Illusion, the art of tricking the brain, distorting the senses, challenging

perception. You can't trust what you see even with your own eyes.

Meet the masters of illusion.

Tonight we have an amazing show. The world's greatest illusionist on stage to

dazzle you with spectacular pieces of magic.

There are no camera tricks.

You see what they see.

Okay, okay, can the brain hide the obvious, make it invisible?

Well, what does it say on this card?

Bird in the bush.

And you? Bird in the bush.

And you?

Bird in the bush.

Right, so you all agree it says a bird in the bush.

Well, none of you can read. You're all wrong. It actually says a bird in the,

the bush.

Our brain has eliminated the second the.

And so tonight, our illusionists will also play with your senses.

Watch Greg Fruin and a pressure cooker for your mind.

To assist our next performer, you have to have complete confidence and trust. I

mean, total faith that he knows what he's doing.

Here's Michael Turco.

Thank you very much, folks.

We're going to try something tonight a little dangerous.

I do need a volunteer.

What's your name?

Chrissy. Chrissy? Chrissy, come on up here for me. Guys, give Chrissy a big

round of applause.

How are you, Chrissy?

Good. Come on over here. Stand right behind here. Face the audience. Big

All right, good. Christy, I want to tell you, everybody here, and of course,

everyone at home, please, don't ever try this at home.

Okay? It's a little dangerous, but we are going to do it tonight. I have four

coasters. One, two, three, and the

fourth one. The fourth one has a very sharp spike on it.

Check it out. Be careful. Make sure it's sharp.

Very sharp. Very sharp. Cool.

Christy, four coasters.

One spike, four cups.

Take a cup and place on any...

coaster you'd like.

I like your determined face. It looks good.

Go for it. Any coaster you'd like.

Keep going. You have two left.

All right, cool. Christine, one second. I'm going to ask you to kneel down here,

and the objective here is to confuse ourselves and even the audience. We want

totally lose where the spike is, okay?

You're going to hold here like I'm doing, and if a cup should happen to

off, take it, place it back on top, and keep mixing them up. Come on down here.

Perfect. Go for it.

Christy, keep mixing up these cups and coasters. The girls are going to come in

front of this box. They're going to lay a cloth down so you guys can't see

what's happening.

Christy, keep mixing, though. Please don't stop.

Mix, mix, and mix.

Perfect.

Christy, when you're all done, just let me know.

Please take your time, but hurry up.

You're good. Girls, you can drop the cloth. Thank you very much.

Christy, you can stand back up.

Do you possibly know where the spike is? I think I do. You think you do? Okay,

great. Well, I don't want you to know, okay? So I want you to turn this way a

little bit. I'm going to give them one final mix.

No peeking, no peeking. All right?

And then we'll line them back up.

Okay? Christy, turn back around.

I'm going to ask you another question. These two here, would you like to leave

them where they are? Come on up. Or switch them. Leave them or switch them?

Leave them. Be positive. Yeah. Okay, cool. These two here, leave them or

them? Switch them.

You sure? Yes. All right.

Perfect. She knows what she wants.

Chrissy, four cups, four coasters, one spike. Always remember one spike.

Take your two hands, place them on top of mine.

Bring them over the cups here and answer the question real loud. Right or left?

Left. Left.

Chrissy, did you get the hang of it?

Yes. Okay, it always takes the first one for everyone to understand what's going

on up here.

Chrissy, you're doing a great job.

We're going to move down the row here. Take your two hands, place them on top.

I'm going to give you a little bit of an option here.

Okay.

These two?

Perfect. Right? Come a little closer down.

Right or left?

Right. Right.

Christy, that was good.

Christy, we have two left. It's a 50 -50 chance.

Come on down here, get a good look, and let me know when you're ready. I'm

ready. You're quick.

Good. Take your two hands, place them out.

Cool. Here we go.

Christy, I did the first, you did the last one. You're very confident, so I

figured let's go with it, okay?

Christy, think before you answer.

Left or right? Right or left? Which one? Left. Pretty good pick. The right one

got the spike.

Jim Christie, a big round of applause.

Thank you so much.

Coming up, Mike Cavaney, Angela Funovitz, and Barry and Stuart.

Our next master illusionist tries to unravel a mystery.

