Nan and I Are both retired navy.

We opened up A small music store,

And gradually, it's grown Bigger and bigger.

Now I know how you Got the name, blue angels.

This is the home Of the blue angels,

And so we kind of Twisted that a little bit.

It became Blues angel music.

And you found angel, too.

She's another one Of our critters.

Well, this kind of Leads into

Why we asked you guys To come by here.

And so we think A tank of some kind,

That becomes a focal point In the store.

People come in, they get Real excited and jazzed.

So we want color. We want the musical theme.

It just adds To the mood of the store.

As you can see, We love animals.

We're close to the ocean.

Did you guys Have anything in mind?

You can put a cello in there, An upright bass.

We did do a guitar once For jimmy fallon.

I don't really think It's big enough.

So you just don't have a plain, Square, regular aquarium.

You have something That's kind of exciting.

I was born On the big island,

And we actually have Three large volcanoes.

And one of them is active, The kilauea.

So it still smokes And everything?

Yeah. It's erupting.

So you want to Do something

With a volcano Inside the aquarium?

Yeah, maybe we can Incorporate it somehow.

If it's A walk-around aquarium,

We have an overflow that's Gonna be in the dead center.

But I got a great idea.

Why don't we cover it With a volcano?

Make a polygen volcano That could come up.

And you know what?

Up, up, up, and keep going, Maybe out of the tank.

What? Jason: that's cool.

The first one's For a music store in florida.

It's gonna be A bass-drum tank,

And it's got to look Just like that piece.

We got to Make it look real.

They want it to work.

When you playing on the drum,

It actually puts Vibrations into the water,

So we got to actually Figure this out

And design it so it doesn't Hurt the fish in any way.

Could you get earplugs?

We can't put earplugs In the fish.

And it's hawaiian themed.

And promised him A full-blown volcano.

Brett: I told them that we could Do some kind of effects,

Whether it'd be lava --

How are you gonna put lava?

It goes into the tank.

Not necessarily. There's ways we can do it.

But I think It's a definite challenge.

I want to be involved In this volcano tank.

Bryce had to make A volcano for a science fair,

And we made one together.

It's pretty awesome. And he got an a-plus.

Anything you can Help out with, brett,

Would be Actually a surprise.

While we were In the meeting,

A package from Blues angel music arrived,

But it was a lot more than we Were expecting.

Drums, drums, drums.

This one's drums.

Why is there 86 boxes?

I think there's a mix-up With the delivery.

This is one of Bryce's science-fair projects

That he got an "A" on.

We sent you An entire drum set.

Wayde: we got a shipment From blues angel music

For the drum tank.

This was supposed to be One drum,

But we got a pallet Full of boxes.

General: So, what'd he say?

Wayde: he wants all of 'em To be a tank.

He wants to set 'em up.

He wants it to be a tank, A tank, a tank, and a tank.

And he wants All of 'em working.

This project went from One tank to eight tanks

In a phone call.

I know, but the client's Always right, dude.

We got to Make this happen.

I say the first thing we do is, Let's put these things together

And figure it out From there.

Redneck: have you Put a drum together before?

No. Have you?

If you would have learned How to play the drums

Instead of playing The cello,

Maybe we'd be In a better position

To put this stuff together.

Wayde: we're certainly No drum techs,

But after two hours, We figured it out.

All right, you got Everything in place now?

Looks good to me.

Hold on, hold on. Wait, wait, wait, wait.

Look at you, a regular Keith moon from the who.

A guy from the who.

No, from the who.

Wayde: You got to make it visible,

So they're gonna be Round cylinders

That we can see Through the front.

Then we can actually use The outside shell.

That's what I'm saying.

We might have to modify it A little bit.

We'll make this All acrylic,

And then we'll Put this chrome piece

On the top and the bottom. Exactly.

We told 'em we were gonna use Most of the original hardware,

So all the little pieces -- The rivets, the steel,

Whatever we could use, redneck, Let's try to use all that stuff.

Okay.

There's no way we're Filtrating all this together.

Well, why don't you Just make the top freshwater?

Okay, but we still Can't filtrate 'em.

Then what do you Put in the rest of 'em

If you can't Filtrate it?

