on Catalina Island.

Off the coast
of southern California,

a global hotspot for UFOs

and USOs,

unidentified submerged
objects,

which includes the now iconic
USS Nimitz event.

When the U.S. Navy captured

an anomalous Tic Tac-shaped
craft on camera

flying at supersonic speeds.

So far, Phil and Jess

have both had
incredible encounters,

including capturing
a strange object

on their state-of-the-art
DAP camera.

There's some sort of
an underwater base down there.

a light up ahead.

You saw a light?

I saw something.

What did it look like?

Saw a glow.

To me it just looked bright.

I'm not really sure,

but it was,

as far as I can tell,
underwater.

So what you're telling me
is you saw an unidentified
submerged object.

I saw something under there.

[Phil] What I saw
under the water

definitely lines up
with the countless reports
of USOs in this region.

Local eyewitnesses
often report

strange and mysterious
lights under the surface

but there could be
a natural explanation.

The only other thing
I could think of is,

maybe if we were seeing
some bioluminescence.

Maybe there's something
moving under the water

causing those phytoplankton
to really light up.

Bioluminescence is sometimes
caused by tiny algae

or a kind of plankton
in the water, which
when agitated

can light up
as a defense mechanism.

And beyond algae,
certain fish, squid,

and jellyfish
are also bioluminescent.

So, I can't rule that out
as a possibility.

I'm not gonna go full-blown,
"I saw an alien USO."

I just wanted
to make sure that

that I wasn't seeing
something that wasn't there.

So, if you saw it too,
I can live with that.

I saw it too.

witnessed bioluminescence

or the eerie glow from
an unidentified object
under the water,

we can't be sure.

The tide is too high
to safely reenter the cave

so, we keep scanning
the water around it.

Nothing right now.

By morning we have
no new lights to report.

But Josh sends us

Hey, how'd it go last night?

Oh, well, Phil
almost died last night,

so pretty amazing.

Yeah, I kayaked
into a sea cave

in choppy waters
at high tide at night.

Oh, yeah. That's not safe.

about the mysterious
blue light we both saw
under the water.

While Phil thinks

bioluminescence is the most
likely explanation,

as far as I'm concerned

these lights are
most likely USOs

and could be originating
from an underwater base.

the guy that we were
speaking about,

Luis Elizondo, the former head
of the Pentagon UFO program,

tracked him down,

and not only is he willing
to talk to you,

he is on his way out to you.

sightings

of unidentified objects
above and below
the ocean's surface

mounting for decades,

the U.S. government

could no longer ignore them.

In 2007,
the Pentagon established

the Advanced Aerospace
Threat Program or AATIP,

and Luis Elizondo
was appointed Director.

Elizondo has had
a long career in the military.

After several years
in the Army,

he began working
with Counter Narcotics

and Counterinsurgency
in Latin America.

And when 9/11 happened

he worked in Counter Terrorism
in Afghanistan.

But his next mission
was to spearhead

the top secret investigation
of UFOs from the Pentagon

until his abrupt
resignation in 2017.

So you were the head of AATIP,

the Pentagon's program
of looking at UFOs.

What made you resign

and go public
with what you've seen?

[Luis] Well, we had
very compelling data

that we have something

flying around
in controlled U.S. airspace

that we really
have no idea what it is,

where it's from,
what the intentions are.

But the bureaucracy
at the Pentagon

wasn't allowing me

and my office

to report this information
where it needed to go.

And so, I resigned
as a matter of protest,

knowing that resignation
letter would go straight
to the boss.

And then he would finally know
what was going on

and the truth
behind the matter.

-And that's not just him
-Ah!

but the public would find out.

Well, yeah.

Because of that,

more military eyewitnesses
have come forward

and decided to discuss with us

collectively, as a nation,

their experiences.

And in fact,
just because of them,

Congress is now
taking this seriously,

That these things
are indeed real.

what they are,

but they're real.

We had our own experience.

I mean, this seems
to be a hot spot.

So, what makes this area
around Catalina Island
so active?

off the ground

and I can already feel
the wind knocking us around.

Why does chasing down UFOs

always lead to me
being up in a helicopter

and having my life
flash before my eyes.

Jessica's favorite thing.

Helicopters, heights,
and turbulence.

So, what is special
about where we are?

[Luis] The first thing,
you have Los Angeles
over here,

when you look south a little
bit here on the coastline,

you come to Camp Pendleton.

Camp Pendleton is where
the United States Marine Corps
does a lot of their training.

But you also have a defunct
nuclear power plant.

The one thing that we have

a pretty good grasp on
within the government,

is that there seems to be
some sort of nuclear
connection with UFOs.

