Your Majesty...!

In the 4th month of this year,

there was a rumor that your father was planning an insurrection and bringing weapons into the Palace.

But I did not believe the rumor

as I believed that no one would be so evil as to do such a thing.

But now these weapons have been discovered at your previous residence.

Why are these weapons here?

Did your father ask you to store them here?

No, your Majesty! I know nothing of this!

This is your previous residence! This is where you lived and breathed!

If you don't know, then who has done this terrible thing?

I really... really don't know anything about this.

Why these things are here... I do not know, your Majesty!

Please believe me, your Majesty!

Your Majesty, this is irrefutable evidence!

Episode 4

Your Majesty, you must seize those responsible and make them pay for this treason!

You must not have mercy on those that cast aspersions on the throne and the King!

That's not all, your Majesty. The guards must have known about these weapons.

Arrest the guards of the Prince's residence and extract confessions out of them!

They will know who is behind this!

You must find the mastermind behind this and make them pay for this crime!

- Please hear your subjects, your Majesty! - Please hear us, your Majesty!

That is true. We cannot sit idly by while they cast aspersions on the throne and myself.

- Let it be as you all say. - Your Majesty!

Halt!

- What is the meaning of this? - Please forgive us, your Highness.

His Majesty has given orders to have all the servants of your residence brought in for questioning.

They don't have anything to do with these weapons.

I don't know anything about these weapons and neither do they.

That will be confirmed once they are questioned. Seize all of them and send them to be interrogated!

- Yes sir! - Seize all of them!

My son...

Release me!

Make sure that everyone is brought in! Do you understand me?

Yes sir!

- Finished already? - Yes.

Is there anything else I can help with?

If they find out we took you in, all hell will break loose...!

Who let that girl in?

- I told you that you can't come here! - Sir!

Did I or did I not tell you that I will beat you if you came here again?

If the Chief knew what you had seen, he would...!

- What? - N... nothing. Anyway, don't come here anymore.

Going back to the palace is impossible, so don't come back here again!

Sir! Sir!

Sir!

- Have you finished your duties at the Palace? - Yes. What brings you here?

- Did you go to that house again? - Yes.

You and Dae Su... Both are so foolish!

Oh! You have to have dinner!

- I'll go and make some soup. - No. I have to go back soon.

- There is chaos in the palace. - Why?

I think that this is it for the Prince.

Something's happened to the Prince? What's happened?

Office of Weaponry

- Make sure you polish every bit! - Yes sir.

- Give me some oil. - Yes sir.

Wow, my Lord! How can you write so beautifully?

It's a work of art!

Do you by any chance need an errand to be run at the Palace?

I know the Palace like the back of my hand!

You know the library? Everyone gets lost going there!

But even with my eyes closed, I know exactly where it is...!

- Shut up and go polish those guns. - Yes sir.

- It... It's broken... - What? Broken?

Where?

I... I didn't do it!

I didn't touch it, but it just fell over on its own and got all scratched up!

These aren't scratches! It's just the inscription of its creation and origin.

Stupid boy! You can't even read and you want to work in the Palace?

Sir! If there is ever any errand you need run at the Palace, please remember my name! Park Dae Su!

Shut up, you rascal!

I thought that scribes were supposed to go the Palace often!

- His lordship lied to me. - Dae Su!

Song Yeon!

Song Yeon! What brings you here? Did you come to see me?

Bad news! There's chaos in the palace! This might be it for the Prince!

Wh... what? Something's happening to our Prince?

My son... you must speak the truth to your mother.

Did you really not hear anything about these weapons from your father?

How can you ask me such a question?

Do you think that this was the work of Father?

Hong Bong Han - Maternal Grandfather of the Prince

Your servants are suffering torture at the Office of Interrogation.

But this is all for an ulterior motive. Sooner or later, they will implicate you.

What can we do now? Should we not try to prove his innocence?

What can we do?

They've found weapons in his residence! What can we do to refute this?

Your Highness, you must go to His Majesty and tell him that these weapons belonged to your father.

- What? - You must tell him that it was true.

That is the only way you can survive this.

Grandfather!

What are you talking about, Father? Tell His Majesty that it was all true?

It will not be accepted that you did not know of these weapons since they have been found.

