mean he just

radiated. He let me know

he was Jesus and so I knelt down and

I surrendered my life to him and I

said the only words that I

knew how to say. I said be my guru

and he wasn't even offended. I think

that's awesome though

because I think Jesus loves the raw

and the real. But you invited him in.

Yeah and then I heard him.

This voice resonated inside of me and

it said I'm the way, the truth and

the life. No one comes to

the father except through me. Now I'd

never read the Bible. I didn't know

that was in the Bible.

I just heard the phrase and so I

yielded and I said then show me the

father and I started this.

You didn't even know that because

that's part of John

14. 6. 2. He said no.

I'm the way, the truth and the life.

No one comes to the father except

through me. So I wanted to

go to the father whoever that was.

And so he took me on a journey for

the next five years actually

into the heart of God and miracles

started happening but I

didn't meet any Christians

for five years. None? Were you

looking for them or not?

I didn't. I'd been to some

sort of Christian churches when I was

a kid and nothing happened there. So

it never occurred to

me why would I go there. You know

this is dynamic and exciting and

life-giving and so it didn't

occur to me to go to a church but I

was looking for more people who had

encounters and experiences

with the living God. Wow. And as the

years progressed it

increased and increased. I met

my wife. We got married and then

finally five years later we met this

group who had a Holy Ghost

prayer meeting in a village of 400

people in the mountains of Colorado

and they were filled with

the Holy Ghost. They prophesied. They

prayed. They saw miracles happen.

They saw healing happen

and they invited us into their little

group like 20 people and we

experienced the presence of God

like we never had before and they

began to disciple us in the Word and

in the Spirit, told us what

salvation was, we were baptized in

the Holy Spirit and they took us on

the journey into the Word of

God. Wow. You must have grabbed it

with everything you could. Yeah. We

were so hungry. Good. So hungry.

Now God is serious. Well, he was

serious all this time. So once you

got to grow and grow and grow

like you invited Jesus to be your

guru, you know, you're growing. What

did you do with that?

Well, when this group introduced us

to the Word we dove into the Word and

see we had started reading

it. You didn't even have the Bible at

that point? Well, we'd started

reading in Genesis. We thought,

oh, this is interesting. So we

started in Genesis and we were

farmers and we lived

in teepees in nature.

Of course. We were hippies. Of

course. That's how I met my wife. I

had a teepee by a creek and then

she pitched her teepee on the other

side of the creek and that's how we

met and we got married.

This is funny. Been married for 45

years now. Wow.

Beautiful. Beautiful. Yeah. And so,

you know, we were just hungry and we

read lots of spiritual literature,

but finally I read something

in the Bible and it just intrigued

me. So we started in Genesis. It's a

book, you know, you

started in the beginning and we're

farmers working in nature

and we saw how God created

the whole world with abundance. I

mean, every tree bearing fruit, whose

seed is in the fruit,

everything was created to multiply,

to be fruitful. And here we were

farming and we were seeing

fruitfulness and we're praying over

the land. We're seeing, you know,

miraculous crops and

all kinds of things happening. Wow.

And so we, you know, we

just turned towards this God

and we're reading the Bible and it's

really exciting. But when we met

these spirit filled people,

they said, Hey, why don't you jump

ahead to the gospel of John? You

should be reading John.

I agree. I agree. Yep. I'm glad they

caught us before we got

to Leviticus. But anyway,

oh yes. So we got into John and

suddenly this living word

came alive in us and we,

we studied the Bible. We were in the

Bible all the time,

reading it all the time,

farming and reading the Bible and in

nature, seeing his

creation, encountering God,

and just saw miracles happening even

on the farm. There was a whole hoard

of locusts came through

eating everything on the top of the

mesa coming right across our farm.

And we had a huge vegetable

garden. And, and so I read Malachi,

read in Malachi where it says he'll

rebuke the devourer.

And you believed it. And so I went

out and I read it to

the locusts. I said, Hey,

this is what God says. I just want

you guys to know we tied, he's going

to rebuke you. You're

not going to devour our crops. So I

went to bed and I thought they'd all

be gone. I went out in

the garden and they weren't, they

covered our entire garden. But when I

inspected, they didn't

take one bite. They moved across the

fields. They didn't take one bite.

You know, the corn was ripe

and you know, the, it was silking. So

if they ate that, they would never

mature. Tomatoes were

ripe on the vine. Not one bite from

our entire crop. That is incredible.

So check it out. I read

this in a day and I tell you it is

well wordy. It was amazing to me

because my night terrors left.

They haven't been there. And now I

sleep every night and it's something

I have not been accustomed

to for many years. So I tell you

there's transformation

and there's healing in these

books and that is all about God. So

you were amazed. You were changed.

You were transformed.

God got ahold of you. You thought you

had it all right. It

was completely different,

but God worked with you. But then

your daughter was born and she had an

issue with her eyes.

What actually happened? So do you

want to know about her

birth or after her birth?

When did we get both? Okay. Because

her birth was supernatural as well.

Wow. So I remember

we were hippies living in T.V. Yeah.

Yeah. You were only there and not in

the hospital, right?

Right. And so we, you know, we just

didn't go to doctors. We just lived

off the land. So when

Linda became pregnant, we believe

that birth is just a natural thing.

God created it. And so we

were planning to just have our baby

at home and which we did. And we

hadn't gone to a doctor.

We were healthy. We were vibrant. But

Linda began to spot a little bit of

blood at one point during

the pregnancy. And a friend of hers

was going to town and going to a

doctor because her friend was

pregnant. And she went along with her

not for herself, but to support her

friend. And then the

doctor said, well, you're pregnant.

