ever graduate of Dr.

Shelby's anger management course, Team Hell No.

Going out and being serious and in some cases being the psychotic

monster, that could be difficult.

I am the monster.

That you will never wake up from.

Because that was not part of my personality.

I actually would get frustrated at various points in my career because,

can do much more than being locked into this kind of, he's a monster.

It's hard to say when I actually met Kane for the first time. And you have to

understand that when I first came to WWE, Kane had already been on TV as

So my interactions

Then it started crossing into a little bit of a friendship.

And this moment happened in Spokane, Washington.

And then we came up with this idea of downtowning people.

Now, this is not the most hygienic thing, but say they're in the bathroom

We slide our phone underneath there and close the door, and it's plain downtown,

and they just have to listen to downtown the whole time while they're sitting on

the toilet. And so I was like, I'm going to downtown Kane.

But first, before I do that...

His bag is up against the wall on the other side of the room. So I build this

massive wall of chairs, separating him from the door and his bag. And then we

turn the lights off. So he comes back from his match. He had just had, like,

this great match. He comes back in the locker room, and he's feeling good about

what he had just done. And he opens the door. He sees it's dark. He turns the

light on.

And there he is, separated from his bag by these huge pile of chairs.

while Downtown by Petrula Clark is playing.

You can just see the blood flushing to his face, and he's getting angry.

Somebody messed with his stuff. He's a veteran.

And then he turned around, and there I am with my dumb idiot face saying,

Gotcha!

And he just went from angry to just...

Then I knew we were friends.

And then I took the chairs down.

Gentlemen, I see you both have balls.

And it's funny because if you look through the history of wrestling, a lot

the great tag teams have hated each other.

For whatever reason, they're able to go out there and make it work in front of

the camera.

And then they fight like cats and dogs backstage.

And Daniel and I had a very different relationship.

Ours was the opposite. We actually didn't get together very well on camera.

We got together great backstage.

Some people come in as tag teams. Some people pitch to be tag teams.

Sometimes it's just thrust upon you.

Kane and I teaming together was thrust upon us. What happened was I was going

off the rails as a character. I was losing my mind.

I told you I'm not leaving!

I am not leaving!

Do you understand me? I am not leaving!

Charlie Sheen had just come out with this show called Anger Management.

I was supposed to do a singles match at SummerSlam with Charlie Sheen.

Plus watching him cry like a baby. I mean, come on, Daniel. Man up, you oompa

loompa. But when they started this story, they had never actually gotten

Sheen to sign a contract.

And so we were two weeks away from SummerSlam, and they didn't have...

Charlie Sheen anymore.

So it was like, okay, well now you're going to do a match against Kane.

You have two characters which are complete opposites.

I'm a big monster.

Daniels, he's a technical performer.

For me, it's easier to work on the smaller guy because the story's always

The one thing

that stands out about my match with Kane at SummerSlam is it was my first

attempt inside WWE.

And there have been many, just so you know.

It was my first attempt at labeling myself Mr. Small Package.

Aberdeen, Washington, I am known as Mr.

Small Package.

When they first told me about the skit, I just rolled my eyes.

I saw the dialogue, and this was the first time I'd ever really had to read,

like, dialogue.

And I'm sitting there, and we're going through, and we just go through, like,

small sections at a time. And I'm like, this isn't funny.

Like, this is stupid. Oh, and I just kept thinking, like, oh, no, this isn't

going to be good at all.

But then through the magic of editing, they aired the first one.

And I was like, that was pretty good.

I don't have a goat face. I am handsome.

Can you set this up, doctor?

You listen to me, you little brat. You take that goat mask off

right now. Do you hear me?

This is my son Richard.

He's a goat in his school play Noah's Ark.

Richard, this man is sick and needs help.

There are a number of moments that stick on my mind from those vignettes.

Now I've got the mask on, have the outer mask.

And I just never forget the expression on Daniel Bryan's face when everybody

else is horrified, and he's just sitting there with this look of absolute

disdain. There were a couple times that I would chuckle when Kane was talking

about all the horrible things he'd done.

