NARRATOR: Previously... We've been intimate.

Oh!

(APPLAUSE)

NARRATOR: It was a loved-up commitment ceremony.

He's someone that I do have love for.

That's Morena. It was so beautiful. We've had a good time.

NARRATOR: But not everyone was embracing the romance.

It's really lovely to hear that.

But I don't feel it.

Oh , my god.

"Stay."

NARRATOR: Adrian was put on notice...

I wrote, "Sorry, leave."

..giving him just one week to turn his marriage around...

It's on your shoulders to really do some big-time lifting.

..and when Veronica caught up with Lauren...

Eliot is a narcissist.

He has literally no depth.

..the ex-wife did not hold back voicing her opinion on Eliot.

I feel so sorry for you. You can do a million times better.

NARRATOR: And then...

Hi, guys! Hey!

..Friends and Family Week

saw most of our couples' loved ones give positive feedback.

Eyes tell everything.

All any parent ever wants is for their child to be happy.

You've only been in the relationship for a while,

so if you need to give him a little kick up the arse,

say, "Where's my compliments today?" (LAUGHTER)

They are not good enough to be in your life.

He is definitely not good enough in my nephew's life.

NARRATOR: But Awhina and Adrian's lunch with their loved ones...

How dare you?

He has not even shown up. Not even once.

..descended into chaos.

I'm just - I don't need to listen to this.

Goodbye. I'm done.

Make sure you leave the apartment.

NARRATOR: Tonight...

(LAUGHS)

..Friends and Family Week continues.

We can see the way Carina looks at you.

Yes, you look happy. You really do.

You can tell the chemistry's definitely there

and I do see a future.

To new beginnings of family. Yes.

You are being unreasonable and I will not tolerate it.

NARRATOR: What causes Veronica to lash out at Eliot?

Do not raise your voice at me.

I've had enough. This is so civil.

I've had enough!

NARRATOR: Emotions reach breaking point

as they navigate the first week of married life.

(CHILD'S MUSIC BOX PLAYS)

NARRATOR: And in an unexpected turn of events,

which couple will announce their exciting baby news?

(CHILD'S MUSIC BOX PLAYS 'TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR')

(PENSIVE SOUNDTRACK)

No. I'm not, I'm really not OK.

I actually have brought up my son a few times,

just randomly here and there,

and that's actually true.

Well, actually, of course, she did.

She's a fantastic mother,

so how about we lose that attitude about her being a mum.

You're the only one that's come in with attitude.

No, I did not appreciate that at all.

When did I say you weren't? The fact that you just snorted.

When did I say...

She's the best frickin' mum there is.

How dare you? How dare you?

You deserve more than this. You know what? I actually,

I'm just - I don't need to listen to this shit.

Goodbye. Pointless conversation.

It is. It really is.

Good. Make sure you leave the apartment.

And actually pack your stuff this time.

Adrian didn't actually mean a single thing what he said.

He literally just said, "Stay",

because he wants to re-control the narrative

and pretend that he's stepping up,

but in reality, he wants to tell everyone how bad I am.

I don't know what I've done so wrong to that man. It...

He came in here but came in here with an agenda.

I texted my twin, saying, "Go easy on Adrian."

And he's told them, "Have at her."

I know how I feel inside.

I feel hurt.

And I can see in Adrian's eyes, he's not hurt at all.

There's no hurt in him.

But no one was attacking.

We were simply asking the questions,

which is what we were brought here for.

But had Cleo not been there,

I think that conversation could've been a little bit different...

I agree. ..more understanding.

And obviously, I'm emotional right now and I'm upset, too,

but I've genuinely done nothing wrong.

And I don't think Awhina is going to see

what her and her sister have done wrong. I genuinely don't.

That was just (BLEEP) draining.

Yeah, I actually feel drained.

Hard (BLEEP) hell. Can I go home now?

Yeah. Oh, it's just too much.

Can we get your stuff?

Yeah.

And leave? Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.

I'm done.

(OMINOUS SOUNDTRACK)

Yeah, I travelled back alone

because I would gladly never be in Adrian's presence again.

Had he just come in and actually started doing the things he said...

..today would have looked a lot different.

(TENSE SOUNDTRACK)

Not really.

I think today speaks volumes. Why would I want to say anything?

I don't think you do either.

You.

Yeah.

(SCOFFS) Don't even try to bring my sister into this.

You might treat me like shit.

Talk about her once and I'll come at you.

You have been this whole time.

How did I treat you like shit today?

Adrian, your family came in on attack mode for me.

It could have gone very differently.

We could've all just sat there and had...

Defend me, that's what she did. She defended me.

Today could've looked very different.

No, I'm not. I'm embarrassed for you.

I'm embarrassed for you.

(SCOFFS)

My twin sister's beautiful and an amazing person

and she stuck up for me.

No, honestly, I don't even care. Don't even.

You're embarrassed of my twin? Well, I'm embarrassed for you.

Leave.

I'm embarrassed for you.

You should be embarrassed... I'm embarrassed for you.

and I hope you guys... I'm embarrassed for you.

I hope your sister is... I'm embarrassed for you.

Guess what, mate? I don't have to listen to you anymore.

How old are you again? "Blah, blah, blah."

How old are you? You know what? I don't care.

How old are you? I really don't, Adrian.

How old's your sister? (SCOFFS) How old are you, mate?

How old's your sister? I'm just - how old's your sister?

Yeah, how old are you, mate? Your sister's making comments...

How old are you, mate? How old are you, mate?

I'm not - I don't have to listen to you anymore.

I've listened to you... Sister's making comments...

..this whole time and, to be honest, I don't need you anymore.

Leave.

Bye. Don't ever come back.

See ya.

(DRAMATIC MUSIC)

Yeah, right now, like, I feel pissed off with Awhina.

Of her and her sister.

Clearly, she cannot see

where her sister went wrong, just like I thought.

