SECRET HEALER

SECRET HEALER

EPISODE 17

This is the traitor's hideout. Search thoroughly!

-Yes, sir. -Yes, sir.

Go!

Search every corner of this place!

Hong-joo has abandoned her duties as the Mother of the Hall of Stars.

Look through everything!

She threatened the royal family with black magic

and created a monster like the Red Robe

to kill innocent people.

Did you want to live that badly?

I thought you had someone to back you up

when you threatened me like that.

Look at you now.

Say something.

Why are you so silent?

Are you repenting on what you have done?

Yes, Your Majesty.

I am repenting my sins.

Are you?

But

your sins are far too big

for me to forgive.

I sentence you to be burned at the stake.

You've threatened the royal family with black magic

and created chaos

by using the Red Robe.

I will burn you in front of everyone.

I shall regain the dignity of the royal family

which you have disgraced.

I am grateful that Your Majesty is allowing me

such an intriguing death.

Will Father be all right?

He probably

wants you to worry about yourself for now.

Yeon-hee.

There isn't much time

until the North Star disappears.

Yeon-hee, I have some bad news.

His majesty sentenced Hong-joo to be burned at the stake.

Isn't that good news?

Hong-joo can't die.

When Yeon-hee lifts the curse by lighting the rest of the candles,

the curse will return to Hong-joo.

She needs to die with the curse

for Yeon-hee to be completely free from her curse.

-You must not enter. -You must leave.

-What authority do you have... -Your Majesty.

Leave.

You must have gone mad

to barge into my chambers like this.

Do I seem like your friend?

I apologize, Your Majesty.

There is something you must know.

What is it?

I ask you to reconsider your order.

Hong-joo must not be burned at stake.

What?

She is an evil woman

who toyed with me and tempted the Royal Court.

I should have her killed right this second.

Why must she live?

What is your reason?

If Hong-joo dies,

the princess will not be able to lift her curse.

What are you talking about?

You must burn Hong-joo to death

when the princess' curse transfers to her.

If the source of her curse is gone, the princess will also die.

Are you saying that I can't kill her

even when I have her in the palm of my hands?

How is she to pay for her sins?

Your Majesty, I will make sure Hong-joo pays for her sins.

Was it not I who lifted your curse?

I will also lift the princess' curse.

Please,

do not sentence her to death, Your Majesty.

My dear.

My dear.

The baby

is in danger.

My dear.

The baby

will be in danger.

Are you all right?

Do you feel ill?

Tell me.

What happened?

My days

are numbered.

What do you mean?

The North Star will disappear soon.

I have about ten days left.

If I fail to dispel the curse before that...

No, that can't be right.

I will not lose you

because of a curse I brought upon you.

Please,

allow me to be with Jun

for what little time I have left.

I will light the candles

and dispel the curse with him.

I will allow it

but you must lift the curse.

Jun.

Jun.

Get up.

Come on.

Jun.

Jun.

Did you like that?

My goodness!

Gosh!

So,

what were you dreaming about? You were smiling like a fool.

Gosh. What is wrong with you?

Why didn't you wake me up?

You're silly.

I did wake you up but you just kept smiling.

Are you disappointed because I'm not the one you expected?

Who did you expect?

Seo-ri?

-Gosh. -Yeon-hee?

Persimmon Girl?

-Goodness. -That's right. It's the princess.

Goodness.

You're silly.

Come to your senses

and go get prepared.

For what?

The Queen Dowager wants to see you.

I am grateful to you for many things.

I hope you understand why I must say these things to you.

Yeon-hee wants to be with you

but it displeases me

to have you beside her.

Your Highness, I apologize if I have displeased you

but there are things I must do.

I know the recipe for the potion

the princess needs to make when she lights the candles.

Please allow me to help her dispel her curse.

Then,

what do you plan to do after her curse is lifted?

When she lights all the candles and dispels her curse,

I want you to leave her side.

When I asked you to take that position

you declined it.

Now, does that position seem interesting to you?

Although Hong-joo has lost her powers to practice black magic,

she is not one to give up easily.

My only wish

is to protect the royal family.

Is it really for the sake of the royal family?

I will appoint you Chief of Sogyeokseo

because you have been my friend.

But I need you to promise me this.

As long as I know what Hong-joo's scheme is,

I must stop her for the sake of the royal family.

Thus,

you must not betray me again.

Let me extend my warmest congratulations to you.

I heard that you are pregnant.

There is nothing more joyful than the news of your pregnancy.

Thank you, Your Highness.

There was not much to be happy about

because of all the things that has been happening.

