=Episode 25=

Take Wei Zhan Hong

and await trial.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty!

Yan,

I order you to investigate the case thoroughly.

Wei Zhan Hong will be handed over

to your Prefecture Court for interrogation and custody.

Investigate and verify the ledger after you find it.

If Grand Commandant Sang is not involved in this matter,

he should be released as soon as possible.

I shall obey your orders.

Your Majesty,

I have a presumptuous request.

It's about the marriage bestowal.

This marriage

is my grace to Miss Su.

If you want to change it,

Miss Su must first agree to it.

I'm exhausted.

You're dismissed.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Qi.

Deputy Chief,

don't be hasty.

We'll find a way.

Thank you, Official Yan.

My father's case is finally overturned.

Too bad we don't know who's the mastermind.

It's expected.

If Zhuo Wen Yuan were the mastermind,

he wouldn't

expose himself this easily.

There are many ways to hide.

I've indeed taught him well.

It must be hard on you

when he humiliated you in public that day.

Qi,

even if it's dangerous,

I'll have no regrets

for you

and your father.

By the way,

when did you think of this strategy?

What's all this about?

Qi,

with me around,

I'll find ways to save Grand Commandant Sang.

Even if His Majesty has granted me a marriage,

I'll never be apart from you.

Are you going to defy His Majesty's order?

Unless...

Unless what?

Unless we take risks.

You want to...

We've searched the whole of Bianjing,

but there's no trace of Wei Zhan Hong at all.

Do you think

he's inside Zhuo's Residence?

Zhuo Wen Yuan showed me around his mansion before.

I felt strange at the time.

Why would there be so many guards

at a civil official's residence?

Those guards are obviously

martial arts practitioners

who are skilled.

If they're not guarding against something,

they must

be guarding someone important.

But what if this is what Zhuo Wen Yuan

wants you to see?

What if Wei Zhan Hong is not there?

Won't you be in danger then?

But we have no other way now.

If we don't do this,

my father...

No.

I can't let you take the risk.

I promise.

I promise I'll come back safely.

As long as our strategy works,

there shouldn't be any problems.

If we really decide to do this,

the plan must be thorough.

There must be no mistake at all.

Let's think about it again.

All right.

(That's how)

(Sang Qi and I came up with a plan to trick everyone.)

(We let Zhuo Wen Yuan thought his plan had worked)

(and Sang Qi had no way out.)

(When I entered Zhuo's Residence the second time,)

(I carefully observed the layout of the courtyard.)

(I noticed there were guards at the back entrance)

(and a maid delivering food.)

(I guess Wei Zhan Hong may be hiding in the backyard.)

You want me to marry Zhuo Wen Yuan in your place?

Why?

Isn't this your wish?

I'm the daughter of the Grand Tutor.

Why would I marry someone sneakily?

Besides,

why should I help you?

Do it

for your sincerity towards Zhuo Wen Yuan.

Think about it.

This may be the only chance

for you to marry into the Zhuo family as the legal wife.

It only happens once in a blue moon.

Jia Yin,

to get close to Deputy Chief Yan back then,

you didn't hesitate to be run over by a horse carriage.

Don't you want to do anything for Zhuo Wen Yuan?

It doesn't matter what method you used

to make him yours.

The outcome is what matters.

Don't you think so?

I thought Miss Song

is bold in love

and decisive.

It turns out

you're an indecisive person too.

Forget it, then.

I'll just marry Zhuo Wen Yuan.

But you must know this.

If I married into the Zhuo family,

you could only be a concubine.

You...

Wait!

Why should I be the concubine?

Fine, I'll do what you asked.

Tell me.

What do you want me to do?

Great.

Now, this is the demeanor Miss Song should possess.

Let's sit down and talk.

(After convincing Song Jia Yin,)

(we were one step away)

(from our plan to be successful.)

(Sang Qi and I)

(were closely monitored by Zhuo Wen Yuan.)

(The night before the wedding,)

(we played a farewell drama.)

