I have several medals That I'm extremely proud of.

What I'd like is for Each of those medals

To be somehow blown up to scale, Maybe, and in the tank.

And what I'm envisioning In my tank

Is my background And my love for law.

So we need to figure out How to make that happen.

Why don't we do An l-shaped aquarium

Where the aquarium Goes this way?

Let's say, You know, 4 or 5 feet

And then this way 4 or 5 feet,

And then on this side, Since your office is here,

We could do The military theme.

And then over here on this side, We could do the law theme.

You'll actually get both themes Into one tank.

You're such a diplomat.

So, the aquarium's gonna Protrude into this room.

The live rock, We have to build

All the way up On that back wall.

That's a lot of work.

The day we walk Through your door

And set this thing up, It's not gonna be "Wow."

So it takes a lot of days

For it to actually establish In an aquarium.

Corals grow really slow,

So that means for us To impress gary and kendra,

We need time!

Yeah, and that means A lot of days

Invading their nice home.

Oh, boy. Yeah.

All the electrical's gonna have To be removed and relocated.

Okay. That's new.

And then what We're gonna do is,

We're gonna have to cut a hole Somewhere in the ceiling

Up there to put some ventilation So they can vent that room.

She won't even let me Hang a picture.

That's why she's so concerned About the construction here.

The only way To really make this happen

Is gonna have to definitely Be some construction.

There's gonna be some dust.

But we'll be as clean As possible.

This is gonna be One tough customer.

And it is a huge deal.

It's one of the largest Conferences in the country.

Yeah, we need to step up Our game.

This is a chance to showcase Their corals and our tank.

Why don't we just do something Like a machine like this?

A custom vending-machine tank That displays their product.

Genius marketing scheme.

It's one of our largest Trade shows in our industry,

And it's got to be ready In two weeks.

And the general found us A vending machine

To use for the build... Sort of.

It's like three separate Machines in one!

I wanted one machine!

It is one machine,

But you didn't say That you want one product!

I asked him For a simple turkey sandwich.

And it's like he brought me

The whole entire Thanksgiving feast.

I can't put a fish tank In this whole thing.

Just use A little ingenuity!

We fill it up with soda. This works.

We make a tank from here To here, from here to here.

Maybe we'll do this one As a second tank.

Then we got to figure out Where the pumps go,

The lighting goes, The filters go.

I mean, we got a lot of work On this right now.

When he gets it, He's gonna freak.

He's not expecting Something like this.

Brett: since we're dealing With a complex vending machine,

We're gonna make two tanks Instead of one.

The top tank will show off Colorful coral,

Live rock, and crawly critters

To keep this little Live reef thriving.

With the extra space,

We'll surprise vicky and raymond With a saltwater tank

That will house their favorite Critters, sea horses,

Just like in their shop.

To really turn some heads At macna,

A fully functioning Soda compartment

Will dispense ice-cold beverages

When customers And fish fans alike

Deposit money into the machine.

While roger tries to figure out

How to get the fizz In the vending machine,

The l-shaped piece of acrylic For the law-and-military tank

Is being pieced together.

Now wayde and I can start Planning the coral reef.

Keeping corals alive and growing

Is a delicate mix Of art and science,

So since this live-reef tank Is so deep,

We need a lighting system That's powerful enough

To reach the bottom and keep These corals healthy.

So we've called in a couple Of experts to help us out.

So, what do you got?

What we brought Is the apex system here,

Which is a controller system That's used on most reefs,

'cause it monitors everything In your reef tank --

Ph, temperature, salinity, Everything.

Since we're putting different Varieties of coral in the tank,

We need to be able to meet Their different needs.

So, you push a button,

And you get all The different spectrums

For the corals to grow.

Regular fish lighting, you put It on once, and that's it.

You don't have all that.

You're really trying To duplicate

What the sun does By coming up in the morning,

Going midday, being At its highest point

With its brightest light,

And then setting Throughout the evening.

They're bringing the bahamas Right into their living room.

Look at it -- Boom, boom, boom.

And then if you want a little Bit of storm action,

Here comes a cloud Right about now.

Here comes the cloud.

Now you get some lightning Coming in.

This l-shaped Law-and-military-themed aquarium

Will combine the passions Of both gary and kendra

With two unique side views.

