So, candlelight is a really cool light source,
but we often don't consider it as a
light source.
It's ambient, it's beautiful, it might look good
in the background, all those different things, but
there's a couple of really cool things that
you can do with them.
And also, there's a couple of pitfalls that
you gotta be wary of.
So, what we're gonna do, we've got some
beautiful candles just here on this ledge.
Let's get our couple to come nice and
close to that candlelight.
Remember guys, that candlelight is usually from below.
When it's from below, it means it might
create a very unattractive, unflattering shadow on the
upper cheekbone.
So, we just need our couple to tilt
their faces towards the candlelight so that we
get that even light.
So, that pose will be dictated by what's
going on.
So now, okay, so you're seeing what's happening
with Lisa is that she's got those shadows
falling on her upper cheekbone, just underneath her
eye.
It's not as flattering.
So, what we're gonna do now is tilt
her face.
That's it, chin down.
Perfect, just there.
Beautiful, and we're gonna get Dylan so that
you can feel this moment too.
Even if I don't include your hands, it's
important that we get that beautiful feeling there.
Now, let's just get that back to where
it was.
If we just put it up a bit
and then sandwich it right behind your back
there.
That's it, and then get it on your
other shoulder as well.
I think that'd be really nice.
Yeah, and then you can hold it because
I'm gonna be hiding your hands here.
Okay, stunning.
So now, let's see what we've got.
We've already got it on a tungsten white
balance, so incandescent.
I'm gonna shoot now at 1.8, because
I think that'll be really cool.
Let's bring the ISO down a little bit
there, and love this.
Of course, we're gonna get a little sliver
in focus, and that's okay.
Lisa, chin down a little bit, turn your
face to the right.
Beautiful, that's gorgeous.
Love that, hold it there.
Beautiful.
Nice little softness between you guys, little warmth.
Just feel that warmth, that's gorgeous, beautiful.
Beautiful, love that.
And let's get that beautiful reflection of you
there as well, oh, that's awesome.
What we'll do, I'm gonna turn off the
ice light that was illuminating me, and then
I'm gonna shoot this square.
I can do it afterwards, but why wouldn't
I do it now?
Yeah, that's stunning, guys.
Keep that expression, it's really beautiful.
Hold it there, hold it there.
Just take my time.
Again, beautiful expression, guys, that's gorgeous.
Bit of giggling there, you're whispering in her
ear.
It's stunning, beautiful.
Eyes at me, really mysterious, Lisa, gorgeous.
And that is beautiful, wow.
So guys, join this tutorial on candlelight.
It reminds me of just how beautiful candlelight
can be.
So I should practice what I preach and
shoot more of it.
