=The Unexpected Marriage=

=Episode 15=

Since you said that,

I must know the reason.

I don't mean this.

I'm just afraid that saying this

will drive a wedge between you two.

Then I'll become a sinner.

You won't.

I won't punish you.

There are rumors recently that

Princess Consort Song is meant to be the Empress Dowager

and Prince Song the Emperor Emeritus.

I'm in good health

and haven't yet passed my throne.

How could there be a Emperor Emeritus?

Hou.

Do you want to

overstep my authority?

Father.

I don't.

Her Highness must have heard some rumors

and came to falsely accuse me.

It's a false accusation.

It is a false accusation, Father.

I just heard Princess Consort Song mentioned

that a sacred stone was found

in their garden.

Back then, Empress Lv Zhi

rose to power through rumors

because of a stone.

I'm worried

whether

this matter will...

As long as I'm alive,

what happened to Empress Lv Zhi

should never

be repeated.

Father.

I have absolutely no such intention.

I have always respected you.

I would never do such a

disobedient and unfilial thing.

Your Majesty.

Rumors are all hearsay.

If repeated often enough,

it is inevitable to become tweaked.

I believe

Prince Song has no intention to fight for power.

It started because of a rumor.

If we take it seriously,

it will surely cause panic among people.

Please investigate it.

You are young

but quite bold.

My words don't carry much weight,

but I'm frank and forthright.

Father.

Jing.

I don't know

what did Changsheng do

to upset you.

She's new here and doesn't know the rules.

Please forgive her, Father.

I heard you were injured a few days ago.

Father, where did you hear this rumor?

I'm fine.

I didn't get hurt.

Lv Jing.

You are injured.

Everyone is saying you're injured.

Where are you hurt?

My brother is so weak.

You can't even stand steady now.

Let me go.

Hou.

Stop messing around.

Jing, sit down.

You've heard of

the rumor about Changsheng, right?

Father.

I also think there is something fishy about it.

I think a spy

wants to use the peace-making marriage

to disturb people and cause disputes.

Then they can swoop in

and harm our people.

I wanted to find out the truth and report it to you.

Who'd know this rumor

actually reached the palace so quickly?

Jing, do you have any clues?

Father, I think

it doesn't have to be so complicated.

This kind of gossip stirs up disputes.

Probably it's not someone from our family.

Wan, what do you think?

I think

even a woman knows

rumors should not be believed.

You're the Emperor

and is blessed by heaven,

naturally, you will not be fooled by villains.

As for the conspiracy in the court,

I believe you're perceptive of the slightest.

Father.

I think this is a simple matter.

Since ancient times, rumors

cannot be fully believed.

But it can't...

Can't you give me some peace?

Father, this matter is groundless.

If you blame Hou

because of this rumor,

it's unfair.

Why not take this opportunity

to smooth things over

and let the people in the palace

stop relaying the erroneous information?

What do you think, Father?

Pass my order.

If anyone gossips

in the palace again,

they will be punished heavily.

Yes.

- As you wish, father. - As you wish, father.

(Fine Spirits of the Universe)

Princess Royal.

Prince Qin is here.

Aunt, you're in a good mood.

People were praising Wu's landscape paintings.

I also liked it after seeing it.

So I'm copying it

as a relaxation.

Aunt.

That's a pretty good drawing of yours.

I know you well.

You know nothing about calligraphy and painting.

You do know me.

Why did you come here today?

Changsheng brought you a painting

as a token of gratitude.

I'll take the painting.

But no need to thank me.

Is there anything you want?

Last time I met Father,

you told me the palace rumors in advance,

and asked me to be vigilant.

In the Imperial Garden, you defended Changsheng.

I came to thank you.

I'm afraid this

isn't all you came here for.

Indeed, I have another favor to ask.

Tell me.

Changsheng got out of trouble

in front of Father this time.

But I'm worried I won't protect her

next time.

The people in Fuyu are open,

and Her Highness is a free spirit.

But Great Tang is strict.

You should have thought of these contradictions long ago.

I was careless.

I thought I could protect her.

It's just that the situation is unstable now.

Danger lurks on every side.

If she always stays by my side,

there is always danger.

So I want to ask you

to help me.

In this case,

let her come to Xiuwen Hall to compile books.

Last time I noticed

she has great literary skills.

Coming to my place to compile books

can help her calm her mind.

It can also be a great help to me.

Aunt, thank you.

(Prince Qin's Mansion)

- It's done. - Your Highness.