Your pregnancy must be a good omen for the palace

and this brings me great joy.

This was a long-awaited pregnancy,

so please be cautious in all you do.

Yes, Your Highness.

Your Highness.

The princess is here to visit you.

Let her in.

Yes, Your Highness.

We will leave you two alone.

Did something good happen?

Queen Park is pregnant.

Is that true?

I am really happy for...

My dear.

My dear.

The baby

is in danger.

What is the matter?

It's nothing.

When she lights all the candles and dispels her curse,

I want you to leave her side.

The baby

is in danger.

Princess.

Persimmon Girl.

Jun.

You seem deep in thought.

No, it's nothing.

The atmosphere in the palace seems so much brighter.

His majesty is cured of his illness

and Queen Park is with pregnant.

It is all good news for this nation.

Yeon-hee, all we need to do is to light the candles then.

Why don't we start by looking somewhere near?

My wish?

I wish to be the richest person in Joseon

and spend the rest of my life spending that money.

What a load of crap.

Hey, you.

Watch what you say.

What did I tell you?

Didn't I tell you that it would be a waste of time?

What? Why?

What is it?

Never mind. It's none of your concern.

Just go on with your life.

Gosh.

What about you, master?

Don't you have a wish?

-Me? -Yes.

-My wish? -Yes.

I just wish that everything will be sorted out well

so everyone involved can go back to their own lives

and live happily ever after.

That is all I wish for.

I see.

If you scoff at me like that again, I'm going to rip your nose off.

The bulgogi is now served.

-Wow. -I ordered this bulgogi.

I've been feeling really weak lately.

For recovering one's strength, beef bulgogi is the best.

No, not yet.

You need to pay first.

Sure.

Oh, dear.

Enjoy your meal, young lady.

It's bulgogi. Let's eat bulgogi.

-What is that over there? -What?

Thank you so much for the food.

Hey.

How dare you try to eat it all of it by yourself?

-You are so annoying. -Let me eat in peace.

-Gosh. -Let's share it.

-This is my dish that I ordered. -It's so delicious. Goodness.

Stop right there.

What brings you all the way here?

I gather you didn't come here because you missed me.

What are you trying to do through my father?

With my black magic being tied up,

I'm helplessly locked up in prison.

What could I possibly do?

Father was trying to harm Queen Park.

You ordered him to do it.

What means do you think I could have used to do that?

I sense that you want to kill me.

Go ahead.

You only say that because you think I can't kill you now.

Strangling or stabbing are not the only ways to kill someone.

You will see.

I will dispel the curse

and lock you up in a curse that is even worse than death itself.

Go ahead and do it.

Let's see who will end up dying with that curse.

On the day when the sun was covered by threatening black clouds,

a princess, who was cursed, was born in the palace.

A white-haired monster with mysterious powers

was disguised as the princess.

That is why a plague has been spread across the country.

It is because of the princess that the country is in such chaos.

The nation will soon be filled with misfortune.

-Have you heard the rumor? -What?

The whole town is covered with posters.

-Posters? What kind of posters? -Yes.

A plague has swept across the country

because the princess is cursed.

And because of her, Joseon is doomed.

Be quiet.

I...

I saw it last night.

-What did you see? -The princess' eyes

turned red.

She pushed someone without even laying a finger on them.

What rumors do you speak of?

The rumors claiming that

the reason for the nationwide epidemic is because of the cursed princess

are spreading rapidly across the country.

What?

Those are all rumors without merit, Your Majesty.

The dignity of the royal family must not be compromised

by this absurd nonsense.

Please help put a stop to the rumors.

You must settle the public sentiment.

What do you suggest I do?

In my most humble opinion,

there are countless posters posted all over the nation

and the rumors

are being spread so rapidly and violently.

It will not be easy

to put an end to the rumors.

The princess will not be able to avoid the blame

unless the epidemic is cleared out

and the nation is free of troubles.

It has nothing to do with the princess.

You should know that of all people.

Please provide her with some assistance.

This is what I warned you of from the moment

you brought the princess into the palace.

Look now.

The moment she stepped into the palace,

there has not been a day of peace and silence.

To make matters worse,

she is involving all of us in the absurd rumors.

-Your Majesty! -Queen Dowager!

The rumors

will die down. We just need to ignore it until then.

Despite my wishes, if you wish to do something about it yourself,

suit yourself.

I will grant you permission to do as you see fit.

However, if anything goes wrong

you will be held responsible.

It is because of the princess that the country is in such chaos.

What brings you here, Your Highness?