But all the time, I've taking accountabilities for my actions

and I've said, "Sorry, I've made mistakes",

and you know, I've stuck by that

and I manned up and said when I was wrong.

And this time, I'm absolutely not in the wrong, nor is my family.

And yeah, now, we'll see

if she's going to own up to her sister's actions.

(UPLIFTING MUSIC)

NARRATOR: As this year's meet-the-family week

approaches the halfway point,

are couples who have already met with their loved ones

are feeling closer than ever...

Do you think I passed the test with the family?

I definitely think you did. Not that there was a test,

but you know what I mean. (CHUCKLES)

You did really well.

I'm genuinely, like, as happy as I've been in a long time, so...

That's so nice.

..as it's given their relationships a new sense of confidence.

(CHUCKLES)

I only want the best for you and I want the best for me.

And we had a fantastic day yesterday.

It was so good.

And we added more things to the shrine as well.

I just want you to know that supporting each other is...

Do you want to dance? ..means a lot to me.

Do you want to dance? Do I want to dance now?

Yeah. (CHUCKLES) I'd rather play chess.

Oh, you're going to dance for me.

You ready? Yeah.

(GIGGLES)

See? I haven't failed one since the wedding.

NARRATOR: While Jacqui and Ryan continue basking

in the afterglow of their meet-the-family's success,

our remaining couples get ready for their turn.

Big day today, Morenche.

Yes.

Mine's the top one, Morena.

You can have the whole thing, Tony.

Can't eat that, huh?

It's all your - I can eat it,

but I normally don't like eating it when someone's double-dipped.

Meeting each other's family and friends

is an important relationship milestone for any new couple.

I, like, hardly slept because I was excited.

I'm really eager to kind of show off, I guess,

how happy we're trotting along.

No, I know. Yeah.

How good we look together and, you know?

ALESSANDRA: Not only is this an opportunity

to connect, seek advice and support,

it's also an opportunity to turn their minds

to life outside of the experiment

and consider whether they have a viable long-term future together.

Family and friends day! Are you excited?

Yeah. 100%.

Eager to see if our lives are going to be compatible

beyond this experiment.

Yeah, that's one of the next big steps.

NARRATOR: Next to meet their loved ones are Carina and Paul.

(SQUEALS AND LAUGHTER)

..who are meeting Paul's good friend, Johnny,

and sister, Anna, who was unable to attend the wedding...

I really wanted to have my sister at my wedding

but sadly, she couldn't make it,

so having her here today

and the fact that she was able to meet Carina for the first time,

honestly, it was just so special, you know?

(LAUGHTER)

How do we do it the French way?

..as well as Carina's sister, Marie, and auntie, Maria.

Is he as good looking as you two?

(LAUGHTER)

Even better.

Oh!

Hello, hello.

Hello!

As soon as I saw him,

oh, I thought he was quite hot, actually. (LAUGHS)

I shouldn't be saying that. I'm the aunty.

Can we get some napkins, please? You've just mucked up our make-up.

I'm hoping to find out quite a bit today.

I want to see if they're happy, if Paul is in it for the long haul,

maybe ask him a few little private questions and personal questions.

You know, he's French.

Want to know how good he is.

Yeah, it's just so nice to all be together.

It is nice.

Though we have so many questions for you guy

and excited to hear how things have been going.

Oh, gosh, let's get the list out.

(LAUGHTER)

So, how are you honestly finding it all?

You know, we've had each other's back from the beginning

and it's been amazing.

We have, we've been a team.

Yeah, we have been a team. We've been a very good team.

'Cause it's not easy. It's definitely not easy.

Even, like, this morning, I was like, "We're a team."

Good, I love that. You really bonded. Carina, that is great!

The foundation of a good relationship and marriage

is friendship

and then everything else will follow with that

and you've got to have each other's back and open, honest, trust.

We can see the way Carina looks at you.

Yes. You look happy.

You really do.

(LAUGHTER)

ANNA: First impression of Carina,

she seems lovely and genuine,

and so far, I've heard all good things from Paul

and he's been really happy

and from what I can see,

it seems like they're still heading in the right direction,

which was really nice to see.

Is there any other questions you want to...

Ooh, yeah. ..you wanted to know and, you know?

(LAUGHTER)

We might need some more drinks before this.

(LAUGHTER)

Paul's looking down at the table there.

So, obviously, you sleep together?

(LAUGHTER)

Jeepers! That's just too much.

Yeah?

(LAUGHTER)

Keep it PG. Nieces and nephews and kids are watching.

(LAUGHTER)

I don't know if I want to hear this.

(LAUGHTER)

My sister's here. (LAUGHTER)

Just answer the question. Yes, we've been intimate. Yes.

The sex life is good?

(LAUGHTER)

Oh, my god. I was like, "Zia mia!"

Oh, my god!

The French, you know, the French are...

..pretty good. Oh, my god!

We can't complain about that.

It's been really nice.

It's perfect. Oh, that's good.

Now, he's blushing!

(LAUGHTER)

I'm not going to lie, she did make me blush a little bit.

I was like... (LAUGHS)

But yeah, I reckon I've put her worries to rest, yeah.

I think she knows that Carina and I are having good sex,

so yeah, I think she's... I think she's at peace now. (LAUGHS)

I like how you like to find out all the details.

There's no secrets there.

(LAUGHTER) Zia mia wants the goss.

She wants the juice.

(LAUGHS)

You can tell the chemistry is definitely there,

which was beautiful to see, and I do see a future, yes.

Cheers, guys. Cheers.

Cheers! Two new beginnings of family.

Yes. Cheers. Cin-cin.

The sex life.

(LAUGHTER)

Oh, jeepers! Now, it's just too much.

NARRATOR: Coming up...

I didn't feel like a learned anything about you.

NARRATOR: Crash Course Week unexpectedly implodes one couple.

Well, maybe that's to do with your ability to...

..listen.

