Can I have some of that?
May I top you off, Mallory?
So, Susie, are you gonna tell us
what we're doing here or what?
Okay. Here's the headline.
[ Whooshes ][ All gasp ]
How'd you end up with a tornado in your neck?
If you follow me into the other room,
you'll get the rest of the story.
I just wanna say, obviously I'm the new witch
on the broomstick...
Ooh, it's storybook time.
And look, Ramona's here.
- Hi, Ramona. - Hi!
It's so good to see you.
It looks like we're all here so-
Hey, I just wanna say obviously I'm the new witch
on the broomstick, hehe-No, no stop.
We'll do your first day of school
thing later, Hedgehog. We're already doing my thing.
Oh, yes. That makes sense.
And now children, here's the storybook for today.
"The Story of Mildred."
Children: Ugh, Mildred!
Feet where the hands should be, frogs a-plenty.
We already know this story.
Well, did you hags know that she's my sister?
[ Gasps ]
Once upon a time, Mildred and I lived in a strange,
faraway land called England.
One day, I chose to drink a potion to become immortal
and Mildred drank the rest of the potion behind my back.
[ Gasp ] Yeah, she copied me.
Typical younger sister behavior, but this is not that story.
Chapter 1: I Never Should Have Gotten on That Boat.
I had just arrived in Massachusetts...
Pilgrim Woman: Witch!
[ Hisses ] Oh!
Since Miss Mary was going to send Mildred
along right after me, I figured I only had a few days
to find us a home and a trade.
Hot- - Parsnips!
The new sensation.
Hot corn was already played out over here.
So I marched into the first business I saw.
It was a clock shop. Listen up.
I'm an older sister waiting for my little sister.
And I need a job and a place to live
and you're gonna give me both of those things.
Can you start at 9:00 a.m.?I cannot.
I have to be at the docks every morning at 9:00 a.m.
I'll start at 10:00.
Grigory Midnight, get in here with the key!
Here's the key.
Thank you so much, Grigory.
[ Ribbit! ] Aah!
You can't stay. No pets.
But actually it's not a pet frog.
It's a brooch turned into a frog by my twerp of a sister.
It's basically a family heirloom.
Well, can your sister turn it back into a brooch?
She cannot. We're not sure why.
It's part of her charm.
No, this frog'll be here as long as Mildred is.
Which'll be forever.
My sister's an immortal tween.
I like you.
You seem troubled.
Let me show you to your clock.
[ Clocks chiming ]
[ Grumbles ]
Chapter 2...
After one of the worst night's sleep of my life,
I went to the docks every day with nothing
but a dumb frog by my side
and a dumb crick in my beautiful neck.
But Mildred never appeared.
[ Ticking ]
As the weeks turned to months,
I grew furious at Mildred for forcing me to worry so much.
Nope. Nope.
Ugh, nope. [ Growls ]
[ Ticking, chiming ]
Then one boat brought something that no other boat had.
Oh! A pet frog!
[ Grunts ] Oh, you can have this.
What was it? It was covered with drawings and lines.
It turned my fingers black.
It was what I've come to understand
was the first newspaper of our time.
I tried to read it, but it was kind of a mess.
Lines and lines of tiny, cramped words
underneath bigger lines, as big as your head.
Headlines.
Then I saw one headline that read:
"Mildrewd Strookes Agurne."
Nobody knew how to spell back then.
"Massive Toronado Hits Parif."
I had what I needed.
Chapter 3: Chasing Tornadoes.
I didn't wanna get on another boat- to heck with that.
I needed fresh air. So I decided to fly to Paris.
It was my first transatlantic flight,
so it took a long time.
About 33 hours, give or take half an hour.
I was relieved to see the coast of France,
but by the time I got to Paris, Mildred the Tornado was gone.
In Paris, my favorite things was ordering a croissant
for the first time.
Oh, and in honor of Mildred,
the Parisians invented something new-
A "mini affiche" or a "mini poster."
Following news reports, I went to other countries
but by the time I got somewhere,
Mildred was always gone
and the storms had always died down.
In Morocco, we ate pita bread, that was nice.
And we saw Mildred there on a tapestry.
In India, we ate Naan bread.
We liked that a lot.
That's my sister.
In Japan, we ate milk bread.
That was really good.
Of course, Mildred wasn't there.
Not in person anyway.
I found an island in the Pacific.
It later became famous as Easter Island.
There were big mysterious faces there
and one face that looked familiar.
This went on for about 80 years.
We flew pretty much everywhere in the world.
Always one step behind Mildred.
80 years. 80 years of my life gone!
We'll never able to catch her
unless I can predict where she will be heading to next.
Ugh! What kind of advanced sorcery would that be?
Alright, where to next?
What the...
Hey you! Fruit Farmer!
And of course, it was Bassoon.
[ Clamoring ]
Alright, alright. Anyway...
How did you know a storm was coming?
Have you been in touch with Mildred?
Where is she?
Well, if by "Mildred" you mean my inner
Yeti nature then yes, I have been in touch with her.
Uh, come again?
You asked how I knew about the storm.
Us Yetis get all hopped up on adrenaline
anytime a storm's coming.
You've seen a Yeti cartwheel, right?
That's us releasing all the pent-up pressure
we get from stormy weather.
Frogs croak, sheep huddle.
Every animal has its own way of reacting
to what's on the horizon.
Well, nothing like that happens to me.
Oh, but it does.
You just can't discern it yet.
You're not in touch with those little storm bones of yours.
Well, then, help me.
Don't just stand there waggling me bones.
Intervene.
Mmm. Why not?
I suppose I could use the company.
Even on a clear day, the earth is sending you
all kinds of signals- pressures, vibrations.
But it takes careful attention to tell them apart
from the usual hum of your own body.
You mean like toots?
No. Alright.
Listening for earth vibrations.
Take one.
[ Grunting ]
Susie. [ Gasps ] Yes?
Grab a piece of that grass, would you?
Whoa! Don't pull it out.
Geez.
Most people press too hard when they hold things.
They hold on for dear life.
Gripping so tight they can't ever feel what's coming off
the thing they're holding onto.
But there's stuff coming off that blade of grass.
Can you feel it? No.
I didn't say "Can you see it?"
Close your eyes.
Now, feel it.
What is it telling you? Deep down.
Is it excited?
Maybe it's hungry.
What's it saying?

I felt it. In my hand. A little itch.

Yep. Like the old saying goes: Palm of a witch begins to itch,
storm's as close as one long stitch.
Oh, my gosh!

How had this happened?
Why would Mildred's magic suddenly wear off?
I rolled the question over in my mind counting the years.
I had been living on magical time for a while now,
which meant that Mildred had too.
Unless Mildred never drank that potion
and Mildred wasn't immortal at all.
Heather: We're so sorry, Susie.
Is this, like, the anniversary or something?
Should we make you a cup of tea?

What? No, no, no, no.