Let's not forget that you
had the Nimitz Carrier group,

right here in this area
in 2004. You had a nuclear
powered submarine.

You also had nuclear capable
vessels that are escorting
the fleet.

That's a huge, huge footprint
from a nuclear technology
perspective.

So, the question we were
having in the Pentagon
was, is it possible

that "Tic Tac"
event was really an attempt
to surveil our capabilities?

[Jessica] UFO encounters
near nuclear technology have
been reported for decades.

Phil and I even investigated
the possible connection
between nuclear sites

and UFOs back in New Mexico.

We saw a UFO!

An unidentified flying object.

There have been 8,500
sightings near nuclear
facilities in the U.S. alone.

But as far as we know,
there are no sources
of nuclear power

beneath the waters
around Catalina Island

attracting UFOs
under the surface.

[Phil] Why do you think
there's been so many

sightings in this area
and under the water?

Perhaps there is a hot spot
based upon where we are.

So, what I have here
is the magnetic survey
superimposed on a map.

You can see
the coastline here.

And we are at Catalina Island,
in a field of nothing
for thousands of miles,

all of a sudden you have this
weird magnetic anomaly.

There's a lot of energy there.

[Phil] A magnetic anomaly
is a variation in strength
of the earth's magnetic field.

This can be caused by large
concentration of rocks
with high metal content

or large metal structures.

On Luis's map,
the red areas represent
a constant magnetic field

and the blue, just northwest
of Catalina, is an area
with a stronger magnetic pull.

Could that be the thing
that's actually attracting
UFOs to this area?

We get multiple
reports and a lot of data

that indicate these things
are somehow related

to these magnetic anomalies.

Right now, we're hovering
over the area which indicated
a high level of magnetism

on Luis's map and has seen
the highest concentration
of USO reports.

Could whatever's causing that
energy be attracting UFOs

and explain so many
USO sightings?

It's the same area where Jess
and I saw a mysterious light
under the water last night.

So, are there other encounters
that are as well documented

as the Nimitz encounter
that just aren't public yet?

I have to be careful
what I say.

I will tell you, there are
absolutely multiple,
multiple other encounters

that are very well documented

with a tremendous amount
of fidelity to the data.

But I unfortunately,
can't discuss those.

I still have
a security clearance.

-And that's about all
I'm prepared to say right now.
-Okay.

[Jessica] After we touch
down, I'm splintering off
to try to make sense

of the mysterious light we saw
in the water the other night.

Phil thinks it was
bioluminescence
created by algae.

But I'm not so convinced.

I need to find any recent
reports that describe
a similar light

below the surface to figure
out what we, and others,
are seeing around here.

Meanwhile, Phil
and Luis head out
to our research vessel

to see if they can find
what's responsible
for the magnetic anomaly

deep below the surface.

A lot of the locals here,

they actually swear
that there is some sort of
underwater facility,

a base, a location.

[Phil] Do you think
something like that
is possible out here?

[Luis] Well, I think
if you look back, even just
with our own technology,

going back to World War Two
and what not, we've always
had secret submarine bases.

We've had all sorts
of top secret locations

to support our war machine.
But the question is,
is it not man-made?

[Phil] The idea of
underwater bases is not
science fiction

and definitely not new.

We've had a naval
testing facility 1100 feet
below the surface

of an Idaho lake since
World War Two.

And near the Bahamas,
AUTEC, the Atlantic Undersea
Test and Evaluation Center,

located at depths
of 6,000 feet,

was specifically built
to test underwater vehicles,
weapons and systems.

Interestingly, UFOs have also
been reported around AUTEC.

If there were some kind
of base under the waters here,

I feel like it would have to
be in that deeper water.

[Luis] Certainly, if you want
to keep something secret,

probably the best way
to do that would be out
of the prying eyes

of your enemy. And
in this case, the deeper
the water, the better.

[Jessica] After scouring
sources online
and in Catalina,

I found an eye-witness
who saw an unusual
light underwater

off the island's
northern coast around
the same time we did.

Andrew Quintana
is a longtime
resident of Catalina

and he knows
the coastline well.

So, I've been talking to
folks around the island.

They said you were
the guy to meet up with.

I've lived here
for about 15 years

and I've seen a lot of things
out here that have happened
out here on Catalina.

[Jessica] Andrew runs
an ecotourism
company in Catalina

and he has led tours
of the surrounding waters
for years.

I live right by the ocean.
I know what dolphin pods
look like.

I know what bioluminescence
look like.

I saw something that
I couldn't really explain.

Were you nervous? Scared?

It was more of a,
I need to assess
what's going on

right now, before I start
thinking I'm crazy.