(DRAMATIC MUSIC)

(UPLIFTING MUSIC)

NARRATOR: Our three newest couples have been spending this week

participating in the crash course,

which has been designed to fast-track their relationships

to catch up with the original couples.

I've had so much of this KitKat. You have to have some.

I can't just be eating it all on my own.

NARRATOR: However, Veronica is still struggling with some concerns

about her husband, Eliot,

after speaking with his ex-wife, Lauren...

One of my friends was in a relationship with a narcissist

for like ten years

and what I have learned from her

is that, like, they don't actually have real feelings,

so I do feel like Eliot is a narcissist.

Yeah, OK.

..and the first crash course task

didn't give the insight into Eliot that Veronica was hoping for.

I don't find her really that physically attractive.

Not attractive, not attractive, not attractive.

Physically speaking, not really attracted to her.

Of course.

I don't really feel like I learned anything.

(KNOCK ON DOOR)

Ooh, who's that?

(EXHALES) My destiny awaits. (LAUGHS)

NARRATOR: So, the next task, the confessions letter,

could be exactly what Veronica is needing

to get a deeper understanding of Eliot.

"Opening up to others and revealing our true selves is never easy.

"By opening yourself up to your significant other,

"you become more vulnerable

"and you create an opportunity for a greater connection.

"For this task, you must write a letter to your partner

"revealing your most significant relationship or life experience.

"So, be brave and let your partner in."

Hmm, a letter.

Panic sets in across the room. (LAUGHS)

I like the sound of that.

Great.

Finally. (LAUGHS)

I feel like Veronica wants more vulnerability...

..and I've never been someone

that's, like, overly emotional or vulnerable.

But I definitely have willingness to be open, 100%.

Um...

So, I want to do my best

to, you know, open up and be vulnerable.

Ah...

It's... Yeah, it's a story I've never shared with anybody else.

It would have to be

one of my most deep and harrowing memories that I have

and something that, like, had affected me so much in my childhood,

and it's deeply personal.

I wrote it like a proper letter.

Oh!

"Dear Veronica...

"I do want to preface this story by saying

"this is something I've never shared with anyone before.

"The story goes back to when I was nine years old.

"I'm sitting in a specialist's office in a hospital,

"my mum beside me,

"and my younger sister, Bridie,

"had been experiencing some unusual symptoms

"and was diagnosed with type I diabetes

"and as she fell into a coma...

"..the news hit us like a ton of bricks.

"My mum burst into tears,

"which inevitably led to me joining her...

"..in a choir of uncontrollable sobbing.

"It felt like it was the end of the world.

"There was no hope.

"This continued for what seemed like forever

"until suddenly the door burst open and it was my dad.

"I'll never forget his reaction to the situation.

"He immediately comforted her,

"he engaged with the doctor about the treatment,

"and in that moment, my dad's strength and stoicism

"set us on a path forward.

"The impact this memory has on me

"is I never want to be overwhelmed by emotion.

"Like anyone, I feel things.

"I just do my best to identify and understand it

"rather than be controlled by it.

"I feel like this is relevant to you

"and to our relationship in this experiment

"and why I may appear guarded sometimes.

"Yours sincerely, Eliot."

Cute!

Thank you for sharing. That was very nice.

(LAUGHS)

Were you there?

This was the perfect opportunity

for him to just to tell me something, anything,

and he chose nothing.

Like, yeah.

I know he's... I know that his mum cried

that his sister has diabetes,

and that his dad is a stoic, emotionless man.

I just don't think that he has the capacity

to even look at himself

or think about his life

in a way that's more than just a surface level.

Like, he just cannot find it within him to give me anything more.

Like, this is the second task now that we've been given

that he has been completely unwilling to participate in,

and I'm just like, I don't know what to do!

Oh!

Yeah. Anyway.

NARRATOR: Having been a few hours since sharing his confessions letter,

Eliot has noticed a shift in attitude from wife, Veronica.

What are you going to have for dinner?

I don't know.

Do you want me to cook you steak?

No, I'm OK, thank you.

OK.

After the confessions letter,

I noticed a tenseness in the air from Veronica.

I feel like I was opening up to her,

pouring my heart out,

but wasn't really any kind of engagement.

I want to speak to her

and see what's going on with her.

How are you feeling?

Yeah, I'm OK.

I'm alright.

You seem kind of distracted.

Yeah, I just guess I...

I just thought that it was going to be different.

OK. How so?

Like, I thought that it might be about you.

What we discussed or what you might share

might be about you. Oh, my memory.

I don't know.

So, you're saying that that memory wasn't about me?

Yeah.

Really? Yeah.

Um...

The story is about something traumatic

that happened to someone else

and I don't know how you felt,

I don't know how it's impacted you.

I don't know...

You didn't talk about your own feelings about the event.

I said it super clearly.

Like, I said exactly how I felt...

How did you feel? ..like, in the moment.

Like, I said it in there.

Like, I felt like it was the end of the world.

All you said is the world was ending.

Like, it felt to me like the world was ending. Yeah, I think...

Is there an emotion attached to that?

That's not an emotion. It's an event.

I said...

I said to you when you asked me... How does it make you feel?

Hopeless. That was the emotion.

Is that all?

I don't feel any deeper understanding of Eliot.

I... I'm just being honest.

Yeah. That's how...

That's how I'm responding to what you told me.

(DRAMATIC MUSIC)

(DRAMATIC MUSIC)

All you said is the world was ending.

Like, it felt to me like the world was ending. Yeah, I think that's...

Is there an emotion attached to that?

That's not an emotion, it's an event.

I said...

I said to you when you asked me... How does it make you feel?

Hopeless.

That was... That was the emotion.

Is that all?

I don't feel any deeper understanding of Eliot.

I'm just being honest. Yeah.

That's how... That's how I'm responding to what you told me.

I've just shared something that's like deeply personal to me,

that had a huge impact on my life,

and you're taking that and saying,

"That's not enough for me. That's..."

