Welcome back.

Local time just past, uh, 12, midday.

Oh, it's hot!

Forty-one degrees centigrade!

It's the penultimate round of the 250cc World Championship.

And it's an Italian, Marco Simoncelli,

who could be crowned world champion here in Malaysia.

Well, we could be watching a new world champion in action...

They all get away fairly cleanly from the front row!

Simoncelli gets a REALLY good start!

Here he comes, I'm sure Simoncelli wants to get past Kallio!

Here comes Marco Simoncelli to take over at the front!

Simoncelli where he wants to be, to win the world title!

Oh, Marco Simoncelli has run it wide in turn one!

(REVVING)

# WOLFMOTHER: Joker & The Thief

# The story 'bout the joker and the thief in the night

# I said the joker is a wanted man

# He makes his way all across the land

# I see him sifting through the sand

# So, I'll tell you all the story

# 'Bout the joker and the thief in the night

# As she's standing in the field of clover

# Watching out every day...

# I wonder what would happen if he took her away

# The vagabond is moving slow

# So, I'll tell you all the story 'bout the joker and thief

# I said I'll tell you all the story 'bout the joker and thief

# I said I'll tell you all the story

# 'Bout the joker and thief in the night! #

(REPORTERS CLAMOURING AND JOSTLING)

(WHOOPING)

(GULLS CAWING IN DISTANCE)

Well, welcome back.

Nick Harris, really did open proceedings with a great 125cc race.

250 should be equally exciting.

Some old favourites in there, some new faces in there as well.

Circuit built in 2004.

First time a world championship motorsport event on tarmac has been held under floodlights.

Twenty laps of the Losail International Circuit!

Marco Simoncelli down in 14th...

While we've seen him so near the top

and crashing out on too many occasions,

his testing has been superb, Marco Simoncelli.

Let's have a look... Yeah, that's the crash.

Now he's out of the race, real disappointment for him.

Bautista leading the way.

Simoncelli really piling on the pressure!

I'm sure he's gonna even try and make another move now,

Marco Simoncelli,

as he makes his way around the dry sack corner,

tucked in behind Alvaro Bautista.

Marco Simoncelli just behind him!

One lap remaining in the Spanish Grand Prix!

That's what's happening at the front!

Simoncelli very, very close!

They're going through this fast... Oh, they're down!

They've both gone down, Simoncelli pushing far too hard!

And that's a silly move from Marco Simoncelli!

Should have waited longer,

and down goes Simoncelli, down goes Bautista!

(INAUDIBLE)

Bautista leads, then Simoncelli in second.

Marco Simoncelli on the Gilera.

It'll be 20 very important world championship points

for the Grand Prix winner.

Here they go!

Very, very close coming across the line!

And they come together! Wow!

# Keep that smile on your face... #

Marco Simoncelli always makes a good start,

as does Alvaro Bautista.

It could be Bautista that leads the way.

Hector Barbera up the inside, is it?

It is Hector Barbera who leads the way,

but he runs it wide, it's Bautista that leads.

Simoncelli in second place...

Debon's got up there into third, behind them.

Good start from Debon in there, from the second row.

Hector Barbera led into the first bend...

Well, Bautista out of the race from first position!

Marco Simoncelli still leads the way,

little bit ragged at the front!

Hector Barbera...

Hector Barbera going past Marco Simoncelli to take the lead.

Five laps to go...

Well, it's a dress rehearsal for the last...

Oh, down goes Hector Barbera on the straight!

Well, he crashes against the wall, Hector Barbera!

Coming out,

just forcing it far too much on the home straight

and his bike stricken...

He just made contact with the wall, but he looks like he'll be OK,

Hector Barbera.

Pole position for the Italian, Marco Simoncelli.

He's riding the new Gilera here,

taking a bit of a gamble

after a very successful test on the Gilera in Brno.

(REVVING)

Marco Simoncelli in pole position.

Round ten of the 250cc World Championship!

Twenty-nine laps of the Sachsenring Circuit!

Simoncelli's dropped right back!

Just down to about fourth, there!

Simoncelli takes the lead from Simon as they race up towards the left-hander

that brings you back at the start.

Marco Simoncelli has over a seven-second advantage,

7.4 now over Mika Kallio.

"This is fun out here!" (CHUCKLES)

Marco Simoncelli, he's losing a few seconds now,

here and there.

It doesn't matter, he has got this race!

He's running a FANTASTIC race at the front!

Simoncelli's got this race absolutely in his pocket!

Down the hill he goes for the last time...

Marco Simoncelli's gonna win the race and here we go...

Simoncelli comes through the spray,

front wheel of the Gilera in the air!

He's taken over the lead in the world championship!

He's won his third Grand Prix of the season!

Twenty-one-year-old Italian,

started the race from pole position,

and after a couple of laps

there was no doubt who was gonna win it.

The lights are on red,

26 laps and they're underway!

Takahashi leads the way,

and it's Barbera in second, then Espargaro,

Simoncelli just getting squeezed out to fourth.

Simoncelli straight back, though.

Look at Aoyama, as well, up into fifth!

Simoncelli, it's spurred him into action,

hasn't it?

But through goes Simoncelli into the lead.

Oh...! (OVERLAPPING COMMENTARY)

That's the end of it, I think!

These two are gonna get a rap on the knuckles! They are!

Braking and...

Simoncelli and Barbera almost come together!

Oh, Simoncelli is down!

Marco Simoncelli is down!

He's got that big lead in the championship,

his two main rivals have got out,

but he's got involved in a personal vendetta with Hector Barbera!

Marco Simoncelli, here he is, home in sixth spot.

(CHEERING)

(REVVING)

(INAUDIBLE CONVERSATION)

This could be a very, very big day indeed

for the 21-year-old Italian Marco Simoncelli.

He's got a 37-point lead.

If Alvaro Bautista, who's qualified second, wins the race

then Simoncelli needs to finish second or third.

Welcome back.

Oh, Marco Simoncelli has run it wide in turn one!

And Simoncelli drops to fourth!

It's Aoyama now,

and Bautista just tried to go through!

Bautista has passed Simoncelli,

Simoncelli tried so hard to make sure Bautista didn't get back,

and he's paid the price!

He drops to fourth position!

Aoyama through, up into second position.

And, uh, he's retaken that position from Simoncelli.

Concentrate, concentrate, concentrate...

There we go...

There's confirmation of how the world championship stands at this very moment.

One-and-a-half laps to go for Marco Simoncelli...

One-and-a-half laps between him

and the 2008 250cc World Championship!

It's a lonely third place,

that's exactly how he would want it!

(LAUGHS) He doesn't care, does he?

He doesn't want anybody too far, too much in front.

He certainly doesn't want anybody behind him there,

not there.

It's panned out perfectly for him now.

Just looked a little dodgy,

as it probably would have done at any stage,

but he rode the race well

and when Julian Simon dropped out with a mechanical problem,

there was only three at the front

and he knew then that third place would be enough to give him the world title.

Great second-half to the season for Bautista!

Nine podiums in a row, his fourth victory,

but that's not gonna be enough for the championship.

With Aoyama in second,

Marco Simoncelli clinches the 2008 250cc World Championship

here at Sepang in Malaysia

by finishing in third place!

(INTENSIFIES)

(MUSIC CONTINUES)

How does that sound, to be world champion?

I'm... I'm happy!

(EXHALING AND PANTING)

I stay not so good,

because a lot of hot...

It's wonderful.

I...

I...

I...

I can't speak!

I'm too hot, I'm sorry!

(LAUGHS)

Congratulations, anyway, Marco!

Thanks very much and get some water!

It's wonderful! Thank you!
