and we're a long ways
from 450 ounces.

You know, we walk
away from here and

we're gonna put gold
in people's pockets,

So, we've got a lot
of work ahead of us.

Overnight, thick frost
blankets Glacier Creek mine.

That little
dusting's nothing.

But it might be a little
warning shot at us. Who knows?

As the frost thaws,
in the Cottonwood cut...

The next bet's I go down...

it's always that mystery.

After two
gold weighs,

Jason battles to stay on the
tail of the rich pay layer.

Well, every time I go deeper
in the Cottonwood,

I like to continue to get pans from
it to make sure that I'm not running into,

like, complete dead zone.

There's no reason to keep going.
We learned that.

I'm gonna run a pan, man.
Gotta be a quick one, though.

Yeah, this is one
of the hardest places to read.

It's all the same color,
it's all grey and black.

And because
it's such a young formation,

I don't think it's had enough time to
settle the gold all the way to bedrock.

It's basically
we're chasing a pay layer

that's flood gold and it
hasn't gone below that level

that it was deposited at.

So that's a really
good pan for here.

But the nice thing is

it's not all super fine.

We've got little, little pieces in there.
Little tiny ones.

I gotta get as much of this
dirt to the plant as I can

before the season ends.

And, uh, sometimes if you try
to temporary something,

And there's a local, it's not
a myth, but we all go by this.

When there's snow
on Sugarloaf,

there'll be snow on the ground
here in six weeks.

the pump has failed.

It's flooded. I don't know
what's wrong.

I need to get to my pumps,
I need to figure this **** out,

and try and start getting this
sucked down.

All right. What's going on?

She just will not pump.

Any bit of pay I had is going
under water again.

We'll pull the suction off and see.
It's all in all to do right now.

I hear something in here.

- Whatcha got?
- All right, hold that up.

- Something in there?
- Yeah.

Oh, boy...

- Holy ****, Nate.

It's gotta be something between the pump and the engine.
It has to be.

The only thing I know to do
now is I have to pull it out, Jason.

Stupid rock.

The key component
of the water pump

is an impeller to draw water
into the machine.

But overnight, the pump has
sucked in a large rock

which has become jammed
in the system.

Nate hopes that the coupler,

the engine's rubber fitting

has done its job and sheared,

allowing the motor
to keep spinning,

saving the pump engine
from catastrophic damage.

Damn rock. Always.

Get some more of this
sheet metal off,

so we can kinda get down
to the heart of the operation.

Well, I'll be damned.
Look 'er there.

So, you got these splits
and this coupler right here.

The coupler
is completely sheared

after saving the motor
from the rock jam.

You know, it's got
a part number on it.

And hopefully, they will have
the part number exactly.

And we'll be good to go. But...

You just never know
these days.

And I can't tell you,
KC, how frustrated I am

to see this cut start
going under water.

With the pump
out of action,

and Jason unable to access
the cut,

the crew runs dangerously low
on pay.

I'm actually taking a really thin
layer across the entire width of the cut.

And just trying to get enough pay,
you know, to last through the day.

Maybe two feet is all
he's got there.

And I don't know
if it'll last the day.

So, we may be fighting...

a losing battle.

Coming in on

Think that little pump's

All season long,
we've been fighting the water,

fighting the weather,

and now we're fighting
getting parts.

So, yeah.
It's very, very frustrating.

I should be down there

in the good gold, but

all I can do, I gotta keep us
in pay, and basically get what we can.

Before winter shuts us out.

After dozing
for four hours,

Dave has stripped almost 500
square yards of organics.

call it emergency pay,

but it's gonna get us by
until Nate can get us that pump.

And it's got rubber on it
that gives it a flex.

While as you can see on
this one here, it's busted out.

And this one here
is basically solid.

So, we'll put that in place.

Oh, that was kinda good.

And start putting it together.

This is the pump,
this is the engine.

Basically, this coupler,
attach them together.

This will last a long time, long
as we don't come into another jam.

If we're gonna have a plan
to hit our gold,

we gotta get this pump up
and going as fast as possible.

Give her a couple little
love taps, get her just right.

I think everybody is,
you know,

tired, wore out.
It's not good for us right now. It's really not.
