(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC)
MAN: Dating is definitely hard.
It's like finding a needle in a haystack.
WOMAN: Disappointment after disappointment.
And you go on these dating apps,
it's actually such a disposable culture.
MAN: You don't know who's sleeping with who.
You don't know who's talking to who.
It's just like a cesspool at the moment.
NARRATOR: Singles of Australia are facing a dating crisis.
WOMAN: So, one time I was on this date with this guy, and he
told me it was a huge red flag
if a girl is, like, a doctor or has a career, because
she's never available.
The dating pool is getting smaller...
WOMAN: All the men on the dating apps are just recycled profiles.
It is slim pickings.
..and modern day technology is leaving singles lonelier
and more disillusioned than ever before.
WOMAN: I was on a dating app and someone just messaged
me saying, "Hey, do you want to come around?"
That is the laziest sentence I've ever heard.
MAN: Social media and dating apps has really kind of
broken dating.
We see as many people as our ancestors did, in a day, that
they did in their lifetime.
So we have this unrealistic metric for, you know, who's
right for us.
(HOPEFUL MUSIC)
But with the help of our experts,
ten extraordinary brides...
WOMAN: I am doing this to find the love of my life.
..will be matched with ten hopeful grooms...
MAN: I want to fall in love because I know what love is and I know
how powerful it is.
..as they finally close the chapter on
their single lives...
WOMAN: What would complete me, is finding my person.
..and take the ultimate leap of faith...
MAN: There's been moments I've lost hope, but this
experiment has definitely given me that hope again.
..when they marry at first sight.
WOMAN: Deep down all I want is love and to love someone.
I'm so ready for that.
It's the global obsession that
viewers can't get enough of.
Oh my god, MAFS is back!
Married at First Sight Australia is back.
MAFS starts tonight.
What in the world is this show?
I love it.
One episode turns into two episodes.
Pregnancy obsession is Married At First Sight Australia.
And then two episodes turns into three episodes.
The man of stone.
Oh, that's right, you met on that show, right?
Married At First Sight.
Yep. That's amazing.
The old arrangement-ship.
The TV show that I'm currently watching is
Married At First Sight Australia.
Yep.
And the Married at First Sight experiment has
officially returned for 2025
with the traditional Bucks and Hens night,
as we welcome our first bride to be.
(SEDUCTIVE MUSIC)
I would describe the modern man as like a wet fish.
No backbone, no drive.
They're not masculine.
I just think that men these days are basically women, but men
that are pussies definitely would not agree with me.
(CHUCKLES)
Am I the first person here?
I feel like a man's role in a relationship is to want
to provide for the family and want to protect.
My role is to serve my husband.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
I think I was definitely born in the wrong era.
I really wish I was born in, like, 1920, where gender
roles were so prominent.
Men could be men and women could be women.
I think instinctively, where I'm happiest and where
I think a lot of women are happiest is in their feminine,
being the homemaker and, like, the caretaker, so that when
he comes home from, you know, most likely running a very
successful business, it's like a peaceful environment.
You know, don't be nagging your husband.
Don't be asking them to do mundane things like
unpack the dishwasher and take the bins out.
That's what I think.
Can I get a margarita? MAN: You can, of course.
Thank you so much.
I will be honest.
I am, I'm a little nervous, but I'm excited.
And it is nice to let our hair down every now and then.
I met my son's dad when I was 15 years old.
We broke up just before I turned 30, so we were
together for a really long time.
And then when my ex and I broke up, I went on dating apps,
and I chickened out of so many dates.
I genuinely thought, you know, I'm 30 years old,
I do have a six year old child,
who's going to want to date me?
Hi. How are you? Hello.
AWHINA: So, I'm going on this experiment because I need
the help from the experts to find love and to help me
find my confidence again.
Because I would be an incredible partner to someone.
And someone out there is going to really love all
the qualities I'm going to bring to a relationship.
Hi. Hi.
I'm Awhina. I'm Carina.
Is it Athena? Awhina.
Awhina. Carina?
Carina. Carina.
It's a rhythm going on.
Awhina, Carina, Lauren.
So, you guys excited?
Yeah. Yeah?
Guys, we're getting married.
Like, what the heck?
(CLOP CLOP OF HIGH HEEL SHOES)
(ANGELIC VOCALISING)
WOMAN: My dad prays every single week that I find a husband
who is some good Greek boy.
You know, his father is respected in the community.
But, like, I want a husband that is a cross between
David Beckham and someone who's done 20 to Life.
(LAUGHS)
There are some brides in the house.
Hi.
Hello. I'm Awhina.
I'm Jamie. Nice to meet you.
This dress! What the hell?
So, are you guys excited? Yeah.
Yeah? How old is everyone?
Thirty. Thirty-one. Thirty-seven.
You're 37?
Are you joking?
You must be having a lot of sex or something.
You've just got this youth to you.
LAUREN: No, I... No. I... No.
JAMIE: So, what did you ask for then?
Tattoos are, like, my... Like, I need tattoos.
I don't do the virgin skin.
I love that, like, you know, that 20 to Life kind of look.
Oh.
Eugh!
As the first four hens settle in for the night,
across town, we meet our first buck, Eliot,
a groom with uncompromising standards.
# I'll be your slave
# I'll misbehave... #
Friends would definitely describe me as too
confident for my own good.
Yeah, probably.
I know I'm a catch, and I have very, very high standards.
The way I see it is,
high standards are you protecting against wasting your time
with the wrong person.
So, if I feel nothing on my wedding day...
I'll leave the experiment.
I wouldn't even finish the ceremony.
It'd be like, mic off.
See ya.
Of course, I'm the first.
(LAUGHS)
Yo!
Hey, how's it going, mate?
Eliot. Eliot? Dave.
Yeah. Grab a seat.
DAVE: When I walk into a room, most people are quick to judge.
"Look how tall this guy is."
Some people might get intimidated, but, yeah,
definitely a bit of a softie.
ELIOT: So, when you spoke with the experts, what was your,
like, non-negotiables?
Mate, I didn't have any, man. Really?
Not in a really... Oh, I had a whole list.
I'm, like, a bit particular.
Like, what's your... What's my type?
Whoa, how long have you got?
(BLEEP) hell! (LAUGHS)
Hey, hey. Whoa!
Hello there. How's it going?
Hey, mate. Eliot. Eliot. Tony. Nice to meet you.
Good to meet you, Tony. Same.
G'day, mate. How are ya? Dave.
You've been good? Yeah.
Nervous? No.
Not really.
What's your story, anyway?
What made you want to participate in this?
Ah, shit, man.
(BOUNCY MUSIC)
Can I talk?
You're just here at the house.
I was just going to make you another cup of tea.
That's what I was going to say.
I'm Tony, I'm 53.
I'm from Wollongong,
one of the most beautiful places down here in New South Wales.
Welcome, welcome.
My mum and dad migrated here from Macedonia back in the '60s
and they, you know, passed away about a year and a half ago
and left me this house here that I was born and raised in.
It's perfectly preserved.
Like, I've still got the chickens in the backyard
my mum left me.
One of those chickens is older than me, man.
How old are you?
Fifty-three, man. Are you?
Get outta town!
I'm the senior citizen here, I reckon.
When was your last relationship?
I've been single now for the last 3 or 4 years.
So it's kind of... OK.
Three years, I think it's been.
