Home. My parents always wanted the best for me.

They had dreams of me becoming a doctor.

I tried to want it for a few years.

And I even started med school.

And I was pretty good for a few years at being

who I thought I should be.

But then every day after these long, grueling classes in school

I would come home and I would be in the kitchen,

cooking deep into the night.

And I think that for me, that was a kind of a release.

You know, it's how I found my peace.

I get that.

And, of course, Andrew was my roommate at the time.

So he ate like a king.

Well, I realized that by being who my parents wanted me to be,

I was missing out on my own life.

I bet your parents were thrilled.

Yeah, no. They, they...

They did not think that I could have a career as a chef.

They didn't think it was a real job.

But, I took the risk and faced their disappointment

to go to culinary school.

Wow. So you, you really committed then.

Yeah, I put in the hard work and pursued the flavors

that inspired me, found my voice.

You know, the restaurant success is just a bonus.

Honestly, it's kind of a hindrance.

And I feel like I can't be creative or try big bold

new things, just in case it doesn't work out.

You know honestly, it feels like being back in medical school.

I feel like I'm doing everything to please other people.

That must be tough.

Maybe that's why you're such a breath of fresh air.

You remind me of the importance of taking risks.

Angie always jokes that my daydreaming is going to get me

no I always find that it's my saving grace.