It is not a question of how, but where.

To shake you up, here is Mike Payton.

Mike, thank you very much.

Thanks a lot.

I've been standing in the crowd since I walked out here.

Gentleman's seated right there. Can you help me out, sir?

Round of applause as he makes his way to the great stage.

Your name?

Jonathan. Jonathan, it's a pleasure to meet you.

I need to borrow a coat. I'm hoping I can use yours. What do you say?

It's okay?

Slide out of the coat.

I will take this coat. Oh, that's ideal. That's perfect, Jonathan.

I'd like you to jump up here in the seat of honor. Make yourself comfortable

right up there.

Lovely jacket.

Hold on right here.

Left hand goes over here, Jonathan.

Eyes straight ahead. You look like a million bucks.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, the basics of hypnosis can be learned by any idiot.

Allow me to demonstrate.

Jonathan, I will count backwards from five to one. As I do, you will fall into

deep hypnotic trance.

Five, four, your eyelids are getting heavy.

Three, two, buckle my shoe.

One, sleep.

Jonathan has fallen into a deep hypnotic trance.

To prove my complete control over him, Jonathan, look me in the eye.

Like a robot, he obeys my every command.

As further proof, I am going to attempt an experiment using a small square of

newspaper.

A small square of newspaper, this pair of cuticle scissors, and Jonathan's

Now what I'll do is take these scissors, run them right through the back of the

coat like this. You'll see them come ripping through right about here.

Would you like to see that?

Oh, that's fun.

Now,

I do think it's interesting to note that under normal circumstances, this would

enrage the owner of the coat.

But, because Jonathan is in a deep cataleptic trance,

he'll find this whole thing rather laughable.

Okay, Jonathan, hold on right here.

Hold on right over here.

Watch those scissors go right through the middle of the coat like that.

Notice the only expression on his face is one of amusement.

Now, of course, the blade of those scissors, they make only a tiny hole in

material. You see, it's when I pull the handle of the scissors through the

lining, you'll actually hear the material as it mends itself back

Listen to the magic.

Oops.

Oh, bummer.

Deep, deep.

I got hung up on the line. I can fix that.

A little extra squeeze is all it takes, and ladies and gentlemen, that coat is

just as good as new.

It works.

You are in a deep hypnotic trance, Jonathan, stay right there.

You can come out of your trance.

Yes, I had better get him out of this trance before we go any further.

You got a hole in your pocket.

You folks stop off for dinner on the way down to the show tonight.

Not to worry. Snap out of it, pal.

Don't worry about the spoon.

Everybody does it.

Oh, come on. One lousy spoon.

You do the same thing you're...

It's like you got a matched set in there, pal.

He's got service for aid in this thing.

This is more than just a hobby with you, isn't it, Jonathan, huh?

Well, I guess that's everything.

Whoa!

Guy's got everything in there but the kitchen sink.

You didn't expect the kitchen sink to fall out of there.

Whoa.

Well, Jonathan, I'm kind of surprised you didn't pick up one of those nice

pitchers.

I stand corrected, my friend.

Well, I got to hand it to you. You set quite a table there, Jonathan. You mind

if I serve dinner?

All right.

Who ordered the chicken?

That's it.

Come on down here, Jonathan.

Take that coat.

Put it there, my friend.

A big hand for Jonathan.

A big hand for Jonathan's chicken.

I'll see you later.

I'm on my way.

Coming up, Angela Funovitz and Barry and Stuart.

How meet an illusionist who's... flame of life is most revealing.

Do not try this at home. Here is Angela Funnels.

Thank you.

I will need a volunteer.

How about you, sir?

Would you mind joining me? What is your name?

Lion. Very nice. Everybody give Lion a big round of applause if he joins me.

So, Lion, I'm going to have you think of someone from your past, okay?

Okay.

Someone who's very special to you, okay? And you've got someone in mind already,

haven't you?

Yes. Okay.

So I want you to go ahead and really start focusing on this person,

that they meant to you, maybe some memories, some experiences that you had

them. And now focus on this person's name. And there's no way that I could

this name, correct?

Correct. Okay.

What we're going to do.

They say that fire has the power to

reveal things, to reveal the unknown.

And that's exactly what we're going to do here tonight.

