Phil and Jess continue their investigation

into one of the most reportedly haunted places in the country,

Mackinac Island, Michigan.

And this time, we've called for backup.

Dalen, Marcus and Juwan fromThe Ghost Brothers.

They have years of experience in the paranormal,

so we're excited they decided

to come all the way from Atlanta to help us out.

[Jessica] Mackinac Island has definitely lived up to its reputation

and here is what we have encountered so far.

We started right here at the Bed and Breakfast...

-We found an old beaver hat. -[Jessica] Wow.

...which gave us a lot of activity.

-[Jessica] "Dead." -[Phil] No, it did not just say that.

It just absolutely did.

And sensing there was more going on

than just an isolated haunting,

we discovered that Mackinac Island

is one giant Native American burial ground

from the downtown to the shoreline.

Then we met a witness that connected

paranormal activity on the land

with a mysterious anomaly over the lake.

Afterwards, Josh found a possible connection

between the shoreline activity

and one of the many deadly shipwrecks in the area...

where things promptly went haywire

for Phil in the frigid waters.

We saw it, we felt it. It messed with us.

[Jessica] There's so much left to investigate

and we're just ready to jump right into this with you guys.

So the reason that we are here at this hotel

in the first place is that Brian, the hotel owner,

sent us this. Take a look at this footage.

to make sure that we see another curious piece of surveillance footage

that was captured while Phil and I were away.

and that closet is where all of the personal items were found.

[Jessica] It certainly looks like the inn has been active in our time away.

So we're going to break off into groups

and try to figure out what we're dealing with here.

where the ghostly figure was captured on surveillance footage

by the hotel's owner.

They're taking the beaver-fur top hat that was found in the attic

and plan to use it as a potential trigger object.

Marcus considers himself the most spiritual member ofThe Ghost Brothers.

with any potential entity

Juwan has a reputation for running into the fire of paranormal hotspots

If it hits the fan, I know he'll brave all of the scares

and help me get to the bottom of all this activity

that we are capturing.

So this is the camera that recorded that footage

[Phil] So we think that whatever the blue thing was, popped up

basically right from the pole, right behind the pole.

We could not figure out what it was.

-Right. It looked like a figure of a person almost. -Yeah.

I... honestly, when I saw the footage, I was convinced

it was just someone who walked in and out.

But then when I tried to recreate it, I got nothing.

which stands for Structured Light Sensor.

It's got high-tech software and an infrared light projector

that Marcus believes can supposedly map out the presence of spirits,

which would show up in the frame as stick figures.

and the odd REM pod activity,

It's believed by some that it can scan the white noise on radio frequencies

in order to potentially transmit a spirit's voice.

The attic light just turned on by itself.

toward the green room on the second floor.

[Marcus] Activity at the top, activity at the bottom.

This morning when the hotel was empty,

one of our surveillance cameras

recorded a light from inside the room

mysteriously turning off.

-Gotta knock. -We gotta knock.

[Dalen] We gotta be respectful.

[Phil] This is a big closet door.

So what light would it have been? Would it have been the...

-the lamp? -[Jessica] Must've been the lamp.

-That's the only light. -[Phil] There's not even a light switch.

I mean... I don't know.

[Juwan] He about to challenge the spirit box.

We've had a lot of random bad luck.

-[Dalen] Yeah. -It's possible that's just random...

good luck that it randomly got the right number just going through there.

And the fact that you had a beaver pelt hat

downstairs out of all the words...

That was the most,

I think, jaw-dropped I've ever been with that.

[Dalen] But there's only one way to figure out if this whole island

is haunted or not.

-And that's to check out some more places too. -[Phil] We gotta explore.

[Phil] The next day, we giveThe Ghost Brothers

a quick bicycle tour of the island

before making our way to the lake shore.

Allegedly, one of the most haunted places in the area

is the St. Helena Lighthouse.

It actually sits on its own little island

a few miles from Mackinac.

So we're gonna need some help getting out there.

[Jenn] Just never mind me over here.

[Phil] We reconnect with Captain Jenn.

who has arranged a little different type of charter for us this time

due to the shallower waters we're gonna cross.

Captain Jenn, meet the Ghost Brothers.

-Oh, hey. Aye-aye. -Captain Jenn.

-[Dalen] Nice to meet you. -Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you.

So it looks nice to go out to the... to the lighthouse today.

It's gorgeous day out here in the streets.

-Let's grab some life jackets and get on the way. -[Marcus] All right.

[narrator] St. Helena Lighthouse

begins operating 150 years ago.

But it isn't until the turn of the century

when things start to go crazy... literally.

In August of 1900,

the lighthouse keeper, Charles Marshall

is painting the structure

when he loses his grip on the support line.

Having no way to pull himself up or down,

he dangles terrified for hours

in plain sight...

And though he is eventually saved,

he spends the rest of his life in a mental hospital,

ranting about the island's paranormal energy.

The next keeper, George Legatt, drowns in a boating accident

after just seven months on the job.

A third keeper, Joseph Townsend,

also dies under mysterious circumstances.