Do you want me to check you? And she

said, well, yeah, I'm

spotting a little bit of blood. Maybe

you could tell me what's happening.

And he, he checked her

all out and he freaked out. He said,

you've got placenta previa. You know,

the placenta is going

to come out first. You're going to

bleed to death. The baby's going to

die. You could die. He just

told her horrible things. And she

came home just shook it up. And so we

hugged each other and we

prayed and the peace of God came just

fell upon us. And we were just

saturated. And we were just

immersed in his peace. Linda laid

down and she just laid in the peace

of God and felt everything's

going to be okay. So now I'm not

saying this is the thing to do, but

we just didn't go back to a

doctor ever again. But you had the

peace of the Lord. We had the peace.

And so when it was time

to have the baby, Linda was just

vibrant that morning. She said, it's

going, going to be today.

And I was a farmer, so I was out

doing the crops and rushing back

home. What's happening? She didn't

have any pain, no labor pain, but she

just knew she was glowing. She knew

this is the day. So I

came back just before sunset and she

said, you know, I, I just feel a

little bit like I have to go to

the bathroom. She was in no pain. And

suddenly I knew I said, sit down

quickly. And she sat down

and all of a sudden the baby began to

push its way out and boom in, in less

than a half an hour

with no pain, the baby was born.

That's a great birth. That's a good

birth. Wow. And so the two

of us in a, you know, a little place

that I'd made with, you know, a dirt

floor, no running water,

no electricity. We delivered our

first baby as the sun set and the

moon rose. And there our baby was.

And so the whole thing was a miracle.

There was no placenta previa, no

bleeding, no complications.

Praise God. But the only thing is we,

we found day after day that we named

her Faith actually,

because, you know, we'd had the

promise of God by faith that

everything was

going to be okay. We had

his peace. We knew everything would

be okay. So as we lay in bed that

night, my wife said,

I think her name is Faith. I went,

yes, that's right. It's

the promise of God by faith.

Because we'd been reading Abraham and

the child of promise by faith. Yes.

Yes. And so we named

her Faith, but we found that she

couldn't, couldn't track with her

eyes. There was something wrong.

And so eventually we took her to a

doctor and found that she had

congenital cataracts. She

had full cataracts over each of her

eyes. Oh, wow. And so this is

actually what led us to

go to that prayer meeting was we were

looking for healing. And we asked the

only person Linda knew

who knew about God was a woman she

worked for in her orchard. And the

woman prayed with all her

workers before they went to work. And

so she said, is there a group of

people who believe

God see miracles, you know, do that.

And she said, yes, there's a group of

charismatic people in

this village. They meet every

Wednesday night. And so we went down

and that's how we met these,

these people at this prayer meeting.

They invited us in. Did they pray for

her? Oh yeah. Tons. We,

you know, they prayed, we pray, they

took us to healing

seminars and all kinds of things.

And the amazing thing is that she

could always do things that she

wasn't supposed to be able to do.

Such as? The doctor said she would

never see color because

her retina wasn't developed,

but she called everybody. This was by

the time she was two,

she would say, you know,

that lady with the black shirt, you

know, that lady with the red, she

could always see color.

They said that would, is impossible

to have it developed. Wow. We did

have the cataracts

removed in a surgery, but the doctor

said, you know, it's not really going

to help. She's not

going to be able to have good vision.

She won't be able to see things. So

we took her in for

an examination and she had a little

bag of almonds and she

dropped it on his floor and

they spread out everywhere. His floor

was linoleum and had little oval

brown spots on it. Oh,

that's impossible. She went to every

almond and picked it up

and never went to a spot.

And the doctor said, that's

impossible. She can't do that. She

did. Yep. She was

sitting in the chair

and she pointed to the wall and she

said, dad, that's the same calendar

that you have on your

wall. And he said, she can't see

that. And so the doctors have always

tested her and she's not

supposed to be able to see, but she's

always been able to see not

perfectly. She's needed glasses.

And still, that's huge. They said

she's legally blind, but she went to

university. She studied

music. She, you know, she can read

music. She's traveled the world. She

actually got her driver's

license. She drives. Yeah. I mean,

just all of these things have

happened, but the doctor say

it's impossible that she can't do

those things. So the healing is this

weird thing. One of the

ladies in that prayer meeting, when

we were praying for her site back

when she was two years old,

said, I see a vision and I see faith

standing. That's her name. Faith is

standing in this pool

of water and there's a tree over her.

And when she looks up, the

tree is full of blossoms,

but the pool is muddy and disgusting

and murky. Wow. When she looks down,

the pool is crystal

clear, but the tree is bare branches.

And so there's something about her

that she's going to

see things that other people can't

see. And so she's able to apparently

see stuff. She does. And

she still would like to have 100%

perfect vision, but she

does amazing things. So Chuck,

we're almost out of time, but would

you be willing to pray for people

with eye issues right now?

Yes. Shall we do that right now? Yes.

We've seen blind eyes

open. And so right now,

if you have any issue with your eyes,

just put your hands over your eyes.

And right now I declare

vision. I declare sight to the blind.

He opens blind eyes. I declare light

coming in and clarity

coming in, focus coming in, cataracts

dissolving, glaucoma disappearing,

100% clear vision in the

mighty name of Jesus. Wow. Wow. And I

know God's doing that right now. Yes.

He paid that price.

the dead. And I admit,

I have blown it. I have made

mistakes. I tell you, God wants to be

there for you too.