I came here

to ask you a favor.

What is it, Your Highness?

I want you to hold a ritual on the streets

on behalf of the princess to cure the epidemic.

Do you want me to hold a ritual for the princess?

It seems like all the blame is being directed to the princess

because so many of our people have lost their lives to the epidemic.

When you hold the ritual as the Chief of Sogyeokseo,

I will make the princess attend the ritual with you.

If the people see

the princess praying sincerely,

it may put an end to all the absurd rumors.

This may be our only way.

However,

-His majesty says... -I beg you.

You are the only person who can protect

the princess and the palace.

Yes, Your Highness.

I will do it.

Thank you.

I will count on you.

Poong-yeon.

Are you really okay?

I came here because I was so concerned about you.

You look even worse than I thought.

Don't you worry about a thing.

You just need to trust me.

I will protect you.

Poong-yeon.

Are you okay?

Are you in much pain?

Let me take a look at the wound.

I am fine.

You need to get it treated.

Please let me have a look at it.

There is nothing for you to worry about.

It is getting better.

I will get over it.

I regret it.

I should not have taken you out that day.

I am sorry.

I could not protect you

when I said I would.

Because of you,

I got to see the world for the first time.

It was the happiest day of my life.

I almost killed you because I was under an evil spell.

Even when I knew that I couldn't win someone's heart over with magic,

I still had hope.

Lift your curse

and prove to me that I was foolish.

Then someday,

I might be able to let you go.

Poong-yeon.

I...

Don't ask me to let go of you right now.

All my life,

you have been the one.

If I ever have to let you go,

don't you think I need just as much time?

How are you holding up?

Are you here to keep an eye on me?

Are you afraid I will turn into an evil monster?

If Yeon-hee dispels the curse,

what are you going to do?

Are you going to stay with her?

If...

If you want to stay as her lover,

both you

and Yeon-hee

will get hurt.

My lord.

I wish you

a fast recovery.

I will be holding a ritual with Yeon-hee tomorrow.

She will feel scared and nervous all by herself.

Please stay by her side.

Now, it's all done.

Do they think I would be destroyed

just because they ripped black magic away from me?

Black magic would have no powers

if there were no wickedness in people.

Nobody wants to admit their own faults

so they blame black magic instead.

I want you to see

what people will blame

now that there is no black magic.

What does that mean?

Excuse me.

-You're here. -Yes, what's going on here?

Why is everyone all gathered here?

I heard that Princess Yeon-hee will be attending

the ritual that is to be held in front of the palace today.

Yeon-hee? Princess?

You know, the white-haired princess who is said to have strange powers.

The princess...

This is an event people wouldn't dare to miss.

I smell something in the air.

And that's money.

Keep in mind

what I have told you.

You must not do anything

that allows people to find fault with you.

Kneel before the royalty!

All rise!

Gosh,

I thought the princess had white hair.

-That's right. -What white hair?

-Her hair is silky black. -Was it just a rumor?

I told you it wasn't true.

-Goodness. -Be quiet.

What is he doing there?

Please cure my daughter.

I plead with you.

-Please. -Please save her life.

Please, have mercy.

"Please give strength to Joseon and its dynasty,

and open up the skies and bless us with stability.

Please.

Please grant us harmony with nature

and let us enjoy your blessing of life."

What's going on here?

Step back!

-Oh, no. -Oh, my goodness.

Yeon-hee.

If you move a step,

this place will be a bloodbath.

-What is he saying? -Please spare our lives.

-Father. -Lord Choi.

Please.

Do not be frightened.

My business is with Jun today.

This is her doing.

It's a trap. Don't fall into it.

-But... -Stop.

Fire!

What was that?

-She's a witch! -It's a witch!

-She's a witch! -She's a witch!

Please don't kill us!

Arrest the witch!

-Go get her! -She's a witch!

The rumor is true!

The princess is cursed.

The princess is cursed!

Go get the princess!

Tie the witch up!

Go get her!

Arrest the princess!

Yeon-hee.

Go.

Do not follow me.

Yeon-hee.

Hand over the princess!

-Hand over the princess! -Hand over the princess!

I should not have kept you alive.

I should have killed you.

Why don't you kill me now

and see what happens to the princess?

What did you do to my father?

He's trying to make a great contribution

at the risk of his life.

You need to think about what you can do for the royal family now.

I will never

fall for your dirty tricks.

That will never happen.

Why are you so stubborn?

They will ruthlessly abandon you when they no longer need you.

They already did it once.

Do not sacrifice your life to fight for such a royal family.

