With fish that glow In the dark.

There are tears and laughs.

And clients that gasp.

Join us as we look back At our favorite aquariums

In "Tanked: Playing favorites."

This is the nicest tank That we've ever built.

Wayde: I'm wayde king.

Brett: I'm brett raymer.

We're two new yorkers Who moved to las vegas

To follow our dreams...

To create underwater worlds Like no one's ever seen.

Surprise! Surprise!

Our family is the number-one Aquarium builder in the world.

I was forced Into this relationship.

I married brett's sister.

Brett: And my dad runs operations.

We call him "The general."

With our favorite Elderly employee.

Yeah, you know what they say -- Age before beauty.

What's your favorite tank? That's easy.

Coney island.

We managed to turn this consult Into a family trip

To our original family home,

And that's why It's my favorite tank.

This is where You met mommy.

That was 1972.

Me and coney island Go way back.

In 1948, my mother and my aunt Took me down here,

And they lost me.

I was with a police officer.

20 years later, I was That same police officer.

I met my wife On that corner.

We would've been married For 40 years in june.

Tears came to my eyes 'cause you know what?

I never... Yeah.

I can't... That's all right.

But you know what? It's good to be back.

Yeah. Coney island.

You know what? It's good Memories, good memories.

That visit back to coney island Was really overwhelming for me.

I was flooded With happy family memories.

I had to snap you out Of your trip down memory lane.

Wayde: what do you guys want To do on the inside?

You know, our tag line is, America's favorite neighbor.

Something, some way to tie it Into the community

And the local area Here at coney.

Brett: yeah, check out the view And see what comes to mind.

Heather: oh, my god.

Wow, This is unbelievable.

I used to ride that when I was a kid all the time.

It was my favorite ride.

We should put the wonder wheel In there.

That's, like, The center attraction.

It's right in the middle!

You're forgetting, like, The most historic landmark,

The parachute jump.

Got to have The parachute jump.

Everyone was so excited About their ideas,

But it took a man of my wisdom And experience

To put them all together Into something great.

Why don't we put the cyclone,

The wonder wheel, And the parachute jump in?

Well, now we know Where brett gets it.

It's because the apple is Too lazy to walk any further.

I pulled out all the stops,

And then it was up to the guys

To pull off This coney island tank.

We built a 20-foot-long Racetrack tank

Featuring three of Coney island's famous staples --

The parachute jump, the Wonder wheel, and the cyclone.

This aquatic amusement park

Is home to sharks And other thrill-seeking fish.

I know you guys did us all proud

And built a tank To atm standards.

But I'd like To just skip ahead

To our second trip To coney island

And its installation.

[ horn honks ]

Heather: how is this truck Even gonna fit in here?

Yo, wait. Wait a minute. I want you to know something.

I was a cop In this precinct.

What can I do for you? Can I block the street?

As a matter of fact, yeah, You can block the street off.

These are my boys, The 6-0 precinct!

What, are you kidding me Or what?

We're remembering Our favorite tanks.

Next up is agnes' favorite.

Since I work in sales, I usually Am the first person at atm

That clients talk to About a project.

Hi, mr. Summer. How are you?

But then it stops there and Gets handed off to the guys.

You guys have the minus5° Ice bar consult today.

But on one tank, I got to be hands-on

Through the entire process All because brett made a mistake

And double-booked Their consultations.

We need you guys to actually Pack your bags and fly.

Oh, my god.

Just talk to her And take some measurements.

Do not give her any ideas Or anything like.

No promises And no shopping!

Agnes: I don't even care That we were the last resort.

I was just excited For the opportunity.

Agnes: this is gonna be The best!

Heather: hi!

You must be deb. I am.

Agnes. Very nice to meet you.

So, tell us What you're looking for.

Well, I have this crazy idea

To do a fish tank centered Around our company.

Well, you found The right people!

We manage single-family homes, Townhomes, condos, duplexes,

So kind of like Communities.

We were naturals.

We came up With a brilliant idea

To build a whole village Of condos.

Little trees. Yeah.

Let's take some measurements, Heather.

9 feet to the floor.

Wait, isn't it gonna go On that wall?

Why are you measuring --

Well, I just want to take The whole area.

