I'm originally from
Georgetown, Guyana,

but I now reside
in Clarksville, Tennessee.

not being able to say

my original last name,
which is Amerally.

So everybody started
calling me Ammo

'cause I was in the military,

Guyana, it's an English-speaking
country in the Caribbean.

It's a beautiful place.

I grew up amongst a bunch
of different cultures.

It's like "one people,
one nation, one destiny"

is literally the motto,
and they live by it.

My parents did everything
they could do

to make sure that me
and my sisters had a good life,

but it's hard to pursue music
as a career there.

So after moving here,
be in America finally,

I wanted to do music
and I wanted to be a hero.

I got the chance to do both,

because I did a whole
deployment tour to Afghanistan.

It was kind of
a nerve-racking situation,

from getting woken up
to rocket fire,

and you're getting shaken
off your bed

and get ready to,
like, get into battle.

My job was indirect fireman.

It gets scary sometimes because
you're dealing with live bombs

in your hands, so it teaches you
that mental stillness.

That's why most people say,
"Man, you're just always calm."

It's like that's
where it comes from.

I got out of the military
in 2022.

I started to prioritize music.

* They say what they want,
but they got nothing on me *

And now that I get to have
this kind of opportunity,

I don't know how to react.

I've played there once.

I'm Brook Wood.
I'm 33 years old.

I'm originally
from Indianapolis, Indiana,

but I'm currently living
in Queens, New York.

My dad was a lead guitarist
in a local country band

my whole life
in Indianapolis, Indiana.

They played local gigs
all the time.

Our thing was just
we'd talk about music.

We'd play.
We'd sing together.

My dad was the king of,
"My daughter can sing,

and you got to hear it."

After college,
I got connected with this show

called "50 Years
of Rock and Roll."

We go all over the States.

Tour life, baby.

We got to play The Palladium
in Carmel, Indiana.

My entire family came out.

Most importantly,
my dad was out there

and got to see me
doing my thing.

I remember just looking out,

seeing him grinning ear to ear,
just so happy.

And that's probably the only
time I ever saw him cry,

'cause he was just so proud.

* I fell in love
with the chemicals *

In 2021, I'm in New York.

I got a call from my mom.

She had called the ambulance
'cause my dad was unconscious.

She keeps me on speakerphone the
entire time the EMTs are there.

I can hear everything.

And I was able to tell him
I loved him.

* And all these little things *

My dad said "I love you" back.

And he passed on the way
to the -- to the hospital, yeah.

* And you said, "Hold me" *

We had a celebration of life
at a family member's home.

I brought my guitar,
and I made my entire family

sing "Take Me Home,
Country Roads."

I just know
he was laying there...

...and hearing everything
that she said.

And couldn't be more proud
of her.

For my blind audition, I am
singing "Save Me" by Jelly Roll.

It's about somebody
who has gone through

many hard things in their life.

My dad would be a huge fan
of Jelly Roll

because Jelly Roll is,
like, right up his alley.

And I know
that he'd be so proud.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

When I started
playing guitar at 8,

I had the desire
to start singing,

and I just always knew

that's exactly what
I wanted to be doing.

I'm a full-time
gigging musician.

I play five to eight gigs
a week.

I do regular gigs
playing in a restaurant,

playing in a bar,
playing in a lounge.

I've been producing
my own shows with a full band.

But there was a point in my life
where I gave up on everything.

Richie: The man has arrived
for his audition.

March 28, 2019,
is my clean date.

It's been over five years.

I think I've been
an addict my whole life.

And that was one of the
hardest things I've ever done.

At the treatment center
that I went to,

music played a role
in my recovery.

This is my boy Adam.

When I heard him play,
I was totally blown away.

Richie Supa is
a professional musician

who worked with Aerosmith,

and he's a founding member
of the treatment center itself.

I go back there every week
and play there

for the clients
that are in there now

and give hope to people

that are literally sitting
in the seat I sat in.

because music is a part of me

so is addiction.

And now so is recovery.

By going through all of that,

I found a bigger purpose for me
and my music,

and that's for other people.

When I was 17,
I joined my first band.

Most people leave high school,

and college is where you
figure out what your thing is.

how to get people

I started street performing,
and I would sing all day.

It really gave me a sense
of who I am

and the person
that I could become.

It's super exciting for me

and I'm 20 years old.

I was born and raised
in Los Angeles, California,

but I go to school
at the University of Virginia.

I'm studying history
and music there.

I was hoping that Simone
would go into medicine.

But that's okay.
She shattered those dreams.

Education has definitely been
the grounding force in my life,

and I think part of it
is because my parents

placed such importance on it.

We are so proud
of you.

Nerds.

Nerds, big-time.

My parents emigrated
from Croatia.

They are the smartest,
most driven people I know.

They inspire me
every single day.

They had to be very strong.
They left their families.

They didn't speak any English.

They came to a place
where a lot of people

didn't take them seriously
and treated them differently.

But they both came

because they were really
committed to their careers

and also to ensure that their
kids would have that education

that meant so much to them.

The life is hard,

and you have to work hard
for whatever you do in life.

Music in Croatia is where
my roots in music came from,

such a symbol of pride
in the culture.

My fondest memories growing up
are sitting at a big table

and singing
traditional folk melodies.

Everyone's, like,
on a different pitch,

so it kind of sounds
a little crazy,

but that doesn't really matter,

because the important part of it
is the joy that comes through.

I just feel the most myself
in music.

I think being on "The Voice"
is just this unreal experience

to, like, prove to myself that
I'm ready to take that step.

But there is that tangible
pressure that I feel,

potentially risking everything
that my parents have sacrificed

for me to have
these opportunities.

I was seven years old
when my family lost my house.

My father's business
did fall on hard times,

on top of the housing crisis.

We would stay with uncles,
aunts, and family friends.

as a family relocated

to live with my grandmother.

We had to start all over.

At times we were faced
with a homeless shelter,

didn't do that

because they wanted
to split us up.

I was diagnosed with
a form of macular dystrophy.

I had a very unique upbringing.

I lived in a camper
for over 10 years.

I used to be
an oil and gas worker,

so I traveled all over
doing that.

It was a bigger camper, and me
and my sister shared one room.

We were like, "This is your side
and this is my side.

Keep your side clean,
I keep my side clean, okay?"

We moved all across the country,
never once been to California.

So it's my first time being
to L.A., and it is super nice.

So, I'm a senior in high school
right now

and I do the music on the side.

But my day cap, the day job,

that is a maintenance man

for my mom and dad's
property management company.

Trevon's a better singer
than he is a maintenance man.
