[Kill My Sins] [This is a work of fiction]

[Episode 21] [The Past Cannot Be Traced Back]

Miss Ye,

the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review

has summoned you for questioning.

Questioning?

I don't know the specifics either.

Please come with me.

[Court of Judicial Review]

Mr. Guo, my greetings.

The woman in front of you

claims to be a victim of the Censor case

and that this case is related to you.

Miss Ye,

what is your response?

In this case,

there were indeed three women

who were lured into the abandoned house

by my mesmerization technique.

Who were they

and are they still alive?

In recent years,

I have only seen two of them.

One named Ruan Qin,

has been gone for more than a decade.

The other

is the woman standing before you,

Lu Danxin.

If one

is the victim here,

doesn't that leave the other

as the responsible party?

At that time, Miss Ye was still a child

who was deceived,

so she could be considered a victim, too.

The person who used you back then.

Was it Yu Qian

or Du Liang?

Du Liang.

Zheng Yuan took me to see Du Liang.

I saw with my own eyes that Qi Junshan

had the abandoned house burned down.

Du Liang, Zheng Yuan, Qi Junshan.

That's strange.

How could these three people

so coincidentally die

one after another this year?

I do remember Miss Ye

being imprisoned twice

because of Zheng Yuan and Du Liang,

which inevitably

makes people think.

They have committed numerous evil deeds

and are insatiable in their greed

for wealth,

power,

and fame.

They bled the people dry

and weakened the country.

I'm sure even heaven

couldn't bear to watch it anymore.

Your position was conferred by Her Majesty,

and the Censor case involves the previous dynasty.

Now there are witnesses,

but no physical evidence.

About your wish to overturn this case,

I cannot make a decision.

Bring me the Urgent Report.

[A lawsuit has been filed]

[An Urgent Report from Guo Yu]

[Zhanlu Hall]

Her Majesty sent these.

Stacked tea

and a leaf.

Stacked tea.

Reinvestigate. [*A homophone for "stacked tea."]

Leaf. Leave. [*"Leaf" alludes to the Ye surname.]

Her Majesty has decreed that,

due to the deaths of Du Liang,

Zheng Yuan, and Qi Junshan,

whom you accused,

and the lack of corroborating evidence,

the Court of Judicial Review

must first verify your claims

and secure evidence

before the Censor case can be reopened.

Her Majesty has decreed that,

Ye Ping'an was previously involved in the Zheng Yuan case,

and after taking up the position,

she concealed old matters.

Her intention is doubtful.

She cannot set an example for officials.

Therefore,

she is stripped of her position

and demoted to a civilian.

I gratefully accept your decree.

[Psychiatric Commissioner]

Mr. Guo, are you sure

that the meaning of this leaf

is just to demote her

to a civilian?

I am not particularly astute.

This is my understanding

of the matter.

Mr. Hai, if you have

any further interpretations,

I would advise you to seek clarification from Her Majesty.

No.

This case

is under your jurisdiction.

I just think

this is a significant case,

so the Ministry of Justice...

Mr. Guo.

Mr. Hai.

Mr. Guo, have you initiated the Censor case review?

I see the news

has reached you.

I volunteer to preside over the case.

This is an obvious trouble.

Why do you run towards it?

There is no evidence.

And it was many years ago.

People have long had a consensus.

And it's a case settled by the late ruler.

What will you try to find?

How will you do it?

Will you make it a small case

or a large one?

Her Majesty hasn't instructed clearly.

Do you have a clear plan?

Mr. Guo, you know me.

I wouldn't have taken it on

if I didn't have a plan.

If there are any problems,

I will not implicate you.

You...

Mr. Guo,

Shaocheng's always calm and confident.

He is a suitable investigator for the case.

What?

Do you think

there's anything inappropriate?

Fine.

Shaocheng,

I will assign

this case to you.

Do you have any objections?

As long as you can clear the names

of all the victims

and Mr. Yu,

I'll have no objection to the arrangements of Mr. Guo

and Mr. Hai.

You are the key witness in this case.

Is your residence

safe?

Mr. Guo, no need to worry.

Miss Danxin

is living in my mansion.

Ye Ping'an,

stay at Anxin House until you are summoned.

Behave yourself,

and make sure there are no more incidents.

Otherwise,

you wouldn't just

be demoted.

Yes, sir.

[Court of Judicial Review]

Soon, there'll be

the Ministry of Personnel's annual evaluation.

If you handle this case well,

I will

recommend you to go to the Censorate.

Thank you in advance, Master.

It's almost the Mid-autumn Festival.

My mother made some flatbreads.

Come to my place and try some

in advance.

Okay.

Two flatbreads, please.

Okay.

I must make another two first.

Wait a moment.

This is

absolutely true.

Mr. Hai,

such an upright and honest official,

took her in.

What does this mean?

What?

