a couple in North Carolina...

It was so much louder
and so much closer

than what I was hearing before.

It scared the crap out of me.

...and even more
paranormal footage

you have to see...

When in active use,

given the sometimes
vicious clientele,

maximum-security prisons

are some of the most
frightening places in the world,

yet there are those who believe
that once they are closed down

for good and forever emptied
of the violent offenders

that once roamed their halls,

those prisons only get scarier.

After a truly unsettling
overnight experience

at Brushy Mountain
State Penitentiary

in Petros, Tennessee,

one particular man would
certainly make that argument.

Oh!

Well,
the Brushy Mountain prison

in Tennessee has a really dark
and checkered past.

Since 1896,
this place has housed

the worst of the worst
types of criminals,

even famously it
held James Earl Ray,

who was the assassinator
of Martin Luther King Jr.

It just gives you insight
on the types of people

that would stay there.

It was well-documented

that this was one of the worst
prisons you could stay in

because it was the harshest
of all the penitentiaries.

There is a lot of dark energy
in this prison.

And even though it mercifully

shut down for good in 2009,

that dark energy was
what attracted Omar,

an investigator
from Spring Hill, Florida,

to the now-abandoned prison
one night

during the summer of 2017.

and I filmed the video.

There's just so many buildings
to explore here,

so much history,
so much haunted history.

So I went into
the Brushy Mountain prison

with my best friend, James,

and something
that we like to do,

especially when we're in a place
like Brushy Mountain prison,

is we'll split up.

So we kind of hung out
a little bit at first.

He went one way.

I went the other way.

Yeah, there's no cell phone
reception out here.

We are on our own as of now.

Never split up.
That's rule number one.

Do not split up!

Doesn't anyone watch
horror movies anymore?

Always stay with your friends.

I'm gonna give you a little
glimpse here of death row.

There it is right there.

Perhaps Omar wished
James had stayed with him

by the time he ventured
into the prison's cafeteria.

This is the cafeteria
straight ahead.

There's been so many stories
tied to that cafeteria.

I wanted to go in there and see
if I would catch something.

I wasn't hearing anything.

I get ready to leave,
and I hear --

It sounded like something
moving behind me.

I turn around, and, of course,
it sounded like some metal,

and I see this chair
right in front of me move.

What the was that?

Oh!

In the cafeteria,
everyone is close together.

They're eating their food.

They're going about
their daily routines,

and this is going to leave
an imprint over time,

just the same routine,

the same actions over
and over and over,

and again, this is a prison,

so if something like a fight
or a riot broke out,

that would intensify
the chances for a haunting.

I get a little closer
to investigate,

and I ask it to move again.

Move this chair again.

Nothing's happening,
so, of course,

I get ready to walk away.

All right,
I think it was clickbait.

Oh! Oh!

I ran out of there so quick.

When chairs start moving around
on their own,

you're obviously gonna get
a little freaked out.

Oh! Oh!

There were no strings
attached to the chairs

that were moving around.

I mean, that was kind of obvious

because they were moving
in all different directions.

Oh!

And nobody else was around him.

I mean, you know, this --

Prisons weren't built
for a resort.

They were built
for punishment.

Oh! Oh!

Buildings like this that
housed hatred

and stressful environments,

like, it creates this, like,

flourish that it needs
to feed off of fear

and hatred in order for those
energies to keep manifesting.

So when you have a lot of
negative haunts like that,

buildings become hungry
for more negativity.

You don't want to be in a place
that feeds off of negativity,

and prisons tend to be
those types of places.

But it was only when Omar

migrated to
a specific cellblock

that he encountered his biggest
surprise of the night.

There's so many
haunted stories

tied to
the Brushy Mountain prison.

One that caught me by surprise
was of the Magnificent Seven,

which was a gang.

Supposedly this gang
took four guards hostage,

and they ended up
shooting about,

I want to say, like, seven
or eight African-Americans,

two of which who died.

Now, if you go inside of this
prison cellblock,

the very first two,
the ones that died, they're --

Both of their names are James.

