something was really strange. His

mannerisms and activities that change.

Turns out Bill's wife Nancy is also
finding discrepancies in their personal

finances.

Nancy Douglas knew something was going
on and she knew the money is gone. She

knew something was up.

numbers.

Suspicions only grow when university
officials begin checking his expenses

by line. Bill, we need to talk.

There were strange things showing up

It didn't take too long for folks to

But he was the only person who ever
allegedly worked with her. Nobody else

saw her. He was paying her $1 ,000 a
month, which was far more than any other

grad student received.

Well, think about it.

Bill, there's Ameth Benedict on the
phone. She keeps calling.

set up in his office where his family,

When Jane finds a suggestive note, it's
the final straw.

She saw a transcription that was on the
page from Miss Benedict, who she had

never seen, who'd been getting $1 ,000 a
month, and it just told her that

something was going on.

In November 1982, Jane reports her boss
to university officials.

Jane was key because she really began to
put the pieces together. Something was

terribly wrong here.

What is Bill Douglas hiding?

Professor Bill Douglas is keeping
secrets.

Money is missing from his personal and
professional accounts, and nobody seems

to know anything about his mysterious
new hire,

At first, I was still trying to get my

missing, and it was just overwhelming.

Another week passes, and still no word
from Robin.

Her father was distraught. He went to

publicity. The story initially was
beautiful.

The commercial artist goes missing,
distraught dad.

Having found out that she was a

There was no doubt that jacket belonged
to Robin Benedict.

She wasn't missing. There was something
far more sinister.

Focus immediately turned to Robin's so
-called boyfriend, Louis Jones.

His actions were very suspicious because
they had sized him up as a pimp, and so

he became suspect number one.

around the corner. A pair of women's

underwear police later determined
belonged to Robin.

One of the troopers found a blue
windbreaker and just happened to notice

little blood and they took it.

recovered in the dumpster.

in jail, investigators continue to

But Douglas is not talking, other than
to maintain his innocence.

The DA approached us, said, look, We can
get him to plead guilty to

manslaughter. We can end this, save you
some grief.

If he gives us the body, we'll accept
the plea bargain.

On the morning of the trial, they
stopped the proceedings, and it was

that Professor Douglas was going to
plead guilty.

But he pled guilty to manslaughter.

Douglas finally gets his version of that
fateful night.

Bill Douglas told very self -serving
stories that tried to make himself look

like the victim.

No. I mean, come on. It doesn't make
sense to me. It's all lies.

her body. So as far as we know, that's

probably where Robin remains forever.

They never got what the family really
wanted with her remains so they could

Bill pleads guilty to manslaughter and
is sentenced to 18 to 20 years.