It will only make your life pathetic.

In the end,

you will have no choice but to do what I want you to do.

Give us the princess!

-Give us the princess! -Give us the princess!

Hand over the princess!

She is to blame for the plague!

-She is to blame for the plague! -She is to blame for the plague!

What is it that you are trying to do?

I have nothing to lose now.

I am far different from you who has everything to lose.

What are you concerned about?

You can carry on as you always have.

Doesn't the royal family

abandon those who are no longer of use to them?

If that's the princess,

you can abandon her and find your peace.

Is that

what you are after?

I thought you wanted to become a great king.

Do the people's cries mean nothing to you?

You need to consider your unborn baby, too.

How dare you?

Those foolish people just need someone to blame

and take the fall.

You must know that above anyone else.

All His Majesty needs to do

is to pretend not to notice

and give them the princess.

I am the only one who can kill the princess.

I can take care of everything for you.

What will happen if the people find out

what truly is going on in the palace?

All you need to do

is pass the blame onto the princess.

Think about it carefully.

Will you abandon the princess

or will you abandon your throne?

Yeon-hee must be in shock. I'm worried for her.

Will you go after Yeon-hee and Jun

and find out where they are?

Yes, my lord.

Your Majesty.

Please.

Appeals have flooded the whole nation regarding the princess.

No, Your Majesty.

Punish me instead.

You can even dethrone me.

Do not abandon the princess, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

No.

I don't want to lose anything.

Your Majesty.

Capture the princess

and kill her.

Your wish is my command.

Jun.

How is Yeon-hee?

Jun.

The palace

abandoned Yeon-hee.

I want to run away

to a place where no one exists.

I want to hide in a place where no one will find me.

Yeon-hee.

Let's run away.

Let's run far away.

You and I.

She's not here.

Your Majesty,

I need your soldiers.

The princess ran away with Jun.

If they are determined to hide themselves,

even the soldiers will be of no use.

You ordered me to kill her.

I'm sure you do not want her to walk away.

Allow me to move with the soldiers. I will capture the princess.

Do you think

I agreed with you because I trusted you?

If the princess walks,

the people will divert their resentment towards you.

That is why you decided to join hands with me.

It's all because the king is a collateral descendant.

That is why he can't rule the nation

and that is why the people struggle in poverty.

A long spell of dry weather

caused drought to spread throughout the nation and led to severe famine.

Even a great plague is raging the nation.

-The heavens must have forsaken... -Enough!

That is enough.

This is what the people had been saying before the princess showed up.

But now,

no one is blaming you.

They are all burning with rage to kill the cursed princess.

Why are you hesitating when the princess has taken the fall?

If you get rid of the princess the cause of plague and famine,

the people will praise you for being a good and wise king.

No one will ever look down on you for being a collateral descendant.

I shall order the soldiers to help you.

You must capture the princess by any means.

If I bring the princess here,

please order Poong-yeon Choi, the Chief of Sogyeokseo,

to execute her.

I heard that you inherited the power to light the True Samadhi Fire.

Your Majesty,

I beg you.

Please do not order me to do that.

I am sure you will blame me.

No,

you will blame me for the rest of your life.

But

I have no other choice.

I am asking for your help one last time.

I am finally free from all the slander and criticism.

This is a chance

for me to be recognized as the king.

If the blame is shifted to the princess,

will you really be

the king you wanted to be?

Yes.

That's right.

So,

if Hong-joo brings the princess to me,

I shall order you to set her on fire.

Your Majesty.

You must.

Poong-yeon,

you must obey my order.

If you disobey me again,

I will kill you

with my own hands.

BOOK OF CURSES

I am well aware

that this is not everything.

I'm talking about the Book of Curses.

What are you hiding from me?

You can no longer

reject me, my lord.

I also don't want to turn my back on you anymore.

Tell me what you want

from me.

I want the last page

of the Book of Curses.

Bring me

the last page.

SECRET HEALER

You need to return the thing I asked you to keep for me.

Please come to your senses.

Do you think you can wield your sword into me?

I will always treasure the time we spent together.

Just like this moment.

I could never hurt you, my lord.

Give me back the last page of the Book of Curses.

You should push away the evil whispers.

Why are you risking your life to lift the curse?

Those you risked your life for have abandoned you.

Is there really nothing I can do for Yeon-hee?

Jun!

What is it you fear?

Your pain and suffering all started from this place.

Pay them back by leaving them with your curse.

Why do I have to fall victim to your distorted greed?

This is all your fault and you will pay for it with your life.

Why do the ones I love have to die?