So I'm kind of...
You need someone in your life, man.
Mmm.
The relationship my mum and dad had was...
They were together for life.
I miss my parents a lot.
Your parents are the most beautiful
people in the world, so...
Stop.
(EMOTIONALLY) One second.
The old generation, they were together.
They built, you know, their life together.
That's how I want to be, man.
That's nice. You know? That's, that's...
That's what marriage is about, is growing old together.
That's why I'm here.
That's why I'm taking this experiment on.
And if it all falls into place, hello life.
Ha, ha.
Anyway, boys, cheers to you guys.
Yeah. Cheers, buddy.
Good luck in the new life that we're taking on.
I know, right? Oh, yeah.
Let's see what happens, huh?
Opa. Here we go.
Another one. How are you? I'm Billy.
Eliot. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you, bro.
How are we? Good, yourself?
Wow!
You're the token English guy, then?
I'm the English lad, mate. I'm the English.
I'm very, very excited to be getting married.
Cheers, mate. Cheers.
Just get me down that bloody aisle.
Get me at that altar and let me meet my wife.
I'm here. (ECHOES)
Hello, hello, hello. Oh, here we go.
I'm Jake, nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you, brother. You too.
Fellas.
How are you, mate? Jeff.
Billy. Nice to meet you, brother.
Nice to meet you, brother.
Meeting all the lads and that was really, really nice.
What's happening? What's going on here?
Ryan. Dave.
Oh, he's another gentleman that just rocked up.
Adrian, pleasure to meet you, mate. Welcome.
Nice to meet you, buddy. Billy.
Tim. Good to meet you. Nice to meet you, mate.
Nice to be here. How are you? Tim.
Obviously, everyone's on the same wavelength.
Oh, I'm not gonna lie.
I'm nervous. Yeah, I'm nervous too, don't worry.
Are you nervous?
We're all in the same boat, mate.
Everyone seems to be here and open to the experiment.
I don't really have a particular type, you know.
Well, just that she looks like a supermodel, that's all.
Majority of.
Oh, my goodness.
It's all happening, isn't it?
I'm Katie, I'm 37 and I'm from Eumundi, Queensland.
I am a CEO of a social enterprise group of restaurants.
We split our profits, helping others who are really doing
it tough and help them with emergency food,
emergency housing.
I like to do things with heart and empathy.
It doesn't take much to help.
Yeah.
I've got things going for me in my professional
life, but going into this experiment, I'm definitely
scared of being rejected.
I'm used to just people, like, not being attracted to me
because there's a lot more, like, stunning girls that are petite.
They look like they've stepped right
out of Vogue magazine.
Hello! (LAUGHS)
I'm Jamie, nice to meet you. Katie. So nice to meet you.
Hi, Katie, I'm Awhina. My gosh, you girls are stunning.
You look gorgeous. Thank you.
What did you ask for?
I asked for two extremely crucial things.
For him to be single...
and a heartbeat.
(LAUGHTER)
No, honestly, I'm like, I really, really want somebody who's,
like, super kind.
I don't really care what they look like.
Why am I marrying a stranger?
I've been single for ten years and I don't know how
to get into a relationship.
I haven't let myself
dream of 'happily ever after' with somebody.
(EMOTIONALLY) Like, maybe having a family and having my forever
person is not for me.
And I should just not wish for that anymore.
Yeah. (INDISTINCT CHATTER)
But what if Married at First Sight has actually
found me my person?
That's scary.
It's so much easier to just, you know, stay in
a protection mode, like...
But what if you guys have actually found somebody
that can match me?
WOMAN: Katie.
You look stunning.
It's, like, a huge deal.
It's waking up everything again.
Yeah.
Girl, we are getting married.
Like, actually. I know!
I was like... I am, like, starting to tear up.
(LAUGHTER)
Hello.
Got another one. We're twins!
Hello.
WOMAN: I am so excited.
I'm Carina.
We are going to go on a wonderful journey together.
I can't wait to get to know them on a deeper level.
Hi. How are you?
This is as real as it's going to get.
Bring it on.
Hi, ladies.
Hi. Yay!
Hi. Hi.
How are you going? Good. I'm Jamie.
Nice to meet you.
I think right now, like, I'm loving this sisterhood.
I want to all, you know, get laser appointments together.
Hi. How's it going?
You know, run off to the sunset.
Yeah.
Oh, babe, the nose isn't just for show.
I'm loving this.
But I know six weeks from now, it's going to be
a very different story.
And I'm really curious to see
who's going to do my (BLEEP) head in.
(GLASS SHATTERS)
Ooh! Jamie's in the house.
The girl in the pink short dress.
I just want to let everyone know that I'm here.
I've arrived. (LAUGHTER)
Oh, yeah. Jamie.
I mean, she's lovely, but, like, in the real world,
we wouldn't be friends.
Shake shake, shake, baby.
She's too loud. And spilling drinks.
Ooh! What the hell?
We need to get her a new manicure.
Here, this will dry it. (LAUGHS)
Jamie needs to get her nails fixed.
Oh. (BLEEP)
She's just a bit boganic.
It should be in the dictionary, but basically
it's just a word to describe someone who's a bogan.
It's like, if you're a derro, you're like, you're a derelict.
You're a bogan. You're, like, boganic.
I feel like my nipples are hard with excitement.
I think I've said enough.
What do you want to see when you arrive to your wedding day?
I don't care about looks at all.
Yeah, just someone emotionally mature.
Like, someone who actually, like, wants to grow with you and be
a better person with you.
Someone who's, like, just classy.
I think I should have been born in the 1920s where men
dressed like gentlemen.
Yes.
Like, a really handsome European.
Yes.
(MAN SPEAKING FRENCH)
I'm originally from France, from Nice, and I've been living
in Australia for 11 years now.
Hey, boys. Yeah.
Paul.
Paul? Tony. Nice to meet you, mate.
Nice to meet you too. How are you, bro?
So, why do you want to marry a stranger?
To be honest.
Look, mate, I've been disappointed in love,
like, way too many times.
I've had my heart broken, you know.
Got cheated on pretty badly.
Quite a few times. Even as a French man?
You're supposed to be the masters of love.
You'd be like a god, mate. What are you talking about, dude?
Look, you're handsome, good looking,
roses hanging out of your mouth.
Yeah.
Even a Frenchman gets his heart broken, mate.
It happens to you, too, so we're in the same boat, man.
So, what do you all want to get out of this whole experience?
I've got a lot of hope for this. Like, a lot.
Like, I'm really optimistic about it.
And I'm done with being single in Sydney, hey.
I just want to meet my match.
I've definitely reflected a lot after relationships,
and I think I've been the one that's cared too much.
I haven't... And you haven't felt it back.
Yeah, I haven't had my equal with caring, I think.
That to me is a little bit of a red flag.
(HARSH STING)
I think that can be an eek...
if you're over caring.
No, that's that's a good trait to have, man.
Don't ever hold yourself back from caring more like you do, bro.
Like, that's the key thing of who you are.
Maybe just, like,
peel it back a little bit... No, no, no.
..in the beginning and then... Don't listen to this guy.
Trust me.
You're like the little devil on the shoulder, bro.
Tell her she looks awful.
Ooh.
Trust me.
Eliot, yeah,
he was definitely a bit more controversial in the group.
Oh, there's a bit of friction here.
