The Legend of White Snake

Episode 36

My Lady, leave me alone!

I'm doing it willingly!

My Lord, I will fight with my life to take you home today.

If humans hinder me, I'll kill humans. If gods hinder me, I'll kill gods!

Who is it?

Furong?

Are you really Furong?

Furong, do you know?

Do you know how I've endured these years?

I promise. I won't have you leave me again.

I wronged you.

You're not Furong. Who are you?

You're not worthy of calling my mother's name.

My Lady.

Xu Xian, allow me to go help your wife.

Xiao Qing?

You came here to acknowledge your family, right?

I'm telling you! In this Crystal Palace, there's no place for you!

Your Dragon King Majesty,

I guarantee that this is the last time I'll visit you.

Bai Suzhen, do you think that you're saving Xu Xian?

The one you're saving is the Heart Demon.

It doesn't matter whether he's a human, a demon, or a wretched demon.

He's still my husband.

He's the father of my unborn child.

My Lady... My Lady.

My Lady.

Sister! Sister!

This is the Currents Command Badge. It can lead the water of the Easter Sea into the Qiantang River and flood Mount Jin.

Bai Suzhen, you still won't stop?

Fa Hai, listen well.

If you insist on killing my husband,

I'll lead the waters of the Eastern Sea into the Qiantang River and flood Mount Jin.

Green and White snake, you're acting in defiance of the heavens to this extent!

Aren't you afraid of Heaven's retribution?

Fa Hai, the lives of thousands of Lin'an citizens are in your hands.

I'll ask you one last time. Are you going to release him?

Move the mountains, invert the seas, transform Heaven and Earth.

Just watch me turn the universe upside down.

Your Majesty, we've brought over the Four Immortal Lords. Please give out their punishment.

I had the four of you watch over Xiao Qing.

She unexpectedly created such a big calamity.

I'll go report to the heavenly court

and take back the Currents Command Badge before dealing with them!

Yes!

Go to Jinshan Temple! Master there can resist the flood.

He has a way to protect everyone!

Hurry and go there! Hurry!

Fa Hai, let Xu Xian go!

Xu Xian has the Heart Demon in him.

Releasing him is what the Heart Demon wants.

The entire world will face a calamity.

Benefactor Xu has already told you that this is his own choice.

He sacrificed himself voluntarily. Why won't you fulfill his wish?

Fa Hai, listen up. I don't care what you think.

I also don't care what Xu Xian thinks. I only want him to live.

What common good? What sacrifice for a just cause?

What does that have to do with Xu Xian? What does that have to do with me?

You couldn't kill the Heart Demon, so you want my husband to die to solve the problem.

People like all of you are

cowardly, selfish, and extremely shameless.

Fa Hai, if Xu Xian dies today,

I want all the people in the world to accompany him!

How satisfying, Elder Sister! Why should we continue to pretend to be kind and righteous?

Today, we'll freely and joyously be evil demons for once!

Benefactor Xu sacrifices himself to eliminate the evil, but he is innocent after all.

I'm willing to bear all of this sin on my own.

The two benefactors, once the Heart Demon is eliminated,

Fa Hai is willing to die to atone for this sin.

How dare they! They actually dare to use the Eastern Sea to fill Qiantang?

This white snake trespassed upon the heavenly court before.

She acts recklessly.

If this continues, I don't know what other big problems she'll cause.

We have to think of a way to stop her.

- Lord Mars. - I'm here.

I command you to lead God of Thunder and Goddess of Lightning, as well as ten thousand of heavenly soldiers and generals.

Send down the thunder and lightning of heavenly retribution, and kill all the demons in the mortal world.

Yes!

- Ao Guang. - I'm here.

You should also return to the Dragon Palace as soon as possible.

See if there's any other way to stop this.

Don't let people in the world become destitute and homeless.

Yes, Your Highness.

Bai Suzhen, would you really rather lose all of your cultivation

just to slaughter all the common people?

You forced me to do this.

Older Sister, in life and death, I will be with you.

- Everyone in Jinshan Temple! - Here.

Guide the people into the Depository of Scriptures.

Recite the Sanskrit scriptures and protect the people's lives.

Yes!

[Depository of Scriptures]

Which evil-doer dares recklessly take people's lives?

It was me! Drop your thunderbolt!

Older Sister!

My Lord.

My Lord. My Lord.

Wake up, My Lord.

My Lord, wake up.

My Lady.

Sorry, it's my fault.

I shouldn't have clung to the favors of the mortal world and seek love and marriage.

I married you and destroyed your life.

My Lady, the most blessed event in my life

was to marry you.

Being able to love each other, I will die without any regrets.

It's the same for me, too. I will be with you.

I'll be your companion in life and death.

My Lady, what's wrong with you?

My Lord, I'm going to give birth soon.