(While Zhuo Wen Yuan was deluded,)

(Sang Qi took the chance to give me the map of Zhuo's Residence)

(and the evacuation route after the operation.)

(So I could arrange reinforcement)

(to coordinate from outside the mansion.)

(Prison Room)

Watch your step.

All right.

Yan Yan.

I have something to entrust you.

You sober up pretty quickly.

Is it convenient to talk in your residence?

Is it?

Let's go.

Come on now!

Deputy Chief!

Hey...

(I asked Yan Yan to lead people to feign an attack on Zhuo's Residence)

(and ordered Bai Shi to pretend to take the chance to sneak in)

(to divert the guards' attention in the mansion.)

(Meanwhile, I stopped the wedding procession)

(Happiness) (to hold them up as long as possible.)

(Candle Shop)

(Here comes the best part.)

(Happiness)

(On the wedding day,)

(Song Jia Yin got into the palanquin in my place.)

(Zhuo Wen Yuan only focused)

(on Deputy Chief, Yan Yan, and the rest.)

(Just like that,)

(I sneaked into Zhuo's Residence to take Wei Zhan Hong away.)

There's someone on the roof!

Hurry!

- This way! - Over here!

- Bring the ladder! - Where did he go?

Coming!

(Wait a minute.)

(You brought Wei Zhan Hong out by yourself?)

Hurry!

(Yan San Lang,)

(why do you have to get to the bottom of it?)

After him!

(Fine,)

(I had a helper.)

Go quickly!

Time to go.

Hurry!

Qi Lang,

Sang Qi,

both of you had put up a great show.

Both of you

should show your performance on stage.

Maybe you two can become famous actor and actress in Bianjing.

San Lang is usually a serious person.

Now, he knows how to make jokes.

The most important thing to do

is to find that ledger now.

That way, my father can return home quickly.

Official Yan,

let me join in your operation.

It's okay.

I'll take Wei Zhan Hong back to the Prefecture Court first.

After everything is prepared,

I'll track down the ledger.

You and Qi Lang have been exerting yourselves all day.

Go back and rest early.

But...

Qi,

don't worry.

San Lang is reliable in his work.

Just leave it to him.

I'll leave it to you then, Official Yan.

It's our job at the Prefecture Court anyway.

I'll take my leave, then.

Let's go.

Come on.

If this matter is really related to Zhuo Wen Yuan,

will he let it slide?

About Wei Zhan Hong falsely accusing Grand Commandant Sang,

I'm at fault.

I never expected

Wei Zhan Hong to have such malicious intent

to cause a disturbance in the imperial court.

I believed his words

because we used to be schoolmates.

I thought he was treated unjustly.

As for the salt smuggling,

no matter what,

it was because of me.

I ask that Your Majesty punish me for my crime.

Are you

willing to be punished?

Yes, I am.

This is a grave matter.

If Your Majesty doesn't punish me for my crime,

be it feelings or reason,

it'll be unfair.

Your Majesty!

Zhuo Wen Yuan carelessly

committed this crime

because the cunning person deluded him.

Please consider the fact that he's young

and loyal to the imperial court.

I beg Your Majesty not to punish him severely.

Oh, my dear.

My dear,

what are you doing?

Get up quickly.

Get up.

Crying isn't good for you.

My dear.

I never said I was going to punish him.

Come on, get up.

Zhuo Wen Yuan just set foot in the official circle.

He's still inexperienced

and it's understandable.

Besides,

nothing serious happened.

So stop crying.

Zhuo, rise.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Remember

to be more cautious

as an official in the future.

I'll do my best

to live up to Your Majesty's expectation.

Thank you for Your Majesty's grace.

Enough.

If you fall ill from this,

I'll be so worried.

You caused so much trouble

because of the daughter of the Sang family.

Is this what you meant by everything ready?

I'm so disappointed in you.

Aunt,

I was indeed careless this time.

Now that Wei Zhan Hong has changed his testimony

and told them about the ledger.

What are you going to do

if it leads Yan San Lang to us?

Aunt, rest assured.