What are you hoping to see when you turn around
at the altar?
What if you see the girl and she's just
not your type at all?
(EDGY MUSIC)
If that isn't my usual type, then I feel like
you've still got to try.
If you're here and you're not 100% in, like,
you're sort of kidding yourself.
Well, what do you mean by 100% in?
(EDGY MUSIC)
Why did you want to come into this experience then?
Well, I'll see the cards and then I'll make my bet.
So, if you're not attracted to her, are you gonna go home?
Oh. (BLOWS A RASPBERRY)
I'd be out of there quick as a flash.
Yeah, yeah, 100%.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
Like, whoa!
Everyone heard that.
That's not exactly a first impression
you want to put towards people you're
gonna be spending a lot of, lot of time with.
The guy with the bobby cut hair, looks like Tom Cruise,
what's his name?
Eliot, yeah.
That kid, he's direct.
There's gonna be some issues, dramas there, man.
I can feel it already, dude.
I'm pretty decisive.
Like, I'd give it till the reception.
GIRL: To getting married.
(GLASSES CLINK) (CHEERING)
To the lucky guys. (GLASSES CLINK)
Oh. Cheers, boys. Cheers.
Cheers for that. Absolutely.
I think there's, like, certain boxes that have to be ticked.
Definitely.
If I feel nothing on my wedding day, I'll leave the experiment.
Alright. Can I get out of here now?
Yeah. Awesome.
Coming up...
Eliot's getting married.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
Will he or won't he do a runner?
(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC)
Well, here we are again.
It's the 2025 Married at First Sight experiment.
How absolutely exciting to
finally unveil and have a little chat about these
matches we have for this year, no?
Well, let's get straight to it.
First up, Carina.
Now, she's one of the most sophisticated singles that we've
ever had in this experiment.
And when you first see her and meet her, you'd be forgiven
for thinking that she's got the world at her feet.
But scratch the surface and go a little deeper,
there's a lot more to Carina than meets the eye.
I would say I'm definitely the black sheep of the family.
Every single person in my family is married.
My four siblings all married their high school sweethearts
from a very young age.
So, every Christmas, every Easter, all the siblings
have got two placemats and then I've got one.
So, I'm so ready to have two placemats at that table.
I'm deserving of that.
My parents have owned our family business for 40 years.
And literally everyone in my family works there.
Dad said, we're going to start off with
in a financial meeting.
We're all very, very close.
We have houses up the road from one another.
We have ten nieces and nephews and there's
so many grandchildren.
It's a big, loud house.
Guys, dinner's ready. Hurry up. Let's eat.
It's just, it's a lot.
But I wouldn't have it any other way.
Because at the end of the day, family is everything.
Start dishing up. Let's eat.
(INDISTINCT CHATTER)
We are a very big Italian family, and I do
feel the pressure of getting married, especially
the past couple of years.
This photo is going to be replaced with Carina
and her perfect partner.
ALL: Yay!
Finally no selfie. (LAUGHS)
My mum wants me to find a partner so bad that she
literally will speak to people at church, and knowing that
they have got grandchildren, she'll show them photos of me
and try to match it up.
We're getting desperate nowadays.
I think it's my turn now.
(EMOTIONALLY) I've seen everyone else go through it,
and I never kind of, like, visioned me to get married, so...
I've been very fortunate to see what a healthy
relationship looks like from seeing my parents' marriage.
And deep down, all I want is to find my husband and grow
a family of my own.
What are you crying for?
Yeah. I thought I made you happy.
(LAUGHTER)
No, it's just quite emotional.
My ideal man would be tall, handsome,
really romantic,
family oriented,
and European.
That would be the icing on the cake.
(SPEAKS FRENCH)
To me, affection in a relationship is super
important, and my biggest love language is physical touch.
I love a good cuddle, you know. (CHUCKLES)
I'm a big softie.
When I really love someone, I'll make sure that they know.
What's your manifestation of this man?
I'm a romantic at heart.
Like, I would love for our generation to
come pick me up from home
and take me to a restaurant or take me out.
Isn't that kind of just basic?
Oh, I hope it is.
But today's day and age a lot of guys don't do that.
I know it sounds so old school, but I'll call her while she's
at work and I say, hey, just get ready for this time.
I'll pick you up.
Open the door. Close the door.
I know it sounds so cliche, but I do do these things, you know?
I moved to Australia 11 years ago.
I was just a young teenager.
I could barely speak a word of English.
I was extremely shy.
I had to start everything from scratch.
I'm currently working FIFO,
so, Fly-In, Fly-Out, as a health and lifestyle coordinator.
I'm there to support miners' mental health through
fitness and through nutrition and overall lifestyle.
What I like the most about my job is the fact that it's
a really rewarding job.
Like, just just seeing someone who's been struggling for years
and who all of a sudden just makes the first step
and ends up changing their whole life,
that's priceless.
I have been in love, of course.
And I've been in love twice and got my heart broken twice.
In my first long term relationship,
we were together for 5.5 years.
I met her in France.
Thought she was the one?
I thought she was the one.
She decided to quit everything back home.
And she also decided to come to Australia with me.
Mmm!
Which, for me, that was, like, one of the biggest signs of love.
And during that process, I found out that she was cheating.
Ahh.
So, betrayed.
That was like the biggest stab in the back.
I'm not gonna lie. I was a mess.
I still had scars.
That break up, you know, took me a long time
to even just trust people even in general.
I'm curious to know what you think about marriage now.
You're still keen to make that extra commitment, even though
it hasn't worked in the past.
You're ready for it.
I am, yeah.
To me, marriage is a sign of commitment.
A lot of people, they get married because they like
the idea of getting married.
You should get married because you want to be
dedicated to just one person.
My parents have been married for 40 years, and I am
really close to my family.
I do want my future partner to also be close to her family.
What I want in a partner, it's pretty simple.
I just want someone who's respectful,
someone who's affectionate,
someone who's positive,
and who just loves life.
Knowing that there is another person somewhere
in Australia that I've been matched with and she's
going to be my future wife,
honestly, it's the most surreal feeling ever.
Haven't fell in love in a long time.
And I love hard quite quickly.
And once I love, there's no stopping the love train, you know.
(LAUGHS)
That first pairing, Carina and Paul.
This is one that really excites me.
Her parents have been married for 40 plus years,
and she really looks up to that relationship.
And what I find particularly
interesting about the two of them is that
they both hold those very traditional values.
And that's pretty rare these days in modern dating.
Paul's going to bring stability and chivalry and romance.
And I think ultimately they're two people that
can express feelings.
And for that, I think we've got a match that
really has huge potential.
Absolutely. They're ready.
The very first couple has been unveiled, Carina and Paul.
Next to enter the experiment is Eliot, the outspoken groom
with unrelenting standards.
My friends would definitely describe me as blunt,
too direct, uncompromising,
a bit of a control freak.
I feel like I know better.
I have a very high tolerance and a thick skin, so I tend
to treat people that way.
Yeah, yeah, they do a lot. (CHUCKLES)
My name is Eliot.
I'm 35, and I'm from the Gold Coast.
I have a part ownership in a number of small businesses.
Some of those being in tourism overseas,
and then in Australia,
I work in renovations.
So, I'm a draughtsman,
and help with the planning and design of renovations.
I have very, very high standards in relationships.
I think my parents splitting up when I was a kid definitely has
an impact on me being selective.