After tearing down the wall In the foyer

And removing the closet Behind it,

We'll slide a steel stand In place

That will house the plumbing And serve as a support

For the 400-gallon Live-reef tank.

In addition to Law-and-military-themed props,

This tank will house Colorful coral

And reef-dwelling sea life.

We'll top the aquarium off With custom lighting

To keep this reef growing strong And add a sleek facade

To seamlessly blend This tank into the home.

While the pros work On our custom lighting

And the acrylic crew Gets the tank ready,

We're getting a head start On the install.

This is gonna require Multiple visits,

And the first step Is knocking down the wall.

We're back at the shop to figure Out the theme for this aquarium.

Gary asked for the medals He proudly earned

To be part of the tank.

So I asked denny, our prop Master, to make exact replicas.

The problem is, the metals Are made from...Metal,

And they can't go Inside the tank

'cause over time, Salt water will corrode them

And release toxins that will Be harmful to the fish.

Yeah, but our boy denny, He got ways around it.

So, I went out and I found This stuff. It's mica powder.

And it's basically Crushed-up rock.

There's no metal In it whatsoever,

But it has a metallic look to it When it's done.

So it's gonna look like metal? Exactly.

All right, So, what are we gonna do?

I want to focus on this one. This one's gonna be pewter.

I got some silver here, and I've Got, like, antique gold,

And I want to mix these two

To get a little bit Of a pewter color.

Okay.

And mix these up, And then the idea...

Is we're gonna take This brush.

And we're gonna brush it Into the mold.

And then you pour the smooth-on Product in there?

Correct. It's an exothermic Product, so it uses heat to set.

Look at that. It's like liquid metal, dude.

Wow, that was quick! Did you see how quick?

This is already done. Look at that.

That's set.

Nice!

How about that, guys?

Dude, that is so cool.

It's cool, huh?

That definitely represents gary. He's gonna love it.

And you know what? It's Fish-safe. It can go underwater.

Make the rest of them, Make them look perfect,

Make them represent, And we're good.

Brett: Redneck has the wiring for The vending machine working,

And kyle is carving a custom Sea-horse-viewing window

For the sea-horse tank.

It's not actually alive itself,

But it's home to algae, Bacteria,

And all kinds Of marine organisms

That help the tank thrive.

This coral-reef tank Is really coming together,

And now it's time To lay down the law.

And military.

Gary is extremely proud Of these medals

He earned serving our country,

So these replicas need to go Front and center

On his side of the tank.

Brett: the answer -- "A," Reef stonefish.

The stonefish takes a page out Of the military tactical book

And camouflages itself to look Like a rock or a lump of coral.

It blends in so well, It's nearly impossible to spot.

Both vending machine and law and Military are live-reef tanks.

The last step in the process Is picking out corals.

Vicky and raymond from reef top Are sending us some corals

From their shop for The vending-machine tank,

But for law-and-military tank,

We're heading to Sea dwelling creatures in l.A.

To handpick corals, as well As fish, for both tanks.

We got two tanks This week.

The first one is a tank Called law and military.

It's a 400-gallon Live-reef tank.

Oh, sweet. Yeah.

The next tank's A really cool tank.

It's a vending-machine tank.

The top -- we're gonna do A mini reef tank.

And on the side, We're gonna do a sea-horse tank.

For law and military, I figured Since we're at the coral,

I mean, Why don't we start here?

Corals are an actual animal

That have tentacles, a mouth, And a stomach.

They grow as polyps

And attach themselves in groups To form colonies.

Why don't we start off

With some of these brain corals Right here?

See the brains? Cool brains.

You know what's really good About propagating corals?

It's saving the environment, It's helping the industry,

And we're learning.

We're learning each day now To actually grow corals

Instead of taking it From the environment.

Every single cultured coral That we sell

Is one less wild caught.

We need fish to work With the corals.

So, what about Some green chromis?

Green chromis sound great. Let me show you some.

Come on over here, guys. We're looking for green chromis.

I like how they school.

Yeah, look at them. It looks great.

It's a great fish. And I like the green.

It's not super army green,

But it kind of fits into The army's -- I like that.

They are also known To guard the nest,

You know, like the army is Guarding the united states.

They're guarding the nest.

Speaking of military, dude,

Look what's right there In the damsel section.