One of the stories
that people say is that

if you leave a cigarette

because James, the second prison
inmate that was killed,

shot and killed
by the Magnificent Seven,

you can actually see and witness
a cigarette being smoked.

Now, I tried to put this
to the test.

James, go ahead
and take a giant puff

and let me know that
you're here with me and...

Now, you can actually see
the cigarette getting puffed,

and I tried this myself at home,
and it didn't work.

I put the cigarette down,
and I thought

if I turned the lights off
I could blow on the head

and it would light up,
but it didn't.

Clearly this one, you could see
it actually getting sucked in,

not just, like, you know,
blowing all over the place.

Immediately after it happened,

he clicked his light on

so we could verify that
there was no one in the cell.

There was no one
around the cigarette.

It just --
It's almost unexplainable.

I've heard many reports
of cigarette smoke

being smelled in a place where,
you know, no one is smoking

and no one has even been
for months, days, even years,

so there's something about
tobacco and the paranormal.

There's some sort of
connection there.

Omar was using that cigarette
as a trigger object,

where you bring something
that hopefully the spirit

would be interested in.

If you were doing

an investigation
in an orphanage,

you might bring some toys.

In a prison,
bring a cigarette,

and I know people that have gone
on investigations

where, you know,
the former owner of the home

or a location was a smoker,

and they lay cigarettes
around to see,

you know, what might happen.

I wasn't expected anything
at all to happen.

I thought maybe it was just --
had to have been just from a,

just, gust of wind
coming through.

I'm not a smoker,
so I don't really know,

but I've had smokers tell me
that that, in fact,

was somebody
puffing on the cigarette.

It scared me so much
that as soon as --

I mean, it was, like, instant.

I turned my light on,

and you could see there
was nobody there.

The one common thing that
I find about every prison,

jail, and penitentiary is that
it housed violent people.

It has a history of fear
and despair and hopelessness,

and these things echo
through time.

It's just the perfect melting
pot of tragedy and trauma,

and that just sticks
to the walls like glue.

Brushy Mountain has to be
one of those places

where it was just truly unique
to me in so many different ways.

I mean, it was, to me,
hands down

probably the scariest place
I've ever, ever been to.

What is that?

Las Vegas is known as
the entertainment capital

of the world,

a place where people
go to watch shows,

win money, and release
their inhibitions,

but people aren't
the only beings

that Vegas seems to attract,

and Peter Slattery thinks
he has the proof.

What is that?

It's interesting
when it comes to Las Vegas

and Nevada in general.

They do seem to have
a lot of UFO sightings.

Which might be fitting
considering Vegas

is only 130 miles from Area 51.

Far and away, that southwestern
area of the country

is just more sightings
of not only UFOs,

but unexplainable
lights in the sky.

Obviously, you know,
with Roswell and Area 51,

some of our most,
you know,

storied UFO tales
come from these places.

Perhaps it's sort of
a collective of

you've got big sky
out there.

You don't have a huge
population.

You got a lot of military
testing going on,

and you also have
the collective unconscious

that wants to see
extraterrestrial life

and wants to see
UFO activity.

When you're out in an area
like Vegas or any barren desert,

there's a tendency
to look to the sky.

You could see more stars.

You can imagine
the possibilities.

You wonder what is up there?
Who is up there?

And you feel a connection

that we're a part of something
greater, and who knows?

They might be checking us out.

Perhaps that's what
motivated Peter Slattery,

a resident of Albury,
New South Wales, Australia,

to drift his eyes
to the skies while visiting

Las Vegas in July of 2018.

and the footage
that you're being shown

was filmed by myself.

It's beautiful.

I was on a trip to Las Vegas,

and I was there with
a friend at the time,

and it was just
a beautiful sunny day,

and he had to go to a bank.

As soon as we walked
out of the bank,

up there in the sky
was this object.

It's just stuck there. It's --

- Look at it on the screen.
- It's not moving at all.

- It's moving, man.
- It's beautiful.

At first, it sort of came
through sort of

like a rainbow
of iridescent light,

and it was doing
just not normal things.

Look at this, man.
Look at the screen.

Oh, it's moving a bit, huh?

