- Previously on Wild West Chronicles.
(punching aggressively)
- We're outnumbered in this town.
- One good man,
maybe all it takes to turn the tide.
- We've got our hooks in you now.
Don't we Masterson.
- It's been a while.
Since you were in town spike care to share your plans?
- Taking a show of Dora Hand
still gracing the stage
- * stay by my side
- * If you love me
- Tell me that's not worth fighting for.
- I'm the man of the hour.
- Watch out Bat.
- Dora!
- Pinning after something,
you can't have that's where lies madness.
(gunshots firing)
- Spike did this.
- You gave me the badge Wyatt
and I intend to use it.
To do what kill him?
Don't get in my way.
(yelling) Bat! Bat!
(train engine roaring)
- I was just a young man.
When I first headed west,
the years that followed, I became a cowboy,
a gunslinger, and even served as sheriff
of Dodge city.
The most lawless towns in the country.
My name is Bat Masterson.
Now I'm a reporter
and I've come west again to chronicle
the world that I know the best.
The American west
lure of gold,
land,
destiny,
flooded the frontier with men,
both good and bad.
These are the incredible,
true tales of the wild west.
(wild west chronicles)
* List while I woo thee with soft melody *
* Gone are the cares of life's busy throng *
* Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me *
* Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me *
( audience cheering)
(audience clapping)
- Bat Masterson, is that you?
- Howdy, Dora!
I was hoping for an autograph.
- I heard you were back in Dodge.
How long do you plan to stick around this time?
- Maybe for good.
You're looking at the new owner
of the Lone Star dance hall,
could use a singer.
- I'm flattered,
but the mayor's drawing up my contract
as we speak.
What are you really doing here, Bat?.
- Like I said,
plant roots.
We're gonna build something.
- And this is strictly a business proposition.
- Fine,
fine,
Dora we-
Dora?
(intense piano playing)
Spike!
- You are too late Sheriff.
- She's gone,
you failed!
(gunshot firing)
- Whoa, buddy!
don't shoot.
- Wyatt
- I am not going back to Dodge
not without Spike.
- I know,
it's why we're here.
- He's gotta pay for killing Dora.
- He will,
but we gotta show the people.
we can mete out real justice.
- How many times has Spike slipped
out of the noose because
of his old man's money.
Justice is a joke to these people,
They play by their own rules.
I say we played by ours.
- It's not a choice.
You and I swore an oath,
an oath to uphold the law.
We'll see this through Bat,
but we bring him back alive.
You hear me?
Alive.
(door knocking)
- Excuse me, Mr. Masterson,
you cannot leave us
in such a state of suspense, sir.
- Mr. Masterson.
- I am so sorry.
- Edgar,
who is this?
- This is my - Ellie!
She's my-
- I am his wife, his (speaking foreign language )
other than the newspaper job, of course.
And though I should be crossed with you,
Mr. Masterson.
The fact is when I heard the tale,
Wyatt Earp and the murder of Dora Hand
a tail crudely left unfinished.
Well, I knew that I would not be able to sleep
until I had heard the end.
- I can use some coffee.
- Excellent idea!
Edgar, dear would you make us a pot?
- Yes, my love.
(clears throat)
- So, you left Dodge in pursuit of Spike Kennedy.
How long did it take you to track him down?
- Long enough!
We knew Spike would head for Texas
where his family could protect him.
- Race against time.
- Not to mention the elements.
We got hit by a wall of rain and thunder
I'd steered teams through worst,
my Buffalo hunting days,
but
time was slipping away.
So was Spike.
(thunder clapping)
Luckily I knew a little used shortcut
to get around him.
(thunder clapping)
We can jump the trail here, cut him off,
at the old ranch house.
- Before he reaches mete city,
brilliant.
(dramatic music playing)
- Are you sure he will come through here Bat?
- every pope between dodge city and Texas
knows this place is abandoned.
Hunt spike.
Swear. I gotta hunker down.
- Bat. Take the barn.
We'll search the grounds.
(gunshots firing)
- Show yourself Spike!
(breathing heavily)
(horse neighing)
(gunshots firing)
(gunshots firing)
- Get the horses.
(panting)
- Alert Bat!
(upbeat music playing)
(wild west chronicles)
(dramatic music playing)
- Oh
(shotgun clicking)
(shotgun firing)
Oh
(breathing heavily)
(shotgun clicking)
- What took you so long?
- It's over Spike
- Did I get him?
Is Kelly dead?
- Mayor's alive.
- He wasn't alone.
Dora was with him.
- Dora?
- That's right you filth.
You killed her.
- You should have made a better shot.
- Well I did the best I could.
- Pull the trigger.
(yelling) Pull it!
(breathing heavily)
- Huh, hope you didn't waste anytime hanging him.
