There is a thing that's pretty tall.

I see it walking through the sun.

It looks like a large shadow of a big black animal.

You can just, like, feel them watching you.

Anybody who sees it gets the attachment.

And all died from self -inflicted gunshot wounds.

It is a full -on attack and torture situation.

It's got to go.

What exactly is this thing?

It's evil.

Oh, the dark is getting darker.

My name is Amy Allen.

I see dead people. There is a skinwalker here.

I speak to dead people.

And they speak to me.

He wants to collect the women.

But there's only one way to know if my findings are real.

They're blocking the life out of these people.

I rely on my partner.

I'm a retired New York City homicide detective.

This is the kind of case that would have haunted me. And I know every person,

every house has secrets.

It's my job to reveal them. But Steve and I never speak. We never communicate

during an investigation.

Until the very end.

Is that what I think it is?

Yes. When we uncover if it's safe for you to stay. I told you he was trying to

kill me.

So I'm out here in Southern California. It's about an hour north of Sacramento.

I got a call from a newlywed named Marissa, and she sounded terrified.

Marissa said whatever's in the house is pissed off, and she thinks the whole

family's in danger, especially her daughter who has cerebral palsy.

I'm really hoping we can help her out.

Feeling here is fear.

There is a thing that's pretty tall.

It's wearing full robes.

And I know that it's evil.

I don't know what kind of evil it is. I've only encountered something like

twice before.

And they come after you.

We spoke on the phone, Marissa. You didn't sound too happy about things.

What's it like living here?

It's been stressful, a lot of anxiety.

We're scared.

My daughter's frightened and it's starting to really affect everything

Now, you had told me your daughter has cerebral palsy, right? Yes, my daughter

has CP.

She's very high functioning.

In past investigations, Amy's pointed out that paranormal tends to pick on the

weak. Do you think that's going on here?

I absolutely think so, yeah.

So you think your daughter's being targeted?

Yeah, I'm really worried for her.

It really breaks my heart that my daughter's scared and being attacked.

I just want her to feel safe and feel okay in her own house, in her own space,

in her own room.

Who all lives in the house?

There's my daughter, Leah, and my husband, Jeremy.

And how old is Leah?

Life's 12.

So how long have you and your daughter lived here?

We've lived here for two years after I was married.

All right, Marissa, do me a favor and give me a list of what you guys are

through here.

Well, there's been foot theft, knocking.

I've had some health issues.

We've seen shadow figures.

And as of lately, things have been getting physical.

What do you think it is?

I feel like there's a man or a shadow man here.

but we're always being stopped and watched.

Have you talked to your new husband about, like, maybe just getting the hell

of here and trying someplace else?

We have talked about it, but this is our home. Our heart is in this home. We've

put so much love in all of our animals and our family. Like, we really don't

want to just give it up. We want to take our home back and be happy and feel

safe here.

I don't feel well.

My stomach's going nuts.

Very sick.

So there's a female in this room who's made a connection with the tall thing

from outside.

This female who's alive, there's some kind of weird connection between this

thing and her.

She's seeing him the same way I am, tall and wearing long

robes, and it's got a hood.

Man, they've got quite a big cord.

What do you mean, the cord?

They're feeding each other.

It's different than just an attachment.

It's two ways, not just one way.

Bad.

So when you were saying all your animals, this is what you were talking

Yeah. I got to tell you, I love this.

I mean, you know, I'm an animal lover. All right, so what's going on out here?

I've been seeing a white mist floating around the yard.

Describe what the mist looks like. You said it's white.

It looks like a small ball of white smoke, almost.

You can just see it float around the back of the house, just appears and then

disappears. Is there anything out here that would emanate something like that?

No, not at all. Any machinery or anything coming from next door or

that? No, not that I'm aware of.

Okay, so anything else?

I see something just pacing back and forth along the fence line at night.

It looks like a large animal, a large shadow of a big black animal.

So how big are we talking?

Like as high as the fence? I would say three times the size of my German

Shepherd. Have you ever had the courage to come out and look at it? I have once.

What happened? I was scared. I just saw it and I ran back to the house.

Okay. So what kind of feeling do you get from it? A feeling of impending doom,

like putter just...

Scared. Panic.

