impossible?

Maybe you try to rationalize it and
justify it and come up with some sort of

reasonable explanation.

Well, what you're about to see right now
will defy all explanation.

Try not to let it drive you crazy. Hey,
hey, hey, hey, hey. The way that Chipper

Hall drives me crazy all the time.
Hello. How's it going? Good. Nice to

here. Well, I have something impossible
to show you. You have a knife. I should

not be doing this. No. Okay. Let me show
you. We've got a deck of playing cards.

Okay. Knight, natural born enemies.

Watch this. Yes, yes, yes. Watch.

Right through the deck. All the way
through. Is that not amazing?

That's amazing.

Are there cards in there?

We don't need to talk about that.

Well, okay.

Yeah, you know what? Hold your hands
out.

Rationalize it so people... No, no, you
were right. You were right. There is no

deck of cards. Just a solid metal block.

Okay.

That's... Thank you. Bye.

That's impossible.

not going to have the volunteers do
that. But if you could, just take one

fishy. I'm just uncapping the cannons.

All right. I have...

some paint sample booklets from the
hardware store. We have spring, summer,

fall, and winter. What I would like you
to do is take a book, any book. Leave it

clipped for now.

Because as you guessed it, you may trade
booklets as many or as few times as

you'd like.

Let's review what happened.

We brought three people on stage where
they stood wherever they wanted. Then

they traded places. Then they traded
cannons. Then they traded books. Books

could have ended up anywhere.

Cannons could have ended up anywhere.

But this is where we are left.

Now, I failed to mention earlier, I've
always been a very lucky person.

but only when it comes to the arbitrary
interception of pneumatic weaponry and

interior design tools.

Very weird way to be lucky. Let's see
how we did tonight.

I just decided to lean into that.

I'd like to show you all a phony magic
illusion.

It involves time travel.

Do you believe in time travel?

Before we take this phone back in time,
I need to document the present moment.

And the best way I know how to do that
is with a selfie.

Everyone smile.

And time travel happens in 3, 2, and 1.

Now the phone did not just disappear.
No, it just traveled back in time to the

moment before I had even removed it from
the case.

Now, do you believe in time travel?

When you get right down to it, most
magic can be reduced to simple

equations.

That's not really true. I just made that
up.

Or did I?

See for yourself when you behold the

All right, and I'm joined by Maurice.
Maurice, you've got a deck of cards.

got a deck of cards. Take those cards
and shuffle them up.

And while you're shuffling, I want to
explain to everybody at home just how

orders there are in a deck of cards. For
the mathematically inclined, this is 52

factorial.

To know the number of orders in a
shuffled deck of cards, you have to

52 times 51 times 50 times 49 all the
way down to 1.

The answer is the number 8 with 68
digits after it. That means, Maurice,

there are more orders to a deck of cards
than there are grains of sand on the

planet.

Not that impressed by that fact, but we
will continue nonetheless. Are you

shuffled up?

Okay, give your cards a couple of cuts.
It's important that you know that

they're in an order. I couldn't know one
of these eight with 68 zeros after it.

Oh, wow.

This is great. This is modern art. I
love it. And now, go ahead and show me.

I'll show you that my cards are shuffled
up. Show me that your cards are

shuffled up.

Yeah, show them that they're shuffled
up.

And now hold them between your hands.

I'm going to show you in less than 30
seconds how this trick worked.

I'm not going to tell you how it works.
I'm going to show you in the numbers.

In a moment, Maurice, we are going to
cut our respective decks and each cut to

card, and I hope it's the same card.
Now, the chances of that happening are 1

2, that it would be the same color card.
1 in 4, that we project a certain color

and it would be the same. 16 over 169,
that it's the same 4 of a kind, like 4

tens or 4 queens.

The chances of you cutting any card in
your deck are 1 in 52. Me, 1 in 52. We

multiply them together to get the chance
that they're the same 2 ,704 or .0003%.

That's the chances of this work.

Now, I want you to understand something.
All of these numbers, every one of

these numbers...

combine together, give us that
impossibility that we're going for. So

with 52 factorial and come down here to
that number, 8 with 68 digits after it,

same on this side.

But what we're going to try and do now
is put it to the test, and we do that

like this. Maurice, you can go first. I
want you to cut anywhere, shallow, deep,

whatever you want, and put them on the
table, anywhere you want. And then place

the rest of them, just hold them above
like that. That's good.

And now I will do the same.

Now to see this .0003 of a percent
chance that it works, I got

the 8 of hearts. What card did you get?

But that's not impossible.

That's just really, really rare.

The part that's impossible is that over
here, in the numbers the whole time,

this is the part that's impossible.

trick, you automatically lose the

behind me is the ending of the trick,

okay? Remember that I said that? Keep
your eye on the box. Now, also in order

for this to work, I needed a random
person from the audience.

So we've got Noah here. Noah, how are
you, buddy?

I'm awesome.

So Noah, here's the plan. Got a little
dice here, six different sides to it.

going to roll it a few times. I want you
to see it lands on a different number

each time I roll it. You see that?

Here's what's going to happen. You're
going to take the cup.

Go ahead, grab the cup. We're going to
place the dice into the cup. Put your

other hand on top.

Shake it up a little bit. Whenever you
feel comfortable, turn the cup over on

the table and leave the cup on top of
the dice. Go ahead.

Sweet.

Nicely done, man.

So here's the plan, you guys. We need a
few other people as well.

So here's what's going to happen. Maybe,
Noah, you pick the first person. Go

ahead and point to one person in the
audience.

That man right there.

This guy right here. How's it going, my
friend? Do me a favor. Name out loud

your favorite food.

what sucks, though? I have to write

Your sweaters. You were going to say
underwear. I could see it in your face.

Sweaters. So we're going to put sweater
right here.

Okay. Number five.

Noah, you picked the fifth person?

Her in the middle there.

In the middle. Okay. Do me a favor. Name
an object that could fit in your hands.

Shovel.

Shovel. That's great.

Shovel is good. All right. We'll write
shovel.

Okay. I don't know what that means.

It's on your mind, but that's okay.
Okay.

Number six.

Noah, you can pick the last person, too.
It's no problem.

Awesome. So here's what's going to
happen. Name, for the last person, name

a pet that somebody had in their home.

Dog. Dog, yeah, that's good. Dog is
pretty common. Okay, so guys, here's the

plan. At this point, I'm going to recap
everything. Everything was completely at

random. From the beginning, Noah, you
were selected totally at random, yeah?

Yes, sir. Then we picked all these
people completely at random as well.

Everything completely random.

The craziest thing, though, in the very
beginning was we rolled that dice. You

saw the dice roll the different numbers
each time.

You rolled it underneath the cup. We
haven't even looked at the number yet,

right guys?

For the first time, Noah, pick up the
cup. Let us know what number it is. Say

nice and loud.

Yeah, it's a two.

Two, which is, what is it on there,
Noah? Snake.

Snake.

You guys, remember we started this trick
