my own anger when that decision

was handed down from the grand jury.

That was a mistake

and I regret it.

I'll be damned.

The death of Diego Perez was a tragedy,

but it was a tragedy of his own making.

The shooting death of Officer Hayes

was a cowardly act of vengeance.

If Mr. Santana

is guilty, then Mr. Santana

deserves to be punished.

But there's been enough violence, and as your mayor,

I urge everyone to remain calm

and let our system work.