Official Wei

only plays an insignificant role in Xizhao.

The ledger

shouldn't lead directly to us.

But to make sure nothing goes wrong,

I'll take care

of the ledger.

I'll never let them have the chance.

This time,

there must be no mistakes.

Fortunately, Wei Zhan Hong doesn't know your real identity.

Otherwise, we wouldn't know what to do.

His Majesty is an affectionate person.

He didn't punish you for my sake.

But if this matter gets out,

some ministers in court will be dissatisfied with you.

By the way,

the servant reported

that Song Jia Yin is still at your residence.

How are you going to handle this matter?

I plan to accept this marriage

and form an alliance with the Song family

to tightly hold on to Grand Tutor Song.

That way,

the Zhuo and the Song families will fall and rise together.

Grand Tutor Song will certainly do his best to help us in the future.

Sit.

You did well

in this matter.

Originally,

I wanted to persuade you

to put aside your obsession with Miss Sang.

It looks like I worried for nothing.

Wen Yuan,

you shouldn't keep thinking about Sang Qi.

It's impossible

for both of you.

What do you mean by this?

At this point,

I might as well tell you.

Aunt!

(Two years ago)

What's wrong?

Did you fail your task?

No, I didn't.

What does that mean?

When I went to take the list from the apothecary,

someone took the list by accident.

But I got it back.

Who took it by mistake?

(Touch of Spring)

Mister, here are your medicinal herbs.

Thank you.

(Name list: Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Personnel, Ministry of Revenue)

He happened to get the medicinal herbs

and accidentally confused the prescription with the list.

Sang Yu?

Did he read the contents?

When I asked for the list,

Sang Yu said something strange to me.

He might have read the contents.

Don't worry about it.

I know Sang Yu well.

He's a sickly person

who doesn't meddle in other people's affairs.

Don't worry.

But you must be careful

when you carry out your tasks in the future, okay?

Go home now.

It's already late.

I'll take my leave.

Did Sang Yu

die because of me?

It's his fate.

No one is to be blamed.

Wei Zhan Hong's matter has been exposed.

It's also impossible to pull the Sang family to our side now.

I'm telling you these,

so you'll know

that we'll have a fallout with the Sang family sooner or later.

It's better to take precautions.

I understand.

Darling,

We just got married.

Why is the Ministry of Personnel so inconsiderate?

Why is she here?

Miss Qian Jiu is my guest.

She'll stay here temporarily.

Greetings, Mrs. Zhuo.

Zhuo Wen Yuan, what is the meaning of this?

We just got married

and you brought your mistress home.

Are you humiliating me on purpose?

Don't you understand what I said?

Qian Jiu is a guest.

You're the Madam of the Zhuo family.

You should mind your words.

Mrs. Zhuo,

I've known Mr. Zhuo for years.

I'm both his friend and confidant.

It's perfectly reasonable for me to be a guest here.

There's no need to be angry.

You have no right to speak here.

Who's there?

Let's go!

(Ma Chang Xing)

How dare you!

Surrender yourselves now!

You can't escape now!

So don't waste time resisting!

They were indeed a gang of desperadoes.

Luckily, Qi Lang told us to be prepared.

It's a pity there's no survivor.

Otherwise, we could have found some clues.

It's okay.

Qi Lang is an expert coroner.

He'll definitely find a way.

All you do is wearing that sad face

and not even talking to me.

I think you brought me back here

not only to upset Song Jia Yin.

I know

you're upset that Sang Qi set up

a plot against you.

It doesn't concern you.

Doesn't it?

I knew you had selfish motives when you said

you wanted to set up the Sang family

as your scapegoat.

But I still escorted

Wei Zhan Hong back secretly all the way here.

In the end,

you only used him as a bargaining chip.

As long as Sang Qi is willing to marry you,

you'll disregard the overall situation

and rescue Sang Wei.

Am I right?

Not only did you fail to marry Sang Qi as planned,

but you also brought trouble for yourself.

To save his life, Wei Zhan Hong told them about the ledger.

