'30s, before the war,

the State Department had advised
all US embassies of Europe

to delay and effectively prevent
the Jews from obtaining visas.

By 1941, Jewish immigration
to the United States

was virtually shut down.

when the World Jewish
Congress raised

money to bribe foreign