I don't know. Like, well, goldfish?

Brett: Goldfish only need bubblers

To cycle oxygen into the tank

Because over time, They've adapted

To living in Very small bodies of water.

Let's build a stage.

The filters are gonna have to go Right below it in the front.

The platform's got to be At least long enough

For all the drum set And to have a drummer sit there.

Wayde: and high enough for all The filters to be underneath.

Now we have to solve The main problem.

Fish cannot handle the vibration From working drums.

Obviously, we're not Gonna let them

Play the drums On top of the fish

Because the reverberation could Possibly be a problem.

They got one of those Electric drum pads

That you literally Can sit on it, play,

And the thing makes All kinds of noises

Like it's a real drum set.

The electronic pad

Will give the client The drum effect,

But it won't disturb The fish

Because no one's gonna Be pounding

Directly on the acrylic.

Dude.

If you can dream it, We can drum it.

We'll turn each drum in this Eight-piece set into a tank.

The two bass drums And the two floor toms

Will be saltwater tanks,

And the four hanging toms Will be freshwater.

We'll use the existing hardware From the drums

To make the aquarium Look authentic.

Then we'll mount Electric drum pads on each

So they'll be playable Without harming the fish.

All filtration will be housed Underneath the tanks

In a custom steel stage That will give the drummer

A bird's-eye view of the crowd During a killer solo.

While the guys in the shop Get the drums beating,

I grab the volcano That my son made

To inspire us for the design Of the lahaina grill tank.

Now, what is this?

Your nephew Made this, bryce.

I helped him with it. It's a volcano.

Looks like an ant hill Or something.

The reason I brought this to you

Is for a little bit Of inspiration.

You want to See this thing pop?

Inspiration.

I'm gonna show you Why he got an "A."

That you should never, ever Underestimate a 6-year-old

That has access to papier-mâché And to youtube.

You know how we have, Like, the magic powder?

Yeah.

Hold on, Watch the magic powder.

He did that with a two-liter Bottle of soda and mint candy.

Dude!

Dude, that was a gusher! That's how you do it!

That's how volcanoes Are made.

Dude, we can't do this.

I'm not saying We have to do this.

Dude, people are gonna be Sitting here eating sushi

And this is gonna go All over the place.

My point is, is that,

It needs to just Have something that pops.

You know what I'm saying? Oh, it popped.

That popped, right? That popped.

That's what I'm saying.

So, let's discuss What we really need to do

For this thing.

What about enhancing this With some lights?

Like some l.E.D. Strips?

Maybe some acrylic With some lights

So it looks like Lava's flowing.

Make a couple Of tracks

That he can actually Lay the lights in.

I think That would be great.

While you're at it -- No soda.

Yeah, clean this up.

Yeah, got it. Have fun.

Brett: The tank for lahaina grill

Will feature an eight-foot long Racetrack design

And sit in the center Of their new bar.

To make this truly hawaiian,

We'll build a volcano To cover the overflow

And extend it Through the top of the tank.

Then embedded l.E.D. Lights

Will simulate lava flowing down To the water.

We can't waste any time admiring Our plans on the volcano.

Chuy and the guys

Got the blues angel drum tank Molded and bonded.

But to make these authentic,

We had to use the original Hardware from the drum kit.

Let's check these out first.

Brett: oh, I see What he did, okay.

Now, are we Gonna be able

To take these pieces And attach them?

This is a work in progress As we're going right now.

Can these Be glued on here,

Or are we gonna have to Screw 'em in

Like they're Screwed on the drums?

No, we can't -- Well, the problem is,

If you screw Through the tank,

Then you're gonna have Possible leaking.

What if we make an acrylic block With two holes in it?

Wayde: what's up, boys?

Hey, what's going on?

You guys come up With an idea yet?

So what we were Thinking is,

Is you can glue it Right to the acrylic,

Just like that.

Yeah, but gluing to this After it's thermoformed,

It's gonna craze, 100%.

When you bend a piece of acrylic In the oven,

You have a flat piece, And you bend it,

You're stretching the acrylic.

You put glue on it, It actually wants to tighten up,

And it causes microfractures.

That's called crazing.