Like, I feel like I don't want to have a round two.
Like, I want to get it right the first time.
I look at my grandparents and the sort of marriages
they had.
It's a lot more real. It's a lot more authentic.
It's not this perfect fairy tale thing.
It's more steady.
It's more, you know, these habits formed over decades of
sort of nurturing each other.
That's really what I'm after.
But what I think is hard is it's not just finding that
woman that wants that life.
It's finding that as well as the other, you know, checklist
that I've got, and getting them all to line up.
I have the longest list of non-negotiables.
I wouldn't even entertain a relationship with someone
that I saw as low class...
..swearing...
..trashy...
That's like...
It just disgusts me.
So, if my wife is super opinionated...
..judgemental, obnoxious, overly loud,
I wouldn't even finish the ceremony.
I think men that find me intimidating are pussies,
and I wouldn't want to be with them anyway.
To be quite honest.
Over the years, we've met plenty of singles with
unrelenting standards,
but I think we can all agree that Eliot tops them all.
What we have to remember is Eliot's going in with a very
strict criteria of what he will and won't put up with, and this
is something that could become a problem for him.
And if he doesn't like it, he may simply cut and run.
If there was anyone that ever needed our
assistance, it's Eliot.
He's rigid and uncompromising, and it's hurting his pursuit
of true love.
If you've got this long list of criteria and you're very picky
and you live inside your head, you rule people out.
Married At First Sight is not a box-ticking exercise.
What interests me is that if we match you with someone who ticks
most of the boxes, would you be prepared to commit to it?
Yeah, 100%. Yeah.
I want, like, that whole 1950s nuclear family.
You know, Dad comes in with the briefcase, hangs his hat
on the wall, and he's got the kids run up to him
and wife's in an apron in charge of the household.
I want someone that wants to take on that kind of
traditional feminine role.
A lot of girls aren't into that.
I'm, like, the wifey-est wife material that there is.
What makes me happiest is serving my partner.
So, as long as I find them masculine, I want to serve them
in, like, every possible way.
My name is Lauren.
I'm 37, I'm from Brisbane, and I'm a business owner.
When I go to dinner with someone, I can more than afford to
pay for my own dinner.
I can afford to pay for their dinner too.
But the act of them wanting to pay for the dinner is
a masculine thing.
Like, asking me to pay 50% on a first dinner, like, no,
My poor old laptop.
So, I have a corporate gift business.
I've got a brand new one. I haven't set it up though.
Basically, we sell bespoke branded gifts to corporations
that then gift them to their customers and clients.
Everything's kind of, like, custom made.
And I have three girls that work with me, so yeah, it's
a very successful business.
I am very independent because I have to be.
We had a pretty tumultuous childhood.
I'm close to my sister and my brother, but not so much
the rest of my family.
I haven't spoken to my dad for about six years.
As a protector, he never was that.
He was kind of the opposite.
So, I think that's another reason why I really seek
that in a partner, because it's something that I didn't
have when I was growing up.
Mmm.
I do have, like,
you know, kind of like a hard exterior that
they need to break through.
So, you know, maybe they're too scared or something.
Maybe it's, like, too intimidating, I don't know.
And so a lot of people don't actually get to know me
because I don't let them.
I have very old school traditional values. Like 1950s.
I want to be the one that takes care of everything in the house.
It's just instinctively in me.
Like, it makes me feel really good.
I think I was born in the wrong era.
I don't know if what I'm looking for actually exists,
but if the experts have listened to what I've asked for, I am
so excited to get married to a stranger, because I think
the idea of an arranged marriage is actually quite fabulous.
So, the experts need to, like, just get on with it.
It's almost miraculous that Lauren happened to sign up
for the experiment this year, that Eliot's in the mix
because their values really do align very, very well.
Mmm.
As do their expectations and beliefs about relationships.
Yes.
You know, they both see gender roles in relationships
in a very traditional way.
And it's pretty rare that we come across a man and a woman
who both want that.
Yeah.
No, I think with these two, we're very fortunate.
You know, in Eliot he wants to lead and essentially make
decisions and take charge.
And Lauren, by her own admission, really wants
someone to protect her and to look after things.
So, in some strange way, we've got a very compatible match.
NARRATOR: The first two pairings of this season's experiment
have been unveiled.
Lauren and Eliot,
and Carina and Paul.
And soon they will meet for the very first time when
they marry at first sight.
(EXPECTANT MUSIC BUILDS)
My wedding dress was inspired by my mum's.
Hers was a beautiful vintage lace dress,
and mine is exactly the same.
It's very important to have my two sisters
and my mum here with me.
Don't cry. No, no, I'm not going to cry.
We are very close.
I'm her baby girl.
So, you're the last of five. Yeah, that's right.
So, you're very protected.
So, yeah, she's going to have that wow factor moment.
And I'm excited to have that bonding experience with her
when she sees me in my dress.
(APPROACHING FOOTSTEPS)
(EVERYONE GASPS) Oh, my goodness, Carina!
Oh my gosh, Carina, you look absolutely beautiful.
Oh my gosh, my girl..
You look beautiful.
Oh, my gosh. It looks like yours, Mum.
I know. It does, doesn't it.
Aw.
Today's going to be very emotional.
It's the wedding day of my baby daughter.
And I'm hoping that Carina and he will have a happy
life like I have with my husband and our family.
And yeah, that he's the right man for her.
Just be yourself, Carina. Yeah.
Alright? Mm-hm.
The gorgeous girl that you are.
Be myself.
I think any girl would feel the wedding day is probably one of
the most important chapters of their life.
Wow. OK. This is all happening.
The baby of the family is getting married.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC BUILDS)
WOMAN: Oh, beautiful.
This is gorgeous.
It's just gorgeous.
(EXPECTANT MUSIC)
MAN: G'Day. Oh, hi.
Oh, which one is it?
None of us. (CHUCKLES)
Oh, it's not you. Oh, OK.
Oops.
Is he a good boy?
(LAUGHTER)
Because grandma used to always say, "As long as
"he's a good boy, all good."
Is he as good looking as you two?
Even better.
Oh.
PAUL: Two years ago, I had lost all hope to find love.
But I feel so ready for this.
I just want to be the kind of husband who provides.
And I want her to feel safe.
I'm a very loving person.
I'm very affectionate.
So, those are all the things that I want to give my future wife.
I'm just so ready to commit to someone else again.
To find true love.
Oh, my god.
Oh. Wow.
Hi. Hi. Hello.
Hello. Ooh.
(PAUL CHUCKLES)
Ooh!
As soon as I saw him?
Oh, I thought he was quite hot, actually.
I shouldn't be saying that, I'm the aunty.
WOMAN: Holy moly.
Hello. Hello.
What's your name? I'm Paul.
Paul. Hi, Paul.
Nice to meet you guys.
Nice to meet you too.
She's going to be very happy. Yes.
I think this is going to be a great day.
I can't wait to see her. Really.
WOMAN: You'd better catch your breath because you're
about to lose it again.
(LAUGHTER)
Deep breath.
CARINA: Being the last sibling to get married,
I have felt like the black sheep of the family.
Because love hasn't worked out for me,
and the right person hasn't come into my life.
But today definitely feels like the start of the most
important chapter of my life.
Deep down, all I want is love and to love someone.
And I'm so ready for that.