Is there anything special

about this painting?

Is it

a hard-to-find masterpiece

or the work of a great painter?

Princess Royal.

Invite Princess Consort Qin to the study to appreciate the painting.

Yes.

Invite Princess Consort Qin to appreciate the painting?

What happened Prince Qin?

I don't know.

Since yesterday

she returned from Princess Royal's palace,

he's been staring at the painting in a daze.

Is there anything wrong with this painting?

I don't see any problem.

Are there secrets

hidden inside?

Or

Princess Royal hid something in it?

Hid something?

I only asked him to thank Princess Royal.

Why did he bring back another painting?

Could it be that Princess Royal has something to say to me?

After returning yesterday,

what else did he say?

He also said

invite Princess Consort Qin to the study to appreciate the painting.

Yesterday,

how was your talk with Princess Royal?

Does she have something to tell me?

Is she not satisfied with my painting?

Or

she blamed you

for something?

What on earth did she say?

If you still don't talk,

I'm leaving.

Come and see.

This is Wu's landscape painting Princess Royal copied.

From technique to craft,

everything is superior

for a copying work.

But the most rare thing is

it integrates the essences

of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism.

It's just wonderful.

Princess Royal's painting skills are really amazing.

Although it is a copy,

it still shows ingenuity.

Good taste.

Previously, you had a hobby of collecting rare books in Fuyu.

Recently, I have heard

you're interested in the culture

and craftsmanship of Great Tang.

Do you know

there is a place in Great Tang

where a variety of unique books are collected?

Where?

Princess Royal's Xiuwen Hall.

Xiuwen Hall?

Princess Royal is the only daughter of the late emperor

and also the youngest sister of Father.

She is usually gentle,

doesn't like to compete, only loves ancient books.

She developed Xiuwen Hall

on her own.

The hall

houses a variety of books

that record the history and skills of Great Tang.

There is no precedent for women serving as officials in our country,

but

she relied on her own strength

to gain a foothold in the court.

She really makes women proud.

She also helped me out in front of His Majesty.

I really should visit her in person.

I want to see

what is this Xiuwen Hall like too.

Princess Royal is usually busy with the trivial matters of Xiuwen Hall.

She has very little free time.

But it's not hard to get in.

I can get in too?

Certainly.

Then I will meet Princess Royal tomorrow.

Do you think the moon

is round

or square?

If you say it's round,

it's round.

If you say it's square,

it's square.

If you can tell a lie vividly

and beautifully,

you can also make people believe

it's true.

Princess Royal has a gentle personality and isn't competitive.

Princess Royal is talented

and compassionate.

- Tough break for Her Highness. - Tough break for Her Highness.

Your Highness.

Arrange Her Highness to go to Xiuwen Hall tomorrow.

Notify Princess Royal in advance.

Yes.

I'll leave the rest

to Princess Royal.

(Prince Song's Mansion)

It's over.

It's all over.

It's all over.

Go.

Leave.

It's all over.

Lv Hou.

You still know how to come back?

And you dared to drink outside.

What are you going to do?

What's wrong with me drinking a little?

It's because of you...

If it weren't for you...

If it weren't for you, I...

What's wrong?

The plan failed?

It's all your fault.

You had to mention the stone.

Now the plan is all ruined.

What are you saying?

What does Liu Changsheng have to do with the sacred stone?

It's all because of you.

You had to tell her about the sacred stone.

Well, in the Imperial Garden,

Lv Jing and Liu Changsheng

just checkmated me.

If it weren't for you,

Father wouldn't fear me so much now.

I'm afraid that in this life...

In this life, I'll

have no chance of taking the throne.

Honey.

Honey.

What's wrong with you?

What's wrong?

Be gentle.

No, no, honey.

You don't need to feel guilty

about this.

Maybe I'm better off

without being the Emperor.

It's tiring anyway.

I just hope that you will

treat me better

and more gently.

Come on, please get up.

Who feels guilty?

I'm mad at you.

I'm mad at you for not being good enough.

You spend your days drinking and partying.

You're just a loser.

You're a lecher.

I'm gonna kill you.

Alright, honey.

I was wrong.

I really know I'm wrong.

This time,

we're just unlucky.

Next time.

Next time I'll win

fair and square.

Alright, alright.

Don't be angry.

(Huadeng Pavilion)

Your Highness.

If you still don't know what to give Princess Royal,

we're gonna be late.

I know.