The lighthouse is reportedly built on the former site of a native village

that was levelled during the British invasion of Mackinac.

Today, St. Helena Island is said to be haunted

by the restless souls of the three keepers.

-[Phil] There's the lighthouse. -[Jessica] Yep.

So, have you ever had any activity over there?

Like, any paranormal experiences yourself?

Yeah. Oh, yeah. I walked the circumference of it

and heard all kinds of creepy things, and...

It's just a feeling.

And that's what the guy in the asylum was complaining about.

Apparently, there are some people that have felt somebody

or something touching them,

while they're over there exploring the islands.

The energy there is creepy.

[Josh] After a 15-minute trek across the lake,

Captain Jenn docks up on the eastern side of St. Helena Island.

The lighthouse is unstaffed for the winter season.

the plan is to split up again.

I'm taking Dalen and Marcus into the lighthouse for a paranormal sweep.

But since Captain Jenn said that there have been reports

of bizarre occurrences all over the island,

Phil and Juwan are gonna stay outside and patrol the forest.

For me, I'm looking for anything that could be mistaken for a ghost.

So I'm looking for signs of wildlife out there,

maybe owls out there,

um, scat, footprints,

anything that would indicate that if someone feels like they're being followed,

maybe they're being followed by a deer

or a fox or a coyote.

I love that, 'cause I'm looking for ghosts.

The other thing is like there could be some types of fungus

that can create a little bit of heat.

Ethel was born in the St. Helena Lighthouse

when her father, Charles Marshall, was keeper.

in hopes that maybe something shows up

in this eerily quiet forest after we leave.

Anything that might explain the cracking branches

or strange heat signature we observed.

Okay, it looks like we're almost there.

After our initial call and response sessions in the lighthouse bedrooms,

we make our way up to the top of the 63-foot light tower

and try to make contact with any of the keepers

who met their demise here.

[static on device]

[Dalen] Are you trapped in this lighthouse?

[voice on device]

-"We're not." -[Marcus] "We're not."

[Marcus] So is this your home?

Do you choose to stay here?

-"Yes." -[Marcus] That said, "Yes."

That was clear.

Hey, lighthouse team, you guys alive in there?

We're actually at the top of the lighthouse.

[Phil] Hey, can you see us flashing?

Yeah, I can. Can you see us?

Yeah, we're heading to you.

[Jessica on comms] Let's get it.

[Juwan] Yeah, they're right here.

-What's up, guys? -[Marcus] Dude.

-[Jessica] Hey, come on in. -What's happening?

-[Marcus] Ya hear? -Coming here to warm up.

Ya hear?

-[laughs] You guys got some good stuff? -[Jessica] Hello. Hello.

-[Juwan] How's it goin'? -Good.

Honestly...

it's safe to say those woods are haunted.

Really?

We had a branch fall out of nowhere.

That doesn't happen in the woods often.

It does not, not in those.

Not in those woods.

-I'm telling you... -[Juwan] Those woods were silent.

...they were the most quiet woods I've ever been in.

So no wind, no nothing.

Nothing.

[Jessica] I mean, I definitely think we can all agree

-that the island is haunted. -Yeah.

The lighthouse is haunted.

I just don't think it's a bad haunting.

Would you think that the haunting here

is connected to the haunting at-- on the island?

On Mackinac?

[Jessica] Something is amplifying this area

and it's just making it easier

for the spirits to interact with the living.

There's so much activity here, I could truly stay all night.

But there is a ton of ground still left to cover on the mainland.

I feel like we should just give 'em a tour of the town.

-Yeah. -But in the middle of the night

and see what happens.

He doesn't know what's gonna happen.

[Jessica] With nearly half the night left,

we shift our focus back towards deserted Mackinac Island.

After giving the Ghost Brothers a quick lay of the land on bike,

we decide to split up again on foot.

Juwan and I are headed to the docks

to see if there's any paranormal connection to the water.

-Y'all be safe. -We will.

Phil and the others will stay streetside.

According to the town historian, Phil Porter,

this whole main area of town next to the water

could be littered with human remains

and shallow unmarked graves dating back centuries.

[Phil] You seeing what I'm seeing right here?

[Marcus] Ooh.

[Dalen] Anytime we come across any type of like disturbing of land,

any excavating, that type of disturbance

amplifies paranormal activity.

-[Marcus] Most definitely. -Anytime you're displacing things

-that were once there, disturbing things... -Yeah.

[Marcus] So there could possibly be actual bodies down here.

[Phil] That's 100% true. Isn't that crazy?

-[Marcus] Yeah. -[Dalen] Right?

Every time they made a scoop of this dirt,

there could be bones coming out of there.

[Marcus] Yeah.

I guess we run a little Spirit Box...

-Yeah. -...situation.

[Jessica] Okay, we have a few questions to ask.

It sounded like it.

Let's just-- Play it back.

Like, the last 30 seconds.

[Marcus] It kind of sounded like it.

Juwan, you good?

Man, I appreciate you checking on me, Wildlife.

I'm holding it down.

So, the reason we're checking on you

is... you guys wanna tell him?

Yeah. On the Spirit Box, it literally said, "Run to Juwan."