This thing really doesn't want me to go back here.

I see it walking through the fence.

So they saw it, they saw it, they saw it, and then how does it come in?

I see it wandering, wandering.

And is that thing just here?

Now it is, yes.

Anybody who sees it gets the attachment.

So this is an interesting room. What's with the setup here?

I'm trying to start up a home business, a nail salon here.

So what's going on?

My bedroom is right across the hall, and I've been experiencing sleep paralysis.

Okay, describe to me what happens.

Every night, I have these crazy, vivid nightmares where I feel like I'm getting

chased or hunted or hiding from something. Something's trying to get me.

Okay. And then I wake up, and I'm pinned down to the bed. I can't breathe. I

can't move.

Does it feel like somebody's holding you down, or is it just that you have no

control over your body at all?

It feels like a heavy weight is keeping me down.

It's super scary. It scares me to death. It takes my breath away.

What else?

We've waken up with scratches down my arm, down my leg, just out of nowhere.

No animals in the room.

What do scratches look like? Like three little lines.

Do you wake up to a burning feeling?

Oh yeah, it burns and it hurts and sometimes it bleeds too.

Do you think you're doing it to yourself?

Not at all. I always round my edges and this is a different kind of scratch.

Seems like you moved into hell.

Yeah, I've had a couple of crying meltdowns because it's just been too

but it's for my daughter. I have to be strong.

You know, Marissa, I've been doing this nearly 10 years with Amy, and I got to

tell you, the stuff you got going on here is pretty intense.

Yeah, it's really bad. I feel like whatever's in this house is out to get

think it's trying to hurt myself and my daughter.

So I'm glad we're here, and hopefully we'll get you some answers.

Yeah, we just want to have our home back.

Yeah.

It comes out showing a horrible thing.

So it'll do physical things.

And the attacks are pretty bad.

Like being shaken and being punched and being slapped and being strangled.

He is physically assaulting this woman.

Is she in danger because of it? This thing is claiming to have caused people

kill themselves.

So I would say yes.

It also is attacking her?

Was this thing ever alive?

No. So what exactly is this thing?

It's evil.

So, Jeremy, it's good to finally talk with you.

I spoke to your wife earlier. She seems to think that what I see is pretty

dangerous. I mean, you agree with that?

Honestly, I don't feel the danger part of it, at least my part.

It affects her a lot more than it does me.

I'm a skeptical guy, but there's a couple things that have happened in this

house that I just can't explain.

With that being said, what experiences have you had?

So, my very first experience was in the backyard.

I literally saw a black orb about, probably about the size of a bowling

Absolutely not.

All right, so you've seen this orb. What else?

One night I was laying in bed and started hearing knocking, and it was

were just, like, doing a beat dance on our wall in the kitchen.

So I know you've got a bunch of animals around the house, but I can't see. So

all of our dogs sleep in our room with us, and all of our dogs were completely

out. Okay, I mean, this is a pretty rural area. Any chance of rodents being

there? Absolutely not.

Okay. My house is buttoned up underneath like Fort Knox.

Anything else?

I actually heard footsteps going up and down my hallway.

I was thinking maybe it was Leah.

So I opened the door, looked, her bedroom door was completely closed and

lights were off. I'm like, what the heck, you know?

No evidence of somebody broke in?

Absolutely no evidence of anything.

If Amy said it's too dangerous to stay here, I mean, what would you, how would

you feel about her saying that?

This thing could burn to the ground for all I care, as long as I have my family.

Oh, there's these little things.

Two or three little black things, humanoid -ish.

They're attached to the tall evil thing.

I would think that the living might hear and or see them running around.

Quick flashes.

I think they might be disruptive to some extent as far as breaking things or

making noises, things like that.

They're terrifying.

Hi. I'm Steve.

Hi, nice to meet you. How are you?

Good. Can we talk for a couple minutes?

Sure. Okay.

So, Leah, I was talking to Mama earlier today, and she was saying that

whatever's here, as far as paranormal stuff, might be picking on you. Yeah.

think so?

Yeah. Do you think it's because of your physical ailment that you have?

Maybe. So you've had experiences here, right?

Yes. Can you tell me about some of them? Yeah.

Whenever we're watching TV, I can always see a head pop out above the lamp.