I'd like to make it Look as authentic as possible.

I mean, I want this thing To look just like

The drum set That they sent us.

Brett: we finally decided To drill holes part way through

The half-inch thick acrylic.

It won't be deep enough To damage the acrylic,

But they'll be deep enough To lock the hardware into place.

Wayde: in the meantime, the Lahaina acrylic has been formed,

And denny has carved a base For the volcano.

Now it's time To dry fit both pieces.

Dude, I like this, huh? This looks good.

Put the returns here. Oh, look at that.

You made some access To get in there.

I like those lids. That's gonna look good.

So we're gonna have All the lava and everything

Going down this?

Yeah, the l.E.D. Lights Over resin laid in there.

And then this Is in the tank,

And then the other one Goes on top?

How big Is this thing, dude?

It's right at Six-foot long,

And front to back, I don't know -- 22, 24 inches?

Dude, this might Be a problem.

Is it too wide?

We got to have fish and Everything swimming around it.

Let's put it Over the thing.

Let's see how it looks.

We got Enough room that way.

We got Enough room this way.

But the fish Swimming around this way?

There's no way fish Are gonna be able to go in here.

Wayde: what is this, Like, a green light?

Oh, hang on a second. I got to fix this wiring.

Why is that green? I don't know.

Wayde: We're dry fitting the volcano

In a tank For the lahaina grill,

And I see a problem.

Our measurements Must be off

Because we've built the volcano Too big for the tank.

There's no way... Yeah, I can't even get --

...Fish are gonna be able To go in here.

Imagine you were a fish, And you gained a little weight.

You couldn't Squeeze through there.

Yeah. No, definitely.

Fish safety Is our number-one priority,

And we can't put 'em in the tank The way it is now.

Can we trim this? Can we grind it down?

Can we get A little thinner?

We'll have to Take a couple inches

Out of the ridge here And bring it out.

You may end up With the overflow box

Popping out A little bit here and there

At the lows That are there, but --

Yeah, but you got have The fish swim through.

Yeah, we'll do What we got to do.

Trim two inches And two inches,

Re-polygen it Before we paint it,

So at least We do it once, all right?

Yep. Yeah, you got it.

Wayde: the owners Of blues angel music

Wants us to make a real drum set Into eight separate fish tanks,

And they want it to play.

We have to have A working drum set,

But the first thing For us is make sure

The fish are safe and healthy.

To actually solve the problem

Of people banging on the drums With drumsticks,

We asked yamaha For the electronic drum pads

So we can put them on the top of The tanks and mimic real drums.

We got to figure out How we're gonna do this

And mount this So the vibration's

Not going in the tank.

Most people don't know, Fish have hearing.

They also have hair cells.

People have hair cells In their ears, and so do fish.

In fish, the hair cells Help them detect vibrations,

Which allows them to school And escape predators.

I downloaded this app.

It shows Vibration and noise.

If this is in here, And this is the aquarium,

And we put this On top of this aquarium,

Watch what happens. Go ahead.

Look at it underneath.

You see that? Oh, yeah.

You see how It's jumping off the scale?

We need to find a material To muffle the drum noise

Before it reaches the fish.

Put that up there.

There's still a vibration,

But not as bad As when it was right on top.

Some rubber foam. Go ahead.

Yeah, that's no good.

Put the bubble wrap In there.

Oh, look at that. Big, big difference.

Nothing's going inside it. Yeah.

We're not gonna put bubble wrap On the top of this tank.

It's gonna look Kind of funny, you know?

Right. But it has an air gap.

You see How it blocks the sound?

Yeah. If we take the foam.

Let's say we cut Little pieces if we could,

Right, and we glue The pieces down around it.

Put that right on there.

Now try it, frankie.

Oh, look at that. None.

That's the best so far.

Yeah.

You know what'd be cool?

If you see a fish dancing Underwater to the music.

[ laughs ] Huh?

Next, I'm gonna grab brett To check out a demonstration

These are little bullets,

And these are gonna Represent sparks

Coming out Of the top of this thing.

So you're gonna have These red lights more up here?

Oh, look at that. They're going down each one.

And then it flows down At about a foot per second,

And that'll continue Down into the tank.