Therefore, tell them that you knew your father had buried those chests there.

But tell them also that you did not know that they would be filled with weapons.

That is the only way you can survive this!

There is no time for delays, your Highness!

Send an appeal to the King, and beg for his mercy.

No matter what, you have to break His Majesty's fury.

But...

What will happen to my deceased father?

If I do that, then doesn't that make my father a traitor?

- Your Highness! - My father would never have done such a thing.

He would never have stored weapons for his own ambitions.

That is not what is important right now.

What will you do if the servants gives a false confession under duress of torture?

If they implicate you in this, then everything is over, your Highness!

Think of your mother, your Highness!

The lives of your mother and I, your grandfather all rest on your shoulders, your Highness!

Think of your mother, your Highness!

Have you finished writing your letter to His Majesty?

I have yet to do so...

Do you believe that your deceased father committed treachery?

Then... do you intend to go against your grandfather's advice?

My son...

No matter what happens, you must survive.

Princess Hun Kyung - Future Empress Dowager Hae Kyung

You must become King.

Then what must I do?

I cannot falsely smear my father's name.

At the same time, I also cannot cause harm to come to you.

Both you and Father have told me to survive and become King,

but I do not know how to become one.

My son...!

Mother!

I fear the Palace.

I fear Grandfather!

Mother...

What must I do today... and what must I do tomorrow...?

What must I do to survive?

Mother!

You are just eleven years old...

You are still so young...

These small shoulders...

Why should you have to bear such a heavy burden?

Mother!

Mother!

Your Majesty, the Prince asks for your audience.

The Right Minister told me that you had something to say.

Did you mean to confess your crime?

In that case, go ahead with your confession.

If you confess everything now, I may spare the lives of your mother and yourself.

I did not come here to confess to a crime I did not commit.

No matter what happens, I do not wish to exchange my life with lies.

Is that so?

My father did not commit treachery, your Majesty.

My father was loyal to you and the government until his last breath.

In that case, what evidence do you have?

I too want to believe that you and your father are blameless in this.

So tell me. Do you have evidence that you and your father are blameless?

Your Majesty...

Wretched boy! Did you come here merely to claim that you were innocent in this?

Are you accusing me of being a senile man who accuses others of crimes without reason?

Who was it who ordered you to store the weapon chests?

Weapon chests? That is impossible!

I don't know anything about them!

We know that you were following orders of the deceased criminal!

Speak! Why was it stored at the Prince's residence?

I did not come here to confess to a crime I did not commit.

My father did not commit treachery, your Majesty.

Your Majesty!

I found the person according to your orders.

- Come closer and sit. - Yes, your Majesty.

Nam Sa Cho & Chae Jae Gong

This man used to be a palace official.

He is skilled in martial arts and was once a secret investigator for the Palace.

I am Chief Eunuch, Nam Sa Cho.

Do you know why I have summoned you?

I do not know, your Majesty.

Are you aware that a weapons cache has been found at the Prince's previous residence?

Yes, your Majesty.

I want you to investigate this matter secretly.

I will give you five days.

Find out if it truly is the deceased Prince's weapons,

and find out the Prince's involvement in this.

Can you do this?

His Majesty has asked you a question!

Forgive me, your Majesty, but I still do not understand.

Do you... do you think that there is a conspiracy against the Prince?

No, I do not.

The weapons are irrefutable evidence.

But the rumors of rebellion and insurrection earlier this year may be mere rumors.

All I want is to find out who is telling the truth and who is telling lies.

If you need, you may use a trustworthy subordinate to help you in your investigation.

Listen well. I give you five days.

Within five days, you will have to produce some sort of evidence.

Yes, your Majesty! I shall do as you command!

You all know what kind of place the Palace is.

If there truly is a conspiracy,

their eyes and ears might already be here with us.

We must all move quietly and carefully.

Even if we pay for our lives, we must keep this order a secret. Do you understand?

You, investigate the Office of Engineering that originated the renovation at the Prince's residence.

And you, ask around the capital.

If this is truly the work of the Crown Prince,

then we must find Lee Dong Hyun and Kim Joo Hun who escaped during the round up.

- Yes, my Lord. - Hurry. We do not have much time.

My... my Lord?