And there's no facial features. You just see like a pale skin face.

And when you look over, there's nothing there.

Okay. So is anything else going on?

There's always this shadow man. I feel like there's a big, tall guy in the

bushes that's like watching me.

Do you see it? No. You just feel it? I feel it, but I can tell it's a male. I

just don't like it here.

It kind of scares me sometimes.

Would you like to move if you could? I would like to stay here if you guys

fix it.

Okay.

I'm just hearing like a weird conversation, like, oh, so what are you

do now?

Why don't you just pick me up and throw me?

Who's saying that?

I assume that this would be a child.

There's fight in this person. But I don't think it's such a great idea if

thing was under the bed and it was lifting the bed up.

And then dropping it and then shaking it.

Any idea why it's doing this? Because the person in here is challenging it.

Would you say they're in danger because of that?

Yes.

Because this thing is more or less being sent around to

cause pain and harm.

You know you're in a small town when you get woken up by roosters, the little

jerks. I'm on my way to meet a local historian. He says the town of Sutter is

named after a real guy.

And that guy was a scumbag who's got a story I'm definitely going to want to

know about.

So, Dave, the guy that this town is named after, what do we know about him?

His name is John Sutter. He's a Swiss citizen.

Came to...

California when it was Mexican territory in 1839.

So what is he doing to get you?

So in order to own any property here, you have to become a Mexican citizen.

So he finally becomes Mexican citizen.

Okay. So in 1841, he's granted 48 ,000 acres as a land grant.

Wow, that's a lot of land.

That's most of the Sacramento Valley. And this includes my client's property.

Right. All right, so David, 48 ,000 acres of land. What the hell does he do

it? He wanted to start an agricultural empire.

Okay. He built a fort in Sacramento called Sutter's Fort.

Big, thick walls, cannons on top.

All right, so he's got all this property. He's got a fort. Who does he

work the land?

He went power crazy.

He started invading neighboring native villages, take them over to his fort,

enslaved them. So even for that time period, that's pretty cold -blooded.

It even gets worse.

He enslaved the men.

He'd sell the women into prostitution, and he'd keep the young girls for

himself. How old were these girls?

Nine, ten.

This guy's a sick bastard.

He was a sick bastard.

All right, so how's it wind up going for this pedophile slave owner?

Not very good.

In 1847, California became part of America.

All the Mexican land grants were null and void.

He lost everything.

All right, so this is real karma, right? This guy loses everything. Now, does he

die broken alone? What happened?

Yeah, he moved back to the East Coast. He died in 1880 at the age of 77.

Totally broke, bitter, and angry.

Good.

I just felt something really strange.

I was walking down the path, and all of a sudden I was a male.

And I was carrying this huge wood.

And it was extremely heavy.

And it was painful.

And I didn't have any shoes or really any clothing.

I had been captured. I was being forced to do this labor.

The people who are making us do this, they do it until we die, until we drop.

Like I'm seeing my bones being ground into the earth.

Because I'm being worked to death, there was this want for revenge,

and this revenge made a black little circle. And then at some point, someone

came and basically summoned whatever this thing is.

The thing from inside the house?

Yeah. So that's not good.

Without fail, the first thing I do when I start an investigation is call the

local cops.

A lieutenant just got back to me. He did some digging and something caught his

eye. Turns out about 100 years ago, there was a strange rash of suicides

around Marissa's house.

Well, Sam, I appreciate you helping me out with this case.

All right, so tell me about these suicides.

Well, I found five in a 35 -year period.

between 1891 and 1926.

All right, that doesn't seem like a lot. I mean, I handled five in one month

when I was working on the job. I mean, is that unusual?

Yeah, absolutely.

Sutter is a pretty small community, about three square miles, with about 3

residents. Back then, it was less than half of that.

So what's the story with these suicides?

Well, four were pretty similar.

All were men, all were prominent in the community.

and all died from self -inflicted gunshot wounds.

Any ages on these guys?

Yeah, one was 62, and the other three were in their 40s. Any reason why they

would do this?

I mean, that's the interesting thing about this. None of them really had a

reason to commit suicide.

For example, here's a case here from Henry Onstott in 1924 who committed

as well. His neighbors and friends all said that they had no reason why he

have killed himself.

