Spirits abound

in a haunted Texas hotel.

It's crazy.

He looked at me
and said,

"We got a haunted
building, huh?"

Was
this manifestation of a sacred deity...

...created by thousands
of insects?

I cannot
get over the fact

that this termite mound

looks so incredibly
like a sculpture.

And even more
paranormal footage you have to see...

...to believe.

Buying
an old hotel,

is a big commitment.

And if that old hotel

happens to be haunted,

that's when things
get really interesting.

Just ask one couple
from Texas,

who bought a notoriously
haunted hotel

almost a decade ago.

And have become quite close

with its permanent guests.

It's crazy.

Erin and Jim Gedhi

are owners of
the Magnolia Hotel,

which has something of a past.

My name is Jim.

I'm Erin.

And these are our videos.

We bought
the hotel in 2013.

It was built by
a Texas Ranger, one of the original ones.

Then he was murdered
by Comanches.

And it was the longest running
stagecoach stop,

until the railroad
came to town in 1874.

Towards the end, it started
getting a little rough.

Then it became a brothel

but by then
it was in pretty bad shape.

And so it sat, and open door
to vandals and graffiti.

It has an incredible history.

And according
to Erin and Jim,

this history has
resulted in a hotel,

with a good amount
of paranormal activity.

The very first day when
we entered the building,

uh, we were--

Things started happening.

Very first day.

He had bought
a bottle of champagne,

and as soon as he
popped the cork,

and we started to pour
the champagne...

all three doors went
boom, boom, boom.

And then this ice cold breeze
went right between the two of us.

And he looked at me and said,

"We got a haunted
building, huh?"

More than they knew

because over the years,

the Ghedis would record
all kinds of unexplainable, paranormal phenomena

throughout the hotel.

Why is it doing that?

From garden hose

with minds of their own...

That's crazy.

...to objects
suddenly flying off shelves.

And even,

phantom footsteps.

So many things
have happened here that I can't explain.

It's definitely something
unique and interesting.

We call it our
paranormal Disneyworld.

And perhaps
no incident reflects this mindset more,

than the time they place
a ball and two small REM-PODs,

devices that detect
the presence of entities,

in a room that they suspect

is haunted by the ghost
of a small child.

We brought
it to her as a gift.

So, we put the two little REM
balls next to her favorite ball

which is a ladybug ball.

We went outside
to watch a wedding that was being held on the balcony.

And when we came back,

the balls had been moved.

So, we ran into the other room
to look at the security camera

and when we did,

it was just amazing.

Watch closely.

One of the REM PODs lights up

just as the ball
starts moving.

And then,

all three objects
begin rolling.

While simultaneously
from the doorway

a shadow crosses the room

and disappears.

We see these electronic
REM-PODs going off.

Now, these are touch activated

but we don't see anybody
in the room setting them off.

At the same time,
there's this ball

that's rolling
across the floor.

And not just rolling
because something...

you know, a breeze blew on it
or something knocked into it.

It rolls and then gains speed.

And changes direction.

When the larger balls heads
over to the table and the wall

you see a shadow figure

run from the top left
of that screen to the right.

Once I saw the shadow,

that was basically
all I could see.

And the fact that we
then see movement

in other parts of the room
after it goes by,

really suggests that something

has walked into that room.

Terrifying.

But not to Erin and Jim.

They're used to ghosts.

A lot of ghosts.

We stopped
counting at 13.

And we know pretty much
every one of them

because we did a lot
of research on the hotel.

We do have some that just

after they passed,
they came back

because it was their
favorite place on earth.

And each one,
whenever they come forward, they have their own scents.

We actually can tell
who is who,

- by the smells.
- by the smells, yeah.

And because
the Ghedis know

and actually like,

all their uninvited guests,

they're in no rush
to check out.

I can't imagine living
in any other home than this.

This is home for us.

...a garden gnome
come to life?

Garden gnomes,

or at least, the idea of them,

date all the way back
to the Roman Empire

when second century
emperor, Hadrian,

arranged for hermits
to live in,

and tend to his garden.

A trend that would re-emerge
in England in the 1700's.

When homeowners
would require their hermits to keep themselves unkempt

and grow their beards long.

And it's that standard
that eventually

led to what we know
as garden gnomes today.