When you hear someone say
that they saw a UFO, and
they're certain it's a UFO,

with your background,
you know, how do you
call out the BS, essentially?

First of all, do these things
fall squarely within the five
categories of observables,

that we at the Pentagon were
able to determine

are they U.S. technology
or are they something
completely different?

So, there's five observables?

[Luis] The first one
is instantaneous acceleration.

The second one
is hypersonic velocity.

The third one
is low observability.

The fourth observable
is trans medium travel,

the ability to travel,
not just in our atmosphere,

but in space
and possibly underwater.

And the last observable
is something that can defy

the natural effects
of earth's gravity

without any obvious
signs of propulsion,
any obvious signs of lift,

any control surfaces.
Nothing that we would
normally associate

as being an aircraft
or a rocket.

So, when we talk about
those five observables,

does the Nimitz encounter
from 2004 hit all five?

Absolutely. Every single one.

Imagine now having a vehicle
that can do all five
of those observables,

you're now talking
a real serious
national security threat.

Wow.

When we were in the chopper,
you showed us a map
of the magnetic activity.

Like, is that
near us right now?

Yeah. It's actually
right here.

[Luis] Right off your
starboard side.

I'll tell you what, we have
a sonar on board that I think
we should put into action

and just see if we can pick up
anything down below.

in our target zone,
we'll use two sonar scanners,

which will help locate
anything unusual
and identified steps.

where we'd want

And then, these ones
up here actually
tell you their depth?

Correct. The difference
in colors that we're
seeing here,

can you describe
what those actually mean?

The darker the color,
the denser the object
we're targeting.

-So, the dark red
you're seeing there

is the ball of fish.

Nothing yet that screams
underwater UFO base.

Maybe that can be dinner.
if we don't find anything.

I'm up for that.

So what should be the plan
of action? If we want to cover
a lot of ground here,

should we just, kind of, go
back and forth on the boat?

We're gonna make
numerous passes
in the general area.

See if we can pick it up
here on the sonar.
And then we'll narrow in

and get the depth meter
directly over what
we're looking for.

It could be kelp
or small fish.

So, the dark red
you're seeing there
is the sea floor.

And then the shadowing
coming off the sea floor there
is fish.

A lot of fish out here.

So we're seeing more fish.

starting to get
a big target.

So, what we're seeing
right here, that's gonna
show up on this pretty soon?

Correct. As we move
across it, we'll pick it up
directly underneath us.

-Oh wow.
-That is not fish!

[Phil] That is incredibly
dense.

It's on the bottom
of the ocean right here.

That is not a ball of fish.
That is structure.

Look at the size
of that thing.

You're saying there's
a structure on the bottom
of the ocean?

There is structure
on the bottom.
I don't know what it is.

Well, that's promising.

What the hell is that?

That is not small.

[Josh] Phil and Luis Elizondo,

the former head
of the Pentagon's
UFO investigation program,

are scanning the waters
off of Catalina Island.

And their research vessel's
sonar has just detected

an unknown structure
on the sea floor.

Is there anything natural
that would explain
a structure like that?

-Like coral reefs or...
-It's not on the charts.

I feel like, we have to
check this thing out.

tells me the mysterious
light he saw in the water,

wasn't bioluminescence.

We're out there, just me
and three of my buddies.

I'd looked down over the boat
and there was just something
glowing down there.

I could tell that it
was coming from somewhere
very deep.

I was looking down.
And then that ball, like,
got big, it got small.

-And then it was gone.
-Oh, it was pulsing.

-And then it just disappeared?

It was, like someone
turned off the light.

So you don't think
it was military
or anything like that?

You try to rationalize
what you're seeing.
It's either...

The military with some
fun toys they're not telling
us about, or something

beyond that.

Have there been any other
reports from locals
of USO's underneath the water?

Say about 60% of the people
in town have a story.

-Uh, yeah.

And all in that
same area north?

Yeah.

[Jessica] As someone who has
witnessed bioluminescence in
these waters many times,

Andrew says the unusual light
he saw underwater wasn't

naturally occurring
phenomenon.

And the fact he saw it around
the same time, Phil and I saw
an unusual light.

I'm convinced we're dealing
with hell of a lot more than

just some algae that glows
in the dark.

[Phil] Our sonar has detected
an unidentified structure

that could be creating
a magnetic field below
the surface.

And potentially,
attracting UFO's to the area.

On this dive, I'm bringing a
waterproof electromagnetic
field reader

or EMF reader that will be
able to detect and measure any

magnetic fields below
the surface.