The first thing
that I went through

was just trying to debunk it
in my mind, you know?

What's the wind doing?
Is it a plastic bag?

Is a balloon?

Is it some debris
that's got caught up

in a wind draft
or something like that?

But this thing was just
doing nonconventional things.

It was morphing.
It was changing shape.

It was continuously going back
and forth

and changing direction
as well.

When you first see this,
it's kind of out of focus.

It's hard to really figure out
what it is.

It could be a balloon
of some kind.

Then you get these really
quick glimpses

where it comes into focus,
and you say,

"Well, that's not like
some kind of balloon

that I've ever seen before."

The thing
kind of changed shape,

but also it was
kind of stationary.

It wasn't really going anywhere.
It was just there.

What it looked like to me was
almost like a jellyfish minus

the tentacles, just kind of,
like, a floating, like, body.

The really weird thing is

that it seems
to have something within it.

The guy taking the video
actually says,

"Is that a person?"

Oh, that's someone
in there. What is that?

Doesn't necessarily
look like a man,

like a pilot or anything.

It, to me, it looks like,

like a weird embryo.

You sort of just get
a little bit of anxiety,

but it's because you're
just trying to capture it.

You sort of look at it at first
and go, "What's that?"

And then you want to get it
on the camera just to see,

you know,
can you get some more data,

but it's more excitement
after that

once you're able to sort of
see it a bit more

and, you know, just in awe,
I guess, with what it's doing.

No. It's getting closer.

Wow, dude. Wow.

I feel the presence
of this being.

The gentlemen
in this video seem

to have a spiritual reaction
to what they're seeing.

They're genuinely surprised

and interested
in what this may be,

and they're moved
by the experience.

So we're just looking at
the subject.Oh, my god!

It's coming. Dude, look.
It's coming down.

That's something that actually
falls in line

with a lot of
UFO reports over the years,

where people have claimed
to see something

that moves them spiritually

or changes their outlook
on life altogether.

I just felt that day something
was gonna go on.

I get an awareness.

It's more, like, just a thought
to look up,

and that's what happens.

A majority of the time,
there's something there.

I know it sounds crazy, but this
is not the only sighting

that we have seen of
this sort of

flying jellyfish-like cell

floating in the sky.

We've had reports
very similar to this

and seen video, even,
from Philadelphia, Oregon.

It's not something
I can explain.

But Peter believes he can.

It's kind of my understanding
that extraterrestrials

would not even be probably
5% of what's going on.

Some of these beings are coming
from completely different

realms where even planets
are nonexistent.

These things are popping in
and out from not just, you know,

other civilizations that we can
see through through the Hubble,

but places that we're not
even aware of yet

on a multidimensional
existence,

and we have
the same sort of thing

with the paranormal aspect,

where we've got residual
and intelligent hauntings.

These things are sort of
residing right next to us,

so it's hard to sort of
just pigeon hole it,

but there are
extraterrestrial civilizations,

but then these other beings,
which are a majority,

it's really a mixed bag.

It's not just black and white
with the answer.

There's a lot of gray area
with what's going on.

who filmed her canine pal

barking ferociously
at an empty doorway

for seemingly no reason at all.

What is it, honey?

That is,
until she reviewed the footage

and connected
the nefarious dots.

Look at that right there.

What is that?

In 2014, Jolly,

a resident
of Nashua, New Hampshire,

was enjoying a low-key day
with her dog, Buffy,

when something unseen seemed
to catch Buffy's attention.

I'm Tia Jolly,
and I filmed the video.

That day, I was just watching TV
and crocheting, and my dog was,

you know, sitting
on the bed right next to me.

All of a sudden,
she just started barking out

into the hallway, and I'm like,
"What are you barking at?"

You know?

Animals sense a lot of things
that we can't explain.

I mean, they have sensitivity
to seismic activity.

They have certain
sensitivities to danger,

and we don't know how their
sensitivities work, necessarily.

So I grabbed the camera
and started filming her.

All of a sudden, she jumps up
and starts going crazy

and starts just really
barking like crazy,

like, you know,
something came into view.

It's all right.
What is it, honey?