He was in good spirits on the day that he committed suicide.

All right, so you said they were pretty similar. What about the fifth one?

Yeah, so in 1924, there was a real tragic suicide that occurred.

So on March 7th of that year, Theodore Hagman, who was a 52 -year -old rancher

and well -known in the community, he hung himself in his barn on his ranch.

Did they see it coming?

In this case, they actually did see it coming. His wife had died two years

to that.

Actually, the coroner's report...

stated that he took his own life in a fit of temporary insanity.

All right, the guy couldn't live without his wife, and love will make you do

crazy things, right?

A lot of dead people are trapped here by this tall, evil thing.

And I see a male hanging.

There's two elderly dead people here, and they are basically being held

by this thing.

They're kind of locked up somewhere in darkness.

They're scared.

They're huddled down.

It's not doing good things to the people here.

I'm going to say he caused at least one suicide of a male here.

Bad.

So far, I've got a family living in fear on a property that was once owned by a

maniac who enslaved and tortured his neighbors.

But I want to see if there's anything else.

Searching for old records, I come across a gardener named Peter Schmidt.

Now, turns out Peter murdered his boss's wife right down the road from my

client's property.

So I'm heading over to meet my old friend, author Claire Boone.

She knows all about this case. Says the gardener who snapped had a longstanding

grudge against the family.

Well, Claire, it's good to see you again.

So what's the story with this gardener? What do we know about him?

Well, his name is Peter Schmidt.

He came over here from Germany in 1879. All right, so that's got to be a little

tough. He's an immigrant starting out fresh.

How did it work out for him?

It was really hard.

He actually also spoke very little English, so it was hard to communicate.

And according to some of the newspapers at the time, a lot of local folks

considered him an unintelligent man, actually.

How does he make it out here, though?

Well, he ends up meeting a man in San Francisco named Peter Gardemeyer, who is

wealthy land prospector.

Gardemeyer convinces him to buy some property out in Sutter County.

Schmidt agrees to invest, and he gives him $850 for a house

and a piece of land, and that is his entire life savings.

So now he's got the American dream.

Not exactly.

When he gets here, he discovers... that Gardemeyer is a con man, and he's been

completely swindled. There is no house, and now Schmidt has no money.

All right, so now this rat bastard swindles this poor guy who's not smart

begin with. Now he took his whole entire life saved. Yep. So what happened?

Gardemeyer says, no, no, I'll make it right, and I want to hire you to do

handyman and gardening jobs at my own house.

All right, so let me get this straight. This guy rips him off, robs from him,

basically, and then offers him a job?

So he could work for him? I mean, did he come kiss his ass? No, actually, he

took him up on the offer for a measly $35 a month.

All right, so this guy was a little slow.

It's been my experience that guys like this, you know, this can't be the only

guy he swindled.

Oh, definitely not.

He was conning people left and right, and in 1891, the law

actually finally caught up with him, and Gardemeyer...

Left town in the dead of night.

And his wife stayed behind.

Does Schmidt stick around or does he take off after the guy leaves?

Nope, Schmidt keeps doing what he's doing. He continues to live on the

and do his handyman work.

I know this guy snaps and eventually kills her. What the hell happened?

On November 17th of 1893, he goes up to the house around dinner time and he

demands that Mary Gardemeyer take some dinner.

And she says, nope.

And he pulls a pistol out of his pocket in a half -maddened state and

shot at her three times. She actually manages to pull herself up and chase him

out of the house, but is fatally wounded because she dies several hours later.

Does Schmidt take off? He leaves, but when police track him down to the

neighbor's house, they find him calmly sipping tea, and he immediately

confesses. And he was convicted of first -degree murder.

He ended up at San Quentin, actually, and I have his prison inmate photo.

Well, it's kind of sad when you think about it because here's a guy. He's an

immigrant. His wife passes in his own country. He comes over here to try to

start a new life.

Comes across this in the middle of San Francisco and gets swindled out of his

life savings. He ran into the wrong man.

There was a male.

who was kneeling behind the couch.

He was also sweating profusely.

He was just, like, laughing and babbling.

He is now insane.

So I think that there's a few people, dead people up there.

I think they're hiding.