The Wei family is closely acquainted with Xizhao.

If things come to light,

everyone we planted in Bianjing,

including me,

can never escape.

Are you blaming me now?

I was complaining, that's all.

After going through all these things,

you must know

that I'm the only one who's sincere towards you.

What are childhood friends

and growing up together?

Only you remember all these.

Sang Qi never cared about those.

Mr. Zhuo,

I hope you know

that I can give you

what Sang Qi can't give.

Come in.

Didn't you get it?

Our men were ambushed.

The ledger is in Yan Yun Zhi's hand now.

Any survivors?

There shouldn't be any.

You don't have to worry.

My men are loyal warriors.

Even if they're captured alive, they'd never confess.

The ledger is now in his possession.

Will he be able to find out anything?

Do you have any plans?

At this point,

we mustn't cause any trouble.

We can only act accordingly now.

Do you still remember

how I taught you

in examining the body in Law class?

You can practice it now.

I used to be the corpse all the time.

I may not remember some of it now.

But you never

experimented with real corpses before.

It's not enough to learn from the text.

Today, I'll make up this lesson for you.

Don't be nervous.

Pretend it's a class.

You can do it.

As long as we can find the mastermind,

we can seek justice for my brother

and stop those villains in Xizhao

from doing evil.

I'm ready now.

Let's begin.

Deputy Chief,

things have finally made some progress.

What's next?

We must not alert the enemies yet.

It still needs careful planning.

Understood.

(Qingxin Hall)

Qi Lang.

Qi Lang,

I found something from the ledger.

Let's talk inside.

All right.

(Qingxin Hall)

(Transactions)

In the ledger,

there's a record of a land transaction.

This plot of land happens to be

the apothecary Sang Yu got his prescription before the accident.

After Sang Yu's accident,

this apothecary had changed a few owners

until it fell under Official Wei's name.

I led some men to Official Wei's old residence the same night

and met those involved in the land's transactions.

But we found nothing.

Only Zhang Xiu Ping, who sold the land to Official Wei,

does not exist.

You mean

this "Zhang Xiu Ping" may know something?

She came into contact with Official Wei before.

So there might be some clues there.

Of course,

we don't rule out that this person is suspicious.

But there's no such person

in the household register.

We couldn't find anything at all.

This person must have used a fake name.

Deputy Chief,

we can try the archive.

The archive?

When I was organizing the archive,

not only there are about the imperial courts and official residence,

there were also local tabloids and chronicles.

These things may have some information.

Let's waste no time.

We'll head to the archive now.

Why don't you let me go?

You haven't slept all night.

This concerns my father's innocence

and my brother's case.

I feel more assured doing this myself.

San Lang,

you have something more important to do.

(Qingxin Hall) (Remember the day we examined the body?)

(We found...)

(Gathering of Scholars)

(Zhang Xiu Ping)

Did I wake you?

How did I fall asleep?

I had a dream.

I dreamed you left me.

Silly.

Why would I leave you?

You're too exhausted.

That's why you had such a dream.

If you're tired, rest for a while

to gather your energy.

Investigating is not a day's work.

How can I sleep when the matter regarding Xizhao

is not settled yet?

Deputy Chief.

Manager Sang,

what are you doing here?

We're looking up some ancient classics.

So that we can make some plans for future enrollment.

Manager Sang,

I heard that Grand Commandant Sang's case is about to close.

You can just wait at home for Grand Commandant Sang.

As for the new enrollment,

there's no need to rush.

It's better to make early preparations.

(Zhang Xiu Ping)

Is this...

(Zhang Xiu Ping) Is this the female student you wanted to enroll?

Scholar Feng, do you know her?

I don't think so.

(Gathering of Scholars)

This girl

and an old friend of mine

have the same name.

Scholar Feng, who is this old friend of yours?

It's all in the past.

I'd rather not talk about it.

Just get back to your work.

I'm here to get a book.

Scholar Feng,

I'd like to know

who this old friend of yours is

and where she is now.

Is this important?