It's okay.

She's always seen stuff in there

and always started
barking at stuff.

I kind of figured, you know,
it would just be a good idea

just to get it on camera.

Tia didn't think
too much of it

until she decided to dissect

the video she had recorded
frame by frame.

I've had that video since 2015,

and I've looked at it
so many times,

and I could never really see
what she was barking at,

but I just decided to go back
and take a closer look at it.

And that's when
she finally saw something,

making a second video
to highlight her discoveries.

Watch the far left of
the doorway as an apparition

or a series of apparitions seems
to materialize around the wall,

almost taunting the dog.

And then you're gonna
see, like, a head poke out

right over here.

When she slowed that
video down,

you did see some kind
of movement outside the door.

It's hard to say if that's
what the dog was reacting to,

but he was reacting
to something.

It looks like
gremlins looking out

the side of the doorway.
It's, like, weird.

It's like they're popping
their head in and out.

There was something
moving outside that door.

See that right there?
What is that?

It's a strange way
of how energies

that are trying to muster up
enough energy to manifest,

you see little bits
and pieces form and dissipate,

and you're seeing here

what looks like
an apparition doing that.

Like, it starts gathering
enough energy

to kind of manifest its face
and head but then dissipate,

and then you start seeing,
like, the lower half,

and then the arms a little bit
just kind of come in and out.

When I actually saw stuff
on there, I was just --

I was in shock.

I was like, "Oh, my god.
She really did see something."

I'd never seen anything like
that, like, with my own eyes.

Dogs bark at everything.

Is the mailman outside?
The wind blows.

It's hard to say that,
"All right.

This bark means
there's a ghost."

But whatever it is, it seems
like he's defending the room.

They're not illogical animals.

They've been bred to perform
certain functions,

so the dog
is sensing something,

and you could tell
by its demeanor

that it's sensing something

that's perhaps
threatening in some way.

Oh, I know she's barking

at something paranormal
or abnormal.

I think it was affecting her.

Since she was able to see
and sense everything,

I think it was, like,
kind of stressing her out.

I don't know.

I didn't know if it could, like,
physically harm her or anything,

but so much stuff
has happened in that place.

It's unreal.

What kind of stuff?

It's a building where
older people live,

and, like, the majority
of the people

are over 60 or 70 years old,

so there has been
a lot of deaths.

There have been times where
I'd be standing in my kitchen,

and there would be, like, a bang
right underneath my feet,

and I would think
it's the person downstairs,

but there wouldn't
even be anybody home.

There would be banging
on the walls,

on the ceiling, footsteps
following me into the bathroom.

The toilet would flush
every time I'd go in there,

or the tub would turn on
and turn off.

I'd be woken up in the middle
of the night with sounds

of, like, marbles or pennies

or something thrown
on the floor,

and it would wake both me
and my dog up.

I've heard growling.

Oh, boy, just so much stuff.

If there were deaths
in this house

and this woman
is having experiences,

absolutely the dog
could be reacting to that.

If there are creaks in the house
or whispers,

dogs will hear it
before we would.

Now, the one advantage that dogs
have over humans

is that their hearing
is better,

their sense of smell,
and their eyesight.

We all have similar
overlapping sensitivity

to certain types of light,
but other animals, dogs, cats,

can see a little better
than we can,

so sometimes your dog or cat
might be looking at something,

and you would think,
"He's just looking at nothing."

Maybe they are seeing
something that we don't,

and in this case,
the dog is reacting.

He says,
"Yeah, not on my watch."

It felt like I couldn't control
my surroundings

to keep her safe, so I just --
I had to leave.

So leave she did,

to an apartment
across the street.

I've been here three years,
so I don't know,

but we're doing good so far.

on your mountain bike,

it's important to be prepared
for the unexpected.

One must have a plan
for inclement weather,

getting lost in the wilderness,

or even a run-in
with a wild animal,

but nothing could prepare

even the most experienced
outdoorsman for this.

A mountain bike rider set out
to make a video

showcasing a trail
in the Hungarian countryside.

His ride was mostly quiet
and serene.