I originally liked this

agarwood bracelet the most.

Your Highness, that's it.

But

bracelet is jewelry.

Princess Royal is a heroine.

How about this white porcelain tea set?

Princess Royal is so literate.

She definitely drinks tea.

No, no.

Princess Royal has a noble status.

She must have seen all kinds of tea sets.

Hush.

That's it.

You scared me. What are you doing here?

Today is your first time meeting Princess Royal.

Of course I should come see you.

Why choose this?

Is there nothing

more suitable for this?

Then why did you pick it?

If according to your statement,

Princess Royal compiles books all year round,

she'll use lots of the four treasures of the study.

Jewelry is expensive,

but it must not be what she wants.

It's better to give her the most practical thing.

It is also what she needs the most.

You're quite thoughtful.

Then let's go.

Changsheng.

Do you want me to go with you?

No need.

Don't worry.

I will make a very good first impression

on Princess Royal.

She'll feel like we're old friends.

Good.

(She won't feel you're her old friend.)

(It's more like throwing yourself to the wolves.)

(Xiuwen Hall recently acquired 73 volumes of ancient medical books)

(Princess Royal requires an imperial physician who is knowledgeable and hardworking)

What's the use of you looking at me?

Choose the person first.

This is indeed a great thing

for the benefit of the country and the people.

Doctor Ma.

You have always been patriotic.

I think you're

the best candidate for this.

I...

I am old and in poor health,

and often dim-sighted.

It's not suitable.

It is.

Doctor Yuan.

Your medical skills are superb.

You're also appreciated by Princess Royal.

Please don't refuse.

- No, this... - Don't refuse.

Xiuwen Hall

is incredibly busy.

I have parents and children to take care of.

How can I manage?

Wait, wait.

Doctor Zhang.

You are suitable

for this matter.

Well...

How can I be suitable for this?

Zilv is here.

- Zilv is here. - Zilv. Zilv.

Zilv, this is a big thing.

This is a great chance to establish your name.

Zilv, you are suitable.

- Zilv. - Look at this.

What's this?

This is a great thing.

- And only you can do it. - Yes.

Xiuwen Hall has a batch of medical books to be compiled recently.

Princess Royal requests the Imperial Academy of Medicine

to send someone capable to compile them.

She specially mentioned you.

This is a great honor.

Yes, that's a good thing.

Xiuwen Hall has a collection of numerous books

and countless classics.

It's a good place to cultivate yourself.

- Really? - Of course.

Of course it's true.

Such a good thing.

We all want to go.

- Right. - Yeah.

Zilv, everyone knows

Princess Royal prefers you.

It would be most appropriate

for you to finish this job.

- That's right. - Mr. Xiao.

It's a rare opportunity.

No more hesitation!

It can only be you.

Oh, well.

It's a deal.

(Library)

So this is Xiuwen Hall?

Come and sit down.

I got up late this morning.

If Princess Royal finds out,

I'll get scolded again.

I missed one book yesterday.

If Princess Royal finds out,

I'll get punished.

It's no problem.

I have one more copy.

You take it for emergency.

Give it back to me later.

Princess Royal is really amazing.

She could manage

such a large Xiuwen Hall so well.

Princess Changsheng.

I'm Princess Royal's personal maid.

Just call me Lingzhi.

Miss Lingzhi.

I came here today to visit Princess Royal.

This is the gift I prepared.

I want to present it to her in person.

Please tell Princess Royal for me.

Princess Royal already knew

you were coming.

But she is calling a morning meeting now.

Please let me pass on the gift to you.

Please change your clothes

and wait here, Your Highness.

Change my clothes?

This is the rule of Xiuwen Hall?

I am just following orders.

(Library)

(Library)

Xiuwen Hall's clothes

look quite impressive.

It looks a bit bookish when worn.

So many books!

Now that Your Highness has changed clothes,

let's get started.

Start?

Start what?

Please.

This is Xiuwen Hall.

Naturally, you should start compiling books.

(The Honest Supervisor Wan)

These two piles of books are today's work.

The pile on the left needs to be sorted and filed.

The pile on the right needs to be copied and proofread.

All necessary tools are ready.

Your Highness, are you ready to start?

Wait.

I am here to visit Princess Royal today,

not to compile books.

Are you mistaken, Miss Lingzhi?

It is indeed Princess Royal' order.

I don't know

the exact reason.

I know.

Your Highness, what do you know?

Is this

the test given to me by Princess Royal?