So, like, for me to...

I'm just... I'm just telling you how I feel.

Me being vulnerable and you're saying,

"That's not enough for me, that's not enough for me."

I'm allowed to feel how I feel about it

and I'm expressing that to you.

I'm not interested in having an argument about it.

I'm just telling you that I don't have any further insight into Eliot

and I'm disappointed by that.

The task was a way for us to be vulnerable to each other.

Now, for me to be vulnerable to you

and then you to turn around and say, "That's not enough for me"...

..like, how do you think that looks? I didn't say,

"That's not enough for me."

I said that I didn't feel like I learned anything about you.

You said, "If that's all you have to give..."

Eliot, can't you just to look

at what I'm trying to say to you, please?

I'm trying to say

that I feel like I don't - I didn't learn anything about you.

Don't you want me to understand you?

Yes, I do.

OK, but then why aren't you helping me with that?

You coming in here, saying, "I'm disappointed..."

Oh, here we go again! Again!

You're just like a broken record,

saying the same thing over and over again.

Yes, but... I'm not interested

in having a boring repetitious argument with you.

We can have a conversation if you're willing to give me something new,

but otherwise, I'm not interested in fighting with you over this.

You are not listening to what I'm saying,

and so, therefore, this conversation is over.

I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. I'm done.

She was trying to make it about...

..like, "Oh, that wasn't about you, it was about somebody else."

For me, it was so much worse that it was my sister.

If it was me, I probably...

It probably wouldn't have affected me as much.

It was the fact that...

..like, that was my younger sister, my baby sister.

For her to just like be like, "Oh, that's not enough,

"like, I wanted more."

It felt kind of surreal.

You going?

What does it look like?

I'm asking.

Maybe, maybe not.

Excuse me.

(OMINOUS SOUNDTRACK)

Do you want to tell me what's going on?

Well, you were here just a minute ago.

Why do I need to explain everything to you? You're not a child.

Well, you... Like, you were literally just here.

You cryptically said... Like, what is confusing for you?

What are you confused about?

I'll tell you if you let me get a word in.

Why do you think that I'm upset?

I don't want to play guessing games. Tell me.

I'm asking you a question, Eliot. Yeah.

Why do you think that I'm upset?

I... I would love to know. Please inform me.

You cannot understand

what that - the whole point of what I said to you tonight.

I don't feel like I learned anything about you.

I... I would've loved to have know

why my most painful memory isn't enough for you.

To think that I would pour my heart out...

You poured your heart out, did you? Yes. Yeah, yeah.

OK. And you...

You poured your heart out? Yeah.

Me pouring my heart out is me pouring my heart out.

I didn't feel like I learned anything about you.

Well, maybe that's to do with your ability to listen

and to try to take on what I'm saying.

Part of this experiment, right,

is us being able to empathise with the other person

and say, right, that in their world,

that is them really, you know, being vulnerable...

..and it's like, "Oh, this isn't enough.

"That's not good enough."

Is that how I responded to you?

Yes. When we sat on the couch,

that's how I responded to you?

Well, you didn't respond at all.

Yeah? I did though.

Like, it's... It's... It's shocking.

Listen... No.

I don't want to listen to you anymore.

It's hard to believe that that just happened.

Thank you very much.

Thank you very much.

I just couldn't imagine diminishing what is important to someone

in the way she just did.

NARRATOR: Coming up...

You all good?

Great.

NARRATOR: Tony has a surprising revelation.

(EXHALES)

It's taken me a while to think about it,

like, to register in my head what I really, really want.

All this is coming together for me.

NARRATOR: As meet-the-family week continues,

next to meet with their loved ones are Jamie and Dave.

It's awesome to see youse.

It's nice to see you too, mate.

NARRATOR: Joining them today

are Dave's mum, Brenda, and his best mate, Steve...

..and Jamie's mum, Vicki, dad, Michael,

sister, Georgia, and aunt, Eleni.

So, overall, like, you guys are happy?

Yeah, no, we are. We are.

Because we've been so honest and really dug deep

and really had the hard conversations,

it's sort of made these experiments so much easier.

It was us putting in all the work

and getting to know each other,

and finding out the core values

and I think that's what built everything.

One of my main things

was I wanted someone to make me feel heard and seen.

And Jamie does that and makes my soul smile.

Mick's got a little bit emotional, I think.

I must admit, it's come from left field.

Like, I wasn't expecting this.

Actually, I'm short of words.

I think the word is I didn't anticipate

hearing what I heard today.

Jamie, being my daughter,

as long as she's happy, you've won me over.

(LAUGHTER)

NARRATOR: With Jamie and Dave

feeling confident in their families' approval,

Morena and Tony are hoping that their friends-and-family meet

will bring back the positivity

they once shared in their relationship.

It's nice.

So excited to be seeing them.

Should be a good... catch-up.

Because you haven't seen your friends for a while,

so it'll be nice. No, I haven't.

In a long time.

NARRATOR: Last time Morena and Tony saw their friends

was at their wedding

where the couple immediately hit it off.

Wow.

He's gorgeous!

That's... That's my wife! That's...

That's the woman that I'm just about to marry.

Can we say our vows now 'cause I'm excited to marry this lady.

(LAUGHTER)

NARRATOR: Since then, the couple have had many ups and downs

throughout the experiment.

Just be a gentleman.

Stop head-locking me, stop fist-pumping me,

and stop high-five... Alright, I'll stop. I will stop.

I will stop, I will stop, I will stop.

NARRATOR: But after an apology from Tony...

Sorry.

..and some encouraging words from the experts...

This is not 'Friends at First Sight'.

So, there needs to be progress.

..the couple are hoping their friends can offer a fresh perspective

on their relationship.

(LAUGHTER)

Today, Morena and Tony will be meeting with Tony's friends,

Danny and Georgia...

How are you?

..and Morena's friends, Mik and Jo...