Now, do you remember a specific memory that you had of this person without

actually giving away the name? Can you tell us something important that

with them?

Yes. They passed away at a young age for me. Okay.

All right. And that stayed with you emotionally? Yes. For sure. This person

very special to you. Yes, they were.

Okay.

What I want you to do right now is to visualize that name.

We'll just go with the first name in your mind and start seeing it in this

as if it is hot like fire.

Okay? Okay.

Here we go.

Lion, for the first time, what was this person's name?

Tammy. Tammy.

I think you'll agree that that is a darn good match for Tammy.

Thank you all.

Thank you, Lion.

Thank you all so much.

to the front of us. Thank you so much.

Next, Barry and Stuart.

Scotland's Mad Men of Mayhem now blend up a unique look into the inside of

magic. Here are Barry and Stuart.

Thanks.

Thank you.

We would like to do a trick for you now that we call Stuart's Surprising Spleen.

And to do that, we need to borrow something from the crowd. So could

the front row, could you reach into your pocket or your bag, take out for us

your cell phones and hold them up high?

Now, in the past, we've found it difficult borrowing things from people

audience. Yeah, people, they don't trust us. No.

Especially with their cell phones.

So we've developed a gentle, persuasive technique to get round this problem.

Uh, he's, uh, he's sitting right there.

Keep your hands where you can see them and get that out of your phone.

Give it here.

Come on, give it to him. I will give you a wet willy. Have a seat. With a knife.

What you've all just witnessed is a mugging.

Sorry about that one, victim.

Victim. Sorry, you're not, you're not, you're not really a victim. What's your

name? Charlie. Sorry about that one, Charlie.

Charlie.

To do this trick, we need Stuart's spleen, we need your phone, but we also

one other thing, and that's this.

High -speed blender.

First, Charlie, your phone goes in the blender.

Then we add some milk.

Don't worry, Charlie, this is 0 % fat milk.

Now, here comes the magic bit. Everybody watch very, very carefully.

Charlie, you might want to go away.

OK, Charlie, your phone's all blended up. Now we need to give it a shake.

Oh, yes, we do.

Just keep telling yourself, Charlie, this is all an illusion.

But it's not an illusion, is it? No, don't tell him that.

The perfect phone cocktail.

We like to call this one text on the beach.

Here we go.

And now, Charlie, to make your phone completely disappear.

Gone. Totally gone.

No, no, no.

I know what you're thinking, and yes, you are right. The phone hasn't actually

vanished. The pieces of the phone are right now.

besides Stuart's very surprising spleen. And, you see, the thing about Stuart is

he grew up in the northeast of Scotland on a diet of oat, haggis, and when he

was very, very young, malt whiskey.

And that gave Stuart the properties of his very surprising spleen, didn't it?

did. We can prove this to you now using this X -ray machine.

You see, earlier today, I drank a special radioactive fluid, uh, Sunny D.

And...

Charlie, it means your phone should show up on an X -ray picture.

Let me just get inside the X -ray machine right here.

We do have a photographic plate that, when placed in front of the machine,

should develop pictures showing us the precise location of your phone.

Let's have a look.

Ooh.

OK, right.

Now, I'm not actually a professional doctor, but I can tell, looking at that

very, very realistic, kind of no way fake picture there, that Charlie, your

phone is right beside Stuart's very surprising spleen. Yep. The phone has

reformed itself in my stomach. All right, buddy.

Do it.

Buddy,

you don't have the phone. You've messed this up.

Pull your hand back. Hang on, I know I missed it. Try again.

Stuart. I'm stuck. I'm stuck in your rib.

You know what?

I think I'm just going to have to go forward.

Forward? Yeah. Oh, God!

Ah!

Ah! Ah!

Ah!

Stuart!

Stuart! Look! Ah!

I've got a phone!

Charlie! Come on up here!

Quick as you can!

Come on, this is your business.

Stop the step.

If you do that any slower, time is money.

Charlie, take your phone back.

Hopefully, if you wipe off the blood and the bile, that thing still works. Give

it up for Charlie who goes back to his feet.

Ah! Ah!

Ah! Do it!

I'm going to do a backflip! A backflip? You've lost your mind!

Be sure to join us next time for more Masters of Illusion.

Until then, I'm Dean Cain.

Good night.