Mythical, diminutive,
bearded creatures,

said to have magic powers,

and bring fortune
and prosperity

to any landscape.

Which is why
they are so popular as decorative statues.

But,

according to one
man in Phoenix,

the gnome in his garden
is no decorative statue.

It's the real thing.

Go see what it is.

2017
in Phoenix, Arizona,

after noticing items
missing from his porch,

Joshua Taylor,

is having his friend, Alex,
install a security camera

that will monitor the area.

And right after
turning on the camera for the very first time,

they see this.

What the

Watch closely

as what appears to be
a small, humanoid figure,

moves around
in Joshua's garden.

Go see what it is.

And it gets
even weirder.

Look,
that's his face.

Watch again

as the figure seems to have
some kind of glow

emanating from where
it's eyes would be.

Joshua and Alex
are totally freaked out.

Why don't you go
see it? Like, open the door.

Somehow, Joshua
manages to convince Alex

to go outside
and check it out,

as Joshua stays inside,

and films the monitor.

Moments later,

Alex appears outside.

Just a few feet from
where the bizarre figure is.

And incredibly,

he seems to see nothing.

Then, somehow...

the figure vanishes

right in front of them.

Where'd it go?

After
checking out the area,

Alex returns to the house

dumbfounded.

Dude.

I'm Joshua Taylor and I'm the
one who recorded the video.

I was a little bit nervous
because I was like,

what the is that?

How can it just
like, straight up disappear like that?

I was in shock because
I didn't believe it

because nothing like that
has ever happened to me before, ever.

When you first see
this porch cam footage,

and you think, well,
that's just a little person or perhaps a child.

What the

But you can tell by
the voices of the two men watching this,

that that's no ordinary child
or small person out there.

It doesn't look
traditionally human to me.

The fact that we see what
looks like glowing eyes looking back at the camera,

This doesn't look
like two normal eyes.

I mean, it almost
looks like...

maybe some kind of...

device or mask, or maybe even

eyes configured in a way we're
not totally familiar with.

And as the figure turns
away, it disappears.

Diminutive,
glowing eyes,

standing in a garden,

and able to apparently
disappear.

For Joshua,

one creature comes to mind.

I believe that it was
a garden gnome, hardcore.

Because of how many
plants I had in the yard,

I had sunflowers planted
all the way around my yard.

And just the way that it was
standing by my sunflowers, it was...

that's what made me
think of a garden gnome.

Believe it or not,

this garden gnome theory
might not be as 'out there' as you think.

Traditional folklore
paints gnomes

both, as sort of
helpful nature spirits,

and also as tricksters.

That like to sort of mess with
human beings when they can.

So, the fact that there is
some indicator of mischief,

that led to the acquisition
of a security camera in the first place,

actually seems to tie in
pretty well with the traditional understanding

of a garden gnome.

Traditionally,
gnomes and fairies,

are attracted to...

healthy, vibrant gardens.

So, the more greenery
you have in your home,

the more you invite these...

protective, elemental,

sprite-like, gnome-like
energies to a home.

But if
that's the case,

then why don't we
see them more often?

Joshua has a theory
about that as well.

I think there's
more of them out there

and we just can't see them.

Like, the way I think now
is like,

what we're told as kids,

it closes our minds off
to being able to see them.

I believe there's stuff around
us every day that we can't see.

And it's just
because of society

has conditioned us
to not believe it anymore.

There's a common perception,
cross-culturally,

that children are
actually more receptive

to the supernatural,
to the paranormal than adults.

And whether or not that's
a quality that people would retain

if it weren't
taught out of them,

is an interesting question.

Joshua lived in the
house another full year after the sighting.

And never saw
the figure again.

But he's still grateful
for the one night that he did.

That was
the only time we ever caught it on camera.

And I made sure like,
every night.

Like, I was looking
at the camera screen like,

but I never
caught anything else so maybe it's just pure luck.

woman in the Philippines believes she is dealing with.

And it's making itself
right at home...

to Mary's right,

opens forcefully by itself,

terrifying Mary
and her brother.

Hi,

my name is Mary Therese Pagay

and I was the one
who filmed the video.

I was really, really, really
scared and shocked.

I didn't know what to do.

I just shouted, "Mama!"