I see them. Sergeant majors.

Sergeant majors Would be perfect.

Got to throw some Sergeant majors in there.

They got the stripes On them.

They're a little more aggressive Than the green chromis,

So we're not gonna put As many in,

But we can definitely add A couple in there.

What about sea horses For the vending machine?

Oh, yeah, there we go. Look at those guys.

I like the fact that the males

Also keep the babies Inside their pouch.

That's right.

How many babies Are you holding?

275.

They're actually great Camouflage guys.

They can eventually change To match that environment.

Sea horses change color As a defense mechanism

To hide from predators.

They also use color changing

To communicate emotion During courtship.

We usually keep, like, Yellow chain inside the tank

For them to hold onto,

And that helps them Actually keep their color.

I think we're good to go. What do you think?

I say we saddle up And go home.

We're doing a sea-horse tank

In the vending machine For reef top,

And there's a very important Thing we need to consider.

We got to talk plumbing.

Sea horses -- they're very, Very delicate creatures.

The problem is, Is we can't have

A very strong current In the aquarium.

It's got to be Evenly dispersed.

Correct, so if you have The current blowing out

And that sea horse hits it, you Can actually kill the animal.

So we got To figure out plumbing

That's gonna fit Under this thing here

That's actually gonna Filter the aquarium,

Which is very important To keep them alive,

But also not strong enough To kill them.

I had the guys set up A test station

To get the current just right On the filtration system

To keep the sea horses safe.

This current that you see here Flowing, it's way too much.

Can we die that down?

Yeah.

See, if we die it down,

They'll chill out And they'll move around,

But if it's real fast,

It'll either blow them against The wall or suck them up.

Let's say this is the tank And the current.

See how slow this is?

We got to make sure We're filtering the water

But it's going very slow Like this.

With the water flow Taken care of,

It's time to wrap this baby up And show it off.

And to show all the visitors What atm can do.

But since this conference Is in full swing,

We only have a small window

To get this tank set up And functioning.

Just put it down right here And pull the cart out.

We got to clean all this up now. They're on their way.

Brett: we're at the macna Aquarium conference in florida,

Setting up a vending-machine Tank for reef top aquariums.

We're under a tight schedule To get this thing working,

And we just hit a big problem.

Why is the whole thing Leaning like that?

I don't know.

This tank has to sit level.

Brett: without a foot, The tank isn't level,

And if the water level Is uneven,

The filtration Won't work properly.

So our number-one priority Is finding this foot.

Wayde: Kyle saved the day for now,

But we got to get This tank moving.

We have to make sure This tank's completely level.

Brett: luckily, The reef tank was small,

And we were able to get The rocks in pretty quickly.

Yeah, that, but you know what? I know what I'm doing.

Dude, that's natures ocean. All you need is one bag.

Think vicky's Gonna like it?

She's gonna love it. Raymond's gonna love it.

All the parameters are good -- Salinity, temperature, ph.

Everything in the tank Is ready to go.

I got a couple things coming For.

Look at that, dude. That's a green brain.

Look how awesome that is. Look at the colors.

It's about the size of yours, So we're good.

Yeah, close, you know? He's got a nice little spot.

Placing coral Is really an art form.

They all have specific places They like to live.

Correct, and the stony corals, They would go up top,

And, like, the brains,

They would be nested Between the rocks.

You see how it fits Right in?

It looks like it's growing out Of the rock?

I'm ready for some fish.

I'm getting them right now. Got some black ice clownfish.

Look at these guys.

These guys Are beautiful, dude.

We got some Splendid dottybacks.

Splendid.

There you go. A starfish.

We got one with five legs. We got one with six legs.

And, you know, if they lose A leg, they grow it back.

Cleaner shrimp. Cleaner shrimp?

These guys eat all The scraps and everything

That's left over at the bottom Of the tank.

Come on, buddy.

So, we're ready to work On the sea-horse tank.

Man, this is gonna be tough.

We have to take the heavy rock,

Put it in the skinny tank

Without scratching the acrylic Or breaking it into pieces.

Don't drop that.

Yeah, you drop that, you break The bottom of the tank.

Hoops, don't scratch the tank Going down.

Make sure it's secure.

That's fine, as long as it gets Towards the front

Without scratching The front.

