Firstly, why?

Why are these two women victims?

They are not typical
victims of serial killers.

Victims of serials tend to be
hitchhikers,

elderly people, prostitutes,

people whose lifestyles
make them vulnerable.

No, our victims are not
from a high risk group.

They seem to have been chosen.

Something links them both to the
killer.

And we have to find that link.

Now this is

a very basic...

lifestyle chart

that I've started putting
together

for Elizabeth Peel

from statements given by her
close friends and family.

It's quite easy to build up a
picture

of her current lifestyle,

her various circles of
friends and acquaintances,

her routines,

where she shopped,

places that she visited
regularly.

This should eventually give us

a fairly comprehensive
picture of who she was.

Now, if we were to do the
same thing for Claire Savage

we would be able to pin
them up side by side

and immediately spot the
overlaps.

Now these then are the areas to
target.

- Could the victims have known
the killer?

- Yes, very possibly.

Or he might've gained entry by
subterfuge.

He certainly didn't like
breaking into places.

I mean that's for certain.

He might purport to be some
sort of service engineer.

- We've already checked
all the service industries

for the first murder, ma'am.

There's no record of them
being in the area on that day.

- What about a bogus official
perhaps?

bigger clue as to the why.

Hatred and revenge might
be the killer's motives.

I believe the beatings
are very important to him.

They telling me that

he's carrying a great
deal of rage inside him.

And that he's most unlikely to
be able

to hold down a close term
relationship with someone.

- Most of the blokes I know

fall into that category.

Suppose that in both instances

the first blow

some kind of club or piping.

The first blow would probably

have knocked the victim
unconscious,

giving our killer time to
bind them to the chair.

But maybe he wants them to be
conscious

throughout the beatings,

before delivering the second
lethal blow to the temple.

What does the nature of the
blows to the head tell us?

- That he's a sick bastard.

- The killer knows where to
strike.

- And he's also forensically
aware.

Forensics found no foreign
fingerprints

or significant fibres at the
first scene.

Now that tends to indicate
that he will probably

fall into one of three
categories.

One, an experienced criminal

who probably spent some time in
prison

and has learned a lot
about police procedure.

Two, someone who's relatively
intelligent,

reads a lot and has gained
the information from books.

Or three,

someone who works within the
criminal justice system itself

or has links with someone who
does.

- So when will we get a
detailed profile of our killer?

- What kind of profile would you

the heat of his rage is at its

and make him return to normality

becoming much more difficult to
trace.

Either way, we are looking
for a very dangerous killer,

and one that would probably kill
again.