She wants to test

whether I'm visiting sincerely.

Maybe she's

observing me somewhere,

see if I can pass the test.

Your Highness, you're overthinking.

This is just a routine book compiling work.

It's not a test.

Keeping it secret.

I understand.

But Princess Royal

asked me

to specify the rules of Xiuwen Hall to you.

Xiuwen Hall

is not a place where ordinary people can enter.

The compilers who work here

were also carefully selected.

This time, Prince Qin specifically required this.

If Your Highness does not do your best,

I am afraid that we'll fail the trust of Prince Qin.

It will also lose Fuyu's face.

That's for sure.

(So clean.)

(No dust at all.)

(I miscalculated.)

(Although I'm a cultured person,)

(this ancient book is too old.)

(I know every word here,)

(but combined together,)

(I can't understand it at all.)

(It's all Greek to me.)

(Since it is a test,)

(what matters is my attitude.)

(Although I don't understand the meaning,)

(it's better to flip through it first.)

(Numerology Exploration)

This is too difficult.

Do you know what is book compiling?

Princess Royal.

I'm asking you.

Do you know what is book compiling?

It means

to organize books into volumes

for easy reading.

Since you don't know what is book compiling,

coming to my place

is a waste.

If I said anything wrong,

please enlighten me.

If you don't realize your mistake,

just listening to others

won't help you correct it.

Your Highness, please go back.

I...

It's all your fault.

Princess Royal looked down on me.

(Library)

Why did you deliberately stimulate Her Highness?

She is naturally intelligent

but lacks patience.

With her status,

if I force her to work here,

it will only backfire.

I have to let her understand

what does her identity mean in Great Tang

and the importance of book compiling first,

then she will concentrate on it.

This is also to hone her patience.

You're thoughtful.

It's her first time to compile books.

There may be many problems.

Bring her to see me when she's done.

Yes.

(A trail in the green hills, a night moon in the mountains)

Disqualified.

Do it again.

What do you think is the most important thing in compiling a book?

For book compiling,

the most important thing is rigor,

the second is meticulosity.

And it's important to comprehend what the ancients said

and make annotations on the side.

I'm not smart enough.

I could only try my best.

You are not smart enough.

I asked you this

because there are still mistakes.

If I point it out directly,

I'm afraid you won't remember it.

You have to go back and think carefully about it yourself.

You can only go home after finishing these today.

Besides,

all compilers in the hall

take turns doing the cleaning job.

Since you are here temporarily,

I specially adjusted the cleaning order for you.

So from today on,

you're in charge

of the dusting job.

I have to complete

all these myself?

Certainly.

If you can't complete it,

copy the Thousand Character Classic.

I thought this Xiuwen Hall was a place of books.

Living here for a long time naturally broadens people's minds.

But as soon as I entered the door,

I heard such an unfair thing.

Are you deliberately making things difficult for her?

Xiao Zilv?

Why are you here?

I am following the order of the Imperial Academy of Medicine

to come compile medical books.

I heard by chance

the conversation between you two.

Book compiling requires practice and concentration.

I'm afraid Princess Royal

is a bit eager for quick success.

What mistakes

did Her Highness make?

Please specify.

If you can't explain,

I'm afraid you're not living up to your reputation.

Mr. Xiao has a different opinion?

Her Highness and I both came from Fuyu.

We're not familiar with Great Tang.

Since Princess Royal has given the order,

naturally it cannot be changed.

It would be better to arrange for the two of us to compile books together.

It can reduce the burden on Her Highness

and also speed up the progress of book compiling.

Xiao Zilv, stop talking.

I'll help you.

I didn't impose

this job on her.

But she has to bear the name of Princess Consort Qin.

Then she must do it by herself.

If Mr. Xiao thinks I am deliberately making things difficult for her,

take a look at this.

(Book of Reference) This book

records the meanings of Great Tang's characters.

But Her Highness

wrote many characters wrong

and her interpretation is confusing.

Xiuwen Hall's work is of great importance.

If I don't care about these details,

if this book is passed on,

I don't need to mention

how serious the consequences will be.

Princess Royal is right.

I should correct my mistakes.

I'm going to finish it now.

I'll leave you two to chat.

What should I do if you leave?

Good luck to you.

Mr. Xiao, do you still think

I'm being unfair?

Did I say that?

I think you were perfectly right.

Just now you said

you wanted to learn about Great Tang's culture.

In addition to compiling medical books,

copy the poems

in here.