I'll ask you to turn around.
OK.
Oh. It's time.
Time.
(CLEARS THROAT)
(EXHALES) It's all happening.
(MOMENTOUS MUSIC)
Thank you.
Thank you, Dad.
My dad walking me down the aisle is probably
one of the most important moments in my life.
I have no idea what's about to come,
but I'm just allowing fate to take control.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
(GENTLE MUSIC)
Hi.
BOTH: Oh, my gosh.
Hi. Hello.
How are you? I'm good. How are you?
(CHUCKLING) Good.
Oh. Mwah.
Nice to meet you. Paul.
Hi, Paul.
You look very handsome.
Thank you. You look, you look gorgeous.
Wow.
God, you're gorgeous.
WOMAN: Oh, that's so nice.
(LAUGHTER)
Looks like they've already done their job.
We're done. Let's wrap it up. Let's go.
Let's get this show on the road. (CHUCKLES)
I feel like I'm going to cry.
Thank you, friends and family,
for coming to celebrate Carina and Paul's marriage.
Now, before these two say their vows, I have to ask
if there is anyone here that objects to Carina and Paul
getting married to please speak now.
Definitely not.
Mum? Dad?
No. Absolutely. All good.
Thumbs up. Yeah.
You got the approval.
As a couple, Carina and Paul looked amazing.
They looked perfect.
They looked like they were meant to be from the word go.
Oh, the light that just shone from both of them
was incredible.
Now it's time to share their vows.
OK.
(SPEAKS FRENCH)
Oh, my gosh!
(CONTINUES SPEAKING FRENCH)
So stunning.
One thing I want you to know,
I'm a big old school romantic.
And I'm French.
(CHUCKLING)
The little girl inside me never really thought
this day would play out the way it's unfolding
right in front of my eyes.
I've experienced a few heartbreaks
and disappointments in love.
I've struggled to find a man who I can see myself spending
the rest of my life with.
I've been in love before, but I haven't found the one.
I promise you from this moment forward that
I will keep you safe.
I will be your protector,
your rock to lean on when times get tough.
I promise to build with you a home filled with love.
I promise you, is that I have so much love to give.
I am ready, more than ever to embrace the possibility of
finding unconditional love.
I am ready for the missing puzzle piece
to complete my love story.
(SPEAKS FRENCH)
Beautiful.
I love it. That was beautiful.
That was amazing. Thank you.
(APPLAUSE)
God, I love him already. (LAUGHS)
CARMEL: What I really picked up was the fact that he said,
"I'm going to protect you."
Which is what, as a mother, I would always want.
I would want my daughter to be protected.
And that just stuck out. Like, amazing.
I want to marry him.
It's now time for those two little words of "I do."
Do you, Paul, take Carina as your wife to have and to hold,
to love and honour?
Yes.
"I do."
Yes, I do. Yes.
And, do you, Carina, take Paul as your husband,
to have and to hold,
to love and honour?
I do.
Perfect.
A spark? Oh my gosh, there's more than a spark.
The whole thing has been emotional.
Absolutely beautiful and magical.
And they just both look like a match
made in heaven, actually.
Yeah.
The experts have done an amazing job.
I now have the absolute honour
to declare Carina and Paul as husband and wife.
(CHEERING)
Whoo!
(SHRILL WHISTLE)
They're gonna get along. I can see chemistry already.
Yeah, I can too. I think they're great together.
(OMINOUS MUSIC)
(CARINA)
(HARSH STING)
(CARINA)
Well, they make a gorgeous-looking couple.
Put it that way.
Yeah.
(EDGY MUSIC)
(CARINA)
He was nervous. He's seen her. All good.
Yeah.
I think he fell in love already.
(CARINA)
(REPLAY OF PAUL'S VOWS IN FRENCH)
NARRATOR: After an undeniably romantic ceremony...
PAUL: Yes I do. Yes. (LAUGHTER)
..the first wedding has taken a dramatic turn.
CELEBRANT: ..husband and wife. (CHEERING)
In a MAFS first...
(HARSH MUSIC)
..new bride Carina has just dropped an unexpected and shocking
revelation that she and her groom have already met.
(CARINA)
Yeah.
He ghosted me.
Yeah.
Knowing that we literally have crossed paths, I'm
not going to lie,
like, I'm just so disappointed.
This is so freaking small and I'm like,
only me that would happen to.
Yeah.
(BLEEP)
Sadly, I was actually going through a bit of a rough patch
at that time.
Like, I was going through quite a lot.
Like, it was just a lot of issues with work and family,
and I was just not in the right headspace at that point.
When I saw her, it just felt so unreal.
But I was genuinely happy to see her, you know?
Like, genuinely happy to see her, honestly.
Because I know how much of a good person she is.
It is totally my fault that it didn't lead to a second date.
I had all these things going on and then I just
kept cancelling on her.
Like, every single time.
Like, I remember feeling like shit at the time because she
didn't deserve that, you know?
And then I genuinely wanted to
give her my full self and I could not.
It just feels like the universe is actually like giving us or
giving me that chance again.
I honestly thought I was going to meet someone
who I've never known.
So right now I'm just disappointed about
the whole situation.
Who knows?
Might be all over for Paul and I.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
NARRATOR: As one marriage faces its first hurdle, another is
about to begin.
And as one of Married at First Sight's most uncompromising
grooms, the success of today's ceremony all hinges
on Eliot's first impression of his new bride.
I have the highest expectations.
Like, I fully understand that.
The way I see it, we should have high expectations of someone
that we're going to spend the rest of our life with.
The idea that we should be open to anybody and just try to make
it work, I think is kind of silly when you realise how many
people there are out there.
So, I think it's OK to have standards.
And I think if people were more like that, then you'd see a lot
less divorce and heartbreak.
I have a very vivid vision of what my wife will be like.
She'll be feminine.
She'll be classy, wholesome.
I'll know very early on when I lay my eyes on her if there's
potential, definitely.
It's kind of out of my hands now.
So, I just feel sort of comfortable in the fact that
there's not really much more I can do at this point.
I'm just sort of buckled in for the ride and that's it.
Eliot's high standards are
not the only concern for today's wedding,
as, over at the bride's location,
Lauren is concerned about her fiery relationship with her sister.
There's always argy bargy with my sister and I, but we're good.
We just haven't been speaking the last couple of days.
(CHUCKLING)
My relationship with my sister is, like, very love/hate.
Hopefully she's got her calming energy with her today.
Unlikely.
(WOMAN'S LAUGHTER) I can hear her downstairs.
(LAUGHS)
Are you? You should be.
LAUREN: One of our friends has had a word with her, so she's going
to be on her best behaviour.
Hello!
I'm in here.
But we may need Valium, Champagne, and a taser gun.
Hello, Lauren. Happy wedding day.
Mwah. My beautiful sister.
You look gorgeous. Mwah.
Wow. How are you feeling? Amazing.
I'm feeling excited.
I don't know.
I keep thinking, like, that I'm gonna trip down the aisle
and knock my front teeth out.
That would be good. (CHUCKLES)
I hope he's really good looking.
Do you? I hope he's not.
Do you hope he's fat? I don't mind a dad bod.
(POP) (SQUEALS)
(LAUGHS)
Thank you.
Is she the most high maintenance one you've had?
WOMAN: Not at all. Oh. That's surprising.
Lauren's been bridezilla for the last week.