So these go underwater?

Yep. Okay, that's cool.

I've encased these In a hard resin,

So they should be Perfectly safe.

After we program it,

These things are gonna be Color changing.

They will go orange, Red, orange, red.

We're gonna trigger it With sound first,

So all of a sudden, They'll hear a rumble.

They'll be like, "What the heck?"

They'll just Start hearing noises.

They'll see the lights. It'll be a great surprise.

What is this, Like a green light?

Hang on a second. I got to fix this wiring.

Why is that green? I don't know.

Stop.

Obviously, There's a few glitches

Denny needs to work out.

I've never seen green lava.

Maybe it's an irish volcano.

They come out more at night, You know, like most eels.

It's like you Going to the fridge

Denny's on his way over With the rest of the volcano

And all of the electronics.

Denny: what's going on, guys? What's happening?

That thing looks awesome. Isn't that great?

Is there Any more stuff outside?

Yeah, there's Some more stuff outside.

Anybody order a volcano?

Wayde: aaron, what is this? Aaron: a piece of the insert.

That's the insert?

That's the wiring. Oh, that's great.

Wayde: One of the lights got loose

And stuck under the volcano.

Wayde: If that gets water in it,

It can short the whole Entire thing out.

Hoops, line it up.

Hey, we got a big problem. These things aren't lining up.

We're about an inch and a half, Two inches off.

Wayde: We're at the lahaina grill

Installing the volcano tank,

And I notice a problem With the insert.

One of the lights got loose And stuck under the volcano.

If that gets water in it,

That can short the whole Entire thing out.

Probably shifted During shipping here.

And it cracked on the bottom.

We got to find a way To patch that up.

We don't want to remove the Volcano insert from the tank.

That would risk Damaging it even more.

Wayde: right now We're not taking it out,

So we got to get some silicone Over that now.

Gravel will cover all this,

So I'm not worried About the looks,

But I'm worried about Making sure it's sealed.

Aaron: yeah, at this point,

That's definitely The best option.

Let's give a little test first.

Plug it in and see it work.

Sealing the insert with silicone Won't do us any good

If the lights were also damaged,

So we need denny To light this thing up

And see if it works.

Denny, what's your e.T.A. Of getting this thing lit up?

That's not easy to do.

The tank Was very difficult to do

Because we had to do The volcano inside it.

And we wanted to make sure That it was gonna be viewable

From your new gaming bar.

Jason: I love it because Anywhere you sit around our bar,

You're gonna be able To see every side of this tank.

And we know how important it was To bring the ocean,

You know, Into the ocean bar.

So some of the fish here, Obviously, are from hawaii.

We wanted to make them Hawaiian-themed.

Obviously, you guys know That the humu is the state --

Is the hawaiian State fish.

It's actually A docile trigger.

It's not really one That is very, very aggressive.

I actually had to do A little bit of research.

I know the names Of all of these fish.

What are those, Your cheat cards?

But I don't know The hawaiian names.

They're your cheat cards. They're my cheat cards.

You're cheating, I like it. I'm cheating.

I should have known You would have a crib sheet.

What is that On the top of our volcano?

The lava's running Inside of our tank.

Wayde: so, you guys told us You wanted a huge volcano.

It's actually In three pieces.

There's the base, Which is one piece.

Styrofoam. Styrofoam.

Interior, which is Made out of polygen,

And then the top piece, Which is actually made

From a different material, Which is really light,

And it can be moved around.

We gave over 400 l.E.D.'s

That's in between the top Of the volcano

And the piece That's inside the aquarium.

So the l.E.D.'s that are used Are actually waterproof,

And then What they did is,

They put a gel coat over The whole entire l.E.D. System

So that it protects it From the salt and from erosion.

It's like we're bringing

Some of hawaii Here to our restaurant.

And that was the goal. That was key.

It makes me feel Like I'm at home.

The crew got the blues angel Eight-piece drum set

Packed up and shipped.

Now we're meeting up With everyone

In pensacola, florida.

I'm ready To play the drums.

The main thing We got to do right now is,

We got to put the stand In place.

Once the stand's in place,

Then we can actually start Putting everything together.