And my brother,
he was also shocked

to see the closet
forcefully open.

So, I ran to him.

We were standing in the corner

waiting for our mom to come,

because we were too scared
to go near the closet

or even open the door.

This was not a door
swinging open because it has a faulty hinge.

This was not the heat
turning on and blowing something gently open.

This was definitely
an aggressive movement,

that absolutely scared them.

And it scared me.

If you pause it
at the exact moment

where Mary sees this closet
door opening by itself,

you can see
the terror in her face.

I think it's a real reaction
that she is having.

We shall explain
the procedure--

For me, what adds
a level of credibility to this

is that when something
initially goes awry,

she dismisses it.

She continues with her video.

But when the next thing
happens with that closet,

she freaks out
and gets out of there.

But for Mary,

it wasn't just the
closet door opening

that startled her.

It's what she claims
she saw come out.

I look over,

and there was
sort of like a black shadow coming from the closet.

It felt more like a hand

passing through my eyes.

It was like a very short
shadow, it looks like a hand.

After when I saw the
hand coming out,

when I blinked,

it wasn't there.

It was gone already.

A lot of times
we think about shadow figures

as being a full,
human-like form.

But I have heard of...

partial shadow figures
or even a shadow hand,

being seen by eyewitnesses.

The fact that it's
a hand that shows up,

that that's what manifests

speaks to this
desire for engagement.

I mean, it's a literal...

reaching out at someone.

Whether that's to touch them,
to explore,

or to grab them.

It's kind of scary
to think about.

Very scary.

Scary enough for Mary
to set up a CCTV camera in her bedroom

hoping to capture
more activity.

And one night, sure enough,

there is a strange mist.

And the fan,

turns on by itself.

The closet door...

swings open,

and slams shut.

And a chair,

moves on its own.

And if you look very closely,

you can see what appears to be

some kind of shadowy fingers,

slipping out of the closet
for a moment,

right before the chair moves.

Sort of like
a black hand.

My mother and my grandmother
didn't believe us at first.

So, when we got
the CCTV installed,

that is when they believe us.

Mary is convinced
that the activity in her room

is paranormal.

And she thinks she knows

why it's happening.

Just this summer,

my boyfriend and I
were on our way home,

and then we encountered
this traffic accident

where many people
were injured.

There was this one
guy who was severely injured from the accident.

And my boyfriend is an EMS,

so he tried to save
that guys life.

But unfortunately,

he died in front of our eyes.

So, I think that...

this man's spirit
is following us home.

Because just a week
from that accident,

that is when the
presence started to...

appear in our house.

Stories of the spirits
of recently deceased people

following EMTs and other
emergency medical professionals,

is actually a really
common type of story

that emergency medical
technicians share with each other.

This is something that's been
documented time and again.

Where someone was in a very
close proximity to death,

maybe even a violent death
or a traumatic death,

and then ends up having
these sort of experiences in the days following.

However
it got there,

Mary is sure
she wants it gone.

And she's not taking
any chances with her bedroom.

It's now locked.

And every morning, my
grandmother blesses the room

with holy water.

Through the window.

I sleep in my parents room.

But she should
proceed with caution.

You can't kick out an energy
because then you kind of get bad blood with it.

Clean your room,

rearrange your space,

organize everything.

Set boundaries
with that energy,

but don't try to kick it out.

And I think that's the
best way you can you know, live with that type of energy.

who or what is trying
to get out of this coffin?

As many of us
know by now,

buildings with a dark history

are fertile ground
for the paranormal.

Similarly, certain antiques
tend to act as beacons

for those spirits that were
somehow connected to them in life.

So, if you take
one of those buildings,

and fill it with
a bunch of antiques,

well,

now you're just
asking for trouble.

Case in point,

a group of paranormal
investigators in England,

recently visited such a place.

And found themselves
surrounded

by the restless
spirits of the dead.

May 2021,

in Hull, England.

Paranormal investigators,
Ricky Beadle, Chloe Fothergill and Cameron Olson

are taking an overnight tour
of a very peculiar hostel.

That is supposedly...

...haunted.

- My name's Ricky.
- I'm Cameron.

I'm Chloe.

And we captured these videos.

So, 39 De Gray Street
is called The Hostel.

It's been around
for over 100 years.

