eight of hearts, so I'm not quite sure how you were thinking of an eight of

diamonds. Yeah, I got to work on that one. It's fine. Thanks. Thanks for your

help. I'm just going to... That's pretty good.

Our next performer is someone I really enjoy watching.

Here's Jonathan Goodwin.

This is a bed of nails. They were developed in the ancient Far East by

and adopted more recently by modern -day sideshow performers.

There are a thousand nails here.

They're all steel.

They're all sharp.

And I'd like to give one of you a closer look. By coincidence, this is also the

moment in the show where everybody in the first few rows suddenly finds their

shoes fascinating.

Parker. Pleased to meet you, Parker. I'm Jonathan.

Parker, check out my nails. They're real and sharp.

Obviously, Parker, lying on a bed of nails is not a sensible thing to do. In

fact, it's the kind of thing that's so stupid, nobody even had to tell you not

to do it.

Which is why I'm not going to do it.

Yeah, I'm not joking.

What I want you to do is I want you to stand there and face that way.

That's very good. See, now all of your problems are behind you.

Now, the first way you'd spark a lying on a bed of nails is sitting on a bed of

nails. So slowly, carefully, have a seat.

that. At this point, Parker, what would happen if this was a sideshow

performance? Somebody would take, what do you call it, like a cinder block.

Kind of like the one I've got over here.

And they would have somebody pick that up, real cinder block, and they would

place it about there. And then they would take out a sledgehammer, kind of

the one I've got over here, and they would use the sledgehammer to break the

cinder block. Are you ready for that, Parker?

The cinder block, yes.

Sometimes you come across an illusion that makes you truly believe that

you can imagine is possible.

This next trick is exactly that.

Guys, thank you. Thank you so much. And thank each of you. What's your name,

We're about to have some fun.

This is something really cool with a pack of playing cards.

52 possibilities.

All completely random.

The thing about it is, folks, I need four very specific cards.

You'll notice the second I snap my fingers, one card flies through the air.

one happens to be the king of spades. The cool thing about the king of spades

it shows me how to find the king of clubs, and that shows me how to find the

other king.

Now that we've got the four kings, what I'd like you to do, Nazareth, if you

could examine the four kings, make sure they are exactly what they seem to be.

You can use your hands. It's okay.

Make sure there's nothing stuck between them or anything like that. Everything

looks good.

Can I also have you examine the box?

Make sure that there's nothing inside that could cause the magic to happen in

any way.

Looks good. Perfect. Do me a favor.

I want you to take all four kinks, gather them up, turn them face down, and

place them into the box so that he knows with conviction that those are the only

cards in that box.

Then we're going to take it a step further.

Are you left or right -handed? I'm going to close the box. You're right -handed.

Would you mind taking your right hand? Place it on the box so that I can't get

to them.

Perfect. Could I have you do me a favor? Use your left index finger and touch

your card somewhere in the top third of the pack.

Which one was that?

This one right here. Are you sure?

I'm going to show it to you, and then make sure everyone else gets a chance to

see what the card is. It's going to be important in just a moment.

I want you to see the card. It's legitimately going into the center of

Folks, we have here two gentlemen, very nice gentlemen, who have volunteered

from the audience to help us out with a little something.

What is your name, sir? Grant. Grant. Grant. And your name is?

Vince. Vince. Grant and Vince. Grant and Vince, I'm going to teach the both of

you something about the art of chordology. Chordology is the art and

tying knots with ropes. And we're going to see which one of these two gentlemen,

whether it's Grant or it's Vince, we're going to see which one of these two

gentlemen is better at tying knots.

Because we're going to need to do a special knot a little later on.

So all the things I need for this trick are inside this little bag here.

I want you to, Grant, I want you to pick a rope, any rope. Just pick any rope

you want. I want this one. You want that one. Okay, take the whole rope. Keep

going, keep going. You got that one. Okay, Vince, you got the second choice.

Pick one of the two remaining ropes.

Excellent. Okay, now, I'm going to teach the both of you gentlemen how to tie a

knot without letting go of the ends of the ropes. We're only doing this really

as a test to see whether Grant or Vince is better at handling ropes so we can

get to the next phase of the trick. So hold the ropes out like this.