Wow. So, 9 feet.

That's got to be The same, right?

Okay, so, you got To go this way.

[ laughter ]

Put it in! Wait!

You guys aren't actually Building the tanks, right?

Yes, luckily for you, We don't actually build.

We just come up With the ideas.

Heather: when we go back to atm, We sold the guys on our idea

For three tanks connected By tubing

That the fish can go through.

All sorts of friendly fish Inhabit the tank,

And they visit each other From one house to the next.

Agnes: final touches include Roofs and realistic corals,

Making this little Aquatic city spectacular.

Agnes: Before I knew it,

The guys had the shop Bringing my vision to life.

Your vision made This build more complicated.

This one here I would say Somewhere in this area.

Redneck: Somewhere in that area?

So, we want to kind of Make these look like

Three different, Unique buildings.

So, we're talking Three individual rooftops...

Yes. ...That look different.

And different pitches On the roof? Things like that?

Yeah, exactly. Okay.

Even though we had no plans To grab a sander or a saw,

We wanted to leave our prints On the tank.

I mean, we couldn't deliver An unfinished condo, right?

What'd you get?

I got adorable furniture For theming.

Reminds me of when We were playing dollhouse!

Right?! Let me see.

Oh, my god, Can we do it now?

Yeah, we're gonna go stick Them in.

You have time To do it now?

Yeah, while they're not, Like, around.

Oh, my god, Those are so cute!

Do you love it?

You know, the guys Are lucky to have us

With these cool ideas.

That is so cozy!

Now, you need to put this one Right there --

The little play area.

Heather, you know Your chest is upside down!

Our idea was that each section Of coral

Would have furniture Representing a room in a home --

A nursery, a kitchen, A living room.

And once we placed them all,

We'd have to make the pieces Fish-safe.

[ gasps ] Redneck: excuse me.

What are you doing To my inserts?

We're theming! We're theming them!

What, did you girls go out And buy this stuff?

Yeah. It's gonna be Like a house.

You have a living room And a dining room.

It looks like you're Selling baby furniture.

We definitely got to rethink This whole idea.

This looks like you went down The yellow brick road

And a tornado hit the place. Look at it.

Really? You don't like Our little living area?

Is this what you discussed With the client?

We think deb Is gonna like it.

Yeah, we're pretty sure She's gonna love it.

Into the final aquarium Either.

I'm still glad We went for it.

Yeah, and wayde's idea For the outside

Was pretty good, too.

Wayde: gonna dress it up With, like, roofs on it.

We're gonna have A railroad track

Going around With a train.

Oh, I like The railroad track.

All right, let's decorate The whole outside.

Agnes: we cleaned and packed The inserts,

Then packed our girl power

And headed out with the guys To the installation.

No way we were missing out On this part.

Agnes: this was My first installation,

And there was no time To waste,

So we jumped right in To help out.

Go. Ready?

[ grunts ] Wait!

Wait, Now I don't have it good!

Oh, go on that side. I had it.

Girls, stop playing around.

We're not playing -- Move, let go.

At least we tried to help out.

It looks phenomenal.

So, you have 3 tanks here, Approximately 300 gallons.

It's actually one aquarium,

But it looks like Three separate aquariums.

And they're all connected By a square tube.

The fish can actually Swim through

From one side To the next.

That is so cool.

I could get high rent For all of this.

Yay! It's great.

Agnes: awesome.

She loved it. I knew she would.

What's next? I'm ready.

I knew right away That this next tank

Was gonna be my favorite.

Not only was I The project manager

On the entire thing... [ scoffs ]

There's a first time For everything.

...It housed some incredible Creatures -- predators.

It started with the gerardis, A family with six boys,

That threw us an interesting Tank challenge.

We'd like a large shark tank. That would be perfect.

What about gators? Sharks and gators?

You didn't even have to Come up with a crazy idea

In this one.

Yeah, that's why It's my favorite,

'cause You can't blame me.

We can build you One huge aquarium

And then put a divider In there.

One side of the water Would be salt water.

The other side Would be freshwater.

It's not gonna be easy, But we can definitely do it.

Wayde was a little freaked out

By the idea of two species In one tank,

So I had to ease him into it With my gator knowledge.

