we have here the 25 -year

-old mortgage.

Seriously, I remember the first time
that Joan and I ever saw this house.

We were sitting in the car right out
front, and we just sat in the car, and

stared at the house.

It needed a paint job, and there was
much more money than we could afford.

Gosh, I don't know how we did it, but we
did scrape up the down payment. And we

got it painted. I mean, it took a full
summer of weekends.

And by August 1st, it was half green and
half white.

But then, alas, the plumbing backed up.

$600 worth and three weeks of hard work
at eating off paper plates.

It's 25 years later now, and the house
still needs a little painting,

and the plumbing still isn't terrific,
but it's ours.
