So I asked my

mom why the fridge had an old
rope tied around it.

She said it was to keep the ghost inside.

The fridge was making a knocking sound,

so, she figured that the fruit salad
contained the ghost of Betty White.

What was it? Was a medication, or...

And why Betty White?

She thought the other Golden girls
picked on Rose too much.

She put her leftover plate of fruit
salad in the fridge.

When the knocking sound started,
she thought it was the ghost

of Betty White,
coming to take her fruit salad.

She had uh, got

in the freezer,
to get some cookies for dessert.

She liked to make those ice cream
cookie sandwiches,

but she grabbed the marijuana cookies.

Oh no...

It took me hours
to get her back to reality.

I even had to chase her across the backyard,

she was yelling for Jesus to save her.

Oh, my gosh.

Oh, look at the time.

I got to get going here soon.

You know, I remember how he would watch
movies in your room when we were kids,

and your mom would make us the
pancakes and sausage.

away, I really didn't know what to do

I just did my own thing.

I didn’t really have time
to make other friends.

Moving away from you was really hard.

I think I cried for a week.

I was really mad at my folks,

but Dad wanted to be away from relatives,

so away we went.

I just couldn't connect with people.

You know, I had a hard time
making friends, so...

I never did.

Then, of course, after the divorce,
my brother Jack, well,

he moved to Alaska
because he blamed my mom for everything.

And then we found out that he has cancer.

And now

who knows?

We haven't heard from him in years.

My mother doesn't even know
if her other son is still alive.

You know, divorce changes everything.

I mean, my dad didn't
even have time for me or my sister,

but he sure had time for his new family.

And then about every other week,
my obnoxious sister ends up

staying with us to keep from fighting
with her husband. So,

I make sure
to keep some extra food on hand.

You know, Greyson... you're still a

really good guy.

-You remember when we were young

and we would play in the barn,
and my grandpa would get after us

for using his hay bales
to build a fort.

We would use all his chicken wire and
all his horse blankets.

We make these huge secret caves.

He would get so mad,
I don't think he ever thought

too little kids could do so much damage.

And then you would have to go back
and redo everything

and then come back
and give us that stern lecture.

Now listen, you boys.
-We were so sure he was gonna whoop us,

so we’d hightail into town
just to get away from him.

Are your grandparents still around?

Well, after they've been married 45 years...
I guess

Grandma just decided that she wanted
something different for her life.

So, she left Grandpa and moved
clear across town.

He passed away a few years ago.

that man didn't complain about something.

Usually my cooking, but that didn't bother me.

So anyways he says, well,

Can you imagine saying to a mama,

Now that's a hard one for a mama to take.

So that one really hurt.

So when he left, I just said bye-bye!

So, Bailey, did I ever tell

you how you were conceived?

Well, one weekend
and we were out visiting my folks.

His daddy was home on leave from the Navy.

Grandma lives just two doors

down from my folks in her 35 foot trailer.

So Mama and Daddy decided
they're going to church.

But his daddy decided
he wanted to take a ‘nap’.

Well, let me tell you what the
nap was about.

So anyway, we are in bed
and we start gett’in a little frisky.

I'm going to throw up.

No, honey, don't throw up.

You haven't even heard the good part

yet.

So, anyway, Mama and Daddy

are off at church, and his

Daddy is getting frisky.

All he wanted was sex that day.

So we're lying in bed cuddling
and getting frisky and all this stuff.

All of a sudden,
the door swings wide open.

It's grandma.

I was

so scared that she'd think we were
have’n sex!

Parents don't have sex.

Of course they have sex.

How do you think we become parents?

So anyway, there we are.

Grandma comes in.

But is Daddy wasn’t stopping.

He managed, as Grandma’s telling the story
about how she traded her car in,

and he found a way to work ‘his’ way.

-Oh God.
If you know what I mean...

So anyway, there we are.

He was calm, but having sex
right there in front of Grandma.

Anyway,
finally Grandma finishes her story,

told Grandma how happy we were for her.

And that's how it got me my Bailey!

(snarky) Oh, is so at the end of that story?

-Oh...

I started as the dishwasher at the cafe.

I have this strong urge to ask
if there was an opening for a cook.

The boss said no. So, I wrote about it

asking my grandparents for help,

and two days later...

the cook gave notice that he was moving.

I got the job.

I mean, that's... that's great.

But, you know,
it could just be coincidence.

Well, yeah, I mean, it could, but I mean,
I like to think that my grandparents

are helping me out.

You know, we all need help along the way
in our lives.

I notice you rub your ankle quite a bit.

Doctor said

they'd take a full year to heal.

It's only been eight months.

What happened?

I had this good friend...

bringing groceries in from the car.

So I put my dog in my bedroom
and I put the dog gate up.

Like I've done a million times.

And I go back to the kitchen, and Randy's

bringing in the last of the groceries
and all of a sudden he's...

he's yelling.

So I run to him...

and he's standing there

and he's, white as a ghost, and he's

apolgizing, and...
he's saying that he was texting and

wasn't paying attention.

And I, I...

guess he didn't close the front door

fully before he lifted the dog gate.

So my dog got out.
(teary)

I ran down the driveway and I, uh...

I slipped and...

busted my ankle right in half.

I mean, Randy tried...

to catch him, but uh...

there was a car and uh...

well... he's in the

he's in the backyard, now.
(teary, sniffs)

So I guess it just goes to show

that you can't protect those you love,
no matter how hard you try.

It doesn't mean that you should
stop trying.

or, hey, Grandpa is working on the house

because they are alive.

Just not in our our time frame
and they're doing their thing

in their time frame.