It is probably like this.

Mr. Hai had an old friendship with Yu Qian.

Yu Qian died unjustly.

Mr. Hai endured humiliation

until he found the victim.

Only then did he work with the woman

to clear the name of Yu Qian.

This makes sense.

Mr. Hai is truly compassionate and righteous.

If it weren't for him,

such a big injustice

would have been buried.

The most shameless one

is Ye Ping'an.

I kept quiet

when everyone was bashing him.

Me too.

Never said a bad word about him.

Your flatbreads are ready.

Thank you.

Goodbye.

[Anxin House]

What are you doing?

What do you think we are doing?

You all heard the announcement.

How many people did Ye Ping'an harm back then?

It's a shame

to be neighbors with someone like her.

Yes.

No one is allowed to come

here for treatment.

We won't come.

But you damaged her property.

That's unreasonable.

What's that supposed to mean?

I saw that you came to see her

for treatment a while ago.

You must be mesmerized.

This woman

can't even be driven away.

If it weren't for the lack of money,

who would be willing to live so close to her?

We are so unfortunate.

Let's go.

No one shall come here again.

Come on.

[Hai Mansion]

You volunteered to take on this case.

Have you decided on how to do it?

I thought you had

seen my loyalty.

I didn't expect you

to still have doubts about me.

No.

You are already my disciple.

In the future,

we will work together in all matters.

I have no doubts about you.

There's one thing

I haven't figured out yet.

Master, why did you

bring that Lu Danxin to overturn the case?

The reinvestigation of the Censor case

is like this small flatbread. Trivial as it is,

it attracts everyone's attention.

Wu Ankang

has been after Xu Qing and Gong Shao

for

this big one.

Even he is

paying attention relentlessly.

Do you think Her Majesty

hasn't noticed?

So you want to use this case

to cover up the salt granary incident.

You have always been

a good official who sympathizes with the people.

Why do you have to go

to great lengths for these people

who exploit the people's livelihood?

The people need protection.

And the officials also need protection.

In every dynasty,

corruption is being punished.

Yet,

it never ceases.

Shaocheng,

success requires others.

If you choose to be alone,

you will eventually...

Eventually be

like Yu Qian.

Right?

But can the people really benefit

from you protecting these officials?

Without being fed first,

how many officials are willing to work?

And if they don't work,

how can

the realm prosper?

So,

one must have a long-term perspective.

Sometimes the people suffer

for the sake of the greater good.

Don't you agree?

Master, your insights

are truly illuminating.

I am also willing

to do things for the greater good.

Good.

You are intelligent.

Please excuse me, General Wu.

Do you want to ask about the announcement?

I don't need to.

I make friends

based on my own feelings,

not what others say.

Do you know about the camp howls?

I've heard of it.

But has it really happened before?

Many years ago,

I encountered it once in the camp.

I remember

everyone was killing enemies day and night.

The coldness made bones freeze.

And there was a shortage of food.

Everyone was

on the brink of collapse.

Even I gradually

felt despair.

One night,

soldiers' howls suddenly came

from around the camp.

They were tearing at their clothes

as if they had lost their mind.

The howls

spread like a plague.

I quickly pulled down a cloth strip

to block my ears,

trying to wake up more people,

but it was too late.

When it ends,

out of six thousand soldiers

only one thousand survived.

Who would have thought

that it could kill more

than the battle?

This incident will be unforgettable

to me for a lifetime.

So, Ye Ping'an,

if you want to fight a big battle,

your spirit

must never collapse.

Look.

This wild grass

will have different colors

in different seasons.

Green in spring

and yellow in autumn.

But...

But always,

it comes to persevering

and tenacious growth,

right?

Thank you.

If everyone's heart were

as pure

and flawless as a camellia,

wouldn't everything

be much simpler?

Who isn't born pure?

After going through the dirt of the world,

people start to lose their innocence.

Yan knows nothing about the world.

I used to think it was unfortunate,

but every time

I saw the dirt,

when I returned home

and saw her

being so naive,

I felt like

I had been cleansed.

Mr. Hai, for the sake of fame,

you can really overturn right and wrong.

Already, even the maids are starting

to talk about

how you stepped forward

and helped me overturn the case.

I didn't do anything.

It's just that there are too many people.

During the investigation,

news

inevitably leaked.

I have helped you

achieve what you requested.

As you can see,

without physical evidence,

based on a sudden confession,

it is difficult for the Court of Judicial Review

to overturn a verdict.

However, with the letter from Yu Qian

as the evidence,

it will be much easier

to overturn the verdict.

Tell me,

Mr. Hai,

what do you want me to do next?

Her Majesty cherishes talent.

Even Guo Yu can tell

that what happened to Du Liang

is related to Ye Ping'an.

Her Majesty must have known that,

but didn't give her severe punishment.