That is, until he was passing
between two garden walls

when he was suddenly ambushed
by an unidentifiable creature.

He seems to be jumped by some
sort of genetically mutated

or altered
humanoid monkey type creature.

It's ripped.

It's got tons of muscles,
super muscular,

and it's kind of, like,
a grayish-black color.

If you really slow it
down and freeze-frame it

and look at
the physical features,

it doesn't seem to have
that bushy hair

that a monkey would have.

It seems larger.

It seems kind of gray and smooth
rather than brown and hairy.

And the fact that it disappears

so quickly leads to a whole
other series of questions

you want to ask.

Whatever it was jumped right out
and back over the wall again.

That wall looks like
it's about 7 feet high.

That's an insane jump to do,

so whatever it is,
it travels fast,

and it could jump really high.

If I was the bike rider
in this case,

I would not have stopped
like he did.

You got to book it out of there

if you see something
that doesn't belong.

And since there are no nonhuman

primates native to this region,

one is left to wonder.

Exactly what kind of creature
could this agile attacker be?

Surprisingly, this wouldn't be
the first time

a monkey human hybrid-type
creature has run amok.

In fact, in 2001 in New Delhi,

a creature known as
the New Delhi Monkey man

terrorized residents
for several months.

Police were actually trying
to track this thing down,

and nothing was
ever discovered.

One of the cryptids that has
been seen and mentioned

more often recently
around the Arizona region

is something called
a demon monkey.

The descriptions paint
a creature

that resembles a baboon,
a baboon that's crazed,

a little more gaunt,

a little more wild,
if you will.

Right here in New Jersey,

I've been long documenting
the Hoboken Monkey-Man.

This was a story that was
so shocking

at the time that
the schools were all closed,

and the children
were sent home

because of the stories
of this Monkey-Man

that was sighted in the city.

The biker heard
rustling in the bushes

just after the creature
disappeared from sight,

but otherwise never saw
any sign of it again,

and given what little
we know about it,

that might not be a bad thing.

This guy is lucky
that he got away from it

before it ripped his face off,
and I know for a fact,

you mess with animals
in the wild,

whether they're
of this Earth or not,

and your face,
it's gonna be gone.

explored the terrifying ordeal

being waged upon
Mattie Smith-Clark

and her husband, Devon,

as they attempted
the document the sights

and sounds of a mysterious
creature outside their home.

I felt something.

Like, I felt eyes on me,
and I just felt,

like, this, like, danger.

At that time,
there was no consensus

regarding what exactly
this creature was.

I guess this would fall under
the category of a shadow person.

What this reminded me
of was a hidebehind.

I'm seeing a lot of people
suggest that it's a rake.

Months later, Mattie
is no closer to determining

exactly what she and Devon were,
and still are, dealing with.

But what they lack in certainty,

they make up for
in brand-new video evidence,

which they're hoping will
eventually lead to some answers.

Following her initial
encounters in late 2018...

Mattie, a resident of
Burlington, North Carolina,

set up security cameras

attempting to gather further
information with no results.

Then, a few weeks later,
a major discovery.

What is that?

My name is Mattie, and I'm
the one that filmed the videos.

My husband went out
to our back building,

and he was gonna weed eat
and stuff like that,

and it's a very tight spot
between the bush and the fence,

so it was a spot that he had
to take the weedwacker

or whatever to, and that's
when he saw the footprints.

Look at that.

It had rained the night before,
so, like,

wherever there was, like,
not grass, it was muddy.

There was footprints,
but we lost the, like,

trail of it in the grass,
like, pretty quickly.

I've never seen a footprint
like that before.

The heel of the foot is just --
It's weird.

It didn't look like
a human footprint.

Where the heel would be,
where the toes would be seemed,

all right,
in the general right area,

but in the middle it seemed
like it thinned out

so much more than
a human foot would

or even a sneaker or a shoe
or any kind of footwear.

14 inches.

It's obviously humanoid-looking,
but definitely not human.

They look like very skinny,
very curved-out, bowlegged feet,

and they're very long,
which kind of gives suggestion

that this thing is very tall.

See that?