[Phil] All right, I'm bringing
down the EMF,

'cause as you said this
is a very magnetically active
area underneath this right now

and perhaps the structure
we found,

could be giving off some
EMF's as well.

And I'm gonna bring
a water test kit, I wanna look
for things like heavy metal,

other any traces of any type
of radioactive isotopes
that maybe we can detect.

More data
is good data.

Oh, yeah.

[Phil] Our air tanks
are filled with Nitrox.

A mixture that contains higher
amounts of oxygen than the air
used in typical scuba tanks.

This prevents nitrogen buildup
in our system.

Too much nitrogen in the
bloodstream can inhibit
motor function

and lead to unconsciousness
and even death.

[Phil] Plus the nitrox will
double our time underwater
so we can dive deeper.

and could have been
down here for decades.

So who knows what else
could be hidden here.

that showed up on sonar.

But so far,
no unusual magnetism.

the mystery of the

unidentified structure
that appeared on sonar.

But as far as identifying the
magnetic anomaly that's been
detected in the area,

I'm still not getting
any readings.

This ship is definitely
not the source of that energy.

the wreck and keep searching.

Look how deep
it is out there.

[Phil] The sea-force soon
plummets down into a very deep

underwater canyon
with no bottom in sight.

Wait. I'm getting
a huge spike.

the shipwreck plummets
into an abyss.

So whatever's setting of the
EMF reader is a lot

farther down than our current
dive gear or physiology
can handle.

sample so we can test
for heavy metals,

radioactive isotopes

or anything else that could
be rising from the sea floor
100's of feet below

and provide a new insight into
what's causing the
magnetic energy in the area.

That was incredible!

Yeah, that was
pretty incredible.

[Luis] That hit I got on
the EMF reader from
the deep water,

something
is down there.

I mean
this is the right area.

And that wreck,
it goes to show just

how easy
it is to hide a giant...

object under
the water.

[Phil] The EMF reading's
didn't come from
the shipwrecks,

so that can't be the source
of the magnetic energy
in the area.

There must be something deeper
in the channel
generating magnetism.

Well, I'm gonna be curious
what this water sample shows.

This is exactly where we
think we would see something.

[Phil] I'll send the water
samples we collected back
to the mainland for testing.

Luis has to leave but the
captain and I are getting our
hands on some heavier tech

to investigate what could
be at the bottom
of that deep trench.

But before
we head out,

Jess and I need
to compare notes.

Andrew told me that,
a lot of the locals have
eye witnessed

craft overlooking from the
shore overlooking the channel
when you were with Luis.

So I'm gonna
head up there.

And I'll keep an eye
on the sky watching
for any UFO's

flying around
or into the water.

Why don't you

And that actually works
out great because I have a new
piece of tech to put to use.

-What is it?
-It's a magnetometer.

It kinda looks like a missile
that you drag in the water
behind the boat.

But it also can detect,
something metal underwater.

At much better depths
and it is more accurate
than my EMF reader.

So really, you're gonna take
out a gigantic EMF metal

detector to try to find
USO's underwater?

Sure, that about
sums it up.

to look for whatever
caused my EMF reader to spike.

magnetic structure down there

creating the unusual magnetic
signature in the area

this high powered marine
magnetometer can pinpoint it's
exact location.

I'm ready to pull us,
so if you can kick it up
to five or six knots.

I'll be able to drop it in
nice and slow.

but it's definitely big,
and it's definitely metallic.

but the shape of what we're

makes me think it may not
be natural.

gonna put the underwater ROV

water remote operated vehicle
or ROV.

It's capable of operating at
depths of nearly a 1,000 feet.

And equipped with powerful
lights and a high definition
camera.

So whatever's down there,
hopefully we'll get a good
look at it.

the ROV in the water.

Let's see what we can find.

Going deeper.

Right now, we're at about
75 feet. And so far,

I'm seeing about
a million jellyfish.

No aliens yet,
though they look alien.

Getting to deeper
and deeper water.

Check this out. I'm actually
getting flashes of blue,
even the bright green.

which is bioluminescence.

Meaning there are things down
there making light right now.

Good evidence.

[Phil] Bioluminescence is
found in a large number
of marine organisms,

including bacteria,
algae, jellyfish.

But it isn't just found in
small swimmers.

A new study in New Zealand
has found that three species
of deep sea shark,

including the six-foot-long
kite fin shark, are
bioluminescent.

The jellyfish caught on the
ROV confirms bioluminescent
organisms are in this water

and could explain some of the
sightings of underwater lights
reported here.

But it definitely doesn't
explain the massive hit I
got on the Magnetometer.

Okay, I'm around 850 feet
down.

Woah!

What the hell was that?