I've been married, divorced, broke up my wife's wedding, and tombstoned a

priest. And he's just sitting there in his mask, just sitting like this.

I set a couple people on fire.

abducted various co -workers.

And I electrocuted somebody's testicles.

That was fun.

And I'm having to be appalled by all the... Like, he's clearly the crazy one.

Like, he's the crazy one. You see, Harold, this is what I deal with on a

basis. But it was hard for me internally not to laugh because he was just so

good at just saying these horrible things in just a completely deadpan

I'm Dr.

Shelby. Michael Askew, who was the actor who ended up being Dr. Shelby. People

just loved his character.

Oh! Uh -oh. And he was just a

fantastic performer.

He really didn't know anything about wrestling, but he was just pitch perfect

in how mundane he was.

as the therapist when you first and he's smiling and like okay yep sure and then

he progressively is getting like crazier and then he loses his stuff the layers

to his acting uh i was just very impressed with and really made the whole

with kane and i work right from the beginning Just like so many other things

that we do in our business, again, this is all a team effort.

And even the folks that have small parts become vitally important because

they're the catalyst for propelling the whole thing forward.

When we take our characters out of the WWE environment, out of the WWE box,

and put them in the real world, that's what makes it work.

Can I take your order?

This is stupid.

We're in a diner in Albany, New York, and one side is kind of down for us to

our vignette, but the other side was still open for business.

So there are people coming in, you know, patrons and customers of the

restaurant, and then we're over there on the other side screaming and yelling,

Ow!

As good as the vignette was, I think that it would have been even better if

had just shot the reaction of the people who were sitting on the other side of

the restaurant watching us do our thing. No!

Cut.

Okay, I'm good. Yeah, I'm good.

This is the most awkward and weird thing I've ever seen.

That wasn't a hug.

That was a chest bump.

So when that came back, I was thrilled because that's the reaction I wanted.

Because, I mean, frankly, if they wanted us to fight, there was never going to

be a team element.

Is one of my favorite segments. That I've ever done.

Because.

There's me.

And Kane.

Two grown men.

Attempting to hug.

And so.

I'm a little proud of that.

And it was one of those things that it wasn't supposed to quite happen, I don't

think, like it did.

And I remember that Brian James Road Dogg said, if you're not careful, you

are going to end up having a heck of a tag team.

Is this because I didn't invite you to my house for Thanksgiving?

Maybe.

Throughout my career.

that's when you know that you're on to something. When you can do something,

hey, let's go out and try this, and it works, and it works almost no matter

what. I remember doing that with Undertaker and especially Austin or

can just go out there and pretty much, hey, we're going to try something. We

think it's going to be fun, and the audience digs it.

Man, that's great for everybody. And it was the same feeling with Team Helmel.

Ladies and gentlemen, up next, the WWE Tag Team Titles are on the line, coping

in our truth against the unlikely team of Daniel Bryan and Kane.

Winning the Tag Team Titles in the manner that we did, the most difficult

of it was the creative process.

We have a problem.

Wheels just fell off the cart. I remember that match becoming like a

creative process as far as four guys working together to try to tell this

Kobe Kingston and R -Truth and Truth caught in midair by King. That's what

have to do.

Which you have one partner deliberately trying to do something to the other

partner and then it backfires and causes the team to win.

I didn't have much control coming down. I weighed about 320 pounds.

Kofi was lucky to survive because it's not a move that I normally do and

certainly not one where I'm getting pushed off the top row.

Vince had the idea for I am the tag team champions.

Everybody, I'm the tag team champion.

Drove me nuts.

I have a degree in English, and of course you're just butchering the

language. Hey, hey, I'm the tag team champion.

It's so grammatically incorrect.

I'm the tag team champion. I'm the tag team champion.

I'm the tag team champion. Doesn't make any sense at all.

I'm the tag team champion.

But when I saw.

I immediately thought that it was fun and funny.

