My name is Stephen Riley.

I'm from Seattle, Washington, and I've been listening to Sigur Rós for just over 10 years.

Over 20 years, since I was in college.

About 25 years.

About six years ago.

But I really, like, listened to it.

Were there a song on the film Vanilla Sky?

Around later in elementary school, when my dad introduced it to me.

My little brother has been a part of my story with Sigur Rós from the beginning,

and he's why I'm here today, so yeah.

- When I was a teenager, I was going down a hill

and I went through a stop sign

and there was another car coming to my left

and it hit me in the legs.

It's the point where I then turned my body

and the back of my head hit the windshield.

Without a helmet on, I sustained a traumatic brain injury,

which resulted in a partial cerebellum ectomy.

The therapist allowed us to play our own music on Fridays.

And there was a time where I said,

hi, I have something I wanna play.

It's a little weird, it's a live recording,

but I think it'll help me as I walk.

- She was, Sadie was born,

well, when she was born,

that song was playing in the hospital.

And so that was the first song that she ever heard,

and we're meeting her for the first time to that music,

and it's the end of this journey.

So I have done probably now 14 years of ballet.

Sigur Rós was a huge contributor

to how I became the artist and move to that I am today.

There's no light in the studio,

and I just closed my eyes as the song kept playing,

and I started crying, like, just on the floor.

I was 14 years old. I was completely lost.

I had just gotten out of a courtroom because I was sexually abused as a child.

I lost half my friends. I've lost my best friend.

And I lost my understanding of what I thought the world was.

But it was okay because I had the parentheses on.

What is your favorite band?

And I said, well, it's this band from Iceland.

I don't know.

Sigur Rós.

I said, Sigur Rós.

And immediately she said yes.

And then from there, it was the best date I ever had.

So on March 24th, my brother died.

the week before he died, he sent me a message saying that he'd seen that

Siger Rose was starting a tour again, and we had always wanted to go to a concert together.

And I didn't respond to his message right away, because he texted me in the middle of the night,

and you know, I got busy. I think he's here. He's helping me get through this.

I think that the main quality of the music is the fact that it has enough space for us

to be immersed in music and then suddenly you find yourself surrounded by something that

makes you comfortable enough to express yourself and to look inside.
