-You got excited backstage

when you heard talented.
-Yes, super excited.

Because there is a man backstage
who says,

like you need to walk in.
-You need to walk in.

And he got nervous
because I started walking away

and he went,

-Yeah.
-You're gonna miss the beat.

-Isn't it funny though,
And I feel like nobody here,

it's very obvious where to walk.

-When the door opens,

I'm thinking, "That's a cue."
-Yeah.

We have a lot of conversation
backstage for a thing

that almost anybody --
-I like them. They're good.

Yeah. Oh, they're very good,
yeah.

-They also make you feel
smart and fun.

-[ Laughing ] Yeah.
-Even if you're not.

-It's really good.

-You've worked in many genres.

and yet recently a lot
of sci-fi.

Are you someone
who's drawn to it as a genre?

-Only. It's all I do.

-Yeah.
-Yeah.

Post-Apoca -- apocalyptic.
-[ Laughs ]

-Post-apocalyptic,
that's a hard one.

-Yeah.
-Yeah. Sorry. Silo is great.

And...
-It is great. And it's a book.

-I read the books.
-You did?!

-I love the books.
I love the show.

I'm very excited for season two.

-I'm excited I meet --
-Whoo!

-Yeah.

It's really fun.
-It's good.

I do like it.

-But, you know --

real exciting thing.

Because fun is fun.

It's -- It is sci-fi-esque.

But I think the point is
it's in the future.

But actually it's like crime
and it's relationship

and it's scary
and it's awkward.

And it's --
-Yeah, all good sci-fi

is basically just a frame

over the stuff
we're dealing with now.

-So when you say,
"Do you like sci-fi?"

And I go, you know,
weirdly enough,

every bloody film I've done
recently is some form of sci-fi.

I don't know, maybe that's
just the best, right?

-But also, it all
works because it's grounded.

It's not just like,
you know, jetpacks --

-Is it though?
-I think so.

-I mean, in the last film,
there's a big worm.

-Yeah.
-You know?

-I will say -- Can I say it?
-Yeah.

-And I know it's in the books.

The worm's not my favorite part.
-Really?

-Yeah.
-Well, you have a hoot coming.

Because you're actually so --

that interested

so for people who don't know,

like, it's about a society
that's living in a silo.

-Yes.
-And you are in real life.

You suffer from claustrophobia.

This is an
incredibly claustrophobic show.

Now, I know, obviously,
it's a movie set.

You're not actually
inside a silo.

-No problem there.
-No problem there?

-I am very claustrophobic.

-Has it been your whole life?

-It's a real problem.
-Or is it something that

it developed later?

-It did --
It did develop more

when I did a --
We call it a life cast.

So you do, um --
-Oh, yeah. Of course.

-You're in a movie.

And they need to do --
-And they need to do a --

For the people who don't know,

is if you got to do like

if they have to do prosthetics
or anything,

they have to do a whole --

I've never done the full body.

-I do feel
like we're racing through this.

they say cut and we're done,

Everything we're
ever going to do is a beginning.

And that's it.

-But what I was saying is

I have always --

No I haven't been stuck
in an elevator,

I didn't have --

My child was quite tough,

but not that tough.

-A lot of love.

Um, but I just couldn't
bear people lying on top of you

or holding you down and
tickling you and control stuff.

It's a lot of therapy to go,
you know?

-Yeah.
-Can't be arsed really.

-But then with all those things.
-A lot of drug.

-But I'm clean now.
-And then they head --

Then they had casted you.
-And then they head caste me.

That was like a trigger?
-They put --

[ Scoffs ] Was it?
-Yeah.

You -- Basically, they put lots
of like gel and latex

and it's thick and they cover
your ears and your eyes

and you have tiny straws
for your nose.

And I said,
I'm really claustrophobic.

And he was like,
"Don't worry, trust me."

"Trust me"
means [bleep] all...

[ Laughter ]

...from now on to me.
-Yeah, right.

-It means nothing.

All of a sudden it solidifies,
great word.

And I said it, solidify.
-Yeah.

-Landed it.
-Landed it.

-Yeah.
-Yeah.

-Whoo!
-And it's -- Thank you.

It's not even worth it.

-You know what? Can I --

-But my point is,
I needed to get it off.

And I started panicking,
and I started sweating,

and I couldn't get --
I couldn't get it off.

And I realized
that if I blinked,

I could get my fingers
into my eyeballs.

[ Laughter ]

I mean, literally.

And I managed to pull it off
and they said,

"No, no, we're just about
to put the cast on."

So they were about to cast.
They cast --

Cast like when you've broken...
-Yeah. Yep.

They cast your head in...

and then they chisel it out.

-I might be
claustrophobic now...

[ Laughter ]

...just from hearing this story
about your --

-Dude, I woke up for the last.

It's not a laughing matter.

But I woke...
-[ Man laughs ]

[ Laughter ]

These shows just don't work...
-I -- I know.

who laughed.

-Yeah. Good.

That's the kind of guy he is.

I'm in your room there

putting my mic on

I need to have every door open.

as I have to walk up.

you've had to walk up due
to the elevator thing?

And they sent it back home
and said,

My little 6-year-old.

it looks -- It's amazing.

-Well, then it is appropriate.

I didn't know it opened.

Is it true you stole
some rocks from a desert?

-Oh, my gosh, thank you.

-You're welcome.

-So I was in the desert.

-Uh-huh.
-Filming "Dune."

-Sure.
-And then I stole --

So in the sand in the desert.

Because of the wind,

they create these incredible
circular shapes.

I was going to say balls,
but it just sounds weird.

But anyway,
circular shaped stones.

And I thought,
this is such a lovely gift.

I can put them
and just make things.

And then someone said to me, a,
uh, I'd say Bedouin,

but a local man said,
"Very bad juju."

-Okay.
-"If you steal from the desert."

-Oh, interesting.
-And it is interesting.

And I ran home and I got them.

And the next day I put them back
because I got really nervous.

[ Laughter ]

-Really?
-Yes.

-And you think it's
good luck to steal a skull?

-Yeah. Don't care.
-Yeah. Don't care about that.

-Handmade nature
made difference.

-Oh, right. Nature made.
You got to return the nature.

-Also, if a guy
who comes from the desert

and is from the area goes,

"That's bad juju."
Right.

-You put that thing back.
-You put it back.

Was it important to put
it back

where you found it?

-On the spot.

Thank God we went back
the same day.

-But do you feel like you did?

I mean, because I would guess --