Amitabha.

Breaking the tribulation through birth and using your body to protect your mother. It is truly a great virtue.

[Depository of Scriptures]

God of the Stars, what's going on?

God of Learning has been born in the mortal world.

He actually sent himself into this snake spirit's belly.

Now he has been born in response to the tribulation thunder.

What should we do then?

Once the God of Learning descends into the mortal world,

he'll carry the responsibility of helping the emperor and supporting the emperor in governing the country.

Why don't we report to the Jade Emperor and decide what to do later?

All right.

Stop! You created such a major disaster, you want to just let it go like this?

Bai Suzhen, you abused the Currents Command Badge from the Eastern Sea and made the people suffer in Lin'an!

Come! Have Bai Suzhen brought to the heavenly court to receive heavenly judgment!

No. Just kill me instead!

Presumptuous!

So what?

Today, I have to imitate Nezha

to return this flesh and blood to you!

- Boss! - Boss!

Xiao Qing!

It's Guan Yin.

Thank you, Guan Yin.

Bai Suzhen, after being in the mortal realm, have you been enlightened?

I understand.

Greed, anger, and foolishness are like dark clouds covering the sky.

Only a pure heart and repentance will remove retribution to see the sky again.

I turned to the evil path because of love and made a big mistake.

I'm willing to be punished.

Fa Hai, although you have been focusing on eliminating the Wretched Demon,

you're still stubborn and prejudiced; thus, caused people to suffer.

Fa Hai, do you know your mistake?

I'm ashamed as a Buddhist disciple. I will accept punishment.

The Heart Demon is the cause.

Because of selfishness, I, Suzhen, caused a great disaster. My crime can't be forgiven.

I'm willing to use my life as redemption.

No, I swallowed the pill first. My wife only tried to save me after.

I'm willing to bear the consequences myself.

If my wife's sin is unforgivable,

I'm willing to atone for the sin with My Lady for generations.

Everyone has feelings and great kindness in their hearts.

Ao Guang,

do you understand now?

I was wrong.

I understand now.

Xiao Qing wasn't the one who broke us up.

It was me. It was my selfish cowardice.

I didn't dare to give up everything to live and die with Furong.

What should you do then?

I, Ao Guang, am willing to accept the heavenly punishment.

It is a great virtue to repent from going astray.

Ao Guang did a good job in managing the Eastern Sea. The heavenly court will be lenient.

Fa Hai, let go of your obsession and sever your root of the Demon Heart.

Your sins can be considered as being offset by your merits.

Bai Suzhen,

you flooded Mount Jin and harmed people's lives,

it's a major sin. You will be punished heavily.

I know my mistake. I'm willing to accept any punishment.

Bai Suzhen, starting from today, you will be confined in Leifeng Pagoda,

recite and copy the scriptures and become a vegetarian.

Unless Leifeng Pagoda collapses and the water in West Lake dries up,

you will never see daylight again.

My Lord, I'm leaving Shilin in your care.

I don't have the blessings to watch him grow up.

When he can understand, tell him that

his mother loves him.

Older Sister, I'm entrusting my husband and Shilin to you.

I will repay your kindness in the next life.

Older Sister!

Xiao Qing, remember to take good care of yourself.

You have to act with kindness.

Older Sister!

My Lady!

My Lady!

My Lady! My Lady!

My Lady!

My Lady.

My Lady, don't be afraid.

I will wait for you until we meet again.

The stars move and change, the sea also becomes farmland.

I don't believe that

Leifeng Pagoda won't collapse and the water in West Lake won't dry up!

My Lady.

Qing'er, come with Royal Father to the Dragon Palace at the Eastern Sea.

From now on, the Crystal Palace will be your home.

- That's right, Boss. - Yes!

- Yes, Boss. - Come with us to the Eastern Sea!

I understand. If you're not willing, I can set up another palace for you.

No!

It's not like that.

Sister and Master Xu's separation, part of it was because I ran amok.

If I didn't make the mistake on the night of the new moon, the succeeding events wouldn't have happened.

These are all my mistakes.

I already agreed to follow Guan Yin and cultivate with her.

The day when the Leifeng Pagoda collapses is the day when I, Xiao Qing, will return.

[Righteous and Honest]

- Turn around. - "The Confucius said, exercise filial piety at home, respect friends outside." (T/N: Reciting Analects of Confucius)

"Be kind to everyone, and make friends with good people."

"When there's free time, learn."

- "Exercise filial piety at home, respect friends outside..." - "Little birds can't fly high." (T/N: Reference to "Stratagems of the Warring States")

"If one doesn't study well..."

[Many years later]

"Those whose morals are shallow can't..."

- Careful, careful. - "Little birds can't fly high."

"If one doesn't study well..."

Here. Put it down.

Let me. Aunt, you must be tired.

