I hope everything goes as best as possible,

we are in June and it seems that

things are finally starting to get better and

in fact there have already been several couples

who have asked us if this month of

June we could have a pre-wedding, so

as you can imagine we have started to

jump for joy.

That is why we would like to dedicate

this entire chapter to talking about how we

prepare, how we organize all our pre-weddings.

That is why we have prepared several points

in which we are going to talk and

we will tell you in detail how we

work.

The first point of all is to prepare

the couple, that is, to take into account

that it is the primordial thing, we have

to make them understand who we are as

photographers, what we want to do in their

session and not only prepare but also pre

-educate.

We have to have shown not only when

we meet the couple but with the photos

that we are going to publish both on

the website as it can be on Facebook

or as it can be on Instagram.

That has to be very marked so that

there is no surprise at the last minute

and above all, in short, that we can

work as we like, which is how best

we are going to get very interesting results.

Once we have the couple more or less

prepared and we have already told them that

what we are going to do is something

more than a few photos but they are

going to live a great experience, we are

going to choose the location.

The location is fundamental, I could almost say

that it is the most important of all

and before I start talking about the location

I would like to tell you that to

know or to get the location right you

have to know first what type of photographer

you are, if you like to play more

with the composition, get lost in a city

or if on the contrary you like it

more, look at what the couple itself is

and the environment in quotes is not so

important either.

I mean, you may work better either on

the beach or in the mountains, you have

to be clear about that.

One of the important points for us to

choose a location is that we can work

in that same location for at least about

two hours.

What I personally like is that when I

arrive for a location to be there almost

all the time, first because I have to

be focused, I have to know the couple,

I have to know at what points they

are working better and at what points they

are not doing so much with which I

will have to work there more.

Normally we usually always choose the place where

the pre-wedding should be done.

We let ourselves be advised, we always ask,

for example, the couple if they have any

idea or if they want something, but always

as we have already prepared the couple, we

have explained to them that in what places

we could work well.

Now, let's say that the couple tells us

that they want to do a report, for

example, on the beach.

Of course, for me personally, the beach is

a wonderful place to sunbathe, or to bathe,

but not entirely to take photos.

It's not that I don't like it, I

just don't feel 100% sure because I

don't see so many creative resources to play

with.

That is, for me, a beach could have

three resources, just the sand, the horizon of

the sea and then the sky.

With which, once I have run out of

those resources, my ideas will quickly run out.

With which, whenever I can, I will pick

it up for home.

What happens when we do a pre-wedding

on the beach?

I will always try to see if there

is a coastal town near that beach.

For me, a coastal town means, as you

can imagine, being able to play with lines,

with lights that come in from the sides,

interesting backgrounds ...

I mean, with something more chicha, or for

me, I mean, for my way of being

as a photographer, well, it will help me

a lot.

The duration that we usually invest is two

or three hours, and it is also essential

to choose when we are going to do,

for example, the session.

Of course, it is also like what I

was telling you, you have to be clear

about what type of photographer you are, if

you like to work with hard lights, if

you like to work with very soft lights

...

I mean, in the case that you like

to work with very soft lights, it is

obvious, you would have to stay with the

couple either early in the morning or at

the last hour of the afternoon.

If we are talking about our case, we

usually stay around two hours, two and a

half hours, more or less, before it gets

dark.

Because this way we have the possibility of

playing with shadows, with direct lights, that is,

with something more chicha.

You see that I am always trying to

pick up for home.

Although I am very clear about who my

clients are, for example, who is paying me

for it, but it is also, as I

tell you, I do not want to let

them see that in order for them to

really get the best of me, maybe they

should let me advise a little.

And what is also essential, in the locations

we always visit them.

It is essential for us to know what

type of location we have.

It is not so much to know what

type of light that is going to affect,

but it is more to know how many

resources we have and if we can really

be there for two or three hours.

If you see that if I say the

time I dedicate to it, which is two

or three hours, it is because it is

the time, more or less, that the experience

that has given me to know it.

Less than two hours I do not arrive

at all and more than three hours, I

have to be honest, I run out of

good ideas.

So I prefer to give them the best

of me and forget a little about all

this.

Something very important is to know how the

couple is going to be dressed.

Of course, I am not going to tell

them how they should be dressed, of course

not, but it interests me a lot and

notice that almost all couples, if not all

couples, always ask us, hey, what do we

wear?

And it is a phenomenal moment to think

about how it would be great for your

photograph that they were dressed.

Something that I always indicate is that they

go elegant but that they feel comfortable and

at the same time that they present themselves,

that they do not go disguised, but that

they go handsome above all.

And above all, it is something fundamental and

I am picking up for me, I ask

you to please go, if possible, with tones

that are a little dark.

Why?

Because for my type of photography, which then

you know that I am going to use,

for example, high contrast, I also want to

use dramatic tones, I want the clothes to

accompany me a little more in what is,

for example, the work.

In addition, if we also play with hard

lights, that type of, for example, tones in

the dresses work great.

And something also super important is the rhythm,

okay?

If I talk about rhythm, it is the

same as if we compared, for example, when

we are photographing a wedding, you know that

you are, and at the same time that

you are photographing, you think, okay, okay, I

have family photos, I have photos of the

bride, I have photos of the groom, I

need something else, I don't know, photos of

friends, right?

Well, in pre-weddings it is also about

taking a narrative rhythm, okay?

Of course we are not documenting a story,

but we are playing with our images.

What I mean by this, what I am

going to have, for example, in my head,

I would go thinking, okay, if in this,

for example, if in this image that I

am doing now the couple is separated, in

the next they should, for example, be together.

And if the next photo is in a

super closed shot, in the next photo I

am going to open the shot completely.

We are seeing a session in Barcelona in

When I say interesting lights, it is not

as possible, I want to go super fresh,

I want it not to weigh me almost

anything, that is, I mean, I'm going to

go with a body, a 35 and a

45, and that's where it all ends, I

may have a flash or I may not,

but I'm not going to carry more with

me, okay?

Because even, well, I will carry a backpack

twice as small, that is, because I wear

it at weddings, because I want to relate

to the couple, I want to be close

to them, I want, come on, I don't

want to have movement problems, okay?

And after all, I already know what kind

of lenses I am going to use, which

I always use to do, for example, portraits,

35 in this case, when I want to

play both with the couple, with the environment,

and the 45, well, when I want to

focus on what the couple is, or with

different parts of it.

deliver to a couple that has hired us

for a pre-wedding, okay?

This is a couple from London who asked

me for a pre-wedding session in Madrid,

so they came to Madrid on a weekend
