Who is this woman who is looking at me

I will not have her look at me

Wherefore doth she look at me with her golden eyes

under her golden eyelids

I know not who she is

Bid her be gone

It is not to her that I would speak

I am Salome daughter of Herodias

Princess of Judea

Back daughter of Babylon!

Come not near the chosen...

How beautiful is the Princess Salome tonight

Look at the moon

How strange the moon seems

She is like a woman rising from a tomb

Rejoice not thou land of Palestine

Because the rod of him

Who struck thee is broken

Thy hair is like a cluster of grapes

like the cluster of black grapes

that hang from the vines of Edom

How beautiful is the Princess Salome this evening

How beautiful is the Princess Salome this evening

It is thy hair that I am enamored

Jokanaan

Thy hair is like a cluster of grapes

like the cluster of black grapes

that hang from the vines of Edom.

Never!

I will kiss thy mouth, Jokanaan

I will kiss thy mouth

Princess, thou art like a garden of myrrh

Thou art the dove of all doves

Look not at this man

Do not speak such words to him

I cannot suffer them

I will kiss...

Let me kiss thy mouth, Jokanaan

Cursed be thou...

Daughter of an incestuous mother

be thou accursed

Let me kiss thy mouth, Jokanaan

I will not look at thee

Thou art accursed, Salome, thou are accursed

Thou art accursed

Thou art accursed

Thou art accursed

I would that they presently bring me

on a silver platter

Surely yes, on a silver platter

What is it you would have on a silver platter

Salome, you are who are fairer

than all the daughters of Judea

Whatsoever it may be, they shall give it to you

What is it, Salome?

The head of Jokanaan No!

Ah! That is well said my daughter

That is well said

The head of Jokanaan

No!

Ah! That is well said, my daughter.

Who has taken my ring?

There was a ring in my right hand

Who has drunk my wine?

There was wine in my cup

It was full of wine Someone has drunk it

I am sure some misfortune will happen

There is no sound.

I hear nothing

Why does he not cry out, this man?

Ah! If any man sought to kill me,

I would cry out, I would struggle.

I would not suffer...

Strike, Naaman, strike, I tell you...

Ah! Thou wouldst not suffer me to kiss...

thy mouth, Jokanaan!

Well, I will kiss it now.

I will bite it with my teeth...

with my teeth

as one bites a ripe fruit.

My daughter has done well

She is monstrous, thy daughter.

She is altogether monstrous!

I approve of what my daughter has done.

And I will stay here now.

Ah, there speaks the incestuous wife!

Come! I will not stay here

Come! I tell thee.

Surely some terrible thing will befall.