Shilin, the imperial examination is just around the corner. You should just concentrate on your studies.

Leave this to Bilian and me.

Aunt, listen to me.

You, too, come over here.

There's a saying in this book, "The essence of benevolence is to serve the parents."

The book taught me to be filial and know manners.

How can I neglect my elders just because I'm studying? Wouldn't this be doing things in the wrong order?

I can't argue with you. You and your father are equally loquacious.

My father? Aunt, what is my father like?

Tell me the story about my parents again.

That's right, Mother. Tell us.

Your father and your mother...

- Your parents were the most loving couple I had ever seen. - This is for you.

In the past, they used to treat and save lives together at Baohe Hall.

Older Sister Bilian, why are you here?

My mother told me to deliver longevity noodles to you. She's afraid you will be hungry.

She just praised you and said you were studying in your room.

Today is my birthday.

It's also my mother's suffering day.

Shilin,

Aunt will cook noodles for me on my birthdays.

You will keep me company, too.

But Mother is alone and has no one to rely on and is far apart from us.

Aunt is actually...

Older Sister Bilian, what's wrong with my mother?

Are you hiding something from me?

I'm not. What would I hide from you?

I... I should leave. Continue with your studying.

Older Sister Bilian, tell me now.

I'm begging you.

Forget it.

But if I tell you, you can't be reckless.

I overheard my parents whispering last night.

Actually, Aunt wasn't confined in the heavenly court.

Shilin... Shilin!

Shilin, where are you going?

Why are you out here instead of studying at home?

If only Fenglei Pagoda collapses and West Lake dries up,

then my mother can be free.

I'm going to dig up Fenglei Pagoda and dry up West Lake.

No matter what, I must save my mother and get her out from there.

Shilin, West Lake has existed for thousands of years.

With just yourself,

how can West Lake dry up and Fenglei Pagoda collapse?

Aunt, when I was little, you told me the story of how the fool moved a mountain. (T/N: Reference to an old Chinese story)

I want to imitate the fool.

If West Lake doesn't dry up for a day,

then I'll scoop out the water for a thousand days.

No matter what, I must save Mother.

Yes, Shilin is right.

If he can't do it alone, count me in, too.

Why do you always make trouble?

Count us in, too.

Yes, and us, too.

Aunt Yu, aren't you preparing a dowry for Older Sister Pingan?

Why are you here, too?

Physician Xu and Miss Bai helped us a lot back then.

We will help whatever way we can.

Thank you, everyone. I'm very grateful.

May I ask if this is Physician Xu, Xu Xian's, home?

Physician Xu is my father.

May I ask who you are?

So, it's Mister Xu.

We're all people who had severe illnesses.

- It was Physician Xu who saved our lives. - Is that so?

You met my father?

How is he? Where is he now?

Physician Xu seems well.

It's just that he's traveling. We don't know where he is now.

We received his kindness and must repay him.

That's why we inquired about his hometown.

- That's how we found Lin'an. - Right, right.

Then my father, did he say when he'll return?

Physician Xu said that he wants to provide medical care to the whole world.

He hopes that his good work can make up for the sin committed by his wife at that time.

If the evil deeds are not cleared, he will never return home.

That's right.

Mother.

We found it. Yes, this is Physician Xu's home.

I understand now.

I know what I should do.

Shilin, what are you going to do?

I will study diligently and get an official rank in my examination.

One day, I'll do my best

and help the Emperor create a prosperous and peaceful country.

I want to do good deeds for Mother in exchange for the compassion from Heaven,

so our family can be reunited soon.

Regardless of whatever choices you make, I will support you.

If you study, I will light the incense for you.

If you write, I will grind the inkstone for you.

Older Sister Bilian, thank you.

Seems like Older Sister Xu should prepare a dowry soon, too.

Awakening and hell are only within a flash of thought.

This child has half the blood of a demon,

but he has a sincere heart.

It actually helps him to become a doer of good deeds. Amitabha.

Master, I'm enlightened now.

[Top Scholar]

Uncle. Aunt.

Since I was young, I haven't had my parents with me.

You worked very hard to raise me.

Without you two, I wouldn't be who I am today.

Thank you for your kindness in raising me.

Weird. Why was this place picked for the offering to Heaven this year?

I heard the Top Scholar went in person and solved the plague in Yuezhou. He did a deed of merit.

He didn't want any rewards,

but only requested to His Majesty that he wanted to sincerely pray to Heaven

to let his family be reunited.

His Majesty remembered Top Scholar Xu's filial piety to his family

and agreed to let him make the offering to Heaven here for the reunion of his family.

Xu Shilin of Xiantang sincerely requests for heavenly grace.

I, Xu Shilin, sincerely request that my mother can be released from the pagoda.

Look! What's that? It's a real dragon!
