How are things going?

How are you preparing for the weekend?

We are a little busy, tomorrow we have

to go to Madrid, we have a workshop

there, and you know, all that implies a

bit of fuss, but hey, if we have

the same feedback we had last weekend, great.

In today's video I want to talk to

you about something important, well, everything is important,

but in this video I just want to

talk to you about one of those philosophies

that I tend to have from time to

time with you.

Because in the previous chapter, when I showed

you the winning photos, or the photos awarded

by Firles, there were two photos, or there

were two photos, which is the one I'm

showing you now, and this one too, in

which, when I was looking at them, something

really funny came to my mind, because, as

always in life, they are all experiences and

photography is part of that.

The thing is that both one photo and

another were captured thanks to a good friend,

Frank Bouturet, whom I have talked about here

many times, it seems that he is almost

my brother, he helped me, or he opened

his doors for me to photograph with him,

for his weddings, one was in Edimburgo and

the other was in the Alps.

The reason why I went there, the reason

why I went to both Edimburgo and the

Alps, was to make a portfolio.

By that time, we are talking about 2015,

by that time I was starting to receive

applications from couples from outside Spain who were

getting married in Spain, what is commonly known

as destination weddings, that is, they come here

to get married in the south of Spain,

in the Catalan coast, or even in what

would be the islands.

Of course, at that time I started, as

I was saying, to receive applications, I replied

and sent, I mean, I sent them a

list of rates, with all the stories, and

I didn't close any, I didn't hire any.

Soon I understood, to my great regret, that

couples don't hire us just because of the

quality we have.

Sometimes, as bad as it seems to you,

or as bad as it seems to me,

or as strange as it seems, they are

not going to hire us because of our

quality.

That is not the fundamental factor.

Sometimes, yes, of course, but it is not,

if we generalize, it is not the last

point where a couple will choose a photographer

or another, but what is also going to

be fixed a lot by those future clients

in which they feel reflected in the photographs

that we have in our portfolio.

Not only, as I say, because of the

technical quality, but because of the people we

have photographed, that we are showing.

In short, I didn't have an international portfolio

and I received proposals, applications from international couples.

Of course, I didn't hire any.

And I was going crazy because I thought,

damn, I'm sending this gallery of a Spanish

couple, which was fucking great, I send this

one, which is pure quality, and I don't

close anything.

What the fuck is going on?

Of course, what the fuck is going on?

I didn't have an international portfolio, that's why

I left.

That's why I went with Fran Boutounet to

both Edinburgh and the north of France, well,

the north of France, to the Alps, sorry,

to make a portfolio.

Of course, once I had a portfolio, everything

started to change.

And the couples that I started to receive

from outside Spain, I started to show them

that new portfolio.

Of course, it wasn't just with Fran Boutounet.

You already know that I also went to

Italy with Andrea Corsi to Tuscany to make

a portfolio.

But I would like to extrapolate that a

bit to all of you.

Because in many workshops they ask me, hey,

I want to do destination weddings, hey, I'm

Spanish and I want to do weddings on

the beach, because it turns out that I'm

from Extremadura, or it turns out that I'm

from Burgos and I want to do weddings

in Mallorca.

Or you have a wedding portfolio on the

beach, or you're not going to get it.

And if you want to get weddings of

a type of client target higher than yours,

if you don't reach that target, or that

type of client, it's obvious that they're not

going to hire you, no matter how good

the photos you take, or no matter how

good the photos we take.

I always give the same example.

I've never photographed until this year, okay?

What will we photograph?

The first wedding of two girls.

Do you think I'm not prepared to do

just a wedding of the same sex of

two girls?

Well, it's the same for me, I mean,

there's no difference when it comes to facing

one wedding or another.

But why didn't they contact us?

Or if they contacted us, why didn't we

hire them, maybe?

Well, there may have been a better photo

option for them, obviously.

But we never showed a portfolio of two

girls, so we were at a disadvantage.

Why do we photograph so many gay weddings?

I mean, what do I mean by two

guys?

Because we have a lot of weddings.

And sometimes we even dedicate ourselves to it.

Well, I don't know about that, but I

guess you all understand where I'm going.

I mean, and I guess some of you

are already hitting the wall or you must

be thinking, okay, now I understand why I

haven't positioned myself with this type of clients,

or why I've never started, or if I've

received a request from someone who's getting married,

or from a very high social position because

I haven't closed if I'm doing weddings in

a village or weddings of very normal people,

so to speak.

I hope you don't understand, or I hope

no one understands that I want to look

like a classist, that's not why, but I

want to get to the point and I'm

using a type of language that I hope

you all understand.

That's why I wanted to share with all

of you this story about how important and

frustrating it was for me in 2015 to

understand that photographic quality, something for which I

had been struggling for years and years, well,

I realized that it wasn't important.

And in fact, we said it the last

day in the workshop, as Erika said, there

are photographers who do a good job, but

it's not a top job, they don't have

photos of which you say, wow, an incredible

quality, but they have known how to work

perfectly, everything related to marketing, with positioning, with

planners, with other providers, and to this day

they are clearly above us, they have known

how to work that, they have known how

to hide those technical or photographic deficiencies, so

to speak, and they have known how to

position themselves, and that is to make them

go wild, to say them congratulations, and we

feel that we have to perfect that.

But well, going back to the subject, I'm

going crazy, it was just that, I wanted

to share with you this little thing or

this story that was hidden behind the two

photos of what I did to get international

clients at the end, and I assure you

that it worked, that's why I hope that

this short video will help you, or be

a little clarifying for some of you.
