I even was the best African
on the Tour du Gabon.

Then in 2004 I won the Tour du Faso.

We grew up together
and we have the same father.

We are equal.

I moved to Ouaga to participate in races.
And Mahamadi soon followed me.

Then I started to practice with Wahab.

When I came back to my village
I was the best by far.

The Tour du Faso is legendary. Why?

Because the Tour has existed for 25 years.

It is highly recognized by
the International Cycling Union.

Cycling has become really famous here,

because it is the only sport
that comes to the people.

Everything else takes place
in the big cities and stadiums.

There is not much going on
in the countryside.

But the Tour comes to the people.

We have competed against

Morocco, Algeria and Cameroon,

but we've never raced against the Germans.

However, we know that
we don't have the same preconditions.

They have better training opportunities
and better equipment.

At home we have a lot more diversity.

Or there is a forest,
you go uphill, downhill, maybe a river…

But here absolutely nothing ever happens.

I imagine that training here
must be very hard for a Burkinabé.

STAGE 2

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY 5 KM

This is Africa's longest
finishing straight for sure.
