and the Pennhurst Asylum
in Pennsylvania is no exception.

Opened in 1908, it was home
to thousands of patients

with cognitive
and physical disabilities

whose families were unable
or unwilling to care for them.

An investigation in the 1960s

revealed that many
of these patients

had been terribly abused
over the years.

It finally closed its doors
for good in 1987.

But many believe the nearly
80 years of pain and misery

left the building haunted
by tormented spirits.

What the is that?!

Recently, a team of ghost
hunters investigated the asylum.

And what they experienced

left them terrified
and deeply shaken.

From the outside, it looks like
any other abandoned building,

but inside, the building

almost seems to pulsate with
dark energy.

I feel really weird about
entering this area right here.

I initially walked in there,

you get this sense of, like,
heaviness.

I'm scared.

Felt the tension.

Like, "Okay,
there's something here,

and it's already attacking us."

...and immediately gets
some frightening results.

Normally,
in a haunted situation,

I would assume that there would
only be one or two spirits

maybe inhabiting a building,

But in a place like Pennhurst,
the sky's the limit.

There could literally be
hundreds,

if not thousands of ghosts, if
you want to call them that,

living within the walls.

And because of the abuse that ran rampant at the asylum,

including allegedly keeping
some of the patients in cages,

those ghosts are bound
to be unhappy.

It said yes like three times!

As the disturbing EVPs
continue to come in,

Carlos suddenly senses something
in the distance.

as a shadow figure

appears to walk past the doorway
at the end of the hall.

I felt like something was there,
and I turned around,

and next you know, I see --

Here, we have one
of the most common occurrences

during a paranormal
investigation --

the shadow figure
at the end of the hall.

Here, we see something
pass by a doorway.

It seems darker than
the darkness around it.

And there are tiny glints
of lights that make you think,

"Okay, there must
have been somebody.

Somebody must have
been walking around."

But then the investigator shines
his flashlight on the doorway,

and there's nobody there.

There couldn't be anybody there.

So, what was it?

Could it be one of the
asylum's former residents,

who was cursed to roam the
halls, calling for help?

Who's down here with us?

This seems to be
a residual energy of a person

who may have died there,
and if that is the case,

this is the darkest type
of residual energy

the place can have.

This was a horrible place
to live.

It was a Dickensian
sort of hell.

These people lived lives
of fear and anxiety.

If these lives get cut short,

there's a tragedy there that
just can't be underestimated.

Some probably just
wanted help

to get to the other side,
to rest,

but there's most likely a lot of
them that are just angry,

'cause that's the sense I got,
was "angry," like they were mad.

While Carlos is

What it was, it was a black
shadow that came through --

But suddenly, something moves
in the next room.

industrial cable spool rolls --

first one way
and then the other --

all by itself.

I felt cold wind go
past me. Like, it got cold.

It didn't scare me.

I was more intrigued
on what moved it.

McNEILL: The spool footage was
really compelling

because it rolls first
in one direction,

with clearly nothing visible
to have set it off,

and then changes direction
and rolls back.

So any easy explanation of

"Oh, the ground's obviously
just sloped" doesn't hold water.

Why would it roll, then, back
in the opposite direction?

The floor was actually level.

I'm a home inspector also,
so I look at things like that.

It was level
all the way through.

Something like that speaks to,
if not an intelligent energy,

some sort of energy that can
manifest itself on purpose,

something pushed that spool,
made it roll one way

and then roll back
the other way.

In the short amount of time the team had been in the building,

they have already received
numerous EVPs,

seen a shadow figure

and now witnessed a powerful
show of force.

To Carlos, there was only one
way to interpret

all of that activity.

They didn't want us there,

because the longer
we stayed there at night,

the more activity
started coming.

As soon as we start getting
towards closer to the midnight,

1:00, 2:00, 3:00 in the morning,
it started getting more intense.

You start feeling the heaviness,
you start feeling the draining.

This is the creepiest place
I've ever been.

I'm extremely scared.

They decide to call it
a night -- while they still can.

And Carlos is in no rush
to get back there anytime soon.

a different monster.

whose dream house
became a nightmare

when she met the poltergeist
that came with it.

2014 in Mountain House,
California.