(LAUGHTER)

..who were all at the wedding

to witness what looked like a very promising beginning

for the couple.

Tony and Morena's wedding day...

Great day.

Hello. Hi. How are you?

Tony's lots of fun and he's a great character,

and I think he's got a zest for life,

so I think it'll be really interesting

to make sure that that's translated to Morena

and make sure that she's enjoying that as much as we do.

Here is to the most unusual experiment...

..I have ever partaked in with a random stranger.

Thank you, honestly, all of you.

Thank you.

Thank you for being here.

Ladies, thank you for coming. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Thank you. Cheers.

Everything's good.

DANNY: How are you doing, Morena? Good?

No.

It's really tough.

Well, if you put yourself in my shoes, you kind of go...

Oh, you're meant to bond.

He's got a rug

and he wants to shove everything under the rug.

"I do not want to talk.

"I do not want to talk about issues that really bother me."

And I do.

I'm not here to attack him.

I'm so honest with my feelings

and Tony, you don't realise

how much you hurt me.

(TENSE SOUNDTRACK)

You just don't get it. I do get it.

(TENSE SOUNDTRACK)

Morena, she's...

She's not herself.

She's not herself. She's not herself.

It's heartbreaking to us, definitely.

It's heartbreaking because I was there at the ceremony,

everything was terrific,

but something's changed. Yeah, something's changed.

We need to just ask a question, please.

Go ahead.

What changed?

Like, to me, it seems like from "I like what I see,

"this is a beautiful moment",

to a total switch.

Has there been a switch?

Yes.

I'll tell you the switch.

You've seen Morena every day. Yes.

Can you explain to me Morena's personality?

How is she? Is she a happy person or...

I want to know what she's like towards you.

She's a frickin' knockout.

She walks in a room, stop.

People stop

and they just look at her. Well, I'm looking for that Morena.

You're telling me she's this beautiful, vibrant person,

and I... and I... But if you haven't...

Tony, but if you haven't... She's crying all the time.

If you haven't connected, that hurts her.

Correct. So, it's a vicious cycle.

Yeah, you have no idea the woman that she really is.

I'm sorry, mate.

MORENA: He goes away every weekend to Wollongong

and I walk the streets of Sydney on my own.

So, that's really hard.

Yeah. I cried and I cried and I cried

in the streets of Sydney.

That's not OK to do that to a person who is grounded, driven.

I have worked seven years to fix myself.

I didn't come on this experiment to go backwards.

Why wouldn't you take her with you?

Because I like to have my time, I like Tony time on weekends

or when I can get a chance.

That's just so cruel.

I think everybody has their natural ways to decompress.

Like, you recharge by spending time with people.

There are other people in the world

that just need to recharge themselves.

See, if you want your own time,

you can't be in a relationship.

I feel - can I be honest, guys?

I feel like is it ever going to get a point

where you can sort through

and actually live in the moment, live right now?

This is what I'm looking for, Georgia.

Tony's a very charismatic, happy-go-lucky type of guy,

and Morena's such a big character and a beautiful character,

but at the same time, from my perspective,

she's just stuck focusing on negative situations

rather than actually moving forward.

I dislike the fact that you're not honest with me.

She just needs to let go and enjoy the moment

because the more negatives,

the more Tony is going to retreat into his corner

and that's just Tony's character.

What's a woman meant to feel?

I just want you to understand that.

So, it's really sad

because I feel like they're not actually giving themselves a go

to develop a solid foundation and build from there.

Tony, I know you as a person.

You're a very charismatic,

energy-filled, young loving person,

and I think what Tony's looking for is fun.

You don't know him in a relationship scenario.

I expected more than just fun.

Because up until now, he's just been giving me head-locks.

Maybe that his way of getting close to you

and building a connection with you.

That's still not OK.

Don't ever, ever, even if you think it's funny.

That's not funny. That's not funny.

Josephine and Mik both said no head-locks

'cause it's not actually funny.

So, I'm actually feeling better about that.

It's just my way of affection. No, no.

It's just - and I've apologised to her.

Although I've allowed him to make me feel this way,

just through actions, words, acts, you know, not being here,

you know, all little dribs and drabs,

it was good to hear I'm a fun person before I came into this experiment.

I was doing cartwheels.

And now, I'm dragging my feet.

But if he respects me for the woman that I am,

maybe I can be myself

and I can, you know, match him with some fun.

For whatever reason, she's being really expressive.

Where's that personality here? That's what I'm looking for.

It was taken from me, Tony. From who?

You. I took your personality?

I told you on the couch the other night.

Why - how did I take it from you? Nobody has made me feel,

in such a short time, the way you have.

How? How? Yeah, wanted to do, Tony?

How? What did you do?

We need to know, mate? Because I block you?

I don't give you the time?

No, no, forget those things. I don't compliment you?

No, sorry. I don't touch you?

What is it? What's bothering you... No, no. No, no. No, no.

..that I took your personality away? I want to know.

Yeah. Tony...

Since when was this, mate? Since when did that start?

Yeah, we need to know. When I told you...

Since he made me feel...

You were gutted when you found out I was 57.

(DRAMATIC MUSIC)

(DRAMATIC MUSIC)

Tony, you were gutted when you found out I was 57.

You were this on the wedding,

you were this, you were this, you were this,

until I said, "I'm not 40."

You just went...

And I just went...

You didn't? No, I did not.

You didn't. I did not.

Age is really nothing.

What it all comes down to for me is just her personality.

It doesn't matter that you've disappointed me

or that you've made me sad, OK?

The fact that he's still here, he gets a big, a big tick.

Huge, 'cause he could've gone.

But Tony, you are emotionally unavailable.

All I need...

TONY: I've tried everything just to make her happy.

But once again, she's really upset and angry all the time,

so it's actually draining me.

We spoke about this with the experts.

Morena, can I just say something, please?

Sure.

No relationship is perfect.

You're the personality that you are.