So that dead guy I was talking about earlier, I'm pretty sure it's him. The

who was kneeling or whatever.

All he's kind of indicating, these people there, not to be near

that thing.

He's like, get out. Just get out.

I saw a lot of disturbing things on my walk, but two stood out.

First, the insane man.

He was hiding behind a couch.

He had kind of a square -shaped head.

He had some really dark circles under his eyes.

Next, I described the thing attaching itself to a living woman in the house.

This thing is really big.

It's wearing like a robe with a hood.

Okay.

Maybe let's make her look a little bit more feminine, maybe longer hair.

Amy, is this what you saw?

Yes, that's what.

Now that Amy and I have completed our investigations, we're ready to reveal

findings to each other and our clients for the first time.

So guys, I want you to meet Amy.

She'll be doing the reveal from another room so she can focus on your case and

the dead without any distractions.

Amy, meet Marissa and Jeremy.

They're newlywed.

A couple of years ago, Marissa moved in here with her 12 -year -old daughter,

Leah.

And this is her right in the middle.

But now all hell's broken loose.

And Marissa doesn't think it's safe for the family. These guys are tough.

They want to fight back, but they don't know how. So they're hoping you can show

them the way. So unless Amy may have some questions, then she'll tell us

her walk.

When I was outside, I was experiencing a male.

So basically, I'm inside of his body.

I was carrying this huge, long piece of wood, and there were four men

behind me who were also carrying this huge piece of wood.

I knew that I was being forced to build something until we were literally

dead. Now, you mentioned a forced -type labor, right?

Yes. Which definitely makes me think of the first owner of the property here.

Now, his name was John Sutter, and he's the guy who the whole town was named

after. Got his photo here.

In 1839, he left his family in Switzerland and came to California. But

then, it was a Mexican territory.

He wanted land.

So in order to do that, he had to become a Mexican citizen.

So now he's given 48 ,000 acres, which includes the land that your house sits

on. So now you saw people being forced into labor carrying wood. Now, Sutter

wanted to build a fort around his property.

So he attacked the local villagers, grabbed the men, and held them as

and made them build basically this fort here.

This guy was a piece of work.

Not only did he kidnap the men, but he took the local women and sold them into

prostitution. Wow.

And then he took young girls around the ages of 9 and 10, and he kept them

locked away for himself.

It's hard to believe that the town is named after this guy when I found out

about what he was up to. But karma's a bitch. When California became part of

United States in 1847, his land was taken away and he lost everything.

Eventually, he died broken, alone at the age of 77.

Now, Amy, do you think the men you saw were Sutter's slaves?

Yes.

And this emotion that these men had created a doorway for

evil.

And from that doorway emerged this terrible thing. And that's what I'm

really focus on tonight because that's your main issue.

First, I'm going to focus on how it affects the dead in your home.

The dead are terrified of this thing and they can't move on

because of this thing.

And they're essentially in hiding because of this thing.

When I went into the garage and I looked up, there was a little hole

up in there, up in the garage.

And that's where it's keeping those dead people.

Now, you had a reaction when Amy was talking about the hole in the garage,

ceiling there. What was that about?

Because Marissa has...

She has spoke about the hole in the garage and she says that it's evil.

I'm scared. As soon as I open the door, I can just, like, feel the energy, like,

hit me.

The living, I believe, might occasionally perceive the dead as a

white mist and a, like, slightly taller black mist.

I see a white mist and my daughter also seeing that white mist.

So in the backyard, I have actually seen a black, like a sphere or a ball,

and it appeared from the middle of the yard. And when it got to the corner of

the house, it just shot off like a rocket.

Interesting. All right.

One of the trapped people in the garage is an insane male, and he was laughing

and babbling incoherently.

He has lost his mind.

In the garage, he was the one who was peering out down from the hole, and

he just said, get out, just get out.

Well, I may be jumping the gun on the crazy guy, but one story came to mind.

It's about a guy named Peter Schmidt.

He was born in Germany and came here in 1879.

He spoke very little English, and he was described as a bit slow.

But his life changed when he met this guy, a rich con man named Peter

Got his photo.

Gautamaya lived about 3 ,500 feet from here.

Turns out Schmidt gave him his entire life savings, $850, which was a lot of

money back then, to buy a house in Sutter.