But if Ye Ping'an's actions go too far,

maybe even against Her Majesty's will,

then her life

will not

be spared again.

Lian.

Lian.

Why did you come out?

Has Lian returned?

Go find her.

It's time for dinner.

There will be a big moon tonight.

It's only been a few good days.

You're confused again.

Hasn't your daughter...

Never mind.

I'll go find her now.

Go back to your room.

Don't wander around.

Be good.

Come on.

Take it easy. Careful.

Lian.

Mr. Hai.

Tonight, Her Majesty and the officials

will admire the moon at the Eternal Pavilion.

So what is your plan?

Then,

all the soldiers guarding Li Zongxu's mansion

will be mobilized.

I want you

to bring him to the gate tower of Changxia Gate.

Holding hostage of a royal member is a felony.

Why should I seek my own death?

Of course not.

I want you to invite Ye Ping'an

there as well.

When Her Majesty and I arrive at the Changxia Gate,

you will take the opportunity

to kill Li Zongxu

and then frame Ye Ping'an.

This way,

the crime will have

nothing to do with you.

Ye Ping'an is eloquent.

I'm not entirely confident.

I'm afraid

she might even turn the tide.

Don't worry about that.

I will have the men of the Court of Judicial Review

on standby in the gate tower.

Upon the death of Li Zongxu,

her guilt will be unforgivable.

She will be executed on the spot.

How can a person

defend herself?

In front of both Her Majesty

and the people,

Mr. Hai is about to

put on a really impressive show.

Miss Ye?

Miss Ye,

I've heard what happened.

Are you all right?

Mr. Cai,

am I still a friend to you?

I am a businessman

who is all about loyalty.

No matter what others say,

I have made up my mind

to be your friend.

Are you here to see Chang Qing?

Yeah.

How is he?

Well...

He's in

and out of it.

You know what? He knows today

is the Mid-Autumn Festival.

This is...

A friend of Miss Ye.

Then come together.

More people equals more joy.

Come on.

So when you saw

the no-word coins,

you actually knew

your true thoughts inside.

The Mei alliance has not yet favored me.

The person who is highly valued

is still Hai Yiping.

To gain their favor,

I must first cut off their right-hand man.

Is it that difficult to say that you want

to take my side?

I think you have guessed it, too.

Lu Danxin made a deal

with Hai Yiping.

She plans to trade your life

for a chance

to overturn the verdict for Yu Qian.

So you guessed that they would go

to the Court of Judicial Review.

I also learned Hai Yiping's plan

through his words.

He planned to take action tonight.

I know.

How did you know?

Danxin sent me a message this morning,

inviting me

to meet at the Changxia Gate tonight.

She said she wanted to end everything.

Li Zongxu will also be here.

I must go.

Steamed pork.

Eggplants.

Black rice congee.

Qing,

they're your favorite.

Be patient.

Just a moment.

Come on.

Try the dishes I prepared.

See if they're good.

Here.

Try it.

See if I'm a good cook.

What's wrong?

Nothing.

I just feel a sense

of home now.

It tastes good.

Good.

Yiping,

you took the victimized woman to file the lawsuit.

It finally gave hope for an overturn

of the Censor case.

The more I think about it,

the happier I get.

That is what I should do.

Ye Ping'an

is quite pitiful.

She was used

to create such a tragic thing.

How did she

get through all these years?

Mother,

this is such a joyous occasion.

Could we perhaps leave the past behind us?

I wish you good health

and an endless life.

Good.

Yan.

Mother,

good health to you.

Okay. Yan, come on.

Careful.

Watch your step.

Take it easy.

Lian.

Lian,

why are you back so late?

I missed you so much.

Yeah, father,

I'm home.

Let's celebrate the festival

with something nice.

Okay.

Let's take a seat.

Here, come on.

Look how silly I am.

Tonight,

there are a few customers

that I need to socialize with.

I've completely forgotten about it.

You guys go ahead.

I'll be back in a while.

It's a good day. Have a few more drinks.

Okay, go ahead.

Okay.

Try my dishes.

Lian,

so you've found

someone you adore.

Why did you hide it from me?

Sir,

sorry for my fault.

I was planning to visit you

on a special day,

so I didn't let her tell you.

It's so good to have you here.

We're all family.

Let's eat.

Lian,

look at how thin you are.

You need to eat more.

Eat more meat.

And more vegetables.

Only then can you be healthy.

Right?

Yes.

Young man,

answer me.

Have you ever mistreated my daughter?

Sir,

how dare I?

Lian is so smart.

I would be glad

if she didn't mistreat me.

Lian

is both capable and intelligent.

She is sure to have great success in the future.

You're

so lucky.

Yes, I am.

Father,

no matter where I am in the future,

I will always be by your side

like the bright moon in the sky.

Okay.

Okay.

It's the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Come on, let's drink.

For the reunion.