Tammy Gyarmathy and her husband

have just moved
into their new home,

and almost immediately,
something seems off.

My name is Tammy,
and this is my video.

As soon as we moved in, things
started happening in that house.

I had doors opening and closing
in one of the dressers,

I heard a door slam.

I was there by myself,

and, like,
at 3:00 in the morning

there would be loud banging
on the wall behind my bed.

Incredibly, the
activity continued for years

and took its toll on Tammy.

I had trouble sleeping -- a lot.

I had really bad insomnia.

I got really bad anxiety
living in that house,

so I had to start
taking things for anxiety,

and that wasn't like me.

Finally, after nearly
6 years of living in fear,

Tammy and her husband
decided to move out

of their dream house
in late 2019.

And that's when
the home security cameras

started capturing things
like this.

Keep your eyes
on the hanging lamp on the left,

as it swings back and forth
on its own

and then suddenly comes
to a full stop.

There's no vent near
the light.

Like, it swung, swung,
and then it just stops.

Like, how did it do that?

'Cause that next morning, I
tried to debunk it with my mom.

Like, I pulled the light out
and I swung it,

but it's still swaying
until it was done swinging.

The swinging light,
sort of on a pendulum,

goes back and forth
very oddly, very slowly.

And this particular light,

I have a very strong
opinion here.

It's either a ghost
or it's a hoax.

There are no other options.
There's no middle ground.

It's one or the other.

Night after night,
room by room,

chilling activity
was captured on camera,

from lights turning on and off

to objects moving on their own.

Watch the grandfather clock
to the left.

The clock face door
suddenly swings open.

McNEILL: When the grandfather
clock opens it doesn't pop open,

like it's been waiting to open

and just the latch was partially
hooked or something like that.

It opens in what almost
seems to be

an intentionally menacing way.

It swings open slowly, as though
something is opening it.

The crazy thing about
it opening is it sticks.

Like, it doesn't open easy.

You have to really pull
to get it open.

So that really tripped us up
'cause I was like,

"Okay, that couldn't have, like,
accidentally happened."

There's no way
this thing opened by itself.

To me,
it definitely feels like

they have
a poltergeist on their hands.

Poltergeists are known
to be pranksters,

and so the fact that a lot
of this activity

is happening at night,

when nobody is there
to physically witness it,

you know, it's almost as if
it wants to be seen later,

you know, as a little treat
to freak them out later.

And each new capture
did freak them out.

Watch as this hand truck seems
to almost levitate

before rocking back and forth,

and then settling
back to center.

We see this hand truck, and it is being moved to and fro,

as if something is yanking on it
just out of frame.

It's impressive,
and it's also a heavy object,

and that makes you wonder,
how strong is this entity?

McNEILL: One of the things
that I noticed

was that the cat
is caught in the video,

clearly watching the dolly.

If there were someone
out of screen,

really trying to trick us,

holding a fishing line,
making that thing rock,

the cat would be looking
at the person.

Then, just 2 days before they were set to move out,

one of their cameras
captured this.

Watch the left opening
on your screen,

as what can only be described
as a creepy shadow figure

seems to peek in.

The last video that we got

in literally maybe a day or 2
before I moved.

Now it's showing itself to us.

Like, that's creepy.

We start
with a couple moving objects.

The next thing you know,
we have

a full-fledged shadow figure
peering around the corner.

I don't know where
it's getting the energy,

but it seems to be increasing.

But why would the
activity be increasing now,

just days away from them
leaving the premises?

One of the most common reports

when it comes
to haunted activity

is that when people move
or are doing construction

or redecoration in a home,
activity kicks up.

And the reason for this,
I believe, is the energy flow.

It's not so much that ghosts
don't like change

and they're upset
by something that's happening.

It's the fact that you're
altering the environment

to allow for a
different flow of energy.

Whatever the cause,

as far as Tammy
and her husband were concerned,

it just confirmed that leaving
was the right choice.

A few days later, they moved
nearly 2,000 miles away,

to Texas.

Unfortunately, even that
might not be far enough.

I'm like, "Okay, we're going
to move to another state.

Everything's going to be great."

And then I see
a shadow figure here.

So I'm like,
"Did it follow or..."

I don't know.

The alien invasion.