- Yes.

Why do you young people

have to force me?

Who had never done anything ridiculous

when they were young?

Fine, I'll tell you.

Zhang Xiu Ping

is Madam Zhang.

Madam Zhang of Qingfeng Restaurant?

Scholar Feng, are you certain?

I'm already old

and don't remember things clearly.

But I'll never forget

Zhang Xiu Ping.

(Zhuo's Residence)

I just found out

Qian Jiu has moved into Zhuo's Residence.

Madam Zhang was serving as her attendant

and moved in along.

What role does Madam Zhang play

in Xizhao?

Is she Qian Jiu's subordinate?

Qi Lang,

why don't we capture and interrogate her?

Don't act rashly.

We need more evidence.

All right,

I'll send our men to keep a close watch on Madam Zhang.

I hope we'll find something.

If she makes any move,

let me know right away.

All right.

Zhuo Wen Yuan seems pretty calm, though.

He's ignoring the matter

since the ledger doesn't lead to the Zhuo family.

Someone was following me when I went out yesterday.

I think they're from the Prefecture Court.

They may have found something from the ledger.

Qian Jiu,

we must make our plans.

We can't rely on the Zhuo family anymore.

If we're exposed,

how would that benefit Mr. Zhuo?

We're on the same boat.

Are you worried too much?

After working together for so many years,

the Zhuo family benefits more than us.

Now, Zhuo Wen Yuan is with the Ministry of Personnel

and joins forces with the Song family.

He may no longer need our help in the future.

In the eyes of the Zhuo family,

we're just like chicken ribs.

It's tasteless, but it's a pity to throw it away.

We might be disposed of if we no longer serve any purpose.

We must defend ourselves.

Qian Jiu,

you've always been reliable.

So I've always felt assured.

But when it comes to Zhuo Wen Yuan,

you keep getting confused.

You're falling deeper now.

If you have

to choose between Zhuo Wen Yuan and me one day,

you won't turn your back on me, right?

I wouldn't dare.

I'll never forget

the kindness you've shown me.

I'll never betray Xizhao

or you.

I'll follow you everywhere you go.

You're finally home.

What have you been doing all day?

Why don't you care about the marriage bestowal?

You even made Lan came to rush personally.

That's outrageous.

Madam, it's okay.

I'm only visiting under my parents' order.

We don't mean to rush the wedding.

Look

how sensible Lan is.

She's such a great daughter-in-law.

What are you still waiting for?

All right, then.

Both of you should discuss

and set the date quickly.

If His Majesty asks about the wedding,

the Yan family can at least answer.

Yun Zhi,

are you still busy with the Sang family recently?

Yes.

If this case isn't solved for one day,

are you planning to delay this matter?

Lan, stop forcing me.

We've known each other for many years.

I'm sure you know what kind of person I am.

In this life,

I'll only marry Sang Qi.

Stop wasting time on me.

Do you want to defy His Majesty's order?

Our wedding

is His Majesty's grace.

His Majesty only bestows the marriage.

He didn't set any date.

It's not considered as defying His Majesty.

Yun Zhi...

Bai Shi.

Yes.

It suddenly occurred to me that there was another doubtful point in the case.

Prepare the horse.

All right.

Miss Su, I'll take my leave.

Lan,

I have official duty to settle.

Make yourself at home.

Except for the land deal at the apothecary,

there's no other useful information.

Did we miss anything?

Let me check it again.

You must be tired.

I'm okay.

I don't need you to serve me.

I wasn't serving you.

When I'm tired next time,

you'll have to massage me too.

All right.

You look down when you return.

Did your family rush you about the wedding?

Let's put that aside.

What matters now

is dealing with Xizhao.

But fortunately,

(Transaction) everything on this ledger

doesn't involve Grand Commandant Sang.

After this matter is over,

Grand Commandant will go home.

Deputy Chief,

if we can't find anything

from this ledger,

with this land transaction alone,

can we really lure Xizhao out?

Target the vital point.

We must catch the head of Xizhao first.