I had a cryptozoologist
reach out

and give me,
like, their analysis.

I do remember them saying
that it was big.

Like, it was a really tall,
most likely thin creature.

If that is the actual footprint

of what's coming around
their house at night,

I wouldn't even want
to meet that thing.

But Mattie's biggest
fright was yet to come,

when one evening,
about a month later,

while relaxing on her
back porch,

she heard a strange yet oddly

familiar sound
coming from the woods

and immediately started
recording with her phone.

I heard my voice,
but it was almost, like,

it was really low
and seemingly far away,

so I wasn't sure
it was my voice.

I didn't know for certain,
but, like,

I just felt like
it was me talking.

There are quite a lot
of cryptids

that are known
for mimicking voices --

the wendigo, which can mimic
the voice of a loved one

to try and lure you to them.

There's a bubak,
which mimics a baby's cry,

same reason, to trick you
into coming closer.

The Pope Lick Monster
of Mud Creek,

that's known to mimic
the voices of family members

that ultimately will
lead you to a bridge,

and then once
you're on the bridge,

a train comes through,

and you end up
jumping to your death.

It's a very common power
in mythology.

But is voice mimicry
limited to just cryptids?

When a human-sounding voice

seems to be repeating things
that she says,

it takes it out
of the sort of realm of this

being a cryptid animal.

It becomes more of
a paranormal spirit demon

type of a question.

I've had cases where
I've gotten EVPs

that I hear someone's voice,
and I said, "Oh, that was you,"

and that person
was nowhere near.

That person wasn't even
in the building,

yet their voice
was on the recorder.

Now, how did that happen?
Mimicking.

Having had enough of
the creepy late-night visitor,

they rented out the house
and moved away.

After a few weeks, the friend
they rented to reported back

to them with some news.

He and the neighbors
have both said

that every piece of activity

that was happening
has stopped since we moved.

Then, a sudden terrifying
realization --

the Clarks' mysterious stalker
might have moved with them.

My car alarm started going off
every night

between, like, 3 and 4 a.m.,

despite the fact
that there's, like,

20 plus other cars
parked out there.

Only my car alarm goes off,
and then we've been hearing

this, like, abnormal
scratching on our back wall.

Just like a house
could be haunted,

sometimes a person
could be haunted,

and no matter where they go,

no matter how many times
they move,

that attachment
will follow them.

I think they have to
bring this to an end.

They can't just say,
"I'm not gonna worry

about it anymore."

So something has to be done
for them

to figure out
what this thing is.

The paranormal toolbox
is filled up with many items

and things that are designed
to help lessen energy

or clear up negative energy.

If you're talking sage, that's
there to clear negative energy.

If you're talking holy water,
that's more of a blessing,

and it's connected
to your faith.

If it's taking domain
of your house

just by asserting yourself
in a manner that says,

"You are not allowed
to be here,"

that's your own energy
enacting upon the location,

so it could be many
different things,

and sometimes you need
to try all three.

that rickety old mansion

at the end of your street
covered in vines, cobwebs,

and memories
might just in fact be haunted,

but so could anything and anyone
else for no reason at all,

and even the most innocuous
activity, like,

say, taking a shower,

can trigger
an interested spirit.

No one knows that better

than the family
of Brittney Michaelis.

That door
is still shaking.

Michaelis,
who lived with her family

in Tenino, Washington,

had begun to pick up on
a particularly bizarre

phenomenon
related to her little sister

that finally forced
their mother to take action.

Whatever it is,
you're scaring the hell

out of me and my family,
and you need to stop it.

My name is Brittney, and it was
my mom who filmed the video.

About 10 years ago, we moved
into the house that we lived in.

My little sister, every time

that she would get
in the shower...

- Mom?
- Yes, honey.

Okay.

The door would start rattling.

It wasn't that hard at first,
that noticeable,

but over time, it got what
sounded like louder or harder.

Oh, my god.

- You guys aren't touching it?
- No. We're not touching it.

Okay, I had to make sure that
my kids weren't touching.

- Oh, god!
- It's okay, honey.

Ghosts seem to like
manipulating doors, windows.