I just got a flash on the
screen and it froze.

Getting no more signal on
the video.

[Phil] My ROV is a depth
of about 1000 feet.

There's a bright flash in the
water, and the ROV cuts out
and dies.

One thing that can disable
electronic devices is an EMP

or electromagnetic pulse.

So whatever that flash was
sent a burst of
electromagnetic energy

that could have disabled
the ROV.

We just got a big flash
on the ROV screen.

Really?

We got a big light
coming across the screen,
and then it froze.

But, whatever the flash was
messed this thing up.

The ROV completely
tanked?

It's still active, but
the video feed that
we had is just frozen.

flying and submerged objects

learn that this isn't the only
place where these,

whatever they are have
been caught on camera.

[Josh] Near the Rafael
Hernandez Airport in
Aguadilla, Puerto Rico,

an object is being tracked
by an aircraft

from US Customs
and Border Protection.

And what the footage shows
is truly remarkable.

The object, which looks like
some kind of metallic sphere,

travels upwards of 120 miles
per hour over land and sea.

With almost no splash.
It disappears under the waves,

only to reemerge without
losing speed.

Then something even crazier
happens.

The object seems to split
in two.

And I realized this is the
part of the show called
Josh explains.

But I can't explain this one.

That also goes for the US
government by the way, and
for pretty much everybody else

We just got a big flash
on the ROV screen

and then froze, like, whatever
the flash was messed this
thing up.

No way. That's...

come out of the water
right by the boat

and go right up into the sky.

and I saw that there was
light, kind of like,

looked like it was underneath
the water and then

out of nowhere,
it just goes straight up
into the sky.

some kind of reflection
of the moonlight?

I haven't rotated or moved
this camera at all,

while it's been sitting here
recording the horizon line.
So, no.

[Phil] There is a chance
that whatever you saw

could be what I got
a brief look at on the ROV.

Oh, absolutely.

I think we scared
whatever it was
out of the water.

and kickstart the ROV?

I'll leave the low light

the ROV, it's working
perfectly again.

Which makes the light
encounter even more bizarre.

Jess and I
continue to search above
and below the water.

But after several more hours
we don't find anything else.

So, we decided to meet
back up at the dock
to take a closer look

at the footage she captured
on the low light camera.

was scanning another portion
of the sky at the time,

the footage I captured on
our low light camera,

represents something
I've never seen before.

A craft emerging
from the ocean
and taking flight.

were talking to us about,

and what Lou told us about,

not to mention eyewitness
accounts,

I mean,

I truly think
there's something weird
going on out here.

You think we are surrounded
by aliens right here?

I kinda legit do, yeah.

It's so hard not to trust
what they saw on the Nimitz.

That's a real thing
that can't be explained.

And you can bind that
with whatever the hell
that is.

has been a UFO
and USO hotspot

for nearly a century.

And the evidence that
my team collected
over the last several days,

only adds fuel to the fire.

Adding even more legitimacy

to the hundreds of reports
that have poured in

from both locals
and military personnel
operating in the area.

Based on the eyewitness
testimony from two highly
trained naval officers

and Luis Elizondo,

the former Director
of the Pentagon's
UFO research team,

these objects
possess capabilities

far beyond our own.

It may not either
be our technology

or foreign technology,
it could really be
something else.

of the DAP camera footage

set up on Mount Orizaba,

found that the unidentified
object was moving at speeds

of nearly 21,000 miles
per hour.

Traveling approximately
30 miles in just under
five seconds.

The G-Force is created by
it's rate of acceleration,

which would surely
have killed a human pilot.

Look, it's over here now.
And there it is over here.

Look, it's dashing
all over the place.

[Josh] Phil and Jess
also recorded mysterious
objects

moving beneath the surface
of the water.

One of which shorted out
a state-of-the-art

remotely operated vehicle,

nearly a thousand feet down.

Another intriguing detail,

is the result
from the water sample

taken in the same area.

The analysis shows

an above average presence
of the radioactive isotope,
Cesium,

which is been found
at numerous alleged
UFO landing sites

around the world.

If there's one thing to take
from my team's extensive
investigation,

it's that the data
they collected,

corroborates our own
government's official stance

that this phenomenon
is still far

from a reasonable explanation.

Similar incidents
are still taking place
in this area.

And even more
unidentified objects

are being spotted
by the military.

So, we've to wonder,

if our own government
is still perplexed by these
objects,

is a more other worldly,

dare I say,
extraterrestrial explanation

becoming more plausible?

While questions
continue to linger,

perhaps the answer
to the great debate,

"are we alone
in the universe,"

could one day be decided
in the skies

and below the waves

near Catalina Island.