- What did you want me for? - I need you to take care of something urgently.

You want me to help in such a covert operation?

I can't fight, and my brain is so small!

Not at all. You are my most valuable asset for this case.

- Why isn't he back so late? - Something must be wrong at the Palace!

- Uncle! Uncle! - Sir!

Is the Prince safe?

I don't know if your uncle's going to be safe!

What? Then what about the Palace?

What about the Prince? Has something happened to our Prince?

Wretched boy! Your uncle might die! I don't care about any Prince!

Uncle!

Your Highness...

You're a Palace official! How can you not know?

Do you remember hearing about the weapons cache found at the Residence?

Yes.

Those weapons were made with new technology, and therefore difficult to obtain.

In order to obtain those weapons, they must have smuggled them in.

If you investigate the smugglers,

you will also be able to identify those responsible for bringing in those weapons.

- And...? - You have to find the smugglers.

Wh... what? How... how will I do that?

I know your talents well.

There is no other official who knows the backstreets of the city like you, isn't it true?

Yes, but... How is that the same as smuggling?

You have to give me some direction!

You will have to find direction yourself.

My Lord! Why are you doing this to me? I can't do this. I don't want to!

Are you saying you would lay down your life?

Have you forgotten the Eunuch's Creed? A life for Disobedience.

If you will not follow orders, then I will accept your life in return.

If you don't want to die, you know what to do.

If you don't want to die, you know what to do!

Find the direction yourself!

What does he want me to do!

Your Highness... no!

Stop snoring!

Long time no see.

I heard you've given up being a thug and now a broker for houses.

I don't know how you find out all these things!

Anyway, come over here.

Where can I get some guns?

- G... gun! For what? - No need for you to know.

- Can you find me some? - No! I don't know how!

Then tell me where I can get some!

The Chung Residence at Gwangtonggyu may be able to obtain some, but it'll take a few months.

The Chung Residence at Gwangtonggyu?

- Two Yang! - Three Yang!

You must have gambled all night! Look at all this money!

Go away if you're just here to be talkative!

Is it enough?

- Start the round again! - New round!

Two Yang!

We can go now, don't you think?

Tell the Innkeeper in half an hour.

Please go and arrest my uncle!

He's been gambling for four days!

Foolish boy! I can't arrest him for that!

- It's the inn at the city square! - Shut up, boy!

My uncle is insane with gambling and has left his poor nephew to die of starvation!

- This boy is crazy! - Oh poor me! I have such a bad uncle!

Please arrest my uncle for me!

- Oh Father, why did you leave me with him! - Be quiet!

Why? Did you get a good hand?

I'm so sorry, but I think I've won!

I think I have to go. I only have enough to pay for board.

Just wait a while. I'll give you enough for board and food!

After that gelding joined the group, we've had bad luck!

- Gelding? - You can't be a man, so you gamble!

Yes, you bastard! I can't be a real man!

You gelding! Gelding...!

- The government soldiers are here! - Government soldiers!

Go! Go on and hurry!

Halt!

Thank you!

We're all brothers, after all. Oh, here's your money back.

- Why are you looking at me? - What do you want from me?

What do you mean?

You were specifically losing for me. Why did you do that?

You figured it out?

What is it you want?

They tell me how I can get guns from you.

Please get me a gun.

- Guns! I don't know anything about it. - Please help me this once.

You heard what that bastard said to me! I'll kill him with my own hands!

If I have a gun, I'll shoot him with it!

Don't worry about me telling anyone. I'm going to kill myself afterwards, so no one will know.

Uncle!

- Uncle! Did I do a good job? - Yes, you did great!

- You two made a great team! - But is this really helping the Prince? How?

That's right! Did you just use me and Song Yeon to prevent yourself from losing everything?

Wretched boy! How can you accuse me of that?

Then tell us in detail what this is all about!

I told you that this is a top secret, highly secretive matter!

Don't try to find out any more. You'll get hurt.

Tell us what will happen to the Prince. If all goes well, will he be safe?

I... I don't know for sure.

I have to obtain guns to find out for sure...!

- Guns! For what? - I don't know!

Anyway, don't ask me any more questions. And remember to keep your mouths shut!

- Uncle! Uncle! - I don't know! I don't know!

