You believe in the world of magic, a
world in which nothing is real.

But your mind believes otherwise.

Tonight's mission is to make you doubt
yourself.

So are you ready to be doubted?

Well, will the obvious be hidden by
tonight's Masters of Illusion?

I promise you it will.

Our next performer brings the world of
voodoo to our stage.

To say that he is different, that's an
understatement. Here is Dan Sperry.

I do need the assistance of somebody to
come up on stage to help make sure

everything I'm doing is exactly what I
say it is. Who are you? You're in the

front row. You're convenient.

Who are you? My name is Monica.

What is it? Monica?

Yes. All right, Monica. Perfect. I'm

Because what we do right now is perform
our own voodoo magic ritual ceremony.

And your job is very important. You're
going to be someone from the audience to

make sure everything I'm doing is what I
say it is. Yeah, get excited. It's

going to be great. Get excited.

So first, roll your sleeves back. Magic.

Yeah, so we can see that. Oh, hey,
what's up? Yeah, roll them up so we can

thing is this blindfold.

Don't worry. We watch this after every
show, so you're not going to get pink

or anything like that.

What I'm going to have you do, gently
hold onto this.

I'm going to lift up your right arm.
We're going to bend at your elbow.

And hold your elbow above your heart.
You're going to want to be above the

Yeah, good. Now, since you are under the
voodoo tracks, you shouldn't feel

anything. But what we're going to do
right now is recreate those same rituals

that I just described by making our own
sort of metaphorical human voodoo doll.

So, yeah, don't tense up too much. You
can relax, but don't make a tight fist

because that's what makes the blood
squirt everywhere. That's a mess. That's

good. That's number one. Number two.
Now, with your left hand, your left arm.

Perfect. Move that back.

Number two.

Doing great. Again, yeah, just relax.
Perfect.

That's number two.

Now, as I said before as well, you are
here to make sure everything I'm doing

what I say it is.

So I'm going to take the blindfold off
right now momentarily.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

It's going to get weird. It's going to
get weird. So when I do that, I want you

to take a little peek at each of your
arms and verify yes or no.

Do those needles appear to be going
through your skin?

Look at it.

Yep, okay, that's a yes. She's
definitely under, definitely under the

trend, because that was an amazing
reaction.

Now we're going to let everybody else
have a look as well. We're going to

with just your left arm, just your left
shoulder.

Rotate it open like this, so everybody
can actually see it going through her

skin, but just like those voodoo
practitioners, no holes, no scars, no

That's where we introduce the
ceremonial, very stereotypical voodoo

And it just so happens I have with me
tonight an authentic voodoo doll. As

legend has it, now anything that happens
to the doll should happen to you. I'm

going to have you hold him just like
that for a moment. I have to ask you

something. Are you ticklish?

Yes. Good.

Because that's why we're going to use
this feather and the bottom of the

feet. I'm going to simply tickle the
bottom of the doll's feet and yes or no.

you feel that on the bottom of your

No. No?

You don't feel anything.

Sometimes that happens.

So we need to move to a different area
on the doll.

And instead of the feather, we're going
to go back to the needles. We had better

luck with that. So we're going to use
this much bigger, much larger needle.

So now when this makes contact with the
backside of the doll, all you have to do

is let us know if you feel anything.

Anything at all when this makes contact.

It's a big budget show here, as you can

So we're going to take this ball of wool

place it inside here.

You can hold on like this so it doesn't
fall out. Brilliant. And you're going to

hang on to this in your other hand. You
still got the coin, yes?

Great. And I'm going to need the magic
wand, which will be this sharpie.

Okay. What we're going to need for this

trick to work is actually absolute
silence.

Because I want you to hear the moment

straight through the wall.

So we're going to switch places. You're
going to stand in the middle of the

And just in case anybody in the audience
is wondering, this part of the routine

takes about, maybe about one hour.