The only thing that I asked you not to do was wear
giant Chanel earrings.
I was never... I don't even own giant Chanel earrings.
They're... You own about 50 pairs.
They're... Yeah, but they're little.
I was going to wear little Chanel studs.
And Lauren asked me to wear just studs.
(FRAUGHT MUSIC)
Mmm.
I can't believe she's not letting me wear my earrings.
Lauren has been 100% bridezilla.
But it's her wedding, her day, her event.
So what Lauren wants... (LAUGHS)
..Lauren gets.
She's been horrendous.
(DRAMATIC STING) (SILENCE)
(SNIFFS)
Tamara loves attention. That's no secret.
I hope he's got the hottest friends.
I've just been thinking,
surely he would bring his hot friends.
Well, I think he'll just bring his best friends.
Oh.
I feel like I've actually lost weight.
Well, I'm definitely skinnier than you.
Do you have anything in your head other than dust?
(MUTED MUSIC)
Bye. Goodbye.
(WHISPERS) Oh, god.
NARRATOR: As the vibe between the bickering sisters
becomes icier by the second,
the atmosphere in the limousine
has now reached an uncomfortable subzero temperature.
Mmm.
I cannot wait to see his party and guests and parents.
Mmm.
Why are you making it so weird? I'm not.
You are.
Your energy is, like, really not good.
Again with the dust.
You're just so rude, man.
I told you to have Emma in the car.
I can't believe you're going to go home with
a random guy tonight.
Stop talking.
(LIGHT, CHEERY MUSIC)
WOMAN: It's so pretty.
WOMAN: Hi. Hi.
Hi. Oh, he's got good teeth.
Hello. BOTH: Hello.
(EXPECTANT MUSIC)
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
Who are you?
(LAUGHS) I'm the best man.
Are you?
Are you the mum?
Yes.
Hello. Sister.
Their groomsman was very good looking.
I think we would make beautiful babies.
I just saw him. How does he look?
Is he alright? Looks good.
Very relaxed.
He is? Oh.
I've got huge concerns that he may not be into her.
If he smiles, happy days.
If he's not smiling, then it's huge red flags.
I'm nervous as hell.
(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC)
ELIOT: I'm at the point in my life,
I've travelled,
I'm 35,
I've seen the world,
I've built my own life,
and I'm looking to find someone to share that with.
The dream outcome would be to meet my wife,
get married once and only,
have kids, have a family, grow old.
But I'm a realist.
I've got pretty extreme views on what I want in a girl, so I hope
the experts have lived up to it.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
How are you going?
I hope when I turn around, I see my bride...
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
..did I get a few butterflies?
Because I really want it to work.
But at the same time, if there's not, like,
a massive spark initially...
(DRAMATIC MUSIC CONTINUES)
..then I won't even finish the ceremony.
I'll just leave.
(EXPECTANT MUSIC)
ELIOT: I really want it to work.
But at the same time,
if there's not, like, a massive spark initially,
then I won't even finish the ceremony.
I'll just leave.
WOMAN: My god.
Hi, how are you?
Good. I'm Eliot. I'm Lauren.
Yeah, nice to meet you. Nice to meet you.
Hi.
She looked breathtaking.
Definitely relieved.
I really loved her dress and the way she looked.
In fact, that '70s style hairband I thought was like,
yeah, absolutely adorable.
Like a '70s angel.
You look incredible.
I can just see in his face, his eyebrows,
he can't hide his emotions at all, you know?
I could see it from a mile away.
I think you guys nailed it.
(WHISPERS) Where are you from?
(WHISPERS) Brisbane. Where are you from?
I live on the Gold Coast now. OK.
Yeah.
My instant was, he's good looking,
but I want to hear his vows and his values.
'Cause that's where the attraction will come for me.
How are you feeling
Ready to get started? Yeah? That's good.
CELEBRANT: Family and friends,
we're gathered here today to witness the union of
Lauren and Eliot.
Now, if anyone objects to this union,
please speak now or forever hold your peace.
(COUGHS)
(EDGY MUSIC)
Shh.
Alright. On to vows.
(EXHALES) Alright.
(READS) I stand before you today,
ready to embark on a journey with you,
calm but curious where that journey might take us.
I can be stubborn and set in my ways and old fashioned.
Always thinking men should be men and women be women.
My friends will tell you that I was born in the wrong era,
with my old world values.
The kind of partnership I'm hoping for is one of
a traditional nature.
I admire a time when courting was talking on the phone,
flowers on a first date,
opening of car doors.
The era of real chivalry.
I seek the sort of steady love I saw in my
grandparents, forged through a lifetime of handwritten
notes, cups of tea together, sunsets, and date nights.
I hope for a partner with class, pride,
and who is innately masculine,
driven to provide and protect.
You'll gain a husband who is strong willed and principled,
and most importantly, a safe,
anchoring presence for you to be your authentic feminine self.
Please don't try and clean up after dinner
or help with the laundry.
Everything in the home is my domain
and your time to rest after a long day.
Wherever our journey does take us, I promise to be there with
clear eyes and a full heart.
I'm grateful you're joining me on this adventure.
I have an open mind.
And what better way to start possibly the next
chapter of our lives than an adventure like this?
I'll keep you safe if you keep me wild.
Beautiful. Thank you.
I feel like her vows,
they kind of dovetailed really well with mine.
The key thing is the values.
That's pretty exciting.
Compatibility wise, they're pretty on the money.
Thank you. It suits you.
So, that's a really big green flag for me.
(CHUCKLES) Nice.
I was pleasantly surprised with his vows, especially his values.
He looks like a gentleman.
He speaks like a gentleman.
Yeah. So far, I think it's good.
So, Eliot, do you take Lauren to be your wife?
I do.
And Lauren, do you take Eliot to be your husband?
I do.
OK, family and friends,
I now declare Lauren and Eliot husband and wife.
You may now share your first kiss.
(HAPPY MUSIC)
I'm pretty happy with who I got married to.
No runaway groom. (CHUCKLES)
Coming up...
I'm Eliot, by the way. I'm Tamara.
He may be relieved with who he's been matched with,
but how will Eliot handle Lauren's sister, Tamara?
Can you please listen to me? Can you shut up?
She's unhinged.
Don't care.
Tamara's been really full on.
I find it very off-putting.
TAMARA: You guys have been atrocious to me.
This is an absolute abortion.
How beautiful is this, guys?
NARRATOR: Having survived being married at first sight
without running away...
WOMAN: It is really pretty.
..groom Eliot is now about to be acquainted with his
new sister in law, Tamara.
(INDISTINCT CHATTER)
(CHAIR SCRAPES)
(CLEARS THROAT)
Hey, everyone.
I'll get it for you.
Thank you. Oh, chivalry. I love it.
Oh, gentlemen. Thank you.
Hey, everyone.
How are we doing? (CHUCKLES)
Good to see you all again.
I'm Eliot, by the way. Happy to meet you.
I'm Tamara. It's so nice to meet you.
Yeah. You too.
Have youse chatted much since you met?
Not really. No.
Not much.
He seems like a really lovely, genuine person.
And I think our vows align really well.
So, I'm really looking forward to having a conversation with him.
Like, sitting down and, like,
getting to know his personality a bit better.
What did you ask for?
My key thing was, like, I want someone that's like, classy,
intelligent, really feminine.