Tony might be a little bit more withdrawn.

He doesn't want to discuss. "Stop talking."

"I don't want to discuss about these things."

No, hold on. Hear me out. Hear me out.

Because you work things out.

But only if you want it to work out

'cause if you don't want it to work out,

and I'm good to look at you now, Tony,

if you don't want it to work out, mate, forget it.

Morena had so much hope in finding the right one

or at least finding somebody she could build something with,

and I really don't think that's what's happening

because there was a massive shift in Tony's attitude towards her.

Tony, can we possibly have a word with you, please?

So, I think it's best to speak to Tony.

Ask questions. We're gonna ask the question.

OK, Tony.

This is like the Italian, Melbourne Italian mafia.

Please, Tony, we need to...

Do you like Morena?

Um...

As a person, of course, I care about her.

OK. You know what I mean?

Um...

But to me, we're just going to be friends.

She's a beautiful lady,

but just the personality is not there for me.

But Tony, unfortunately, this experiment

has turned her, her emotions into such a manner.

I'm sorry, but we have to say that.

She might be different to her friends on the outside,

which is not how she is here

and what's it take for her to be herself,

you know, and I'm just over it, man. Really over it.

(EXHALES)

But hold on, are you just stopping yourself

to the point that you're not allowing yourself

to possibly bring out more emotion,

that possibly there could be something there?

Um...

Romantically, I am not that way inclined.

You don't think you'll ever...

You don't think...

It's not going to blossom into anything, put it that way.

OK, is that 'cause of her age? Is that your issue?

You're 53, she's 57.

You are young.

Just allow it. That's it.

'Cause that's right. No, we do.

You know what? Just keep a little bit of spark.

That's it. That is it.

And you're not doing it, mate, and really...

You know what the thing is?

When I came in, I wanted someone that was a bit younger than me,

that was still going to have kids and maybe had a kid that was...

Oh, so this changes things. ..that I could help raise.

Always wanted to have a child.

Um...

It would be nice.

So, that's what I, that's what I... That changes things.

(CHUCKLES)

I've never probably spoken to Morena about that

because it's taken me a while to think about it all,

like to register in my head what I really, really want.

It's just a Tony thing. (CHUCKLES)

Yeah.

Yeah. You've got to tell her.

That's how you've made her feel. Yeah.

But if you're honest, she'll go,

"Well, fair enough, he wants kids. I can't do that."

Now that you've explained that to me...

Yeah, he's actually said reasoning.

..I think, well, that's a valid point.

We came here to just, to discover what has happened.

I think we've achieved that. I think we have.

Yeah. Because his hope is to have children

and that's the reason that he was hesitant

because he knows that that's not possible with Morena.

Glad you said that 'cause that's when I pulled up,

and I bet you... And that's fair and you know what?

It's not your fault, it's not her fault.

Correct, correct. It is what it is.

I think he's realised it himself

that that's what the thing that put him off,

that was the core of it.

So, if that's the case, they need to, yeah...

Move on. ..they need to move on.

Someone was hungry here. They ate everything.

Oh, my god. You left us nothing!

(LAUGHTER) Nothing!

Get over here. Jesus!

We needed to decompress. (LAUGHS)

You all good?

Great.

We just hope the best of the best as to how it all will unfold.

After talking to Mik and Josephine,

they helped me realise that I would love to have a child.

All this is coming together for me.

So, the plan is to explain to Morena about how I'm feeling

and what I want.

Maybe that will give her a reason

of, you know, why I think it's probably coming to an end.

And I hope she won't feel rejected.

She has kids, she'll understand it

and she will let go.

You've got to open your mouth and say what we talked about.

Tell her exactly how you feel.

(TENSE SOUNDTRACK)

NARRATOR: Back at their apartment... (DOOR OPENS)

..Tony is preparing to share his big realisation

from his conversation with Morena's friends today.

I am a little bit nervous to talk to Morena

about how I feel for me having a child.

But I spoke to her friends about it,

and they said she'll probably respect you more

for telling her that,

and that way she won't feel rejected

because I have reasons

for not being, you know, with an older woman.

So, I want to be completely honest with Morena

because I think it's coming to that stage

where, you know, we both fist-bump each other and...

(LAUGHS)

..and tap out.

I'll take my shoes off.

Yeah.

I think we've got the same coloured socks.

Anyway, how did you find everything? Was it good?

Yeah.

Did you take some of their advice on board?

Certainly, I did.

You did?

What did the girls say to you?

Oh, when they pulled me up?

Yeah.

We just spoke

They asked me if I...

..how I feel towards you.

You know, is it gonna get anywhere or are we just going to be friends?

"Tell me what's the real problem, what's the..."

"Well, it's the connection, it's a lot of stuff like that."

And she said, you know, "Be honest, what's the real reason?"

I said, you know what? I want to think about it.

Um...

It's because I've never had a kid before.

I've always wanted to...

You've had that. You have two beautiful kids.

I've never had that

and I've always wanted to have that.

So, that makes it hard for me

to really fall for somebody that's older

and, you know...

It's just... It's how I feel.

I just - that's how I feel. You've never said that.

I've always thought about it.

Tony and I have been on this experiment

for weeks and weeks and weeks,

and he's never uttered a word...

..that he wants to have a baby.

Where did it come from?

Poof!

He's done everything to try and push me away

and now, "Well, I've just realised, I want to have a baby."

Serious?

You're 53!

Very strange, it doesn't add up.

That would have been very easy to say from the start.

But maybe I just didn't think too much into it

and now, kind of when she said...

When we spoke about it, it kind of...

..made sense to me, so...

I don't really believe that Tony doesn't know what he wants,

but all I know is you can't help the way you feel

when someone tells you something,

and his delivery to me...

I'm not buying it.

So, it's the only missing piece of the puzzle in my life.

It ain't gonna happen with a 57-year-old.

It is totally fine that he's not into me.

Say it.