I think we will know the truth by tomorrow, your Excellency.

You must hurry. The interrogations are getting more cruel.

If anyone confesses falsely, then all will be of no use.

I understand, your Excellency!

Your Highness! There is big trouble!

It is said that they have confessed!

It is said that they have accused you of treason and treachery!

In accordance with the Crown Prince Sado's orders,

the criminals obtained weapons from Pyong Yang, Eui Ju, and Hang Gyung.

They obtained 80 guns, 45 bows, 350 bullets and have confessed to having built the cache in the Palace.

They have all also confessed that the Prince was fully aware of all of these matters.

The Prince must pay for this treachery, your Majesty! You must have him arrested and brought to justice!

Please hear us, your Majesty! Please hear us!

Please hear us, your Majesty! Please hear us, your Majesty!

It is all over now, your Highness.

Please hear us, your Majesty!

Please hear us, your Majesty!

Please hear us, your Majesty!

There was nothing amiss with the Office of Engineering.

There was no evidence that there was misappropriation.

What of the missing guards?

Kim Joo Hun has died from an illness, and Lee Dong Hyun is still missing.

But I found this while searching his house.

- Isn't this a promissory note? - Yes.

Two thousand yang? That's an enormous sum of money.

I am investigating the source of that note.

You scared me!

What have you found?

They were supposed to get in contact with me today, but so far no news.

- Get up. - What?

That is the trade post operated by the Chung clan.

- Let's go in. - What?

We have no time to lose. Let us go and bring him in.

My Lord!

Are you Chung Han Chul?

You will not be harmed if you answer my questions.

- It's me. - You... you bastard!

You! Open your eyes!

- What's happened to him? - I think he's dead.

Open your eyes! Open them!

This...! Look at this.

This is a promissory note!

Uncle!

Is.. is this blood?

Uncle! What happened? Are you hurt?

You said you were going to be meeting the merchant today. Did it go well?

What? Then what about the Prince? What will happen to him!

Uncle! Uncle!

These promissory notes were in the possession of the missing guard Lee Dong Hyun

and the murdered merchant Chung Han Chul.

Lee Dong Hyun and Chung Han Chul had exchanged these promissory notes for the delivery of 80 guns.

We have yet to find out why they chose to keep the evidence of such a dangerous transaction.

In any case, it is a confirmed fact that the two of them transacted the guns.

Does that mean that the rumors were true?

Forgive me, your Majesty.

Please come with us to the Office of Interrogation, your Highness.

Your Highness!

Dae Su! Dae Su!

How could that happen? You told me that if we meet the smugglers everything will be fine!

Be quiet, you foolish boy! I told you the guns were a secret!

Uncle!

Guns?

I told you to never mention guns!

Sir! If we get guns, will that solve everything?

Please tell me, sir. If we get the guns, will everything be fine?

Can we save the Prince if we have them?

- What? - I know where to get guns.

I saw guns!

My Lord!

- This... this is...! - Yes, this is the gun.

- So Song Yeon really saw these guns? - Yes.

She saw them at the residence of the merchant Oh Jung Nam.

They must be smuggling guns.

If they are the new type of guns, aren't those the same ones as those found?

- What is the matter? - Your Excellency, where is His Majesty?

He has gone to the Interrogation of the Prince.

- When did he leave? - Why? Has something happened?

- He has just left. - Alright.

- It's this house. - Seize everyone!

Bring in the Prince!

If you confess now, you will not have to endure torture.

Do you have nothing to say?

- Begin the interrogation! - Yes, your Excellency!

His Majesty approaches!

Cease everything!

Yes?

We have yet to confirm everything, so you have to cease the interrogation for the moment.

Your Majesty, what do you mean by we have yet to confirm everything?

Bring the weapons that you found at the Prince's old residence!

This is the seal.

All the weapons made at the Royal Weaponry have this seal and the date it was made inscripted on them.

Minister of the Tribunal, lift up a gun!

What?

- I said lift up a gun! - Yes, yes.

What of it? Can you see the inscriptions?

Yes... yes.

If you can see the inscriptions, then they must have been made at the weaponry.

What was the date they were made?

- What? - Look at the inscription! What does it say?

When was it!

