who is a sixth-generation blacksmith
working from the same smithy.

of items at small profits

and Drew catering
for a more select customer base,

it's crucial they buy
at the right price.

Today they're heading
north-eastwards,

where they're hoping
a centuries-old collection

will have items that suit
both of their business models.

He's got a museum in there.

Set in the stunning Yorkshire Dales
40 miles east of Kendal,

Gunnerside became a hub
for lead mining

from the 17th
to the late 19th century.

When mining in the area declined,

many of the workers left
in search of employment elsewhere,

but the village still boasts a forge

that's been in the same family
for over 200 years,

and a museum about the history
of lead mining in the area.

It's owned and run
by Stephen Calvert.

I'm the sixth generation of Calverts

to own the blacksmith's shop.

It's been running since 1795,
er, when, I think it was my

great-great-great-grandfather
was here.

And then every generation since then

have been working
the blacksmith's shop

in some capacity.

A few years ago,
we decided to make a museum.

Drew and Viki are coming today
to have a look around.

It's always nice to meet new people.

Er, so might find something
that they might be interested in.

All these are mining tools.

Some of them were made here,
then went to the mines.

And when the mines closed,
they came back.

Just imagine being down a mine.

"I'm spending ten hours with an axe

They found that it worked better
when it was warm,

so they used
to keep the bloody stuff

in their pockets

because of that

and it'll change his life.

I think that's the final bits

This is a very basic version of it.
They're called colza lamps.

It's a good collection of bits.

Invented in France
by the Swiss chemist, Aime Argand,

lamps like this one
burned colza oil,

another name for rapeseed oil.

And their efficiency
revolutionised lighting

in the early 19th century.

Their widespread use continued
until the advent of paraffin lamps

around half a century later.

Although in need of substantial
restoration, once completed,

Drew thinks these chandelier lights
could be worth around £800 each.

So, it's all down
to money, then, innit, really,

whether they leave
this establishment or not?

these old cabinets is, you know,

even with that one, for example,
you just open the top glass doors

and just that sort of
medical smell hits you,

on a new bit of furniture.

Made in the 1920s

by a Wisconsin-based manufacturer
called the American Cabinet Company,

which specialised in furniture
for dental surgeries,

this piece is crafted
from ebonised mahogany

with pressed glass windows,

milk glass top,
and a heavy marble base.

The elegant materials and design
may reflect an era when US dentists

were successfully pioneering
the use of gold,

porcelain,
and even the first implants.

With 22 drawers
and original glass handles,

Viki thinks it could be
worth around £895.

I'd give you 500 quid for it.

When you're starting to deal
with bigger bits of furniture

I would do seven days a week.

every single day, all week long.

And then I get to open the shop
on a Saturday for one day a week

and do the thing
that I truly, truly love.

is an elite antique collection,

which, due to the price tags,

to Auchencairn House.

So we're gonna go and see
a guy called Henry Baggott.Mm.

I've known Jack, you know,
for a while. For years.

But I've never met Henry.

But I knew he was in the business,
and I knew he ended up in Scotland.

Right, okay.I mean, he's right...

Look how beautiful that is.
Yeah, I know.

On Scotland's famously
beautiful South Coast,

a few miles from the fishing town
of Kirkcudbright,

is the Bay of Auchencairn,

with a secluded estuary
that made it a favourite route

for smugglers in the 18th century.

Tucked away in this remote setting
is another local secret.

A 19th-century country mansion
that's home to a remarkable trove

of rare antique
furniture and artwork

amassed by second-generation
dealer, Henry Baggott.

I've been an antique dealer
since I was about 20,

so it's about 20 years now.

I was always with my father,

following him around,
going to auctions.

He was pointing out
details of furniture

and how they were made.
Going to the restorer,

talking to them, learning how
to put things back together again,

and learning the finer details
of antique furniture, really.

Our stock is displayed here
in the family home.

I also have a warehouse

where the majority
of the larger stock is,

and I have a showroom
with items in showroom condition.

it's going to look fabulous.

That's a fabulous thing."

with the most fabulous
carved paw feet.

Yeah, lovely quality.

Just the best of Regency furniture,
really, isn't it?

The carved feet, the quality,

It's a good thing.

There is a Regency sofa table.

Exceptional form. Really good foot.

I'm liking everything I'm seeing,

The thing for me here is it'll be
interesting to see what appears,

because on first inspection,

it's looking a bit punchy
in the prices for me.

you can get it in,

is I will be listening constantly

and picking up bits of information

for a future date.

So, erm, when we got married here,

I ended up moving up
to live in Scotland,

and we lived in Glasgow, Edinburgh.

And then we came back to live
on the farm about ten years ago.

The decoration is fabulous.

That is a piece of stock.

It's polished at the back as well,
which is nice.

So it would stand happily
in the middle of the room.

The best thing about this table,
it's in the round.

So the work and the finish

are not just finished
on the front face,

front frieze and down both sides,

it's finished at the back as well,
so it will free stand in a room,

and the marble is finished as well.

So as a whole, it really works.

Known as Fossil Marble,
the stone top of this table

is actually made from a type
of decorative limestone

found across the UK.

This particular stone
comes from a Derbyshire quarry

known as the Once-A-Week Quarry,
so named in the 18th century

because workers were paid once a
week rather than once a fortnight,

which was more common in the area.

Dating from around 1840,

Drew thinks
this mahogany-based serving table

could be worth around £1,800.

£1,000, buy it.

The prices at an elite collection
in Dumfriesshire

may be too much of a stretch
for Viki,

but a mid-19th century
Fossil Marble top table

has got Drew's attention.

There's lots of different
styles of stock.

But what I would suggest is that

there is a very clean line
through it all, and that's quality.

And in all honesty,
I'm sort of looking about

and I'm thinking, "Will there be
anything in here for me as well?"

But there was a little table
that caught my eye,

but unfortunately, it's just,
it's priced at retail for me,

so there's no money left in it.

So unfortunately,
I'll just have to leave it.

is the leather back.

Which you definitely
wouldn't want to get rid of.

It's just big, you know.
It's of that size where it was...

because it's such a whopper.

to the frame that you can see.

but diverse locations,

both Drew and Viki
have had their work cut out

to buy at the prices that work

for their individual ways
of doing business.

So, myself, and Viki, and Al,
we all do the same thing, right?

But we all do it differently.
So, Viki has her margin.

She looks at an item,
knows what she's gonna get for it.

She has to work back and buy that
so it gives her her margin.

But my business model is different.

I would have to wait for months,
sometimes years to sell a piece,

and I'm making my money
from my knowledge of those pieces.

That's where my profit comes from.

So hundreds of antique dealers,
if not thousands of antique dealers
in this country,

everybody does it differently.

You'll have good and bad days,
but it's the best job in the world.
