Hello friends, how are you?
How are things?
Welcome to a new video, here we are,
September, September, September at full speed already, who
was going to say it, huh?
I have, come on, a while ago, believe
me, if I had been asked that in
September I would go like this, I would
not have believed it, I don't know how
many, I think this month we have three
or four weddings, several workshops, I don't know
what, I don't know how many, and in
October five weddings.
I have to visit Mexico, Ireland, France, we'll
see what happens, I don't complain, that's what
I did in my life a couple of
years ago, but like suddenly not, of being
so untrained in just a year, suddenly now
all this madness, but hey, let's hope everything
goes as best as possible, okay?
In today's video I want to talk to
you about nothing more and nothing less than
wedding planners, because there are some of you,
and especially there are a couple of colleagues
who have asked me, in which they have
asked me a little bit to talk about
how we have arrived and how we have
maintained that relationship with the wedding planners, or
with the wedding planners, that there are also,
and how we work with them, but above
all it was how to try to start
working with them and such, okay?
I'm just going to divide this video into
small, into three small, four, into four small
parts, okay?
In which first I am going to tell
you what my relationship has been throughout all
these years, right?
First of all, I must tell you that
my relationship at the beginning was not very
good, because I started working with some wedding
planners at a regional level, and as always,
sometimes you meet professional people and there are
times that you meet people who are not
entirely professional, right?
Of course, I did not have a very
good experience because, well, personal things, strange matters,
that is to say, those wedding planners, or
those wedding planners at the beginning of my
career, what they were dedicated to was just
to prepare candibars, right?
And little else, of course.
My relationship with them was not the best,
and I thought I didn't have to force
myself to get to work with wedding planners,
so I didn't do anything to get to
work with this type of providers.
Well, at 2, 3, 4, 5 years old,
I realized that no, that was not quite
right, since I began to see that many
of the colleagues I followed, those big weddings
they photographed, were thanks to the fact that
they had been hired by wedding planners, with
which I began to move my ass a
bit.
So what happened?
That I started sending emails, emails, emails, emails,
to all kinds of wedding planners from all
over my country, and the answer, what was
it?
Zero.
I never got an answer from any wedding
planner that I wrote an email with the
job and such.
Why?
Because after working with them, you realize that
they receive emails like that every day, with
which they are tired of not even reading
them, they are barely there, for a good
job you have and all those things, you
understand me?
So there came a time when I said,
and how do I start working with them?
Because there was no way, and I wanted
that, I wanted to get my head in,
because some colleagues had told me that they
were doing quite well working with some type
of wedding planner, so I left it almost
impossible.
How do things usually go?
Working.
How did I get to work, or we
got to work, with a wedding planner?
For the mere fact that in the summer
of 2016, a great year, we were hired,
first in a month of May, by a
Brussels bride who was getting married in the
Balearic Islands.
That couple, that couple from Brussels, first contacted
me, who by the way found me by
Fiddler's Photographers, hired us and we were lucky
that that couple hired one of the best
wedding planners in the Balearic Islands.
Of course, that came to us like a
ring on the finger, I mean, we didn't
even know who she was, but well, she
saw us working, right?
And she saw us working and she asked
us, hey, do you have the phone or
something?
And we gave it to her, our surprise
that the next month she was already moving
weddings, that is, helping to hire weddings, right?
And that wedding planner never asked us for
anything on the day of the wedding or
anything in return, it just made it easier
for us, just work, right?
And that same year, in 2016, another couple
who was getting married in the Balearic Islands
hired us and in turn also hired another
wedding planner from Germany, although she lives in
Mallorca, that also, that wedding planner is one
of the best in the Balearic Islands.
With which, that year, without knowing why, we
got to work with two, with two amazing
ones, that is, with two very good ones,
with which those wedding planners already began to
facilitate us, well, for different weddings, of course,
all those weddings used to be of a
fairly high client profile, with which we got
our heads in a market that we did
not know how to get to it, that
is, it was all like saying, wow, what
luck we have had, but luck no, after
all, luck, if you don't work it, it
won't come to you, let's see, no one
thinks, wow, this one has a flower in
his ass, no, he doesn't have a flower
in his ass, that is, based on effort,
effort, effort, he has gotten there and he
has known how to talk or meet or
be connected with different types of providers, right?
In other words, that was the way we
started, for example, getting to it, to them,
to the wedding planners, but what I must
also say is that there are also beneficial
points, because there are also non-beneficial points,
but we are not going to go into
detail, I mean, and I don't want this
video to be used to generalize and for
everyone to think that working with wedding planners
is the most important thing.
In fact, I have a good friend, whose
name I cannot say, but I can say
that he is from France, who tells me
that he does not want to work with
wedding planners, and I have discussed with him
many times, but hey, let's get into it
and let's not lose the thread, I want
to talk about the benefits, right?
And one of the biggest benefits is that,
for me, I don't need to be constantly,
or I don't like to be constantly behind
couples talking about money, the wedding planner does
it for me, that is, I give her
the rates and the wedding planner, that is,
it is directly the one that is going
to sell me, who better than a wedding
planner to sell me?
I mean, the clients are always going to
trust her, right?
Who better than the wedding planner to sell
us, to help us with that hiring.
Speaking of hiring, I remember that that first
wedding planner, yes, that happened to us, right?
I mean, sorry, with whom we coincided that
first wedding, it happened to us the following
month or helped us hire a second wedding,
but when I sent the wedding planner the
list of rates, what she told me, okay,
Victor, your job is very good, but with
those rates you can't go anywhere, you have
to raise them, and I said, how?