I know a lot About alligators.

Like what?

What do you call an alligator Wearing a vest?

What?

An investigator.

Okay, that was pretty bad, But I stepped up.

I had no choice with This difficult of a build.

The predator tank we built Is 10 feet long

And features two tanks in one.

It's divided into salt water And freshwater,

Each with different Filtration systems.

It's home to gators on one side And sharks on the other.

For this tank, we knew We wanted rescue gators,

And we knew exactly Who to call to get them.

Gator boys! [ laughs ]

What's up?

What's going on, man? Good to see you.

Paul and jimmy Are our good friends

Who trap nuisance alligators and Bring them to a safe location.

They introduced us to papa gator

At his indoor Alligator attraction.

So we could get A close-up crash course

And talk about getting gators For our tank.

All right, here we go.

Now, wait, wait, wait. Let me say hi to this guy.

How you doing?

Thank you so much For hooking us up, guys.

This is -- This is awesome.

Hey, nothing better than a shark And an alligator tank, though.

Explain this place to us.

I got the world's only

Upstairs, indoor Alligator attraction.

We got 50 gators,

Anywhere from 7 inches To going on 8 feet.

Jimmy: today, You guys are in luck.

You're gonna have hands-on With an alligator.

I've loved gators Since I was a kid.

Bob: we can go play With chompers.

All right, let's do it. Let's go.

You're all right, Buddy.

[ hissing ] Hey.

I was all about getting up close To an alligator.

The most dangerous thing You can do

When an alligator gets on land

Is get in between him And his water.

That's kind of a safety zone.

Stay closer to the water He said.

[ laughter ]

Sit down right between His back legs.

There you go.

Tape on the jaws And hold on.

Brett: gators have powerful Muscles that close their jaws,

But the ones that open them Are weak.

That's why it's pretty easy To hold their mouth closed

Without hurting them.

Wayde: Brett, you all right?

You're getting scared, Brett.

But knowing that Didn't make it any less scary.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

Dude, the knees. I got bad knees.

Man, that was so cool Being in --

Now that we wrestled them,

It was time to pick out Some gators for our tank.

Bob: so, now we got huey, Dewey, and louie.

They can't just Float around?

When you're in the water, You wrinkle up too much.

So they need to come out And dry off?

They need to dry off.

These guys -- probably just A little too small for you.

We have adolescents Over here.

And they're fast,

And their bite force, they Could take your hand off.

Our clients Like aggressive.

Yeah, they also like Their hands.

Yeah, those didn't work.

Bob: might be a little bit Too big for your tank.

Yeah, they're definitely -- They're definitely too big.

All right, well, let me show you Some 2- and 3-year-olds.

Paul: there you go.

Some of them Are aggressive.

Yeah, that's probably What you want.

I would say Two of these.

Brett: give me That little guy back there.

One over in the corner -- That's fluffy.

Fluffy looks good.

Fluffy -- those six boys Are gonna love him.

Nah, I already Renamed him -- crunch!

We'll take fluffy. We'll take nubby.

Nubby's great, man. And we'll take goldie.

All right, well, That's great.

While we shopped for gators In florida,

The shop had cranked The tank out.

All we had to do was check up On a few things.

Well, make sure that thing Is glued good 'cause remember,

This side is gonna be Freshwater.

This side's gonna be Salt water.

So if that's Any leak at all,

It's gonna get from one Into the other.

I can tell this tank Is one of your favorites.

You even worked hard On the installation.

Yeah, I took my role As project manager

Pretty seriously.

Brett: please start that up, Please.

Let's go. Come on. Chop, chop.

Yes, boss.

It was pretty nice that You stepped back on that job

And let me boss Everybody around.

They're good. Straight.

Yeah, You were great at it!

This is A really cool shark.

It's a banded cat shark.

Wayde: look at the markings On this guy.

Yeah, He's really nice.

This one's One of my favorites, dude.

Smooth-hound -- This is gonna be the swimmer.

Look. He's definitely feisty.

There he goes.

All right, Last but not least...

The shovelnose.

Wow. He's a nice size.

Look at him. Yeah.

Everything was done Except for the gators.