Turns out he'd been had by this guy.

There was no house. There was no property. He just took his money.

So Gautamaya told him, listen, I'm not giving you your money back, but I'll

it up to you.

I'll hire you on as my gardener at my mansion.

Oh, my God.

This arrangement goes on for about 10 years until the law catches up to

Gardemeyer. He had been scamming people for years.

So now in 1891, he skips town right in the middle of the night.

So now Schmidt slept at the mansion working for Gardemeyer's wife.

On November 17th, 1893, Schmidt snapped.

He walked into the dining room and demanded that Mrs. Gardemeyer make him

dinner. And she said no.

You know.

So he took out a pistol, shot her in the stomach, and killed her.

When police caught up with him, he was at a neighbor's house sipping tea.

And he confessed everything.

Schmidt ended up doing life at San Quentin, believe it or not. And

what amazes me is that I was able to get an inmate photo of him.

This is the guy Schmidt.

Oh. It's crazy.

Amy, any chance that guy could be the one you saw?

I did have a sketch done of...

What I can see of this man.

Hmm. You guys tell me.

Oh, yeah, the nose.

Yeah, the nose, right? Mm -hmm.

Looks extremely angry.

Yeah. Mm -hmm.

I've done a lot of sketches in my career.

That's pretty close for me.

It's extremely weird.

So this thing's scaring the dead, but is he doing anything to the living in this

house? Yes.

When I was in the first bedroom on the left... That's Leia's room. I just want

to make sure we know that.

I felt like the living person in there was challenging this thing.

Trying really hard to stand up to it.

I don't think that's a great idea because it's making this thing angry.

The thing was under the bed and it was lifting the bed up and then dropping it

and then shaking it.

So Amy, one thing you should know about Leah is that she's fighting cerebral

palsy.

Because of that, Marissa thinks whatever's... here might be picking on

that's why I was always worried about her in the house, because I felt like,

know, she's special, that they would pick on her more, almost.

What you're talking about, does it sound like something she would do?

Yeah. As far as fighting back and trying to get... Mm -hmm.

She's very brave for being such a little kid.

Now, she didn't mention the bed shaking.

Did she say anything like that to you guys?

No, that's news to me.

I hope that she truly hasn't had...

the physical interactions with this thing that it showed me, that's a good

thing.

Now, Leah did tell me about some experiences that might have to do with

thing. Marissa, tell her about the head that popped out at her.

Oh, my goodness.

When we're in the living room, there's a lamp there, and Leah and I see this

head. It's just watching, and it's just creepy. It breaks us out.

So we're going to get into how...

This thing came into your home.

This thing is a wanderer. So it came from

that doorway that was created by the slave.

Was this thing ever human?

No.

The way that they come to a person or an individual is when they're seen.

So what I saw initially was this thing was in the back.

And it was along the fence line.

If you are seeing this, it will then be able to come in and

affect you.

I'm along the back fence in the backyard.

I see this dark, huge, shadowy, like, thing pacing back and

forth and back and forth.

So does that mean this thing's attached to Marissa?

Yeah, so here's the deal.

When I went into the master bedroom, I immediately saw that the female there

made a very, very strong connection with this thing.

Oh, that's not good.

So I did have a sketch done of what I saw.

This is not something you're going to want to see, but...

how I feel at night. I feel like every night I don't sleep.

It just, it absolutely infuriates me.

And if that was my wife, I'd be pissed, too.

What it was flashing to me was it getting violent with you physically.

I saw flashes of it slapping, punching, shaking, and strangling.

I would wake up and have scratches down my arms and my legs.

Sometimes they would bleed.

I have experienced the sleep paralysis where I feel a heavy weight just

me down.

I can't breathe. I can't move. I feel like I'm getting smothered almost.

And that happens all the time.

I mean, what would have happened if these guys didn't call us in?

It would have been bad, really bad.

Obviously, you know, it is a full -on attack and torture situation.

So I think there's a possibility that it would have gone after your daughter.

It's got to go.

Look, Mercy, you're a good mama bear.

And you call this in because you're worried about your daughter. But it

out you're the one who needs the protection.

Now the big question, can you fight this thing? And if so, what's it going to

take?