It doesn't take a lot
of physical force

for them to do it,

and if you believe
in poltergeists,

sound is really what
they're trying to achieve.

They move things specifically
so that they can make a sound.

It happened with me once
and with my other sister once,

- but with my little sister...
- Mom?

...almost every time for
a good year, almost every time.

It was the weirdest thing.

It's funny that this
only happens

when the youngest daughter
is taking a shower.

Oh, my god.

Perhaps this entity
is somehow attached to her

or wants to be around her
all the time.

- Oh, god!
- It's okay, honey.

Obviously, young people
have a lot more energy

than us old folks.

I think everyone can attest
to that,

and because of that,
ghosts may attach themselves

to said young person
to drain their energy

to be able to communicate
with the real world.

In this case, this ghost wants
to communicate via the door.

So Brittney's mom
set up an age-old system

to get some answers.

Okay.
I need to ask questions.

Can you shake the door
once for yes, two for no?

When the mother used the door
as a tool for communication,

she set guidelines --

shake once for yes,
twice for no.

She established exactly how
she's gonna use the door,

and then she used it...

I need to ask questions.

...to have questions answered.

Now, this is paranormal
investigating 101.

Are you friendly?

Do you want us
out of the house?

Does anybody in my family
know you?

No, nobody in my family
knows you?

Back in the early spiritualist
movement in the mid-1800s,

the Fox sisters,
upstate New York,

who sort of started
the spiritualist movement,

they would communicate
with people

just through knocks on the wall,

knocks on the table...

...knocks on the floor,
so, yeah,

that's old-school communication
in the paranormal field.

Intrigued and a little spooked,

Brittney and the rest
of her family

crowded around
the other side of the door

to listen
to the back-and-forth.

We don't know you.

You didn't touch the door?

It was really scary because,
I mean, we were all

just watching, and it was --
I don't know.

It still gives me the chills.

And after several
minutes of questioning...

Are you a male? No.

Are you a female?

...and several
specific guesses...

Is it Grandma Phyllis? No.

Is it Grandma Dina? No.

...Brittney's mother
finally determined

what she believed
to be the identity...

Okay, so you're a female?

...of the mysterious spirit.

Janelle?

It's Janelle,

My cousin Janelle.

Are you kidding me?

Oh, my god. Holy.

Janelle actually died not long
after my second sister

was born in '93.

Janelle used to always
pick on my mom.

She would always mess
with my mom when --

after I was born,

Janelle decided to bring
over a giant Big Bird

that made a lot of noise
just to annoy my mom.

Most times she loved it.

But is there a chance
this spirit

was not exactly
telling the truth?

Are you a female?

Brittney reluctantly
suspects that may be the case.

I think that it was
mimicking her

or pretending to be her
or something.

Janelle?

I just have the oddest feeling
that it was just pretending,

just in some way
to mess with her --

My cousin Janelle?

...or something because Janelle
was one of her favorite cousins.

Well, if you pay
close attention,

early on in the video,
they actually ask the question,

"Is this a family member,
or do you know our family?"

And the entity answers
no to both of those questions.

But does anybody
in my family know you?

No. Nobody in my family
knows you?

So in my mind, whatever this
thing is, if it is an entity,

it is lying through its teeth.

Regardless,
Brittney and her family

decided not to stick around long
enough to find out for sure.

We moved out of that house
four years ago,

and it hasn't happened
since that particular house.

But the question remains,

why was one particular
family member

the subject of this haunt?

If this only happens when this
one girl is in the shower --

- Mom?
- Yes, honey.

Okay.

...that means that
she's being targeted.

Oh, god!

It's okay, honey.

Usually when you have
inhuman haunts,

which tend to lie
about their identity,

a lot of the times they target
specific beings in the family

because they have a trait
or an attribute to them

that they could feed off of,
and in this case,

the little girl seems to be
fearful of this energy.

Oh, god!

And just like a lot of inhuman
energies kind of start out,

it feeds off of fear.

It would scare
my little sister enough.

Oh, my god.

She felt like she was being
almost punished for something,

and she didn't know
what she did wrong.

That door
is still shaking.