For most people, that means UFOs
suddenly sweeping over cities,

raining down destruction
from above.

And thankfully, nothing like
that has happened.

Yet.

But what if
an extraterrestrial takeover

doesn't start with

with simple observation
and intel gathering from above?

his usual nighttime longboarding

through downtown
at around 8 p.m.,

when he glanced over toward a
baseball field in the distance.

The field lights were all on,

which wasn't unusual
for this time of night.

What wasunusual
were the spectators --

hovering high up in the sky.

What is happening?

A cluster of 4
or possibly 5 orange lights.

And then another...

and another.

But this one glowing white
and approaching from the right.

The white object remains
stationary for a few moments

and then leaves the scene.

Then, moments later, another
white light suddenly appears

right next to the cluster.

The lights continue to appear
and disappear in different areas

above the baseball field.

Eloy is freaked out.

I was skating downtown, and I
was going down my usual path,

and I just saw, like,
some lights in the sky,

and I freaked out, and I,
like, pulled my phone out.

Immediately, it was like,
"Aliens!"

You know, like,
it looked crazy, so...

What is that?

They appeared one at a time,
and then they would disappear,

and then they would reappear
in different spots.

I was posting on my
social media, too,

'cause I was asking people,
like, "Does this look

like something you know
what it could be?"

And people were saying that it
could be, like, military flares,

but the way that they moved
was not a military flare.

Like, I was like,
"There's no way that's a flare."

I've never seen military flares suspend in the sky like that.

I don't see trails of them
being shot up.

I don't see the burnout
trails of them falling down.

I don't know
how these orange lights

are suspended in the air like
that and clustered together.

It's unusual to see.

The original 4 come back
in their original pattern,

which rules out
a lot of manmade crafts.

These can't be
incendiary in any nature.

These can't be lanterns
or the after-burners of jets.

Things like that can't go out
and then come back.

What I find most interesting
about this clip

are the hyper-white lights

that seemed to be
a little inquisitive

and they're coming in to observe
these clusters of orange lights.

Eloy believes at least one of those 2 white objects

may have been a plane
observing the observers.

It looked like I saw a plane
go from, like, the right,

and it, like, went around, and
it, like, stopped next to it,

and it just goes back down.

And I was wondering, like,
if they saw it, you know,

like, why wouldn't
they share it?

Could it be that whoever it is

feels we're not quite ready for
that kind of information?

Which then begs the question --

is this a friendly
extraterrestrial visit

or something more
that should concern us?

Are we being monitored?
Are we being documented?

Are these alien anthropologists
coming

with well-meaning intentions
to bring back information

about our civilization
to their cultures?

Or are we being scouted
for invasion, for destruction,

for weapons of mass destruction?

Who knows?

The lights
eventually disappeared,

and Eloy hasn't seen them since.

And though he's still unsure
exactly why they were here,

Eloy's cautiously optimistic
about the encounter.

There's no way that we're
the only living beings here,

so I saw it, and, like,
I was really excited.

but then I was also like,

what if something happens?

the instinct to protect
our children is hard-wired.

all the while assuring them they
have absolutely nothing to fear.

those assurances came back
to haunt her

when she discovered
the bogeyman

living in her daughter's closet.

a scary movie.

...she hears terrified screams

coming from
her toddler's bedroom.

Still, when Destini returns
to her own bed,

she can't help feeling
they are not alone.

I went to sleep that evening,
and I felt that feeling

like somebody is just standing
there watching you.

I was hearing noises,
rattling and stuff,

throughout the closet
that night.

And that's just the beginning.

My kids started having
more nightmares.

They were crying
in the middle of the night,

complaining that they were
scared,

hearing stuff down the hallway.

Most often, these things happen at night, around bedtime.

But one evening, Destini hears
some music playing

from inside
her daughter's closet,

which continues intermittently
throughout the night.

The next morning,
desperate to make it stop,

she goes to her daughter's
closet and opens the door.

If it plays again, Addy,
it's going in the trash.

I was like, I'm going
to take a look at it,

and sure enough,
as soon as I went to record it,

I mean, you've seen what I seen,
and it was the craziest thing.

Watch this small
light-up toy on the floor.

Yep -- trash.

