I've been thinking about luck a lot lately, ever since I had to leave Solar

and come home.

The one thought goes round and round in my head.

Why me? Why did it happen to me?

I mean, it was not like I was the only guy on the beat. So why did she pick me

out? It wasn't like I'd done anything to provoke it. It just came out of

nowhere, for no reason at all.

The funny thing is that at the time, everyone thought it was fantastic luck

I got all the attention.

Later, when I got glandular fever, everything seemed to go in reverse.

Suddenly, it was like the worst kind of bad luck.

Every day since, I just keep thinking, if only.

If only I hadn't been in that spot at that time. If only I hadn't stopped when

saw her coming. If only I'd kept walking, then I'd still be where I

back at Solar Blue.

Those guys just have no idea how lucky they are.