Because if anything, he's disrespected me again.

Making up this, this sweet little story that, "I want to reproduce."

Clearly, I can't reproduce.

My stamp, you know, expired.

There we are. That's how I feel.

Hmm.

Tony has blindsided me.

He's lied to me, and I don't deserve that.

Hell, no.

So, I don't know where to from here

because now I have no respect for him. Not at all.

(SIGHS)

Well, tell you what, it was good to see them.

Yes, it was.

NARRATOR: While Morena tries to understand Tony's latest revelation,

down the hall, Veronica is returning to her apartment...

(KNOCK ON DOOR) ..to speak with her husband, Eliot...

One sec! ..after their earlier confrontation.

Hello?

Eliot and I have been apart

and so, I've had some time to think about the argument.

I probably understand now that he's very sensitive

and so, I'm just curious to hear, like, what his side of it is.

How are you? Yeah, I'm OK. How are you?

Yeah, good.

Good? I'm a bit...

..like, confused as to what's going on.

Hmm.

You know, like I feel like I don't know where I stand

a little bit with you.

But I want to hear from you as well.

Like, what are your thoughts? Like, where are you at?

I just want to hear... I just want to hear your side first

and then I'll say my piece,

'cause I feel like you were quite upset by what I said previously...

..and that obviously didn't go great,

so I just want to give you the floor.

So, like... So, do you want to talk about it?

Yeah, yeah. Great.

Um, yeah, so I felt like I really opened up to you,

I talked about something

that was a really traumatic memory of mine

and it felt like you were trying to communicate to me

that I wasn't opening up to you.

The argument that we ended up having,

like, you are obviously not satisfied

with the outcome of that exercise,

is what I got from what you were saying.

So, I want to hear from your side,

like, explain, you know...

..what happened.

Thank you for the detailed description

of how I should communicate with you. I appreciate that.

I was trying to tell you how I was feeling and you were upset.

Should've just left it and I pushed it.

I'll just... Just let me finish.

OK. Um...

I'm having, like, a visceral reaction to being met with nothing.

So, what was communicated to me exactly that night?

Well, what I... I...

Just tell me, just tell me really simply

so we're not over complicating it or going around in circles.

Yeah, I'm trying to.

Whether, you know, I articulate it as well as you

or whether I go into as much detail as you,

the fact that I'm able to open up to you

about that particular memory,

for me, is like being vulnerable to you.

(SIGHS)

Does that sound... Let's go back.

Let's go right back. Yeah.

When we did the line-up... I'm not talking about that.

..the wedding line-up... I'm talking about the letter.

I am. I'm allowed to talk about it.

OK. OK. Thank you.

Sorry, it's just my turn to talk now.

So, when we do - when we did the wedding line-up...

..I didn't further understand you,

and I guess, that's my goal.

And then we got the confession letter.

Again, met with nothing.

I don't have a single thing that I can say, that was...

"I'm so glad he shared that with me

"'cause it just gave me this tiny little nugget of something."

Like, I didn't feel like I got anything from that story.

Well... And I don't understand

based on that, and I can't... I want to...

Because this is important that, you know, what happened happened.

So, I'm going to grab the letter

and I'm going to talk to you about some things

and I want to see what it is about it that you're saying,

you know, doesn't tell you anything about me.

"So, the impact this memory has on me..."

And I'm reading it off the page.

"..is I never want to be overwhelmed by emotion."

"Like anyone..."

Let me, let me say it.

"Like anyone, I feel things,

"I just do my best to identify and understand the emotion

"rather than be controlled by it."

That... I just...

Nothing about that says

how I was affected by this? No, this is...

No! No.

I didn't learn anything about you.

It didn't really have much to do about you.

You were there, you may have witnessed it,

and it may have had some kind of effect on you,

but you didn't tell me what that effect was.

Like, how has this affected you?

I don't understand... Can I, can I just

pull you up on something? You're interrupting me.

I don't understand your experience

and that's what we're here to understand,

so we can get to know each other.

So, there's a few times you keep saying,

"It's someone else's story, it didn't happen to you", right?

The story is worse for me

that it happened to someone that I care about more than myself.

My sister means more to me than myself, so...

I didn't know that. You haven't mentioned that in the story.

Yeah, but you can't understand that. It's not possible...

But I can't imagine that unless you tell me.

There's no way of me knowing this information about your life

unless you tell it to me.

But you just... Do you think that's unreasonable?

Yes, because you're... You think it's unreasonable

that I don't know facts about your life without you sharing it?

Yeah. Oh, Eliot...

You're presuming that I...

I'm with my sister that I don't care about.

That's not what I'm presuming.

You just said it's somebody else. But there's no way

that I possibly know these facts about your life unless you tell me.

I find it really difficult to communicate with V.

I was shocked that she can't relate with me

about how I would feel more about my sister's health

and my sister's life than my own.

Look, I'm explaining what happened to me in my words

and you're saying, "I didn't get anything from your words."

What happened to you?

I was shattered, like, I thought it was like...

Yeah, it was one of the worst memories of my life...

Right. ..and for you to just sit there

and say, "I didn't get anything out of that."

That's not what I said.

For you to say, "I don't know anything more about you from that."

That's not what I said either.

I would appreciate it if you don't put words in my mouth

and just used the words that I've actually used

instead of making up stories. OK, so put it in your words then.

I didn't feel

that I had gained an additional understanding of you, Eliot.

That's literally just what I've just paraphrased.

Don't paraphrase my words.

(OMINOUS SOUNDTRACK)

For you to just sit there and say,

"I didn't get anything out of that."

That's not what I said.

For you to say, "I don't know anything more about you from that."

That's not what I said either.

I would appreciate it if you don't put words in my mouth

and just used words that I've actually used

instead of making up stories. OK, so put it in your words then.

I didn't feel

that I had gained an additional understanding of you, Eliot.

That's literally just what I've just paraphrased.

Don't paraphrase my words.