Look at that.

All night long.

Now keep your eyes on the rack of clothes to the right.

Unh-unh!

Watch again in slow motion,

as a hanger begins to swing
back and forth on its own.

Then, the rack of clothes
also begins to move,

as if pushed
by an invisible hand.

Finally, the closet door
swings closed.

Addy, come here.

Unh-unh!

And then I run in there,
and I show people

because I knew I wouldn't have
believed it, you know,

so I wanted to show that there
was nobody in that closet --

just me.

When I actually
went into the closet,

I pointed down to the toy.

You could see that the power was
actually off on the toy itself.

See?
The power's off.

And it was off all night,
as well,

and it was still going off.

All night long.

And then as soon as I did that,

I was like,
"What am I thinking?"

I just grabbed my baby
and ran out of the house.

If it was just the toy,
we could probably explain it

as a malfunction,
you know, that happens.

But...

Yep -- trash.

...the toy turns on...

All night long.

...and then the clothes move,
and then the door moves.

Unh-unh!

When you add all of that
activity together,

that's what really makes you
feel like something's going on.

I didn't ever feel like
it was a nice presence.

I was a little afraid

and afraid
for my children, as well.

Let's examine
the trigger object.

She bought this
as a toy for her child,

and something seems
to be playing with it.

Look at that.

All night long.

But let's not assume that
the spirit is a child itself.

Maybe it's just using
whatever it can

to try to get its message
across that "Hey. I'm here."

It seems to me that whatever this poltergeist or spirit is,

it's just starting out.

I mean, it's starting out

with fooling around
with electronic toys

and it's starting to move
the clothes around.

It's possible that, you know,
if this keeps going on,

it's going to intensify
these hauntings even more.

But after everything
she'd been through,

Destini had no interest
in seeing

just how much more intense
it could get.

We just moved to Florida,
just bought a house.

So far, so good.
Haven't heard anything.

when things get a little weird.

We had our Christmas lights
stored in a garbage bag,

and they just started flickering
really fast by themselves.

They weren't plugged in.
There's no way to explain that.

And I called him, and I told
them to come home right away.

The bizarre activity
and the way it makes Randi feel

immediately brings to her mind
the statue James brought home.

Could there be a connection?

It was very, very weird
and very weird-looking,

and it just gave off bad vibes
from the very beginning.

She chalks it all up
to a bizarre coincidence

and tries to forget about it.

But the disturbing activity
continues.

We woke up with
scratches on us,

and we felt like
we was in danger

and that this entity
was gonna harm us.

I was waking up
every morning drained.

And I wasn't sleeping.
I was having nightmares.

So I ended up going
to my mom's.

One night, while Randi is
at her mother's house,

she video-chats with James,
who is still at home,

when suddenly, in the middle
of their conversation,

James sees this.

The basement door
shaking violently,

as if someone
were trying to get in.

I thought somebody
had broke in at first.

James is terrified

but works up the courage
to approach the door.

Nothing.

At least, no livingthing.

But then...

more rattling and knocking,
coming from the next room...

...this time,

from a small cubby closet
in the wall.

Yeah, I was too
scared at that point.

I was frightened
to open up the cubby.

Being home alone and that start
knocking in the door...

I just figured

I'd better not
keep teasing it more.

The rattling eventually stops.

James and Randi are
completely freaked out.

When you see a locked door
rattling like that,

it's incredibly scary.

That's an aggressive thing.

If you saw that, knowing there
was a human on the other side,

you would still be scared.

So for a spirit to have that
kind of aggressive energy

is terrifying.

All these doors,
it almost seems

as if there's something
outside the house

that's looking for a way in
and they're trying every lock.

When Randi and James
became more and more afraid

of the presence in their home,

that's when the activity
began to escalate.

Spirits can sense
when you are afraid,

which is why
it's really important

to try as best as you can
to be really confident

and tell them
they are not welcome here.

Now convinced
that the statue they threw out

somehow allowed an evil entity
to enter their home,

James and Randi turn

to a paranormal investigator
named Aman

to help rid the home
of this unwanted presence.

He instructs them
to use energized water

to purify the house.

But while they are doing that,

two terrifying written messages
suddenly appeared,

captured here in photos.