- Ellie.
- Don't get ahead of yourself.
Vengeance is swift but justice demands patience.
Of course, people of Dodge
shared your sentiment.
We got Spike back across the deadline
news spread through Dodge like a wildfire.
We didn't know what to expect.
(dramatic music playing)
- There you are you cowardly little,
oh I have dreamt of this,
bet you think you'd reason
out of this don't you?
Not this time son, this time, you hang!
- Sheriff, they are coming for him.
- Who is Bill?
- Just crossed the deadline, be here any minute.
- Mr. Mayor now would be a good time
to address your constituents.
- I uh, I think that's more a matter for the law.
Gentlemen!
(slamming door)
- Look kind of sad, are you boys running?
- Stay at my back if you have to shoot aim high.
Gonna try to reason with them.
- I think I am with them Wyatt
we all know how this ends
does it really matter
who strings him up?
(people yelling)
- Good evening gents
Something' we can help you with?
- You can clear out Marshall,
we aint got no quarrel with you
we just come for spike.
- Well this is a pickle
'cause fact of the matter is
we got him first
and he ain't goin' anywhere
you have my word.
- You can't promise that
his rich dad is coming to bail him out.
- I hear you.
I see your anger
and I share it.
But this isn't who we are
we gotta show we are better than
the likes of him.
(crowd yelling)
- We will vacate Earp
'cause we are coin' in
(crowd getting aggressive)
(upbeat music playing)
(wild west chronicles)
- Come on, come on (crowd yelling)
(shotgun firing)
- Nobody's leaving this jail tonight.
Nobody's coming in.
- Everyone go home,
Go home now!
(melancholy music playing)
- I don't know what to say
Got a new singer The Alhambra
Got a voice like a rusty squeezebox
I am having these dreams
I keep trying' to tell you something
and you won't let me.
Huh, like I am talking to myself
that was the day it all went south
Mifflin Kennedy came to Dodge
patriarch of a Texas cattle empire
a 1,75,000 acre ranch
Spike's last hope for deliverance.
- But you knew Spike's father would come.
Why didn't you stop him?
- Well you can't keep a free citizen
from going where he likes
specially not one that kept
half of Dodge at work.
This man bought in 15,000
head of cattle every year.
Hearing was set, all we could do is wait
- Let's go. Judge is waiting.
(intense music playing)
- If I not see you again sheriff
I sure enjoyed our time with you.
- Oh , you'll see me again
When you take your last walk to the gallows.
Spike's father met with the judge
behind closed doors
the whole city seemed stopped breathing.
Our minds went wild waiting.
- He's back.
- Where is he? What happened?
- Uh! (sighing aggressively)
he walked!
- What?
- They said they didn't have
enough evidence to hold him
It's the judge, I will never prove it
but he was behind it.
- Where's Spike now?
Wyatt where?
(horse snorting)
(dramatic music playing)
- What are you doing?
- What you couldn't.
Ending this.
- I can't let you do that.
- Get out of my way!
(punching aggressively)
- Bat,
stop it!
- Was it our fault Wyatt
we did everything right
played by the rules and look what happened.
- We don't have to like it.
We just have to accept it.
- It's not good enough.
( throwing badge )
- Bat!
I won't stop you.
But if you do this,
if you ride out
into the flat lands alone with
only your rage to guide you
you will never find your way back.
(door slamming)
(dramatic music playing)
(horse snorting)
(upbeat music playing)
(wild west chronicles)
(intense music playing)
- Mr. Masterson?
Mr. Masterson?
Did you pursue?
- I went to see an old friend.
Spike is gone ,
he got away
And there is nothing I can do about it
it was you,
all I wanted to do is
keep you safe
Dora forgive me!
(inspiring music playing)
- Huh
what a story!
- But after all that Spike got away?
Again?
- No one ever truly escapes judgment
not even Spike
all the money in the world
can't bribe Typhoid fever
he died,
few years later.
- Well, I imagine you and Mr. Earp
had no small share of adventures.
- Oh, there were a few.
But they are best told another time.
- Well, thank you for indulging us.
- You remind me of her you know
you have her spirit.
Edgar,
I expect you on time in the morning.
- Of course, good night sir.
- Many people believe Dora Hand
was the most talented woman
to ever pass through Dodge.
She was just 34 years old
when she was so tragically killed.
Though never convicted of the crime,
James "Spike" Kennedy was 23 years old
when he shot and killed Dora Hand.
With the help of some very brave men
Wyatt Earp and I finally brought
law and order to Dodge city.
- You know most people wouldn't believe
half the stuff we live through.
- I hope someday somebody writes about all this.
- You are right, maybe it's you.
- Me?
- Why not? Someone's gotta write the story
someone who's seen it all
someone who's lived through it.