-Wait a second. -What?

Every time you walk through downtown Mackinac,

you walk with the dead, literally.

Almost every new construction project here uncovers ancient bones.

A 2011 excavation for a hotel uncovered a mass grave

of ancestors of the Chippewa tribe,

who were later given a proper burial.

But the greatest number of bodies

were reportedly discovered beneath the island's famous Grand Hotel.

When it was built in 1887,

the construction crew discovered so many skeletons

that they allegedly lost count.

And perhaps that's why the Grand Hotel

is notoriously haunted

with fabled ghosts like the Woman in Black,

who has been seen walking her dog on the hotel's porch.

Even happy hour is said to feature apparitions with the libations.

The bar is supposedly haunted by a top-hat-wearing ghost.

But, who knows?

Maybe witnesses have just been overdoing it on the red rum.

[Jessica] Did you get that recorded?

Were you guys recording that?

-Yes. -[Phil] Yeah, we definitely were.

So, yeah, we called you the second we heard the name "Juwan."

So that's kind of crazy.

Can we actually be summoning activity on another part of the island?

[Jessica] I mean, it's an island.

It's all connected.

Nothing that happened on the island

wouldn't affect everyone here.

[Juwan] Right.

[Jessica] So, yeah, I don't see why it wouldn't be connected.

[Phil] After the crazy Spirit Box message

that possibly referenced Juwan,

we decide to reunite for safety in numbers.

[Jessica] Hey, so you guys see that fort up there?

-[Ghost Brothers] Yeah. -So, I met a historian up there

and we were standing up top

and he pointed down to this area where the park is

and he mentioned that this whole area right here,

there's probably bodies left behind

'cause that's where the old cemetery used to be.

Not only that, but that is where the battles took place.

So definitely a few fallen soldiers.

And that this is also, all along the water,

where the Native Americans buried their dead when they were here.

So we're like walking on a bunch of dead bodies right now.

-Yes. -And there were a lot of battles over that fort.

-[Jessica] Yeah, quite a few. -[Phil] So...

[Phil] And you could imagine this would probably be the battle front

if they're comin' in from the water.

-[Juwan] Yeah. -[Jessica] Absolutely.

[Jessica] Given its history, this area of the island

just might be the epicenter for human remains

and restless souls.

We're still in the same general area

as where the graveyard would be.

So in an attempt to make contact,

we unveil our most powerful tool,

the REM Portal.

It's a cutting-edge and powerful hybrid device,

fusing the REM Pod, the Spirit Box,

and an EMF detector.

It's like a roll call.

Is there someone specifically who'd like to talk to us?

This just feels like it's a gathering spot.

I mean, almost like a portal.

That's why we're hearing all these names.

I just heard "a different time."

It feels like a whole bunch of people

are just passing through this place right now.

It's like a paranormal bus stop.

[device beeping]

-Is that the REM Pod? -Oh, REM Pod.

Paranormal bus stop.

[Phil] Are you watching us right now?

[device beeping]

-And now the REM Pod's goin' off. -And the REM Pod goes off.

[Dalen] I mean, it's a paranormal hotspot.

-[Jessica] Yeah. -You can't deny it.

-[Jessica] It's a crossroads. -Yes.

[Josh] My team came to Mackinac Island

hellbent at the chance to challenge

its infamous paranormal reputation.

[man] A lot of folks experience

someone sitting on the end of their bed.

[Josh] And with the help of the Ghost Brothers...

Is whatever spirit up here connected to what's in the basement?

[Josh] ...it was one of our most exhaustive investigations yet.

Jess and Phil were unable to debunk

the bed and breakfast's ghostly surveillance video

that prompted the investigation.

Moreover, the ensuing light anomalies

both inside the B and B and observed offshore

defy any easy explanation.

The inexplicable REM Pod and SLS activity

that followed...

...and the compelling Spirit Box answers

during the call and response sessions

are difficult to brush aside as mere coincidence.

the attic closet door opening on its own,

despite a working latch and thick carpeting.

[Josh] Equally perplexing was what the trail cameras captured in the forest

next to the St. Helena Lighthouse.

In the ensuing hours, we observed

absolutely nothing.

There was no animal movement of any kind

that could account for the cracking branch...

[branch cracking]

...or the strange heat signature in the deafly quiet woods.

[Phil] It's really unusual.

[Josh] As for the downtown area,

the REM Portal announcing words like "ghost"...

[voice on device]

-[Dalen] "Ghost." -"Ghost."

...led us to follow up on the list of names that emanated from the device.

Is there anybody from the fort with us?

[voice on device]

-"Dylan"? -[Juwan] "Dylan."

[Josh] The team was shocked to learn...

that each is associated with a now-deceased former resident of the island.

Add all that up, and it's easy to see

why Jess remains convinced that Mackinac Island

represents one of the most intelligent hauntings

she's ever investigated.

Phil, on the other hand, is not convinced,

believing a ghost-town reputation

can easily lead to unfounded paranormal conclusions.

So, which is it?

Perhaps, join the many tourists,

and visit Mackinac for yourself.