Since the top drums are smaller,

We decided to make them Freshwater.

They won't need Any filtration,

And since pipes Won't be sticking out,

It won't be an eyesore.

Which way Is it supposed to go?

Hey, this thing Came out really good, huh?

You don't even see any Of the plumbing or anything.

Because we have limited space Under the stage,

All four saltwater tanks will Share the plumbing equipment.

Exactly. So, that's great.

We get to this point. Now we got to break it all down.

These goldfish will look like Some glitzy background singers

To our saltwater stars.

Love this tank. People are gonna go nuts.

Now it's time For the saltwater fish.

Banggai cardinals And a small clown.

Wayde: How they looking, b?

Oh, they're looking good.

Bass drum, One of my favorite fish.

Clown trigger. He's gonna run this tank.

Panther grouper. Yeah.

Two scoops per tank.

Last tank. Longnose hawkfish.

This guy's cool.

The only thing left to do

Is add the drum pads To these tanks

So the clients can rock out.

Here we go. Okay, place it on top.

See that?

Feel any vibration? Put your hand on it.

Nothing, right? No.

Wayde: The foam creates a gap between The drum pad and the fish tank,

So the fish don't feel a thing.

Yeah, and it's A lot easier

Than putting little Mini earplugs on 'em.

This tank Was a real challenge.

Eight tanks Instead of one.

Steve wanted it to be authentic. Really, really tough.

I'll be honest. I hope they love it.

Brett: all right. That's it, the final touches.

Get 'em.

You guys nailed it. It looks the real deal.

We were supposed to do one,

And then you guys sent us Box after box after box.

Surprise! Pretty good one, though, right?

Y'all were surprised?

Jim: we figure we give you A high target,

You might hit Two, three, four drums.

But never dreamed You'd do all eight drums.

I expected a call saying, "No, we're not doing this."

Does he know we've yet To back down from a challenge?

Apparently, He didn't get our memo.

One of the things That was really important

To you guys Was authenticity.

Wayde: we wanted to match The yamaha drum set.

We tried to use As much hardware

From the original drum sets As we could.

The drum kit had all these Different clips on 'em,

But we actually had to Dowel out two holes

For every single one Of these clips,

And every piece Was done by hand.

Stephen: it looks just like

A professional drum manufacturer Would have made it.

It's unbelievable.

The wooden hoops? These right here?

They set it off.

Wayde: you have freshwater All at the top,

And you have saltwater On the bottom.

All the filtration Is below the aquarium.

Brett: what we wanted to do

Is we wanted to Make it feel like a stage.

Yeah, it's spot on.

This looks like A straight-up drum riser.

I mean, it's perfect.

It looks exactly like What you would see up onstage.

Up top, we have, you know, A variety of different goldfish.

We have from orandas To lionheads to redcap goldfish.

Well, since you guys Are a music store,

We kind of themed some Of the stuff after you guys.

Your store is blues angel, So we have a blue tang.

Over there, We have a multibar angel.

And you know, the bar For being a bar in music.

This is gonna be The greeting point

For everybody that walks in Our store for years to come.

This is the only one In the world.

They don't play, do they?

Well, that was important to you, Wasn't it?

Well, I didn't think You'd be able to pull that off.

Well, we can't let you down, So yeah, they do play.

You can play this thing Right now,

And the fish will be fine.

This week, We delivered two tanks

That made our clients Erupt in applause,

Just like they were At a rock show.

For the lahaina grill, We built a racetrack-shaped tank

For their new bar That's 8 feet long,

Weighs 1,660 pounds, And has a custom volcano roar

Complete with a sound system And l.E.D. Lights

That represent hot lava.

For blues angel music, We achieved an atm first,

Turning a drum set Into an aquarium.

The set has eight tanks -- Four freshwater, four saltwater.

It's a total of 115 gallons,

And with a little atm ingenuity,

We made the drums Fully playable.

Now, that's what I call Turning it up to 11.

After we left blues angel music,

I had this screeching sound In my ear.

Wouldn't go away.

[ music playing off-key ]

I should have known The annoying noise

Would be coming from brett.

Wayde: What are you guys doing?

Brett: Getting the band back together.
