I had to put my wellies on and make

the arduous mossy trip to the B-stage.

Just wanted to be a little bit closer to you guys back here.

I've always loved coming to Seattle, by the way.

I've been coming here a long time, and, uh...

Your evergy is amazing,

and it also tells me there's a lot of people in this room

that have been with me since day one.

On all the twists and turns of the journey.

And thank you so much for going on this journey with me

as I just explore what feeds me creatively,

and you guys, you come along

and sometimes bring other new people

and... I don't know. I just love it.

I'm thankful for that.

But... I'm gonna go back in time just a little bit to 2012.

In 2012, I was making some really terrible hair choices.

Some really, really questionable boyfriend choices.

And I was also writing songs that

I was being told they were going to go down in flames.

And, um...

I was like, I really want to put this song on my record.

And for many reason, I was told

it wasn't going to be a good idea

for a new country artists to say these things,

and I just had to say I think, you know,

to each their own, of course, but

you know, if country music is a genre that is

built on real stories and real people,

then I don't know why it can't evolve, too,

to include everyone, so...

I'm not doing anything outlandish,

I'm just taking these things that have inspired my real life

and I'm putting them in my songs.

I'm just doing my job as a songwriter, and, um,

maybe the song got banned by country radio,

and it may have gotten censored on the CMAs,

but the love that you have brought me

with this early song means more to me than any of that.