They had never told me this, raise, and
I said, how to raise?
She said, look, Victor, if you want to
work with me, I mean, you have to
raise rates because you can't break the market,
you can't charge either.
Of course, I was going with prices of
national couples in my city and I intended
that with those prices to hire international couples
who got married in incredible places, who left
an incredible amount of money, and that wedding
planner wants the best providers.
What she told me is that with that
price they are going to think that you
are bad.
I raised rates and I told her like
this, but how much do I raise?
And she told me, double.
That is 100% true.
I mean, the wedding planner is going to
worry that you are always there, in the
market, that you don't do things wrong, why?
Because if he wants you as a provider,
you're going to have to be up to
the rest of the providers, the rest of
the photographers.
In fact, that wedding planner, at one of
the weddings, the fourth or fifth wedding in
which we worked with her, something escaped from
her in English, in which she said something
like this, is that you are not like
them.
I then asked her, what did you mean
by that?
And she started laughing, because she is always
very sarcastic.
And the answer was, as if saying, is
that you are not like the Spaniards.
That comment, and she told me, son, how
not?
I said, no, you are like those of
my country, like the Germans.
And I said, and that says because you
are super rigid.
And you, if you say that you arrive
at 10, you arrive at a quarter to.
I answer an email at 10 in the
morning and you answer it at 15.
If you don't write me a WhatsApp, it's
like you're working and you're going to answer
me.
I mean, you're a professional.
And I like to work with people like
those of my country, who are strict, and
you are.
And how have I been concerned, for example,
about keeping them or keeping those wedding planners?
Always trying to be professional, that's the first
of all.
Second, they have never asked me for a
photo in return, but I have always told
them before the wedding, do you want me
to take a picture of something, for example,
in particular, so that we have it, for
example.
And I always say, no, no, Victor, if
you want, you give me something.
What have I done later?
I have created an exclusive gallery, at the
same time that I have created one for
the couple, another for the wedding planner.
And according to the wedding planner, I have
even come to print a small album with
the details of the wedding.
Just one little thing.
A long time ago, or years ago, sorry,
I was in a European country, specifically Italy,
in Tuscany, to cover a wedding with a
great friend.
When I arrived at the wedding venue, because
we went to see it the day before,
the day before we went to visit that
castle where the couple was getting married the
next day.
Because the wedding planner was preparing little things
there, and they wanted to introduce me and
let me know a little about the farm
to be prepared for all this.
When I opened the door of that little
castle that was there, the office where they
hired the weddings, there was the wedding planner
answering emails.
When I turned the door, there were a
couple of showcases, or a couple of tables,
sorry, with two albums.
Those two albums were from two of my
best Italian friends.
I saw them and thought, son of a
bitch, how could this have happened to me?
I mean, what do you think the wedding
planner is going to do with that album?
In addition to thanking you?
Teach it?
Don't you understand me or not?
I mean, you have to take care of
them.
And with many wedding planners there is no
longer just a work relationship, but when it
is their birthday, sometimes, I have called them,
and on the day of their birthday we
have sent them a bouquet of flowers, like
the last one that was Mom recently.
We find out and send her a bouquet
of flowers to the hospital room.
And we don't do it to hire weddings
later, because there is something else, there is
already a relationship, but you have to be
there.
I mean, don't pretend that someone gives you
a job and you never answer, not even
with a WhatsApp, hello, how are you, how
is everything going?
You have to be a little honest and
you have to do things a little bit
well, just like you call your colleagues, the
wedding planner too.
You have to do it, okay?
And to finish with this thing, right now
we are in a moment in which, after
having worked with several suppliers or several wedding
planners, what has happened to us or what
is happening to us now, specifically in Baleares,
for example, or in the rest of the
peninsula, is that by working with several wedding
planners, the wedding planners, sorry, like us photographers,
we know who the direct competition is, or
all this set of things, the wedding planners
too, and they see that that competition or
that wedding planner that is working with some
photographers called Victor and Erika, and they see
that they do a good job, and they
see that that competition wedding planner is also
happy with them, and they see that those
suppliers are good.
So we have the wedding planners who want
to work with the best suppliers, it is
as simple as that.
So what is happening to us is that
now, for example, we recently closed a wedding
with a wedding planner that we did not
even know existed, and we have realized that
it is quite good, but how did it
find us?
It is not because the bride and groom
told her, I want that photographer, no, I
want that photographer, no, it is because the
wedding planner wants to work with us, she
wants to have us in her portfolio too,
so that she can have several photographers or
partners in her portfolio who are good and
can distribute and can say, like I have
these 5 caterings that are brutal, I have
these 5 photographers that are brutal, stay with
the one you like the most because the
5 are spectacular.
And that is the cache that a wedding
planner has, the level of suppliers, in addition
to professionalism and all these things.
So having said that, I don't know if
this video contributes something or if it will
be of help to many of you, but
it is not only for you to reach
an international market, in my country when I
work with a wedding planner, or with a
wedding planner, it is not always good to
generalize, but I usually work or they are
usually couples who usually leave some money at
their wedding, and their wedding sometimes has nuances
that I like, or has things or has
elements that have been taken care of more,
aesthetics and all these things that I think
you are already understanding me.
But remember, do not take this video out
of context, and Victor has already said this
and Victor has already said the other, it
is not good to generalize, and less in
this world.
It was just my points of view or
my ideas and what has worked for us
or what has worked for us.
So nothing else, I don't roll up more,
it will no longer serve us for anything
else, so that.
Be good and see you soon, until next
time.