Yes.

(Xiuwen Hall)

How did you come?

I came to pick you up.

How much more do you need to copy today?

The whole volumes.

I didn't do

my job well today.

There was no time for dusting.

So I should copy all the volumes.

But your aunt is scary.

I feel like I won't dare to say a word in the future.

No.

I am like this now

all because of you.

I wanted to come here

after listening to your story.

Now I am half dead with exhaustion.

I'm telling you, I'm very angry now.

But I don't have the energy to settle accounts with you.

Then I'll copy it with you.

That's more like it.

(The sun rises and sets and the moon is regularly round)

(Numerology Exploration)

(Cold and heat come and go)

(Huadeng Pavilion)

Changsheng, you had a long day.

I'm really exhausted.

But

everyone has something they care about.

Just like

if someone makes a mistake in the Muyan Forest,

I won't let them off easily.

It's just

why do I feel like a farmhand?

It's like

I accidentally got on a pirate ship.

Careful.

Even the stairs are against me.

I'll help you take revenge.

Alright.

(Pure Like Orchids)

What's wrong?

My hand is sore.

I'll rub it for you.

I prepared some cakes.

Before you go to sleep,

eat them all.

No, I need to rest early.

I have to go to Xiuwen Hall earlier tomorrow.

You should go back now.

Let me rest quickly.

I haven't forgiven you yet

for lying to me.

I'll settle the score with you later.

Okay.

(Library)

(Book of Songs)

(Love sickness)

Princess Royal.

Don't be nervous.

I just came to see how you were doing.

About yesterday,

I was indeed reckless.

Last night I saw Changsheng compiling a book late at night,

I realized that you were training her on purpose.

She can understand the culture of Great Tang

and also govern her temper.

(Reed)

Green, green the reed,

dew and frost gleam.

Where's she I need?

Beyond the stream.

What do you think of this poem?

This poem?

I think it's beautiful.

But I feel a little sad.

The two people are obviously in love,

but a river separates them,

and they can't meet.

The road ahead is long and difficult.

But love is not as one wishes.

Love but not getting it.

The lost love regained.

Or loss of a loved one.

Only those who have experienced this

can write such a love poem.

Mr. Xiao has a similar experience?

In fact, the reluctance

is because of obsessions.

If two people are really destined to be together,

even if they have to overcome many obstacles,

they will definitely stay together forever.

Princess Royal.

Your face...

Are you sick?

You are sick.

No.

Princess Royal, you misunderstood.

I mean you worry too much.

It's not good for your health.

She's hiding her disease.

My back hurts.

My legs are in pain.

And I have arm cramps.

From sunrise to dusk,

from day to night,

I, a princess,

got into such a mess.

It's really hard to compile books.

It's so difficult for me.

Why did Princess Royal arrange so many things for you?

- How long will you finish them? - Here.

Although Her Highness isn't a local,

she can't bully her like this.

Experience.

It's experience.

Be careful with your words.

Do you have any instructions?

Do you want tea?

Do you want some cakes?

Shhh.

Understood.

What does this mean?

You said Her Highness wants this?

That's serious.

We have to tell His Highness right away.

That's right.

- Go. - Let's go.

(I'll soon come from the East, and I should send someone to receive the emissaries)

- Your Highness. - Your Highness.

Her Highness has been going out every day at 5 a.m. recently

to Xiuwen Hall

and returns home at 7 p.m..

The secret bodyguards are protecting her in the dark.

They dare not take it lightly.

How is the compiling work going?

From Great Tang to Fuyu,

in terms of the language, calendar,

and cultural customs,

there are subtle differences.

Even an encyclopedic mind

in Fuyu

needs to take time to study

in Great Tang.

However, Princess Royal has high hopes for Her Highness.

She hopes she will dive into Great Tang's culture

in a short time.

This is difficult for Her Highness.

What does she need?

What do you mean?

Your Highness.

When Her Highness is tired...

You only heard this?

Your Highness, rest early.

We're leaving first.

(Huadeng Pavilion)

Changsheng, are you asleep?

Changsheng.

Are you asleep?

I'm dying from all the work.

I was just about to take a break and then continue,

but you woke me up just as I put my head on the pillow.

I'm devastated now.

So

you better have something important to tell me.

Important. It's very important.

I'm here to give you

warmth.

Thank you, I'm not cold.

Since I'm here,

let me in to talk for a while.

Please.

I want to sleep.

Look.
