- Death never comes easy
for the old or the young.

And once someone passes

across that mysterious
line into the afterlife,

it's those of us who remain on this side

that feel the pain.

It's a line we all must cross at some point.

None of us gets to skip it.

There's no way to bypass it.

Yet when someone so young is taken early,

we can't help but hear

that one lonely word
echoing in our minds.

Why?

- Hey. Hey man.

- Why did a senseless act of violence

have to befall this beautiful young lady?

- You guys okay?

- Why did her wonderful family
have to suffer this loss?

- She's hurting right
now, but she's a strong girl.

- Why do we in the community
have to say goodbye

to one of our brightest?

(gentle music)

Well, my answer is simply this.

For those who are in Christ

because of the cross,
there will be a reunion.

Death is not the end.

Let's each take a moment

to lift up the Reynolds family in prayer.

(insects chirping)

(footsteps walking)

(person sniffing)

- It's gonna be okay.

- I've asked our Chief
of Police, Bill Tomlinson

if he would please come up
here and offer a few words

of comfort for those of us here tonight.

(dog barking)

- You know, I'm more of
a justice kind of guy

so I don't really have any words

of inspiration for you this evening

but I do want you to know
that our community is safe

and our department's doing
everything in its power

to ensure that something like
this never happens again.

Seems like every time
we pin Tomlinson down,

We got somebody with information

on Tomlinson, wants to talk with us.

- Technically I'm still on leave.

- Yeah, I know, I know.

But this is big Sarge, I need you.

(door knocking)

- Are you coming out today?

Your mom made some mac and cheese.

- I don't really feel like
being around people today.

- Okay, well there's
food if you're hungry.

- I'm gonna talk to her for a minute.

It's not fair, is it?

It's hard to see how life
can get back to normal, huh?

Well, if you ever wanna talk
to a girl who can relate

to what you're feeling,

but I've been through a lot.

And even though it's been
rough, I've made it through.

Anyway,

maybe some of what I've been through,

maybe it could help others,

and you know who my boss is.

and a few others that we can trust.

- Okay, so about two and a half years ago,

Tomlinson, when he was still a sergeant,

he came to me asking me
about business ideas,

said he had some situation

with his family that required extra funds.

I mean, we started small and legal,

with some associates of mine.

But you know, it's a slippery slope.

As our operation grew,
Tomlinson needed somebody

inside of the department
to keep things under wraps.

And he said Travis,

with all of his religious
stuff wouldn't help.

But that Detective Tanner,
well, she might be up for it.

He knew Kris's brother was on Fentanyl

and he was a thorn in her side.

And so Bill made sure

that a laced batch ended up in his hands.

- Same batch that killed him.

- That's right.

- No, no.

- Hey.

they killed me brother,

they killed him.

- We will get him.

(person crying)

(gentle music)

We work with girls, to
entertain clientele.

Bill brought her in,

the waitress, and well,
she didn't take well,

apparently she had talked
to somebody at her work.

So Vince or Raven had to silence her.

- Do you know which one
it was, who killed her?

- We're close bud, we'll get 'em.

- Vince, he grabbed her
after work and he took her

to the alley, shot her, and
then they moved the body

to the warehouse to blame the boyfriend.

- I'm glad you know how to do this stuff

But this job is over.

We need to get out.

- No, no, no, not yet.

We're still one step ahead of them.

(insects chirping)

- Hey, thank you Mrs. Travis.

- You're very welcome.

- Thanks babe.

- So if the Rangers closed
the case, then your hands are tied?

- We filed a report to open up
an investigation with the FBI

but it's gonna take weeks,
possibly even months.

- As far as the agency's
concerned, it's closed.

We're not even supposed
to be here right now.

- So Hank is willing to wear
a mic to get us everything

we need outta Tomlinson's mouth
and we're just gonna wait?

- No, it's possible that
we already have enough

as it is, Tanner's testimony and Anthony,

couple that with everything else we got.

- Man, I got the photos
from outside of the concert, so.

- No, you can barely see anything in them.

They'll never fly.

- But this other direction
you're talking about

it's gonna take weeks or months, right?

- Unfortunately.

- Well we don't have the time.

- Look guys, we've tried
to catch him twice already.

- Yeah, but we didn't have
Tomlinson's right hand man

willing to work with us.

And look, as much as
I hate using a tragedy

and this guy's family as leverage,

how long is he gonna be feeling

the way he's feeling right now?

- Wait, come on guys.

The four of us plus Kris, we can do this.

- No way, absolutely not.

Tanner cannot be involved.

Okay, you weren't there today.

I mean, she was unhinged.

I say if we do anything at all,
it's just the four of us.

- Well, where's Kris right now, Sarge?

She's with Janet and Kevin at the hideout,

told them not to leave her
alone until they hear from us.

(gentle music)

- Okay, so two large drinks, an apple pie,

a cherry pie, napkins,
forks, knives, anything else?

- That should do it, thanks.

- Okay, I'd say give me 15 minutes

but I wanna make sure
I'm not being followed.

access to Tomlinson's calls?

- I do, thanks to a warrant
and a few backdoor apps.

(person sighing)

- I'd rather not without
our FBI friends present.

(door knocking)

(door creaking)

Hannah, what are you doing here?

- So this is the big time
federal investigation,

alone with her.

- That's not something I
think anybody should wanna do.

- Well some people belong there.

But thoughts like that,
they'll just punish you.

Won't comfort you.

- Well, I don't find comfort

in much these days, so
forgive me for trying.

- Forgive, huh?

That's a heavy word.

Forgiveness is something
we seem to want more

for ourselves than we're
willing to give to others.

- Okay, Reverend Travis.

Look, I'm not saying something

doesn't need to happen to
Tomlinson. It does, but

if you grasp what hell was really like

and you believed it's a real place,

you wouldn't be asking
how to send people there.

You'd be asking how to
keep them from going.

You deserve so much worse

than a bad hip for what you did to Shane.

- Shane was a deadbeat.

He was a loser, I did him a favor.

- You really want me

- If you're gonna do it, do it.

Maybe a couple years you can join us.

I really don't care anymore.

- Kris, don't, we got him.

- When you guys are done,

lot of pain right now.

This is not the answer.

Killing him is not the answer.

It's not gonna bring you peace.

It's okay.

I know you want to be
free from the pain, so did I.

But I promise you there's hope.

but I've actually got a few
things in mind for the future.