Like, that was, like, probably my number one thing.
What did you ask for?
So, I said, like, charismatic, like, has to
have a business or, like, you know...
Something going for them? Yeah.
Yeah. And...
Oh, my god! Can I tell you a story?
Everyone was thinking Lauren's definitely not
going to like her husband.
Right.
(WICKED CACKLE)
So point me around, like.
OK, so these are just friends of yours?
So...
Lydia there with the black dress on. Yeah.
Sarah with the green dress on.
And... So, guys...
I'm (BLEEP) freezing.
Are you Jordy? (CHUCKLES UNCOMFORTABLY)
LAUREN: The vibe with my sister is kind of kind of annoying.
She definitely loves attention.
She can be dramatic and problematic.
(GIGGLING)
Then, I'm trying to get to know my husband.
It was distracting.
Do you guys travel a lot? JORDY: I always like...
TAMARA: Jordy, when was your last relationship?
How long were you with her?
What's your star sign?
Do you want children?
What's your background?
Did you get vaccinated?
Today's not about me, is it? (LAUGHS)
Should we swap around? I'll swap seats with you.
I mean, it's just very, like, on brand with my sister.
She does whatever she wants.
Hello.
It's really important to me
if she makes a good impression in front of Eliot.
And I just don't want her to, like, piss anyone off.
(TAMARA CACKLES)
(CACKLES ECHO)
As Lauren does her best to prevent her sister scaring
away her new husband, Eliot,
across town, there's been a been a shock revelation
that newlyweds Carina and Paul have previously
met and been on a date eight months ago.
And Paul has requested a private chat
with his new wife,
to try and salvage their wedding day and explain
why he ghosted her.
Oh.
Yeah.
You know, when a guy is just too nice and he tells you
everything you want to hear?
I feel like I'm getting those vibes.
You know, I don't really know him so I would say my guard is up.
Is he just saying things because of our first encounter
and how it panned out?
I'm not sure.
But these are all the questions I guess I'll get
to know and get answered when we do spend more time together.
After butting heads with her sister all day, Lauren is hoping
a sit-down dinner will bring some peace to her special day.
I can't eat that (BLEEP)
Mmm.
Do you want to share half of mine?
No.
Do you want some spuds?
No.
A lot of my friends will tell me like, you know, try
and keep your sister away from, like, your new partner
for at least three months.
For the first date. Like...
Not ideal.
I actually just want to go.
You want to what?
Are you OK?
(TENSE MUSIC)
Don't.
This is what...
Tammy, are you serious right now?
Hon, right now you're looking very sad.
And you're sitting next to me, and it's not looking very good.
So, even if you pretend love, just stop looking sad
sitting next to next to me.
(EDGY MUSIC BUILDS)
Can you please listen to me?
I'm listening. Can you shut up?
Are you serious right now?
MAN: It's hilarious.
I've just told you.
She's got her resting bitch face on.
Lydia, how would you describe Tammy?
If Tamara doesn't like something,
it's going to be war.
Like, uppercuts.
(TENSE MUSIC)
LAUREN: She's unhinged.
She's driving me absolutely crazy, like...
Yeah. Is she OK?
It's all good?
Whoever knows?
The whole Tamara situation was confusing.
I wasn't really super aware with what was going on,
but it seemed like she was having a good night until she
wasn't having a good night.
TAMARA: You guys have ruined my mood.
I'm the sister of the bride, and I'm not really happy.
I think it is the worst.
This is an absolute abortion.
CARMEL: I honestly think the experts have done a great job with this,
Putting those two together.
WOMAN: We were saying, how have they not met before?
(EMOTIONALLY) Oh my gosh, it's just overwhelming.
Is there anything yet? You can feel something?
I feel like there is. Yes.
I mean... Yeah?
I mean, I'm super, super attracted to Carina.
We could tell.
Yeah, yeah.
I do really regret not being, you know, super
clear at that time.
And I'm the one who's going to have to prove to her that
obviously things are completely different now and that
I can be trusted.
Your eyes said it all
when she walked down the aisle.
MAN: I said the same thing. His eyes speak.
Like, they did, straight away.
Yeah. Yeah.
I'm so ready to put the work in, honestly, to make this work.
She's so worth it, mate. She's so worth it.
My brother is next to her, Charles, and then his wife
is next to him, Jess.
Knowing that she is so close to her family, I just
want to reassure them that I'm here for the right reason.
Just a quick question.
Would you allow me to go?
Only if you OK with it.
To go talk to your family? Go for it.
But also I'd like to let them know obviously
about obviously what happened between you and I.
Are you OK with me telling them that?
Yeah. Of course. Go for it.
I'll be back. (CHUCKLES)
I was in shock when I first found out that I knew him.
I absolutely get the feeling that Paul's
hoping for a second chance.
But he needs to win me over.
He needs to woo me over.
Hello. Hello. Hello.
How are we? Hello. Hello.
I'll squat down between you two.
Yeah. Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you too. Yeah. Welcome.
So, is Carina everything you expected her to be
or wanting her to be, or...?
Even more than that.
So, there's something that I wanted to
speak to you guys about.
Carina and I actually knew each other before that.
Yes, I know this is... You're kidding.
No, no, I'm not kidding.
When did you see each other?
So, Carina and I, we met about a year ago.
You're kidding me.
No, no, no, no. We had an amazing first date.
We went for a hike in the hills of Perth.
Really?
I'm just actually a little bit surprised and shocked.
Paul and Carina meeting a year or so ago.
It's just crazy.
Unbelievable.
But we just went our separate ways.
Right.
I was going through a bit of a rough patch at that point.
OK.
I've always given, you know, my time and my kindness to
the wrong people in the past.
And I've had my heart broken, you know, a few
times because of that.
And, I don't think I would have been able to emotionally, you
know, give her anything and, and I, you know, I could tell
how much of a good person she was, like, straight away.
So I didn't want to drag something along just for the sake of it.
Yeah.
The only mistake I've done was to not communicate that.
You know, and I could have communicated that
a little bit better.
And that's something I've obviously been
feeling guilty about.
TONY: I think he's honourable.
Saying what he said,
I mean, that's not something easy that you would,
you know, need to spill the beans upfront, the sort of thing.
But if he had it on his conscience or on his mind.
CARMEL: I think he just wanted to be open and honest about it.
Mentally, he wasn't ready to start a new relationship.
And Carina was going through a few issues herself.
Obviously it wasn't the right time, and the right time is now.
(INDISTINCT SPEECH) (LAUGHS)
Paul really threw himself in the deep end with my parents.
Mum, what do you think about Paul?
I think he's a really lovely gentleman.
I want it to last like you, 47 years, Mum.
I know. Congratulations.
Thank you.
CARINA: He really made the effort.
It shows that, yeah, he's serious
and he's not afraid of a challenge.
You fit so well in with my family,
and they're obviously the most important people in my life.
You know, a lot of guys get a little bit intimidated.
Yeah, I just feel like everything's just
flowing so easily.
It makes me more attracted to him, most definitely,
because my family are so important to me.
So their blessing is just as important.
So, that was definitely a big tick.
Thank you. Cheers to us.
Carina and Paul. ALL: Cheers.
(GLASSES CLINK)
NARRATOR: Back at Lauren and Eliot's reception...
..Lauren's sister Tamara is on the warpath after not
receiving a pescatarian meal.