I really feel like I'm trying

to, um, you know, sort of meet her in the middle.

Yeah, just a lot of communication blocks.

She has a lot of, um, defensive mechanisms in place

when I try to talk to her openly.

I'm met with a lot of passive aggressiveness and a lot of sarcasm,

you know, a lot of overreaction.

No matter how you look at it, this is me opening up, OK?

Right?

Do you think someone that's trying to open up to you,

do you think the best way to encourage them to do it more

is to come in and yell at them about it?

OK.

What else?

Well, what do you think about that?

I'm just listening, Eliot.

I don't want to interrupt you. You've got the floor.

Well, so, so, the way I look at it is if someone is trying

to, you know, engage with you,

don't say, you know, "I'm not getting

"any meaningful understanding of you",

and do it in a way,

do it in a way where you feel like you're being ripped off. Like...

No, I don't feel like I'm being ripped off.

I was just trying to communicate with you.

See, the way that you say that,

it's like I'm talking to someone that hates my guts.

You think I am talking to you

in a way that demonstrates that I hate your guts?

When you ask rhetorical questions, you're trying to reframe it

as you're the person of authority...

..and I'm just answering your questions.

Just talk to me like a normal person.

What is it exactly that I can do?

Yeah, OK, number one,

you can be more open with your communication.

I need to be open with my communication?

See, you just did it again. So, you're just an example...

Do you notice how I say something direct, right?

I'm just trying to understand.

That's why I say it back to you,

so I make sure that I have understanding.

No, repeating it back to me in a really condescending tone...

I'm not saying it condescendingly. ..is not trying to understand me.

This is just my voice... Well...

..and I'm just remaining calm.

The way that you communicate with me comes across as resentful

and I'm saying... Well, let me clear the air.

I think we've hit a road bump. Hmm.

I think I've seen sides of you that I don't like, my walls are up.

Hmm. I'm not...

I don't trust you. OK, so your walls are up?

100%. Are you kidding me? Yes, OK.

Well, that's all I was trying to agree on.

The way you spoke to Lauren, the way you spoke to Lauren

that night at the dinner party... Yeah, OK.

The way you spoke to other people, the way you conducted yourself

got my walls up.

So, so, so, you just mentioned...

What else?

You mentioned how I spoke to Lauren.

I... So, I want to elaborate on that.

I apologised. Sorry, I have no idea

what we're talking about anymore.

We're talking about us. I really don't.

We're just talking about us. I really have no idea

what we're talking - we just cannot stay

on one straight line...

No, we are getting to the root of the issue.

..of communication and find a solution.

I don't trust you. Yeah.

I will not apologise for that and that is the truth. When I come in...

No, that's good. That's good that you're telling me this.

Just let me finish speaking please, if you can.

It's not just, like, one thing. It's like multiple things

that have all compounded now... Yeah.

..and the tasks are just the cherry on top.

See, I feel like now we're actually getting somewhere,

we are actually able to communicate things.

Like, why wasn't this something that you brought up in the beginning?

Like, why... Because I was giving you time

and space and grace. Yeah. OK.

Yeah, to adjust. But you haven't. Assume...

Just assume that I can handle the truth.

You can't handle the truth, Eliot.

I literally came in here and told you

how your letter made me feel and you blew up.

Like, it's actually hilarious.

It's like, "I can handle the truth",

and I'm trying to talk to you and you just lose your mind,

so I don't want to sit here and argue.

This is giving me a headache, my neck hurts.

So, you're doing the same thing as last time.

We're just going around in circles.

No, we're not!

We just got to this thing about how you don't trust me.

Don't raise your voice at me.

Do not raise your voice at me.

We literally just... Do not raise your voice at me.

You're just screaming in my face now.

I've had enough. I'm not screaming in your face.

I'm setting a boundary.

Do not raise your voice at me. I have been so civil with you

and now we are going around in circles,

and you are being unreasonable,

and I will not tolerate it. You're being really civil.

This is so civil. No, I've had enough.

This is so civil. I've had enough.

Good luck, Eliot!

(DRAMATIC MUSIC)

(DRAMATIC MUSIC)

(PENSIVE SOUNDTRACK)

I don't have a key to this door.

You OK? Yeah.

Thank you.

(BLEEP) psychopath.

Yep. I'm fine.

I just... I just can't... I just can't...

Like, we're not getting anywhere.

It's... It's...

That conversation, to me, finally started to feel productive.

Yeah, it just kind of felt like

she's not wanting to have that conversation.

That's what it felt like.

As soon as the conversation started moving

in a difficult but a necessary direction,

she blew up and walked out.

It's kind of funny. I thought I was supposed to be the guarded one.

Like...

How does it... How...

I don't know how I'm meant to deal with someone like that.

Like, I really don't. Like, I was trying everything, like...

I couldn't make myself smaller if I tried.

Like, I really...

One thing that she said was that she has her walls up

and she doesn't trust me.

Like, she just came out and said it point-blank.

And I wanted to say to her, like, thank you for telling me that.

Like, that's... I don't take that the wrong way.

Like, that... That was hard to say but important to say,

so that we can talk about it and work to resolve it.

If it's just something that's she's keeping to herself

and it being unsaid

and just kind of passively aggressively

being communicated to me, I can't do anything with that.

Now that you've, you know, admitted that you've got your walls up,

you don't trust me, how do we get beyond this?

You know, that's the next question.

NARRATOR: Tomorrow night...

MAN: Dinner is served.

PAUL: It's making me nervous coming in to the group now

because I'm going to admit to everyone what I've done.

(GLASS CLINKING)

PAUL: I did something that I absolutely regret.

NARRATOR: What shocking act...

It's unacceptable, it's disgusting,

and I'm hating myself for doing this.

..threatens to tear apart

one of the experiment's strongest couples?

I...

Um...

(DRAMATIC MUSIC)

JOHN: This is very serious.

Very, very, very serious.