I am the Tag Team Champions! I am the Tag Team Champions! I don't even know

I am the Tag Team Champions means to this day. Look it on a t -shirt, though.

Was it team teamwork, team hell no, or team friendship?

I so wanted us to be team friendship.

Kane and I had these ideas for t -shirts and all like with like hand drum by

like a kid, like a Kane and Daniel Bryan holding hands with a rainbow over it

that said team friendship. And we're like, oh, we're going to sell a million

these shirts.

I also loved team teamwork.

Team teamwork was terrible.

Did not want team teamwork.

Team Hell No!

That's the lamest one of the three.

And Kane and I were both thinking, like, ah, there goes all our merchandising

ideas. It was one of those things where it was like, well, we'll make this work

as best we can, but we really wanted to be team friendship.

To our anger management graduation ceremony for Kane and

Daniel Bryan.

And then we have the graduation ceremony.

One of the gifts of my life, a true gift, is that this job is so much fun.

There have been a ton of moments where I've just gone out and had a great time.

Are you kidding me? No, I'm not. Really? Of course. Come on, give me one.

That's enough. The live audience realized that this was kind of the end

particular chapter.

And the one thing I probably haven't talked about enough is how much audience

participation that we were able to get with Team Hellboy. What about this guy?

What about this guy?

And again, as Kane, that was something that was unique and different for me. I

mean, I've never had like great catchphrases.

So to be able to get that sort of audience participation was wonderful.

There are times that losing a

title hurts.

There's times where losing a title feels really, really good. It's when you know

that you've done something good for somebody else.

Or when you know that it's taking a next step in the evolution of your

character, like it's a trigger.

Losing the championship, especially to the Shield, it's kind of like you've had

a championship season in baseball or basketball or football.

And now it's come to an end.

And it's back to the drawing board, and you have to start all over again.

You don't know where it goes, but you do know that you just had the best season

you ever had.

And how are you going to live up to that again?

What is this?

What is this?

And then after the show, this is what they wanted our promo to be.

Man, somebody needs to stop these S .H .I .E .L .D. guys with the implication

that it's not Kane and I. Somebody better than us needs to stop these guys.

Neither of us like that. We just riffed on it. And I said in the thing, I am not

the damn weak link.

Excuse me, Daniel Bryan. Hey, do you know what? I am so tired of you guys

coming up to us in situations like that. Okay, do you want me to say I'm sorry?

Is that what you want me to say? You want me to say I'm sorry?

I'm sorry that I lost the tag team titles, okay? I'm sorry that I got

there. You guys always like to come up here and make me seem like the weakling.

I'm not the weakling!

And this idea of me trying to prove to Kane...

Even though he is not saying that I'm the weak link. I'm just, this is my own

internal obsession. It's proving to everybody that I'm not this weak link.

is what ended up catapulting me into the singles run that led to me main event

in WrestleMania 30.

A lot of times, you know, in WWE, there's this big picture.

Like with Daniel Bryan, he's able to change the picture.

Starting with being able to submit Seth Rollins.

Steve Austin was the anti -hero. He was right for that time. Hulk Hogan was the

hero. He was right for that time.

Daniel Bryan was right for the time. He was the guy that everyone and everybody

out there watching could relate to.

And he was also the guy that was being kept down.

And for him to be able to break out and be able to do all the things that he

did, this guy can beat all the odds.

They did.

What Team Hell No means to me is it brought me and an incredible human being

together.

There is no Daniel Bryan WrestleMania 30 moment without Team Hell No.

I was on a completely different course.

And the Team Hell No run.

allowed me to show the audience a different part of myself that allowed

attach to me even more.

And that doesn't happen without Kane.

Kane is an incredible character that has withstood a long time at WWE and the

legacy of WWE.

But despite how much of an incredible character Kane is, Glenn is an even

person. And that's the real Thrill of team hell no.

There we go. Yes. Kane and Daniel Bryan have hung it out.

Anger management, I believe, has been a success.