There was a church
built behind it as well.

It's got a very long history.

Then, the previous owner

had said, he was laying
in bed one night,

and a young girl floated
out of the fireplace,

looked at him
and then disappeared.

And then, there was
an official police report

of children in the windows.

So. the police
raided the house, they burst the door open,

and there was nobody in there.

And then the owner came around

and told them that the house
had been abandoned for a long time.

He doesn't live in it.

Also, the neighbors have heard
noises, scratching,

things that
can't be explained.

Woah.

And as the team
quickly discovers,

it's not just the
history of the place

that makes it eerie.

It's also...

the decor.

Walking around
with the sheer amount of mannequins and dolls

up on the walls of every
room and every hallway.

You cannot at all

feel like you're
not being watched.

It felt weird.

I felt quite trapped
going into it,

because it was
really cluttered.

It just felt freaky.

But
believe it or not,

dolls and mannequins,

aren't the creepiest antique
items on the premises.

Not by a long shot.

There was like,
another building behind it,

directly connected
to the house.

And that's where
we found this coffin.

This coffin itself
was from a funeral parlor.

It was an antique coffin,
Victorian-style.

So, we all got in it,

and then, made sure there was
no funny business with it.

And then closed the lid
back up.

Set up a motion-activated
camera near the coffin.

Once the cameras
have all been placed,

the team settles in
for the night.

But aside from a few
startling incidents,

the rest of the evening

is fairly uneventful.

Or so they think.

Because when they get home,

and review the
footage from the camera that was left by the coffin,

they are totally freaked out.

Watch closely...

as the coffin lid

begins to move by itself.

As if someone or something,

is trying to get in.

Or out.

We knew that nobody
was there. There was nothing.

The coffin hadn't been
tweaked in any way.

And that's why
we were quite excited

because it's some of the most
real paranormal footage we've got from the scene.

For something
to actually move this lid,

up and shift around,

has to have a lot of force
and strength to do this.

And for a spirit to harness
this type of energy,

this is pretty incredible.

What's really
strange is if you look just to the left of it,

while this motion
is taking place,

you can kind of see this
dark shadow standing there

as if it's trying
to lift the lid.

Seeing this coffin
move is no surprise to me.

I don't think that
coffins particularly...

tend to be haunted
by people that were in them.

You know, I think it's just
some sort of curious object

for spirit energy.

And that's kind of
what ghosts are,

it's this kind of memory...

of that moment when
they lost their lives.

And so maybe seeing something
like a coffin within a room,

triggers the memory that
they might actually be dead,

which can be very
upsetting for energies.

Though the team
doesn't know exactly what caused the coffin to move,

they do know it's legit.

We look at things
from a scientific point of view.

So then, when we get
credible evidence, it's real.

So, we didn't believe
any of the stories.

We went into it just
with an open mind

and then we found out

that there may actually be
some credibility to what people are saying.

Enough credibility
for them to come to one definite conclusion.

It's probably the most
paranormal place that we've ever investigated.

the government has known about UFOs

for a long, long time.

Recently,
the United States government shocked the world

by releasing classified
reports of unidentified flying objects,

captured by the
infrared cameras

of a military aircraft.

But nearly 30 years ago,

long before government
leaders admitted any uncertainty

about what we see
in the skies,

a similar case was leaked
to a television program.

And the footage,
just as inexplicable,

may be proof

that this sort of thing...

happens a lot more often

than previously thought.

Fall of 1994,

at the Nellis Test Range,

outside Las Vegas, Nevada,

located in the desolate
Mojave Desert,

the range is home
to 5,000 square miles of restricted airspace,

where highly classified,

ultra-high-tech military
testing takes place.

Just before sunset,

a team of air force
contract workers

are scanning the
airspace with radar

to ensure that nothing
interferes with the bomb testing

being carried out at the base.

When suddenly,

they detect a peculiar object

hovering above a mountaintop
in the distance.

Despite their
sophisticated equipment,

it's not immediately
clear to the contractors

what exactly
they are witnessing.

And though they attempt
an initial guess,

they ultimately,

yield to the confusion.

The military personnel
at this facility are familiar with

every flying object in the
air force arsenal.

Yet, you can hear the
confusion as they watch this video.

They have absolutely
no idea what this thing is.