This thing wrote
"Help, Aman" on our door,

and then, in the bathroom,
it said, "Help me."

We believe it was trying to get
Aman's attention through us.

This is an interesting case
where these people brought in

someone to do a blessing
or an exorcism,

brought in blessed water
to put in the space

and the spirit responds.

And this is a classic trope that
happens in a lot of hauntings,

that when the big guns
are brought in,

when religious artifacts
or prayer

or sage smudging is brought in,
that the entity wants to stay

and gets agitated and angry
and clings to it.

With the writing
literally on the wall,

James and Randi move out of
their home

as soon as they're able.

When we moved,
we was a little worried

that it was
going to follow us.

So far, nothing
has happened to us,

and we're really
grateful for it.

something else

that will make you question
everything you believe.

Leigh Stevens is getting ready
to settle down for the evening,

when a violent thunderstorm

starts tearing
through his neighborhood.

The storm is so powerful

that Leigh tries to capture
some of it on video.

He points the camera toward
the most active part of the sky.

Then suddenly,

as he's facing a streetlight
two blocks away...

and listen carefully.

Just after a high
screeching sound is heard...

...a bizarre green glow
fills the sky.

This is
no ordinary thunderstorm.

and this is my video.

We had a pretty hectic
lightning storm that night,

big thunderstorm came through.

I was outside trying to get
video of the lightning

'cause it was striking over
and over in the same spot,

so I thought that
was pretty cool.

Little green thing popped up
in the sky, so...

We get a lot of
electrical storms here,

but we've never seen anything
quite like this.

We heard the little noise,

because it makes a little noise
at the beginning as it pops up,

and we're like, "Wow,
that's pretty interesting."

And there's something
else about this green glow

that makes it even
more interesting.

It's just a bit weird

because we couldn't actually
see it out there with our eyes.

We could only actually
see it through the phone.

So like, wow,
it's not out there,

but the phone is saying
it isthere.

My first thought would be maybe is it some sort of reflection.

If you're shooting through
a window, that's something you have to look out for.

But if you're not,
man, all bets are off.

I have no clue.

You can see, as I panned the phone around to both sides,

it actually stayed center.

It stayed where it was.

It wasn't something
in the phone.

This looks like a blanket.

It looks like a projected grid
that's suspended somewhere

between the surface of the Earth
and this crazy electrical storm.

And I can't dismiss
that gnarly sound

like this crunching of metal
that happens

right before
this green light manifests.

I will look at a video
and watch it five times

until I find out
how you fooled me.

And there's no fooling here.

It's not a glitch in the camera.
It's not a light reflection.

It's nothing mechanical.

It almost looks like
something is being projected

against the sky.

That makes me wonder if it is
extraterrestrial in nature.

Perhaps there's some
sort of signal

being communicated to the ground

or even a symbology
being conveyed.

So, the question
must be asked --

is this extraterrestrial
in nature?

The obvious go-to would be
some sort of UFO ship,

but why would it
suddenly appear like that?

A lot of people believe that
maybe it was struck by lightning

and deactivated
a cloaking mechanism

that it had on the ship itself.

Or could this be
something else entirely?

This thing,
it looks almost alive,

like a stingray in the water
or something like that,

but it's in the air.

I wouldn't call it alien
in nature,

but it's definitely something

maybe supernatural,

of weird weather conditions

and you just have something
at the right time

just going off
that no one's ever saw before.

No one, including
meteorologists and scientists,

seems to have
a definitive answer

as to what this unusual
aerial sighting was --

or, at least,
that's what they're saying.

How are scientists saying, like,
"Oh, yeah.

We don't know what that is,"
and then, "Okay, cool.

Well, see you at the next one."

What is that?

We are living in
the Marty McFly future,

and I still can't explain
a huge object in the sky

that's right in front of me?

Come on.
I want to know more.

I'm pissed.

To this day, Leigh is
no closer to understanding

what it was that he captured
that night.

But he hasn't lost hope.

We never saw it again.
That was the one and only time.

I'd love to one day find out
what it was, yeah,

then put my mind and a lot of
other people's minds to rest.

I still get questions
from friends --

"Did you ever find out
what it was?"

And it's "No.
No, I didn't.
