Gaia, the spirit of the Earth

can no longer stand the terrible destruction

plaguing our planet.

She sends five magic rings

to five special young people.

Kwame from Africa, with the power of Earth.

[sirens wailing]

From North America, Wheeler

with the power of fire.

[tires screech]

[theme music]

From the Soviet Union, Linka, with the power of wind.

From Asia, Gi, with the power of water.

[music continues]

And from South America

Ma-Ti, with the power of heart.

When the five powers combine

they summon Earth's greatest champion

Captain Planet!

(Planeteers) Go, Planet!

(Captain Planet) The power is yours!

[instrumental music]

[birds chirping]

[dramatic music]

[engine whirring]

Hey, Nukem, we got a problem here.

This part of the forest is too dense for the Sludge-O-Matic.

There's no problem.

You know what you call a tree that grows in my way, Sludge?

Firewood!

- Uh-oh. - Ha-ha-ha!

[laughing]

[explosion]

[whirring]

[growls]

- 'Heads up, Ma-Ti!’ - Uh!

Hey, Ma-Ti, are you alright, dude?

You're right, Ma-Ti. We have an eco-emergency.

To the crystal chamber, Planeteers.

It's a trail of radioactive waste.

but it all looks the same to me.

There are thousands of plants and animals.

Each plays a role in the forest's survival.

what they can do to my village.

You see how that area's a different shade of green?

Those are our crops growing

among the trees.

We live in harmony with the forest.

We do not harm it.

[fire blazing]

[people screaming]

That fire could reach the convoy.

If the toxic waste in those trucks catches fire

it will contaminate the entire forest!

First we wrap up Sludge. Then we get Nukem.

(Nukem) ‘Sounds like somebody's looking for trouble.’

First, we need to get rid of Nukem.

[laughing]

[grunts]

(Sludge) Nothing like a little toxic waste

to bring a superhero back down to Earth.

[both laughing]

Oh, it looks bad!

(Nukem) Well, Captain Planet

where are your little helpers now?

[engine revs]

- Huh? - Hey! They're getting away!

After them, sludge brain!

[dramatic music]

Faster! They are gaining on us!

(Linka) ‘Grab the rope, Captain Planet!’

[Linka grunting]

[tires screeching]

We're going to crash!

‘Jump, Kwame!’

[both grunt]

[crash]

Ah! Hrrr!

Nothing like a quick shower to revive you.

[music continues]

- Agh! We're in trouble! - Oh, no!

(Nukem) 'What's the matter, kiddies?’

‘Scared you're gonna take the fall?’

and it's a very low number.

(Captain Planet) ‘Speaking of numbers'

(Captain Planet) Time for you to leave this place alone.

This stuff's too dangerous to keep around here

so it's going to the one place

where nuclear energy is a way Of life..

...the sun.

(Ma-Ti) ‘My people are moving deeper into the forest’

to protect our way of life, but | wonder..

...how much longer will there be a rain forest for my people?

|, too, wonder, my friend.

[growls]

(Planeteers) Go, Planet!

The rain forest is disappearing, Planeteers

and with it, much of the hope for our planet.

We are just beginning to discover

the medical treasures of the rain forest.

Who knows? Maybe the plant which cures cancer is here.

But at the rate the rain forest is being destroyed..

We may never find out.

Unless we decide to stop the destruction

before it's too late.