Then, when
the camera operator zooms in on the object,

things get truly weird.

Once we get
a zoomed in view of what this thing is,

it almost becomes more
baffling rather than more clear.

Because if I had
to describe it,

I would probably say,

it looked like a giant kernel
of popcorn in the sky.

What could
something like this be?

Either it's an international
technology that is flying in our airspace,

or maybe it's one of our own.

A secret government operation.

But why would these guys
be reacting that way?

So, is the other
alternative...

that this could be
extra-terrestrial in origin?

Unfortunately,
we may never know.

Because the government
is traditionally tight-lipped

about what goes on
at these testing sites.

And, in fact,

the only reason
we're seeing this footage,

is because it was reportedly
smuggled off-site.

Eventually, landing in the
hands of the producers

of the television program,
Hard Copy,

which aired a segment
about the mysterious craft.

Sometimes, there
has to be that one person

that comes forth
and warns the masses

of things that we were
kept in the dark about.

And we have whistleblowers
like this,

regardless of the status
that they have in the military

because they find it
unfair that...

the masses of people,

or even the entire human
species on this planet,

is being kept in the dark
about the reality of extra-terrestrials.

But given
recent developments,

maybe that secrecy is coming
close to its end point.

I think that we are
currently in a period

of information release
and disclosure.

I mean, it's already
been happening.

There are discussions
about it in circles

where people are interested
in these sorts of phenomena.

I think we are going to see
an increasing amount of information

about unexplained phenomena
being shared with the general public.

In the meantime,

a sacred Buddhist deity,

made by something
that defies explanation.

Kuman Thong.

It's a holy deity
from Thai folklore,

associated with Buddhism,

that has the appearance
of a young boy,

and brings believers
luck and fortune.

But despite its
benevolent tidings,

it's origins...

are extremely
dark and twisted.

Usually, at least.

Because recently,

within the backwoods
of a small town in Thailand,

some locals believe

they have discovered
a representation of the deity.

Created by something...

that will blow your mind.

January 2021,

in Surin, Thailand,

villagers flock to
what appears to be

a naturally occurring
sculpture in the forest.

It looks like a young boy,

sitting in a peaceful pose.

And what makes it
even more startling,

is that it seems to
have been created

by termites.

Because it is, in fact,

a termite nest.

As a paranormal
investigator, I'm very aware

of the human tendency

to look for other humanoid
shapes and faces in objects.

And that's called pareidolia.

But I cannot get over the fact
that this termite mound

looks so incredibly
like a sculpture.

There's no denying it.

We can see a head with a face,
eyes, a mouth, shoulders...

It definitely looks
like a boy sitting there.

I have never
seen something

this three-dimensional,
this compelling,

where a termite mound

doesn't just look like
something from one angle,

it looks exactly like
a statue of a human being.

But according
to some locals,

this sculpture
isn't of a human being.

It's of a divine one.

It's a manifestation
of Kuman Thong.

A deity in the form
of a small boy.

Said to bring
good luck and fortune,

if appropriately worshipped.

So, the Kuman Thong
is really interesting.

Because it's generally
considered a mucky spirit,

or a protective spirit,
the golden boy.

But the history behind the
Kuman Thong is really dark.

So, the way that you acquire
this protective spirit

is by slow-roasting
a human fetus

until it's dried out.

And then you cover it
in gold leaf,

And then you keep that object
with you as an amulet.

And the spirit,
the protective spirit,

this luck-bringing spirit

comes from that object.

The fact that the earth,
through the work of termites

manifested a Kuman Thong
on its own,

way, way better method
of achieving that sort of protective spirit

than the traditional method.

That
is an understatement.

But regardless of how
the sculpture came into being,

perhaps the real power of it

lies in the belief
that it inspires.

Even if this began
as a quirk of nature,

that fact that these villagers

are finding such deep
significance in this formation

could, in theory, imbue it

with a certain kind
of supernatural energy.

I believe that
all that good intention,

that energy will come
back out of this object

and hopefully give good
fortune to the people that live in the village

around this area.

Here's hoping.

And until we know for sure,

it might be good
to play it safe.

If I were in Thailand
and I came across this,

I would probably
set down a couple of

like, mala beads
and incense there too.

You know, just in case.