Thankfully, We didn't scratch the tank.

Now the sea horses Have a new home

With branches They can hang onto.

Just like that, bro.

Brett: sea horses hang on As a defense mechanism.

They can change colors and match Anything they're hooked to.

They use this as camouflage To avoid predators.

Look at the sea horses.

Dude, they look like they're Hanging out at the corral.

I know. I like sea horses.

Those guys are captive-raised. They eat frozen food.

They do Really well together.

Wayde: The tank's all loaded up,

And the lighting arrived Just in time.

Oh, look at that. Wow, look at those.

This lighting's great.

The tank is looking awesome But could really use some pop.

Get it? No.

Let's get the soda in So we can show the client.

Just e-3 and -5. All right, close it up.

Sea-horse tank. Check.

Global coral. Check.

A.I. Lighting. Check.

Working vending machine. Check!

I think this tank Is outrageous.

It exceeds our expectation.

We told you we were gonna make You a vending machine,

And that's what we did.

You got two custom tanks.

We decided to make A custom sea-horse tank.

We did a beautiful Sea-horse window.

You can look in On the side,

And we made it A fully stocked soda machine.

That's amazing, guys.

One of a kind right here.

So, let me tell you a little bit About the fish.

We have tank-raised clownfish,

But we got some special Tank-raised clownfish.

These are black ice clowns,

And you notice that they have Some crazy markings on them.

The cleaner shrimp -- I like the way they set Up an actual station

And they're able to go around

And clean different parasites Off of fish.

Then over here, We got sea horses,

And look, they're hooking Onto the live gorgonias.

I mean, it's pretty awesome.

It was imperative that it looks Like one of your tanks.

How did we do?

This is amazing.

It looks great, But does it really work?

Of course it works. Hey, you know what?

Let me buy you a drink.

What is it -- a dollar? Yeah, d-0.

Yeah, Most people don't realize

When you're doing A reef aquarium,

You're trying To reproduce the ocean.

So you got to get The sand sifters

To move all the sand around.

You got to get the lawnmower Blennies in there

So they're actually cutting The lawn so it doesn't overgrow.

It's an ecosystem. That's the whole idea.

Let's get the fish in. We're hooking this up.

Putting the finishing touches On their live reef tank.

Wayde: there's only one problem. They're home early.

Now we have to scramble To get the house cleaned.

This is amazing.

Are you kidding me?

Now, that's a tank.

Wayde: we have custom rock That was put in the aquarium,

And it's not rock that was taken Out of the ocean.

It was actually Naturally grown.

And when you do a reef aquarium, Most reefs are not as tall,

So we actually Had to build up layers

So we can place corals on it

To give that full effect To the aquarium.

So, you wanted Law-and-military theme,

So we made lady justice.

Gary, you gave us a bunch Of your military medals,

So we actually had denny, Our prop guy,

Re-create some Of the medals.

Sergeant major, combat infantry, Bronze star.

That is perfect.

We have all kinds Of little critters.

We call those guys The cleanup crew.

There's mexican Turbo snails.

There's all kinds of things That are in it

That do well At cleaning the algae.

They sift through the sand.

There's also a diamond goby In there.

The diamond goby is so cool Because what this guy does,

He actually intakes sand Into his mouth,

Eats whatever's In the sand,

And then spits sand Out of his gills.

You have hammer corals. You have branch corals.

You have brain corals.

You have clams.

Those guys are great. They're filter feeders.

The great thing About a reef aquarium

Is that whenever You look inside this tank,

You're always gonna see Something happening.

And in six months To a year from now,

Every coral is gonna be Three, four times the size.

The lighting that we have On here is ultra amazing.

You can control This whole aquarium

Just by your tablet Or your smartphone.

Let's say you're hanging out In your house

And you click it on here.

It's gonna react as a storm.

Like, clouds Are gonna go over.

Watch the aquarium.

There we go. The clouds are coming.

Now here comes the lightning -- A little bit of lightning.

And it's also a fully Functioning soda dispenser.

The second life-reef aquarium We built for gary and kendra

Towers in at 2 tons.

This 380-gallon tank serves As an underwater reef retreat

For dozens of vibrant Coral and fish

And is topped off With custom lighting

Controlled By a neptune apex system.