Papa gator -- he came To put them in the tank.

Brett: what's up, guys? How you doing?

Look at these guys.

His gators are on loan To the gerardi family,

And he's responsible For the care and feeding.

Wayde: oh, he's happy. Look at that guy.

Wow. Look at that. That is awesome.

That guy's ready to go, Huh? Look at him.

They got Plenty of sunlight.

They got plenty of land. They got plenty of water.

It looks like they're just Gonna be really, really happy.

You guys did a wonderful, Wonderful job.

It's time to show it To the family.

Oh, my god, That guy is so cute!

Brett: six boys, When they walked in,

These guys were so excited.

The looks on the gerardis' faces Were priceless.

Brett: they're about 14 to 16 inches.

Gators grow anywhere between 7 to 9 inches a year.

So you guys will probably be Able to have these gators

For another Couple of years.

He's actually gonna swap These gators out

When they get too big, Bring them back to his location,

And then bring you guys New gators.

Now, on the other side, We have some amazing sharks.

See the two sharks With the lines on them?

I see that.

Okay, those guys Are banded cat sharks.

Well, these guys Are night feeders.

They're gonna get Very active,

And they're gonna swim a lot At night.

We have A shovelnose shark.

Can you see it? Phil: yeah.

You got two marbled cat sharks In there, as well,

They're pretty awesome.

And the main thing is how clear It is between the two.

Wayde: we designed An angled piece of acrylic

Going straight From one corner

Diagonal To the other corner.

So now you guys have A custom,

One-of-a-kind Predator tank.

[ cheers and applause ]

Brett: and now it's time For a quick fish fact.

Brett: wayde's favorite Sea creature is the octopus.

He loves That they have three hearts

And can fit through any space The size of their beak.

My favorite is the clown trigger Because of all its colors,

And I like to clown around.

And heather's favorite fish Is the coral beauty angel fish

For its vibrant colors.

This fish also stands up For itself.

They can be very aggressive When they have to be.

Wayde: we've done so many Amazing tanks in our careers.

It's really hard to pick Your favorite.

It's kind of like picking Your favorite cookie.

Well, you got To pick just one --

One that's a little bit More special than the rest.

All right, Vanilla macadamians.

Oh, geez. I meant the tank, Not the cookie.

Oh!

I almost had To have you committed.

Wayde: there were a lot Of specifications to figure out

In order to create An environment

For optimum plant growth.

Water temperature And nitrate levels.

Lighting and fertilization.

And just how deep to plant them In substrate gravels.

I tested everything.

Normally, when we take Something over the top,

I'm like this.

There's no way This is holding an aquarium.

You know what? I knew this was gonna happen!

Man, this is not Gonna be easy.

I was gonna give him a call. He always helps me out.

I don't think This is gonna work.

That's not -- It's not what I wanted!

But this time, everyone can see I was excited

To figure out these challenges.

I think my enthusiasm Got everybody going.

Get the right flow going In the tank.

I want the lights On the tank.

I want this thing To be crazy, dude.

You're all hyped up Over this tank.

We do a million tanks.

There's so much

That we're gonna be able To do on this tank.

It's gonna be great. It is cool.

We don't do a lot of planted Tanks, so it should be cool.

We started with a basic tank, Stone foundation,

And a special nitrate reactor To help the plants survive.

Then we aquascaped The whole entire thing

With underwater plants And grow lights.

Well, not everyone Was appreciating

Your dedication To these plants.

Like who? Your wife!

[ murmuring ]

Heather: wayde.

What's up?

"What's up?"

You were supposed to be home An hour ago.

We got the big tank to do. It's the planted tank.

This thing's gonna be Over the top.

It's a huge challenge.

I'm learning All about these plants.

It's really cool. You see these?

You see these roots In here?

You can grow these faster Under a certain amount of light

And right temperature Of water.

But I have dinner at home With our children waiting!

This is one of our first Planted tanks.

This thing's Gonna be incredible.

I'm sure it is, but it can be Incredible tomorrow.

I went home like Heather asked me,

But I just couldn't Leave my work behind.

Taylor: you were supposed to Come play with us in the pool

A half an hour ago.

You guys should see this.