That... that...

These guns were made in the sixth month of this year.

The Crown Prince died in the fifth month, but these guns were made in the sixth month!

This means that unless this is the work of a ghost. There is a conspiracy against the Prince!

This is the record of the Royal Weaponry.

It is also recorded here that these guns were created in the sixth month!

This is proof that the Prince is innocent! Do you understand me?

Bring in the criminal!

This is the man who stole the guns from the weaponry and traded them illegally.

Who was it who traded with the criminal and tried to conspire against the Prince?

I will not let this incident go by unpunished.

It will be death for the criminal who tried to conspire against the King and the Prince.

- Captain of the Guard, hear my words! - Yes, your Majesty!

Seize the Minister of the Tribunal, Lee Jin Chul and arrest him!

- Yes, your Majesty! - Your Majesty!

He will be an example for those who conspire against the Prince!

Your Majesty! Please listen to me! Your Majesty!

- Your Majesty, the minister was just... - Take him away too!

- Seize him! - Your Majesty! Your Majesty!

- Your Majesty! - Take these two away and imprison them!

Yes, your Majesty!

I will remove all titles from them. They will never step foot in government again!

I will not forgive those who have dared to play politics with me and my family!

Even so, how could you have broken your vow of secrecy to these children!

But isn't that how we solved this problem?

Since we got it done, can't you just pretend it never happened?

You are a silly man.

In any case, you both have been of great help.

Especially you, Song Yeon. Without you, the Prince would have been in danger.

I am glad that we were of help to His Highness.

So what? The Prince doesn't even know that we helped him!

- So what if he doesn't know? - But he should know that his friends are behind him!

You wretched boy! Stop saying you're his friend! How can you be the friend of the Prince!

He said that I was his friend!

Be quiet! If they hear you, they'll imprison you for insulting the Prince!

We were too careless. This isn't a fox hunt. This is a tiger hunt!

I sought you out because I knew you didn't make mistakes.

Take care of things and set them right before things get bigger.

We must silence all mouths.

I will do so, your Excellency.

My Lord! My Lord!

Bad news! The merchant Oh Jung Nam has been murdered!

Wake up! Wake up!

- What has happened? - He's dead, my Lord! He's dead!

He was fine an hour ago.

How do you know Dae Su and Song Yeon?

And so, without Song Yeon, this matter would not have been resolved so easily.

Is that so? Song Yeon and Dae Su were working hard to try to help me.

I told them I would see them again. I promised that I would survive until then.

When are they now? Are they in the capital?

- Yes, your Highness. - Then can you take me there?

I am leaving the Palace to go to the Confucian Academy. I can meet them.

Run, Dae Su!

This is it, your Highness.

Oh no! What has happened here?

Dal Ho! Dal Ho! Are you inside, Dal Ho!

Oh no... What...?

- Song Yeon! - Song Yeon!

Please wait! Come back! Please wait a while!

- Your Highness... - They have to be safe...

My friends have to be safe...

Uncle, where are we going?

I don't know. We're on the boat, so we'll go where it docks.

Who were those men? Why were they trying to kill us?

Those men are trying to ...

- No... it's nothing. - Uncle!

We have far to go. Go to sleep.

Song Yeon!

Look over there, Dae Su! The capital looks so small!

Do you think the Prince knows that we've run away?

We promised him we'd return to the Palace.

But we're running away without saying farewell, aren't we?

Silly! We can say farewell now.

Your Highness, can you hear me? It's me, Dae Su.

Your Highness, Song Yeon and I are leaving the capital.

Are you listening? We're leaving.

But we'll return. We'll definitely return!

You do it now.

Go on.

Your Highness, it's Song Yeon. I'll return too.

I'll return and keep the promise that I made to you.

So don't forget us, alright? Don't forget Dae Su and Song Yeon!

Song Yeon, let's call His Highness in our loudest voice!

- He might be able to hear us then. - Really?

Of course! One, two, three...!

- Your Highness! - Your Highness!

- Your Highness! - Your Highness!

- Your Highness! - Your Highness!

- Your Highness! - Your Highness!

I must have dreamt about them again...

Who sent you?

Who are you?

Who could I be that I am in this chamber?

I am the target of your sword, Yi San.