Yeah, they're trying to organise something for you.
I don't care.
Can I please actually have a potato?
Yeah, yeah, of course.
You can have the whole bowl of them.
But. Yeah.
Wait till you try one of my pizzas.
You'll die. They're that good.
I've heard about it. Yeah.
That's actually one of my favourite things.
Really? It's, like, authentic Italian.
Look forward to it.
They're being absolute (BLEEP)
I said, "You've totally killed my mood.
"You've taken every..."
Can you please smile while you're talking to me?
My meal comes out, and...
"You haven't listened to my dietary requirements
"as the bride's sister."
I find it very frustrating that she can't just keep it
together for the sake of me.
Like, you know, it's an important day.
It makes me look bad, and I'm extremely embarrassed.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
MAN: Ladies and gentlemen, now the first dance.
WOMAN: So awkward.
What is this? (INDISTINCT SPEECH)
Oh, my god.
What do I do with my hand ? On my chest.
Yeah.
He, like, led the way, which is exactly what I've asked for.
He told me what to do.
"Put my hands here, your hands there."
For him to, like, initiate stuff like that,
like, he's the perfect gentleman.
I think Eliot could definitely bring out a romantic side of me.
TAMARA: Get into him.
(SARCASTICALLY) This is not awkward at all.
Shut up!
Lauren, get into it.
Shut up, Tamara!
Get into him.
Pretend you're in love.
Yeah. Throw her back.
Lauren, kiss him.
Tamara! Shut up!
She's so frigid.
Tamara, stop.
Shall we cut the cake?
No.
If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.
(BLEEP) off.
Whoa.
(CHEERING) WOMAN: Well done.
Don't ruin someone's wedding.
PRODUCER: Is she having a good time?
Who? Tamara.
(CHUCKLES)
Tamara's said some stupid things.
Don't care.
And I've heard a couple of things that I think
are stupid comments.
I feel like it's really bad, and I just think,
gosh, it's like, seriously, what did you do?
Surely that's the end of the formalities.
Lauren's in this experiment for all the right reasons.
And I know how badly she wants this to work.
He seems like a great guy, but I'm scared that
Tamara's actions, it could affect the relationship.
TAMARA: Anyway, I'm done with this.
LAUREN: Can we go? Yeah.
(TENSE MUSIC)
TAMARA: I'm the bride's sister.
Everyone else got food except for me.
My drink wasn't filled up for, like, an hour.
You guys have been atrocious to me.
I'm in business.
We've ordered you some food. OK?
I've got some snacks for you.
No, I don't want a snack.
You guys have been the worst.
I'm very annoyed.
You've ruined my (BLEEP) mood.
I'm not giving you guys anything else.
You can tell them do it better next year.
I've got PTSD over weddings now.
What do you need? Compensation.
Wow, that was traumatising.
Tamara's been really full on.
(EXHALES)
I'm trying to comprehend the behaviour, but I find
it very off putting.
NARRATOR: After realising they've already met and been on a date
eight months ago, Carina and Paul's big day got off
to a rocky start.
But new groom Paul has been trying to turn things around
throughout the day, to win back Carina's trust,
and he's already got the family's tick of approval.
I really like your family.
I really like them, eh.
I don't know, like, there was just just something,
just a good connection between us.
I felt like everyone was very positive about you
and just, everyone was so for you,
which is very, like, refreshing to hear.
I'm not going to lie,
at the very beginning I was kind of bummed.
I was a little bit disappointed because he ghosted me.
But when I think about that time in my life, I had my walls up.
We both weren't in the right headspace
and dealing with our past.
But time has passed.
You know, we've both healed.
We've worked on ourselves.
I definitely have.
So I'm good now.
No hard feelings.
And now I feel like it's the best outcome
for our situation.
I agree.
And look, in a way I felt like, oh, let's just continue
where we stopped.
Yeah.
I feel like we have... Unfinished business.
I feel like we have unfinished business.
And I feel like we have so much to look forward to as well.
Yeah.
And I honestly cannot wait to do life with you.
Honestly, I just cannot wait for that.
Because I feel like there's a real potential.
Can you believe that we actually...
We're actually engaged to each other?
It suits you.
It suits you too. It really suits you.
Crazy.
I have a very handsome groom. (LAUGHTER)
I'm getting...
I'm getting butterflies.
Actually, me too.
Stop it! (LAUGHS)
Is this actually happening?
(JOYFUL MUSIC)
But, like, honestly, like, she is perfect.
I'm so grateful that she is open to give me
a second chance.
I just feel so relieved.
Honestly, I'm over the moon.
Like I'm just, I'm all giggly.
I just feel like a little kid, to be honest.
I can literally already picture life with her.
That's how crazy it is.
I'm smitten.
Smitten on every situation,
the day, the venue, the person.
I definitely judged a book by its cover, but getting to
know who he really is inside,
I have high hopes that this is going to work.
WOMAN: They literally look like they've been in love forever.
CARMEL: I can't believe how gorgeous they look together.
Oh.
I want the real thing.
And today has shown me it can definitely happen.
And this is just the beginning of our story.
(GLASSES TINKLING)
(CHEERING)
(JOYFUL MUSIC)
Tomorrow night...
Eliot?
There was definitely things on my non-negotiables, right?
That don't line up.
Eliot's dramatic change of heart.
I wanted someone that was younger than me.
Probably someone under 30.
There's some superficiality there.
You know, I'm not into, like, luxury luggage.
Is the honeymoon over before it's begun?
There's just some things that I know I'm not
willing to compromise on.
And, still to come on Married At First Sight...
WOMAN: I've been waiting. a long time to be loved.
It's finally my turn.
(CHEERING)
From the highest of romantic highs...
WOMAN: We feel like we've known each other for a lifetime.
WOMAN: Definitely very sexually compatible.
MAN: Holy shit.
MAN: I care about her so much.
..to the lowest of lows.
(GUESTS SHRIEK)
MAN: I'm so sorry.
(MAN CRIES)
(CRYING)
WOMAN: Oh, this is a disaster.
I'm here because I wanted a bloody Cam and Jules kind of love.
WOMAN: Oh, my gosh.
What!
In a world first...
Hello, hello.
WOMAN: If I'm having difficulty breathing right now.
..brand new tasks.
(SQUEALS) WOMAN: No, I don't want to do that.
MAN: That's so weird.
They're not (BLEEP) around, eh?
And fiery group dynamics...
I'm not done with you, little boy.
What do you want?
I can't die on this hill charging this mother (BLEEP) all night.
Someone's got to back me.
..will push some couples...
I was there for you! Hang on a minute.
..to breaking point.
Guys, guys, guys! Oh, my god!
(BLEEP) He's shit!
Oi! Stop!
Ooh! Ooh.
JOHN: We've seen a lot of dinner parties over the years.
This is... Insane.
..outrageous.
NARRATOR: And this year, more than ever before...
Please. I need to jump in here.
I cannot listen to this.
..the experts will not hold back...
The disrespect has been continuous.
Please don't even.
..delivering some hard truths.
JOHN: This is inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour.
MAN: I genuinely hate myself for what I've done.
That is a non-negotiable.
Did you really think I was going to give him the last word?
It's game over.
Bye.
WOMAN: Good riddance.
(DRAMATIC MUSIC)
Well, that wasn't what we expected to happen.
JOHN: No.
