harsh and beautiful landscape

played backdrop to the world-famous
Lord of the Rings trilogy.

It is from here
that teams start the second leg

of our race around the world.

John and Murray were the first to arrive.

Yeah! [laughs]

And should be first to depart,

but have failed to emerge from their hotel
on time after a mandatory rest period.

Johnny and Muzza slept in,
either on purpose or by mistake,

we're not quite sure.

So now second-placed Carla and Hereni
will be first to depart.

Oh, my gosh. "Fly to Siem Reap, Cambodia."

The Cambodian city of Siem Reap

is the gateway
to the spectacular Angkor temples.

Teams will travel to the bustling
trade hub of the old market.

Here, they will sample
some local tasty treats.

Teams will be tucking into a plate
of Cambodian delicacies: fried tarantulas.

Only when they've finished their plate
to the satisfaction of the vendor,

will they receive their next clue.

-Whoo! Let's go.

[Carla] If we can inspire Kiwis or Maori
or women or mothers,

even if it's just one person.

We've just got to play strategy.

You know, one of the greatest things
that I think we have,

-as in terms of an asset, is--

And we assess character. You know,
for us it's a people game.

I've been to Cambodia once before.

[Daniel] There's just a subtle difference
in motivation

between us and some of the other teams.
We're not here, like,

hell-bent on getting to the end.

[Ryan] We're here to actually explore
and discover the world.

The people are lovely.
Cambodian people are really lovely.

We're finally up. Slightly behind time
with a couple of extra Zs.

So after winning the first leg,
we got the two Express Passes,

one for ourselves and one
that we could give away to another team.

We were confident it'd put us
in good stead.

[Murray] A couple of teams have passed us.

Which is good, they basically didn't
sleep much the night before, got up,

went to the airport,
and waited there for hours.

a couple of the New Zealand teams
have taken it very seriously.

Because of the sleep deprivation
and how miserable I was,

I'm so miserable.
I just wanted to go home.

It's just nuts. We're both really tired.

for our kids and for us.

via Sydney and Melbourne

both arriving at the same time.

teams must search for their next clue.

where we bought our Angkor Wat tickets,

we were given some pedometers.

and at the certain point
where our pedometers got checked,

if they were close to matching,
you could win a bonus.

trying to get to Angkor Wat,

and push hard to get that next clue
and the next challenge ahead of us.

I'll give it a go.

Like all Road Blocks, this is a task
that only one team member can perform.

In this task, teams will need
a good eye for detail

and an even better grasp of numbers.

Once in the main courtyard,

the team member performing the Road Block

must count the number of monks
wearing red and yellow prayer beads

before collecting an offering
and ascending the stairs.

Inside the temple are two monks.

Team members must pick
which monk to give their answer to,

but only one of the monks will confirm
whether their guess is correct.

The other will try to trick them.

Only when the team member has given
the right answer to the right monk,

will they receive their next clue.

-Okay. Let's do this.
-You've got those.

"Who's a zen master?"

-You want me to do it?
-Yep.

[Ashleigh] It was a brain teaser
sort of one,

so I thought, "Well,
that will probably suit me better anyway."

-Do you want to do your first Road Block?
-I'll do my first Road Block.

[Sally] My initial strategy for counting
the monks was just to count them.

I didn't really have a system as such.

Good luck, Ash. You can do it.

[Ashleigh] They were moving around,
sitting down, standing up.

It was like a head spin.

[Jarrod] I've given her the advice
to slow it down and try and get it right.

It's gonna be a hard one,
but I reckon she's up to it.

I had my own little counter.
I was using that to count.

Basically, the rhythm I had
was to try and count in rows.

[Sally] It was impossible
because they're all walking around.

They're all dressed the same.

Trying to count them
and walk through them at the same time,

and it was just so confusing.

[Jarrod] This is the three Aussie teams

we want going the whole way.

Me, Tyson and Daniel, we made a pact.

And there might be things down the track.

If we get rid of too many
Australian teams, it could affect us.

From now on in, it's us three.

We're sick of the Kiwis
winning everything.

I counted them as best as I could
and I was the first one to run up.

We had to present them with a flower.
There was a left and a right.

Apparently one of them
was going to trick us

and only one would give us our next clue
if we said the correct answer.

And straight away it just knocks you down,

from going so high

and we felt like we were

The first leg and winning that,

So we can skip a task or a challenge.

made it very difficult.

We had to go up
an incredibly high flight of stairs.

It wasn't quite as easy
as what you would imagine.

already at the Road Block
when we arrived, which was crazy.

I thought that if I got up high
and I could see everyone,

I could methodically work out
how many people were wearing beads,

but the trouble is,
they were all going different directions.

[Sally] Hey, guys.

We realized that it was going to be
really difficult

to get through this challenge,

so the three of us sort of teamed up
and started discussing with each other

what had been tried
and what hadn't been tried

and what we thought it was.
I had the numbers that people had tried,

which meant that if that number
was written there,

then it's not to be tried again.

-[Ashleigh] I got 18, she got 19.
-[Sally] I got 20.

So 17.

So there's two teams still missing.

[Jesse sighs] Start again.

[speaks Khmer]

without counting the monks,
without grabbing a flower.

to be tenacious and to never give up.