I can make these plants Grow unbelievably.

This was my dream tank Come true.

The plants were in, Not floating at the top.

The fish were in.

I couldn't wait A moment longer

To show the doctor My favorite tank.

And it has all custom equipment Inside it,

Made for, actually, A planted discus tank.

In a variety Of different colors.

Pigeon red.

We have the snow white discus, Turquoise discus.

All the plants in it Are alive.

Amazon swords. We have ferns.

The plants help With the fish waste.

What it does is, They work together.

So, the fish waste, Basically, is --

Feeds the plants. Feeds the plants,

And then the plants grow,

And it helps keep your nitrates, Your ammonia levels down.

It's just, like, just...

That he wanted to keep.

We want this trailer To be a fish tank.

I think it'd be great For the showroom.

So you want to keep this In your showroom on display

With the fish tank in it? Michael: absolutely.

We actually had one Of our manufacturers

Custom-build the trailer To house this fish tank.

It's strange that They didn't call us first

To see what kind Of support the tank needs.

I figured we got the trailer in On lockdown.

You got the fish tank in On lockdown.

So, we just want it In there.

W-w-w-w-we got to meet Those two together.

[ laughs ] That's not that easy.

I love it. I think it's a great idea.

I'm thinking It's no problem.

I don't think this thing's Gonna be strong enough.

You know, when they built That r.V. For the tank,

I think they forgot to take One thing into consideration.

Both: the tank.

Why don't we make the tank, Like, u-shaped?

Wayde: a what?

Like a "U" shape, Like look.

Let me show you.

It goes this way, Then it goes that way,

And then it goes that way,

And hollow out the middle So that when the people walk in,

They can walk Into the actual middle,

And it takes out the whole Middle section of the tank,

Which will probably drop 1,500 pounds.

So they'll see the whole thing From the outside,

We'll save weight On the inside.

All right, beautiful. Problem solved.

How are you getting the tank In here?

Look at these windows.

I'll just cut This...Out here.

Cut the front out, Slide it in, put it back.

It's a brand-new trailer!

He spent his whole life In an r.V.

This guy Can take this thing apart

And put it back together With his eyes closed.

Dude, he's redneck. What are you worried about?

He's got it.

You delegate it to him, He'll get it done.

No problem.

Redneck: We went with brett's idea

To fit the r.V. With a u-shaped tank.

That gave a great view Of the fish from the inside

And the outside of the r.V.

I tore apart the trailer To get it in there,

Then it had to all go back Together seamlessly.

Before we cut any acrylic,

I fitted the r.V. With a cardboard mock-up...

Removed the front Of the trailer...

Formed the acrylic, then I got The r.V. Plumbed up, sealed up,

And she and I were on our way.

Even though redneck's been In an r.V. His whole life,

I don't think he really Ever ripped one apart.

We got you fish From different coasts,

As if you were traveling,

So you got fish from the, You know, atlantic ocean,

From the pacific ocean, And from the gulf coast.

We got a lantern in there That's been totally redone.

The center actually Is illuminating paint,

So when the lights go off,

The lantern will Still light.

Wow.

You got some sticks with some Marshmallows and hot dogs.

Wayde: there might be A couple missing.

That's exactly What we were looking for.

You know, r.V. -- It's redneck's vision.

And I got a little overzealous With the underwater forest.

Now it's heather's turn.

Heather: the vegas-wedding Arch tank!

I knew it! Cha-ching!

Vegas weddings is one Of the top chapels in vegas.

They have all these different, Beautiful rooms

To get married in, And they wanted a tank.

People want a place For nontraditional weddings.

They want to come And do something fun.

Right under here, Do a whole tank.

With the fish Over their heads and all.

I knew you guys were The right ones for the job.

My first favorite thing About this tank

Is that you came up With the idea.

I did, didn't I?

I knew you had Some romance in you.

And, naturally, your brother Had some crazy ideas, too.

What if we made, like, This actually look like

A giant slot machine?

My bridesmaids And my maid of honor

Were getting ready In the chapel.

And a little birdie Named brett told me

That wayde was even more nervous

Than he was At our first wedding.

Dude, what are you So nervous about?

Wayde: I'm sweating.