Do not let go of the ends of the ropes. That's very important, okay?

Now you're going to tie a knot without letting go of the ends of the ropes. So

watch what I do.

Bring this end down like that.

Bring this end up.

Put it through here. Hook it on the back of your hand. Turn your hand over, and

you should have a knot, just like that. No, you're letting go of the ends.

You're letting go of the ends. You can't let go of the ends.

Here, try it again. Try it again. Here, take it. Take the rope. Okay, you got

the rope.

Now, that's mine with the knot in it. Why don't you take that one there?

Vince is doing pretty good. Grant is still working on his technique here. So,

I'll tell you what, we'll do a different technique. We'll do the karate chop

knot, okay? Karate chop knot works a little differently.

I want you to take the rope, put the rope across your hand like this.

Okay, do a karate chop knot, okay?

Okay, and go... And you should have a knot just like that. Okay, just give it

a... Okay, neither guy's doing as good. Okay, I'll tell you what, Vince is going

to be the chief.

Not higher, but first I want you guys to examine these ropes. Make sure this is

a regular rope, right?

So you just take a look. It's a regular rope, right?

These two gentlemen have verified that this is an ordinary piece of rope.

why we're going to use this other piece of rope for the trick. So what I want

you to do is I want you to stand up, stand up, stand up, and assume the

position. Now, in magic terms, that means bunny rabbit position.

Bunny rabbit, okay, bunny rabbit.

Step a little closer like this, like this, because I'm inside this bag here.

have a little tablecloth in here.

And you guys are going to hold this tablecloth like that. One, two.

Very good, Grant.

Vince, you're going to hold it like this, just two hands. Make sure both

are side by side. Hold it nice and tight. Don't let go of the ends. Just

separate a little bit, just like that. Now, the reason...

That the three of us are holding our hands here to show that at all times,

two, three, four, five, all six of our hands are visible at all times to prove

that there's no trickery in this, okay? This is an ordinary tablecloth you can

get at any magic shop. So let go of the ends. Let go of the ends. I'm going to

put it down. You're going to pick that up in a minute. But first, I want you to

do a little mini tug -of -war. Hold on to that.

Make sure it's a strong rope, right? Strong rope?

Okay.

I'm going to tie it like this. I want you, Vince, to hold that end.

Grant, to hold that in, pull it nice and tight on my, just nice and tight. Okay,

that's good, that's good, that's good, that's good. Okay, because I want here,

Mr. Vince here, to tie a nice tight knot right there. Just tie a nice tight

knot.

Nice and tight. Pull it nice and tight.

Pull, just tie, okay, tie another knot on top of that one, Vince.

Another knot on top of that. Tie another knot on top of that one, Vince.

Okay, now Grant, with these two remaining little pieces, I want you to

knot so you can pretend you're still part of the show.

Okay, good. Okay, so my hands are tied behind my back carefully. Tell you what,

here, we're going to use this bag.

Vince, I want you to put both your hands inside the bag. Put both your hands

inside the bag and reach around, reach around. Is it empty? Is it empty? Yes.

Okay, grab the bottom of the bag and pull it inside out. Pull it inside out.

Very good. Okay, now I'm going to turn over here to Grant. Grant, I want you to

put both your hands inside the bag. Reach around, make sure it's empty. No

knives, no scissors, nothing hidden inside.

Okay, good.

With your right hand, Grant, I want you to hold on to the black and silver cord.

Then with your left hand, hold the black and silver cord.

Okay, Jesse, you got it? Okay, now, both gentlemen have examined the bag.

They've checked that it's empty. I have nothing hidden.

No knives and scissors. I'm going to try to escape from this rope.

Hit the rope escape music, please. Watch this. The hands go inside the bag just

like this. And this is going to take a little bit of time, so I'm going to

off on this trick.

One second.

Two seconds.

Three seconds, and look at this, folks. The magic rope has disappeared and

changed into a glass of water. You can let go of the end of the bag. Thank you

very much for your help. Thank you very much for your help. Give everybody a big

round of applause.
